Can I charge my iphone5 while streaming via Airplay?

I have an iPhone5. I am thinking of buyring an airplay enabled speaker for use on the deck I would like to have my iphone plugged in to charge (and perhaps to simaltaneously output to the connected indoor stereo. Is this posssible to do, or does plugging the phone into a dock shut off airplay streaming?

It works while plugged in

    Hi jaredfox06,
If I understand the issue correctly, you have recently purchased a used iPhone and you do not see your Apple TV in the control center in order to AirPlay.  To troubleshoot this issue please follow the steps outlined below.
    Try these steps first
Make sure that you have the latest software on your iOS device and Apple TV.
Make sure that both devices have Wi-Fi turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network.
If you're trying to use peer-to-peer AirPlay, make sure that both devices have Bluetooth turned on.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Bluetooth.
If you don't see AirPlay in Control Center
When an AirPlay-enabled device is available, you'll see AirPlay in Control Center on your iOS device.
If you don't, try these steps:
Restart your iOS device and Apple TV.
Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, go to Settings > General > Network. If your Apple TV is connected using Ethernet, make sure that it’s plugged in to the router you're using for Wi-Fi.
On your Apple TV, make sure that AirPlay is turned on. Go to Settings > AirPlay.

  • Apple TV2 streaming via Airplay. No picture, but sound

Internet ok, Youtube ok, but streaming from iPad 2 via Airplay to TV 2 is only sound, no picture

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
What are you trying to stream via AirPlay, websites and apps need enabling by the developer, not all are. Some simply haven't got around to it and others don't want to (often for licensing reasons I assume)

  • Can i charge usb units while my pc is off?

    Hello!
I'd really like to charge my mouse when my PC is off. It charges fine in sleep mode but it stops immediately after I shut it down. Is it possible to leave usb powered and if it is, how do I do it?
My motherboard is :Z87-G41 Pc mate.

You can try disable EuP2013 in BIOS and then see if you have +5V standby power to USB with PC powered off. Even if if doesn't charge device with Super Charger it would still have 500ma standby power to charge at the lower rate if it does get power by disabling EuP2013. Some MBs let you have power to USB when PC is off and some don't, doesn't hurt to try.

  • Still stream via AirPlay/iTunes if wired via ethernet?

I want to wire my AppleTV (third gen) to my Airport Extreme via Ethernet so that streaming from my MacBook Pro (which acts as media server) will stream faster. (The MacBook Pro is also wired to Airport Extreme via Ethernet.) Will I still be able to stream to my AppleTV via other MacBooks and/or iOS devices on my network that aren't hardwired to the Airport Extreme but access the same wifi network from my Airport Extreme?

Actually the title says AirPlay and wired, not Wifi, but that's ok.
I understand completely the four different connections you mention, believe me. I'm just trying to understand if I can still stream to my AppleTV if I connect to the Ethernet port. Other posts have suggested that the wifi on AppleTV is turned off if Ethernet is connected. And I'm not clear if streaming thru iTunes/Airplay only happens through a wifi connection. Or if it really just works through your local network regardless of how the devices connect to it (Wifi, Ethernet, Airplay, etc.)
Apple doesn't explain this clearly -- rightfully so, since they want it to just work and not focus on the backend of HOW it works. But I'm unclear in this particular situation.

  • Impossible? Stream (via Airplay) audio of film from iTunes on iMac over to airplay speaker?!

On the iPad i can happily stream the audio over to my B&W Zeppelin Air, when watching a video. But this appears impossible on a Mac! eh?!
It works fine for audio. You can even have multiple speakers. but not for audio when there's video?! Is this something to be added in Lion or iTunes 10?! I hope so! Seems ridiculous i can do it on an iPad but not an iMac. I just assumed it would. Bizaar.

you should be able to do what you want using Airfoil.

  • Apple TV stops streaming via AirPlay when iPhone 6 Display goes black

    Hi,
when my iPhone gets locked and the Display goes black (standby) after 2 Minutes, my AirPlay stream to my Apple TV 3. Gen stops playing. Only when i set the standby/lock time time to never instead of 2 Minutes (and the screen is on all the time) the Stream wont stop.
Sometimes the stream does not stop, wenn my iPhone Screen goes black.
This also happens with an iPad Mini or using an Lightning to HDMI Adapter instead the Apple TV.
    I have no idea why.
    Please help.
    Best regards
    Sebastian

On a sidenote, I also have an ipad and normally homesharing with the ipad works fine, but after having an apple tv incident, I have to restart the mac for homesharing to work with the ipad

  • Can't view untitled on apple tv via AirPlay

When I try to view video from an app (VLC) or any other app, it shows up as untitled and says it's playing but nothing shows up. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Not all Apps (or websites) are Video Airplay enabled, I might be wrong but I thought VLC was one of those that isn't. Im a little confused by what you are seeing though, where does it show up as untitled and what shows up as untitled.

  • Charge while streaming?

    Good afternoon everyone,
Newbie here. Never had any kind of Smartphone before so forgive me if this seems like a silly question.
I would like to stream radio through my phone ( I have the AT&T unlimited BB data plan). I know it uses a lot of battery to do this. My question is can I use the USB data cord that came with the phone, plugged into the USB port on my monitor, to charge while streaming radio? I wasn't sure if it would work simultaneously like that.
Like I said probably a really silly and simple question for you all but, I'm about as new to this as you can get.
PS. Got any good ideas for a stand? Doesn't need to be the charging dock (I'll get that for home). I just want something for at work, to prop the phone up while listening.
    Thanks for the help!

Yes, you can certainly charge the device while streaming audio.
    No problems.
For a stand the charging pod will work. I don't know of a pure "stand" with no other function.

  • Cannot Stream Video from iPad on AppleTV - Media Server Apps via Airplay

    Hi,
Need help on this one.  Am using iPad 4th gen - Apple TV 3rd Gen and iPhone 4S. (all latest firmware)
Last week was streaming video via Airplay using GoodPlayer and ArkMC apps on iPad to stream from my NAS (WD MyBookLive) via DNLA media server to Apple TV - Worked Amazing
    Upgraded firmware on appleTV.
I can no longer stream via Airplay from these apps - Airplay Icon appears - I can Select the Apple TV device for airplay (Checked - icon is blue). But no image on apple TV - video image stays on device.
Full reboot of both AppleTV and iPad.
Other software using server type setup (ex.:EMIT app) work perfectly and streaming directly from video on iPad works perfectly. (need to turn on the server on the computer though) or airplay enabled web sites and/or apps seem to work well also.
Mirroring works but the video is not full screen and wrong ratio.
Any clues ? I've lost this one.
    Thanks

Apparently what is happening, and this was brought up in another thread, and what I suspected was happening as well, is that the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch is not streaming the video itself directly to the AppleTV (it might be streaming it if it's audio only, haven't confirmed). What it's apparently doing is, is telling the AppleTV2 to download the video and play it on its own, starting with xx:xx timestamp directly from youtube or your iTunes library. This is why it's only working with your iTunes library or the built-in YouTube app. And also why it wouldn't work with the camera roll, because it isn't streaming directly from the iPhone. So it's not exactly what we were originally thinking or expecting.

  • What can be streamed w/ airplay?

Can keynote presentations be streamed to an Apple TV with AirPlay? And can you play music on a TV? How about movies (or at least the audio from it) on speakers? If you can play the music on an Apple TV, do you see the album artwork?

    Hi,
Click here if you still need information.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/
Then click: AirPlay on the left.
I love being able to stream music from the Pandora app wireless from my iPad via Airport Express or Extreme. The app itself doesn't support AirPlay but the workaround is to tap the iPod icon then tap the AirPlay icon then tap your Wi Fi connection. Go back and start Pandora.

  • HT201335 I couldn't get the streaming show on TV via Airplay mirroring, only audio.

I have tried using IPad (1st generation) and iPhone 5 to stream via Airplay mirroring and both had the same results. I was able to hear the audio on the TV but not the video.
I have the 2nd generation Apple TV.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

Verify that your Apple TV has the latest firmware.

  • I can't connect my iphone5 to my Macbook Air via Bluetooth?

Can someone please tell me why I can't connect my iphone5 to my Macbook Air via Bluetooth?
Is this just the most ridiculous oversight or is there some underlying reason why this doesn't connect and function properly? How amazing would it be if I could just click on a contact number and dial from my phone like I could in 2008 via my Lenovo and my Blackberry. This blows my mind that two devices that scream compatibility are far from it. From my bluetooth options it see my device, then sends a code, I confirm and then it briefly connects only to disconnect almost immediately. #fail #appleoversight #failfailfail
Fix it or I'm going back to PC ****

  • HT1414 I upgraded to iOS 5 and my iPad cannot be recognized by my pc, my apple laptop or any other system.  It doesn't even sync while connected to my wireless network.  also, the iPad can only charge if I turn it off and plug it to either the wall outlet

After I upgraded to iOS 5 my pc and laptops (including the apple one) do not recognize the laptop when I connect to the USB.  The wireless function does not function either.  I cannot sync the iPad 2 anymore because of this.  Also, the only way it charges is if I lug it to the wall or pc USB and turn it off.  I was able to charge the device while it was on.  Why is this happening?  How can I fix it? If there is no fix, how can I revert back to an older iOS.  I tried using the support apple instructions but the iPad is not recognized by the pc and I cannot sync the iPad iTunes to revert back to an older iOS.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

I can no longer charge my iPhone5 through either of my macbook pros. I get the error message that a USB device is using too much power. Can anyone help?

I reconnected the original powered hub that I thought probably caused the problem and this time it shut down the whole computer. When I rebooted everything now works perfectly. The system reset. I tried another powered hub and it didn't have the same effect so the old one is heading for the bin and with fingers crossed all systems are now working perfectly. Trying to reset PRAM or reset the SMC didn't work but causing the same power issue did. Thanks for your input though. It did get me to think what was the original cause.
