Can I charge Nano on any PC over USB, without iTunes sync?

Can I just plug the ipod into any PC with the usb cord, to get a charge? My work PC will not allow me to install itunes.
thanks

Yes, you can. Any computer with a USB port can be used to charge an iPod, with or without iTunes. Just be careful to use the Safely remove Hardware icon or one of the non iTunes methods to eject the iPod that you'll find in this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

When you synced with iTunes It would have tried to replace the music on the iPhone with what is on the computer. which is what happens when you sync with iTunes.
If the songs are purchased you can re-downloaded them Pretty easily. You mentioned that you still see the songs and that you could not play them. Do they have a Cloud symbol next to them? If so this means that you can download them but that they are not on the device.

  • Can I put Keynote (or any iWork) with or without OS X on a flash-drive...

Can I put Keynote (or any iWork) with or without OS X on a flash-drive and then plug and play that from a PC? I need to do a powerpoint style presentation and would like to use Keynote.
Is it possible to bring everything I need on a flash-drive and make it work through a normal PC that the classroom provides to run these presentations on a big screen?
    Thanks!

no. you can certainly not put just a few iwork apps on the flash drive. you can install the whole OS X on such a drive if it's big enough but it will absolutely not run on a PC. it will only run on a mac.

in my experience all such classrooms allow you to plug in your own laptop and give a presentation from it. that would be the only way to run keynote there - by bringing your own mac laptop and plugging it in.

  • How can i reset my disabled iphone to factory setting without itunes?

how can i reset my disabled iphone to factory setting without itunes?

When you made the backup, you may have told it to encrypt the backup so that you can recover iPhone to factory settings successfully.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Therefore I used the normal iTunes backup and restore found under the Summary tab in iTunes. If your data is still on the other phone, back it up again with iTunes. To use iTunes you have to start it, connect your phone to the computer with a cable, then select the iPhone button near the top right corner of the screen. Be sure not to check the encrypt button.

  • Can't charge Nano - is the firmware an issue?

I was trying to revert back to the original firmware after running into the bug introduced in the iPod Updater released in January, in which the stars/ratings screen won't go away.
So, I uninstalled the updater and installed the updater from the CD. Unforunately, I picked the wrong CD. I used the CD that came with my old 3rd generation iPod, not the one that came with the Nano.
So, I dropped the 3G firmware onto the Nano, and naturally, it didn't work. I saw the old warning graphics, and then it died, because I think it can't charge with the old firmware.
Any ideas on how I can get it charged so it'll start, and I can load the proper firmware? I'm thinking of digging out my old fireware cable and seeing if it can charge through that.

  • How can I charge Nano 4th Generation without a computer?

I don't have a laptop and when I travel I don't have access to a computer a lot of the time. How can I charge a Nano 4th Generation iPod using an electical outlet. Is there an accessory I need to buy or must I travel with my 3rd Generation iPod? HELP!!!!

    Hello stormonyc,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Yes, if no USB ports are availabe you will have to purchase an Apple branded or third party wall charger for it.
Here is a third party one.

And here is what Apple offers.

  • Can I add tunes and photos to my Nano and use them on it without iTunes?

I'm going traveling round SE Asia and Australia for the next year or more you see and it'd be nice if I could add tunes to it on the way or at least put my pics on it and be able to see them in the photo viewer on my iPod. I'm guessing that I've not got much chance of adding tunes without iTunes after looking at where the tunes were stored on my Nano through Explorer but I was hoping maybe pics were easier to sort? If not then I'll just put them on it as a normal flash drive but if there is a way to sort it so I can view them that way then any help would be appreciated, ta...

I don't think it's possible to add pics or tunes without iTunes. Sorry

  • Can I charge my 4S in a PC USB port in tower

    Iphone 4S      IOS  7.1.2  16GB
I charged my iphone into a USB port on PC tower and was told I ruined entire system and computer no longer functioning because I did not sync my Costa Rican phone# while in the U.S.

Can you charge your phone in a computer's USB port? Yes, if the USB port has sufficient voltage to charge the phone. Most do but not all. If it doesn't the phone simply won't charge. As for the rest of it someone is pulling your leg.

  • The problem is that i cant move on to any application because of itunes repeated info about my credit card..can i reset everything and start all over again without intervention from itunes ?

hello there..pls try to help me out regarding setting up my ipad mini...just new in apple product...its regarding the application (free) like fb, and games....that everytime i tried this i tunes keeps appearing and asking about my credit card details which i have no intention yet to purchase anything. how can i move on and install any applications without seeing this itunes credit card info...thanks a lot to apple users.....have a nice day..

    Short answer is:
To use iTunes/App Stores you MUST create an account and have credit card information.  You can easily change that and I believe you can also select to not use a credit card, but if there is problems you should contact iTunes support for accounts.  Support.apple.com and choose iTunes, then choose Contact Support.

  • Can I charge nano with FireWire

Just bought a nano (1GB)and already own a 4G iPod (20GB). From everything I read, it appears that I'm safe to charge my nano using the FireWire cord and power adapter that came with the 4G iPod. But I don't want to do so if it's going to zap my nano.
Could someone please verify that I'm safe to charge this way? Thanks.

You won't be able to sync via the firewire cable, but charging it is perfectly safe.

  • How can I tether my Blackberry over USB cable (to sync info)? [SOLVED]

Firstly, I have to thank all of you for making this such a great community and excellent guide to getting almost anything working on Linux - this is what makes Archlinux the best distro IMHO.  I have hardly ever needed to post anything here because the answers are almost always either in the wiki or the forums.
Lately though, I received a Blackberry 8310 and wanted to tether it to use its data plan here in Ecuador.  After following http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blu … GPRS_Howto using a small USB bluetooth adaptor, this has worked well and the connection stays up nicely, though very slow (to be expected).  Blueman is a great program!  Looking at improving my connection speeds (and reducing my latency), I am now trying to get the phone tethered via a USB cable to the phone, rather than over-the-air (Bluetooth).
The problem I am having is that I cannot establish which device exactly is the USB port connecting to?  Before this phone, this worked fine on my Nokia E51 setting the modem to be /dev/ACM0.  On Nokia, I would connect the phone, select PCSuite mode and 'sudo wvdial movistar' or my /etc/ppp/peers/movistar script would work fine.  Blackberry however is a whole different kind of animal.  I connect it with a standard USB cable, select 'no' to mass-storage-mode on the phone, and can see it in lsusb fine but the only device I seem to be able to use is /dev/tty2 but modem not initialising.
How can I be certain which device I am using?  Will post some lsusb and dmesg.log out put when I get home to give you more info.
thanks for any guidance you can give me,

Well, haven't got much further here unfortunately, though I have more logs and debug information now:
First, I connect the blackberry to the USB port and run 'lsusb':
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0fca:0004 Research In Motion, Ltd.

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
so I have my blackberry device listed by the looks of things..
I then run (for more info):
