Can i choose where to store my music?

Hi,
Im using a PC running Win 7 (dont hate me, lol) and i want to know where iTunes will pull my music from. I have Music in different locations on my PC and want to know where to put it in order to sync with my iPad and get the music on there. Or is it possible to tell iTunes a specific folder to pull my music from? im new to this and iTunes mentions playlists and genres, albums and tracks..were these folders created on my PC when iTunes was installed? Im a little comfumpled..

You can tell your computer's iTunes what to do with your music. On the Advanced tab in Edit > Preferences you can tell iTunes either to copy your music to the iTunes directory on your computer (tick the Copy Files To iTunes Media Folder When Adding To Library) or leave it where it currently is on your computer (untick that box). If you chose the 'copy files' option then on Windows 7 your music will be copied to \Users\username\My Music\ - which is also where any CDs that you copy via iTunes will go and any music, apps, ibooks, films etc that you buy/download from the iTunes store will go.
Then whenever you do File > Add Folder (or File) to Library the contents of that folder (or file) will either be copied to the iTunes folder or it will be left where it currently is - the choice is yours as to whether you want iTunes to keep your music organised in one place (which would make it easier to backup your content to, for example, an external drive).
Playlists and genres don't affect how the music is stored on your actual computer, they just allow you to categorise/display/play subsets of your iTunes content.

  • I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and I can not find where to put the music without any synchronization

I can not find where to put new music.
    Thank you in advance.

When you connect your ipod up to the computer. It should show the device, usually with the name of the device, in my case 'jordan's ipod'. This should be on the row which shows 'songs', 'albums' e.t.c on the far right. There when you click on it it should go to a different screen showing a picture of your ipod along with two buttons - Update and Restore. Click update and it should take a 2 mins while your ipod is updated to the latest version of Ios.
After updating te ipod see if there is a change in results.
PS: make sure the device is active while syncing so keep tapping the screen.
Sorry for any incorrect info, i have an ipod touch, but i've had experience with an ipod

  • Choosing where to store contacts!

    Hi,
Let me just start by saying I feel iOS gets better and better with every new release!
That being said, there is one thing that's really bugging me with iOS compared to Android.
Since I have a large amount of contacts that are purely work related, I would love to be able to filter these out when I'm looking for my personal contacts.
I am fully aware that I canselect different contact groups for viewing, but the problem is that when I add a new contact, it's always stored in the
    "default contacts account".
It should be possible to select which account you store a contact in WHEN you create the contact!
There are already a vast number of choices when you store a contact, like what's the adress, social media adress and so on, so I feel that the ability to choose which account you store a contact in should be present as well!
Also, when a contact is already saved, there is no possibility to change which account te contact is stored in! Same problem here, if there was an option in the "edit contact" menu for this, things would be so much easier!
I am certain I'm not the only annoyed by this?

    Hi Jak,
You can define your own reports_path variable.
If you know unix a little make a search for the REPORTS_PATH in your <oracle_home>/bin directory.
I think it is in reports.sh
put there the directory you want. eg /applications/reports:$REPORTS_PATH
or you can add a named environment in your reports server engine
this is the <reports>.conf file in your <oracle_home>/reports/conf/ directory
    eg
    <environment id="Dev">
    <envVariable name="REPORTS_PATH" value="/applications/reports"/>
    </environment>
    hope it helps

  • Can I use iCloud to store my music to free up space on my computer?

The idea is to upload/match all of my songs so I can take them off my hard drive. Music is taking up way too much space. Is it possible to do that?

iTunes match is a true streaming service when it comes to playback from your PC. That means, you can load everything into the cloud and stream from the cloud to your PC.
To an iPhone or iPad, it's stream-and-save, meaning it will download and play immediately, but it will be saved to the device.
So yes, you can load everything up (assuming it all loads properly without problems) and stream to your PC.

  • Can I choose where to save the files every time?

When I get files by email, it's very annoying they all get saved in the same place. I'd like the chance to decide, every time, where I want them to be downloaded to, so that I don't have to be moving them around or reorganizing them later.
Also, is there an option to just open the file instead of downloading it? Some times I just want to see the content of the file, not necessarily save it in my computer.
    Thanks!

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Site Preferences
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-browsing-search-and-download-history
Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you would like to keep.
You can inspect and manage the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab
It is also possible that the server uses multiple servers and that Firefox sees this as a new website.

  • Can't choose where to install stuff....

why is there no "general" category under "Snow Leopard"... I didn't know where to post this....
I'm trying to install Xcode, but have a problem:
Xcode installation creates a "Developer" dir.. I want this dir to be at same level as "Application" folder is.. but when installing only choice is HD, it does not let you navigate to where in HD you want Xcode to be installed... how can I tell it to install it where I want it please...
    it says here
    http://www.macworld.com/article/46286/2005/08/installxcode.html
that Xcode install creates "Developer" folder at same level where "Applications" folder is, but this is not the case, it created it at root of HD...
    thank you...

    G'day,
You have misunderstood the macworld article. It says that the "Developer" folder will be created at the same level as the /Applications and /Users folders (i.e. at the root of your hard disk).
There is logic in this. /Applications is for all applications that are not in development! There is a clear system to the folder hierarchy that enables you to place settings and apps at the appropriate level for the task at hand....

  • I have a file where I store my download music. When I click on "add music" to my ipod my music file opens, but rather than have to drag one song at a time to my ipod, how do I copy the entire file at once to my ipod. - steve

Hi - I have a file where I store my downloaded music. When I plug in my ipod and click on "add music" my file appears. Rather than drag one song at a time, how can I download the entire list at once? - steve

I am not doing it in ITunes, but i did down load the song from ITunes.  I loaded the song on to my Nano, but in my menu selections it doesn't show the song or the artist in any search format.  However, when i plug in my nano to my PC I see the Nano library on my PC drive listings and that song and artist are there.  I can click on the song and it will play in Windows media on my work PC.  I did notice that the format for most all the songs in my library on my Nano are MPEG - 4 audio Files.
    Thanks for your help, Mel

  • If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content?

If I change the nation setting of my iTunes in order to buy a song from the American iTunes store, then change my setting back to the Korean store (where you cannot buy music) will that create any problems with my downloaded content? I want to buy an album that I cannot get hold of in Korea, but it is available in the US iTunes store. However since most of my apps are downloaded from the Korean store I'll need to switch back in order to update them. Does anyone know if there are any issues in doing this. I'd rather find out before I spend money, change my store setting back to Korea, and then get told I can't listen to the music because I bought it from the US store and my iTunes is set to the Korean store.
    Cheers.

You canot easily change your country settings.  The iTunes Store in a country is intended only for use by that country's residents, and only while they are in the country. To use the iTunes Store in a country you need a credit card (or other card type if acceptable in a country) issued in that country, billed to an address in that country, and also be physically present in that country when using the store.  You are also restricted to waiting 90 days between country changes.
E.g., "The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance." - http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE

  • HT201272 why can't I re-download already purchased music from the itunes store?

why can't I re-download already purchased music from the itunes store?

What country are you in ? Re-downloading music isn't currently possible in all countries (the record companies need to agree to it for each country). If you are in a country where music can be re-downloaded, then if the tracks are still in the store then they should show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.

  • Where to store music?

I apologize in advance because I'm a newbie (don't even have my MBP yet), but I'm switching from PC to Mac. I plan to use Windows at work, and Mac at home. Is there a way I can store my music on the computer so that I can play it from Windows or Mac OS?
    MBP 15" - Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have not tried it but i would imagine in theory it would be ok BUT only if you partition the PC drive as FAT32 and not NTFS as that type of partition can be read by the mac it should read the itunes music folder if it is there. Leave the library folder where it should be (in the music folder) and relocate the itunes music folder telling itunes where it is in the prefrences. The only problem is the FAT 32 partition can only be 32Gb as a maximum size.

  • HT2729 Can I choose to only sync some of my playlists to my iphone instead of the entire library?  Not enough space on my phone for all my music. If so, how?

My iphone cannot fit all the music in my library, whereas my ipod easily does.  Is there a way to pick and choose only SOME of the music without syncing the entire library?

Go to the Music Tab in iTunes and select what you want to sync.  You can select playlists, albums, artists, or individual songs.

  • I accidentally erased a music album that I purchased on iTunes. How can I get the iTunes store to recognize that it is no longer in my iTunes library and download it again?

I accidentally erased a music album that I purchased on iTunes. How can I get the iTunes store to recognize that it is no longer in my iTunes library and download it again?

Delete the broken links in iTunes then look at your purchased list to redownload.
If this happened because you were deleting files from the iTunes folder in Finder, don't.  You have to let iTunes do all the deleting and moving or you will end up with broken links.
