Can I clip videos without compression in Lightroom?

I have a bunch of high definition *.mov files from my DSLR. Each is a few minutes long and each has one or two short (about 15 second) clips that I would like to keep. My ideal workflow would be to create a virtual copy of the video for every clip I want and then export each of these without losing any video quality. I know I can export to *.mp4 at maximum quality, but I find there is still a loss of quality. In particular the color is dull in the exported clip. I would simply like to clip the video without changing the format, but the only other option in Lightroom seems to be to export the entire video, which is of course not what I want. Given that my camera can clip videos in this manner, I figure LR should be able to also.
If I can't do this in LR, can I do it with some other Adobe product?

I think that if you are satisfied with the final quality of your DVD image there is no reason to change the settings. You can adjust to higher bitrates in the settings, but most probably you'll get playback problems in your distributed DVDs.
If your image is good now, no reason to change it just to take more space !

  • How can i transfer videos without losing the sound to my iPhone 3G?

    Hi
I have bought my iPhone 3G yesterday. I have found out how to transfer music from iTunes however i can't transfer videos. I'm selecting the videos i want to transfer on the videos tab after i chose my iphone from the side menu and pressing apply. iTunes says that its syncing my iphone but it doesnt transfer the videos.
Lately i have found out a function on the advanced menu for movies as "create iphone or ipod version". When i used that it transfered that video to my iPhone however the sound was completely lost besides that action takes too much time(around 10 mins for a 3 min video and i have a pretty strong computer).
How can i transfer videos without losing the sound to my iPhone 3G?

One thing I'd recommend is that you make sure the video/audio you're trying to transfer falls within the guidelines listed in the 'Video' section here:
    http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
What's most likely happening is that the file is not converted as such so when you try to transfer it, it's wanting to convert it but is unable to for any number of reasons.
There's software out there that might make this easier for you but I can't recommend anything specifically.

  • How can I permanently clip video without changing filmstrip order?

I have just recently upgraded from LR1.4 to 4.2 (Windows 7 OS) and one of the features I am most excited about is being able to work with video in LR. I started clipping videos but I know LR is non-destructive. This is great for my photography but with videos I am trying to actually make the files smaller by saving only the footage that I want. So I exported to the original folder and figured I could then just delete the original unclipped file and be all set. Only problem is the exported file now appears at the end of my filmstrip since it is dated today. If I stack it it goes with the original file, but since I was planning on deleting the original file that wont help me. This is different from the way photos behave (though I'm not exporting generally there, I'm editing a copy in photoshop, and that keeps the capture time metadata and thus stays in its appropriate spot in the filmstrip). I tried copying metadata from the original file or even manually changing capture time but nothing seems to be effective. Please help!

I use a much, much older iMovie so I don't know exactly how the new one works, but until somebody else replies...  It may be re-encoding the whole .mp4 since some formats cannot be edited without doing that, and you would need to check something like format and quality settings to prevent it from saving to a much higher quality which won't actually make the quality any better than the original anyway.

  • Exporting 4:3 video without compression

Hi, I'm working with 16:9 HD footage, and I need to create a 4:3 PAL DVD for my client. I'm having problems exporting a video from my 4:3 sequence- the quicktime looks blocky and compressed, even when I use a high quality compression setting on my sequence settings. What am I doing wrong?
    My workflow :
    1. Rushes are 16:9 HD originally from a Canon 7D, converted to XDCAM EX 108025P
    2. Edit in 16:9 sequence and add titles (sequence settings XDCAM EX 108025P 35mbs)
    3. Export movie at sequence settings
    4. Setup new 4:3 sequence (settings- Frame Size 768x576; Aspect Ratio: CCIR 601 PAL Sq. (4:3); Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square; Quicktime Video Settings: XDCAM EX 108025P 35mbs; Quality: 100%) and import previously exported 16:9 movie
    5. Export Quicktime movie at sequence settings
The final 4:3 video looks compressed, compared to the original 16:9 rushes. What can I do?
Thanks for any help in advance, this is bugging me!
    Oliver

Export your file from Final Cut Pro using Current Settings & Self Contained
Also, export a short 10 sec segment of the clip using Current Settings & Self Contained
    Open up compressor
Drag in the 10 sec clip to the Batch window
Go to the presets area and find one that transcodes the file to the output format you want.
    Copy the preset
Click on the copy of the preset to open it in the Inspector window
    Go to the Geometry Tab
Set your image sizes under "dimensions"
Set your padding to "preserve source aspect ratio".
Save the preset and try it on your clip.
If it doesn't work, keep playing.
Once it works, drag in your long clip, apply the preset and away you go.

  • How can I record video without sound?

I would like to record videos without audio on my iphone? Is their a way to record videos without sound in the default camera app? If not than does any one know of any apps that can?

Do you happen to have your phone set for mute?  Apparently (with the Note 3) this would also mute recording of sound in videos.  Using normal recording mode?    Slow mo and other modes may not record sound either.

  • Can't play some games with 7.0.4 - can't play videos without it!

My son has been having troubles playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 on his powerbook for awhile now - it would crash on opening. We experimented last night, and discovered on the game site that they recommended not using Quicktime 7.0.4 for this issue. We downgraded to 7.0.1, and the problem is fixed. Now, however, he can't play the videos he has downloaded from the iTunes site without 7.0.4! Any suggestions or workarounds?

I'm currently playing RTC3 with QT 7.0.4. To prevent a crash when you start a new level wait a short while--about 30 seconds--before doing anything. I fought this same problem for a while, and was on the verge of returning the game after power cycling four times to recover from the crashes.
Since I've started waiting a bit, I haven't had a single lockup when entering a level. The key to the game is patience, it seems, though that's hard to manage sometimes.

  • How can I output video without recording?

I have FCE and it is working ok. I can record to a dv mini tape using Print to video and a firewire connection. But I want to send video to a monitor via my Sony D300 digital vcr. I cannot get the system to do this. For Easy Setup I am using DV NTSC 32khz. Would another easy set up work better?
Are my settings wrong? I also have a Sony VX1000 digital camcorder but I have not tried to use it instead of the digital vcr.
    Would appreciate comments.

When I go to: View>Video I get 3 choices: Real time, firewire, or show current.
I have the D300 digital vcr set ready to play, so I guess this is the Play Mode. The "VTR OK" appears when I want to capture so I guess this is OK.
When I try to output the timeline, I see the playback on the G4 but only the first frame of the video appears and it remains on the monitor. The rest of the playback does not appear. (This is an advance over what I had before,)
    I have FCE version 2.0.3

gradients, shades of greys, plain colors show the limits of video-encoding.
try a diff. Export with Quicktime optional setting, esp. raise the bit-rate ...-

  • How can you watch videos without flash player?

Is there any way to watch videos on ipad that say you need flash player.  I know Apple does not support Flash Player.  It's really annoying.

I use Puffin, most recently, it is actually much faster than Safari, as advertised. Videos play flawlessly, also supports games, etc. And it is Free, or atleast offers a free version.
Photon is extremely popular as well, but is not a free app, and I find that it is much slower than the Puffin app honestly.
However just search the App Store as others have said, and read the reviews, you will find a bunch of apps. Reviews are generally numerous and reliable.

  • How can i watch Videos without flashplayer?

Can somebody Tell me how to install a flashplayer compatible aps or the Ipad compatible flashplayer version?

Flash is not supported on the iPad - and as Adobe have never managed to make a version of their flash player that works on iOS devices, and they have recently announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
Browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. Also some websites, especially news sites, have their own apps in the App Store.
If you do a search on this forum you will find hundreds of other threads on the subject.

  • Forgive a newbie-how can watch streaming video without it 'dimming' ?

I am constantly having to move the mouse as it goes dim every 4-5 minutes. Thanks in advance!

The 17" Powerbook can't boot off Mac OS 9. Yet your profile says you are running 9.1. Are you having this trouble in Classic mode under Mac OS X, or are you booting into Mac OS 9 on another machine where you are streaming, or are you streaming in Mac OS X on your Powerbook? Knowing which of these three you are doing will help us know which command to give you to change the automatic Energy Saver settings.

  • We can't watch videos without adobe flash

Hey Chris, I am going to ask you the same thing I just asked you on another person's thread that you posted on.
This is the one that you posted on also: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/590647?tstart=0
What are you doing posting on here?
Why don't you take care of your own problems that I told you that you had on one of the two threads that you started
in the last couple of days? You did not bother to reply to my response to you on this thread:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/589497?tstart=0  This is one of YOUR  2 threads.
You sent a screenshot of your problem and I told you that you had THREE different versions of Flash Player installed
and that was a problem.  I asked you what other browsers did you have on your computer in addition to IE8 since you
used Win7. You did not reply to me, but you have the audacity to post on the first thread at the top of this post and dare
ask me to answer to YOU about what I was posting to the other person that took the time to start his own thread.

P.S. Here is your OTHER thread that I and Bob also replied to that received no response from you either.

    I would imagine something like (untested)var duration: Duration;
    var tmp = bind index on replace {
       duration = Duration.valueOf((15 + 2 * index)* 1000);
    KeyFrame
       time: bind duration
       values: cars[index].translateX => 800 tween Interpolator.LINEAR
}To get better help sooner, post a SSCCE.
Note that I don't do JavaFX and the suggestion is from reading the API.

You have to click on Directshow button (next to Use Directshow) and a window will open with a bunch of option.
Direct show is any file that will normally play in Windows Media Player. So make sure you have the codecs installed in your pc prior to using Super. For example, Super will encode AVI files (Divx, xVid) but these files don't normally play in WMP, so they are not Direcshow, but once you install the DivX codec then they will play on WMP and then you can use the directshow.
If the file is not Directshow then you cannot rotate it.
If you don't see it, send me a PM with your email address and I can send you some pictures on how to do it.
Thanks, found the option you are talking about, and installed the latest version of DivX, (I had version 2. Something). Unfortunately, although I haven't tried it, i'm pretty sure that mp4 files are not Directshow, unless DivX has changed alot.

  • Is there a way to make a long clip into a short clip without compressing it any further?

Is there a way to make a long clip into a short clip without compressing it any further?
I went through all my old formats (VHS, hi8, miniDV, etc) and captured them. They end up as .mov files. Some of the longer 2hr ones are about 28GB.
If I am making a new project and I want to edit in short clips from several of these longer files, is there a way to save a short clip from an existing file without compressing it any further?
In other words, lets say I have 10 2hr files, but I know I only want 1 minute from each. Is there a way to select the good 1 minute from each .mov file that I want to use and a version of this 1 minute from each in the folder I am working on the project in, without compressing them??? I like to keep all of the content I am working with on a project in its own folder in case the project needs to be moved from one hard drive to the next while I am working on it. I would hate to have to make a folder that is 280GB or more when I only need a minute from each larger file.
I hope I have asked this in a way that is understandable. Maybe there is a term for what I want to do, that I don't know yet that has its own help section too.   Thanks for any assistance

Thanks Jon - That's kind of where I started, but the part of that I need help with on is the second to last step.
"Export using a codec that matches the source material. "
The codec they were captured in is .mov at DV quality, but then after picking .mov, there are so many other options to choose from as far as compression goes from sound quality and settings, to how many passes, etc. I just want the new clip to be of the same quality as the original clip. It looks so complicated and its not clear to me what options to pick to match the original.
Is there a setting or preference that helps you to match the compression settings of the original clip? Or is there  a way to detect the settings of the original clip so I can repeat that in the shortened clip??
