How can you configure an Exchange Account in Mac OS X to use a SSL client certificate?

I'm trying to connect the Mail App of Mac OS X to my company's Exchange server. For security reasons you have provide a SSL client certificate to the server. You can convince Safari to use a client certificate by putting it into your keychain and configuring a suitable "identity preference" for the URL of the related site. But the Mail App seems not to use the keychain for this part of the SSL negotiations.
Since you can configure the client certificate usage for an Exchange Account for the iPhone with the Configuration Utility there should be a way for the desktop App, too. Has someone sorted this issue out already or does the Mail App actually lack of client certificate support?

I had a nice chat with the Apple end user support which revealed that this feature falls in the responsibility of the business support group. Since I have no appropriate support contract I could ask for help for about 480€ per issue -- nice try
After more research I found the Configuration Profile Reference, where you get information about Exchange accounts too. Starting with a working iOS-Profile I changed the Exchange account part according to this documentation for OS X. All you have to do is to replace PayloadType com.apple.eas.account by com.apple.ews.account.
After importing this profile I found the expected Exchange account within the Contacts.app. But the SSL client certificate was still not used and therefore my account not usable.
You could enable Mail, Calendar & Reminders and Notes within the System Preferences, but neither of these would work due to the missing client certificate support.
I came to the conclusion that the relevant applications in OS X have no proper SSL Client support build in. Since the underlying libraries and frameworks have everything in place that is really a shame.
Would be nice, if someone would enforce the developers to do their homework there.

Can't set up MSN account on mail

Can anyone help. I have been trying to set up my MSN mail account on my iMac but unfortunately it won't go online. It's saying the server doesn't recognise my password. I have already set up my hotmail account successfully but MSN WONT work. I contacted apple support but after an hour and a half they gave up saying my settings were fine I need to contact Microsoft. My account works everywhere else including my iphone and iPad. I even tried changing my password. Can anyone help. It's driving me nuts.

Typically, right after I posted this, I managed to do it!!
For the benefit of anyone else: rather than choosing Yahoo from the menu, I clicked 'Add Another Account' (thinking I could manually add the IMAP settings|) and it worked...didn't even need to input them myself...

How can I add an MSN email account to my phone. They show as listed when I click on the email icon but I can not send or receive from there.

How can I get my phone to get and send emails on my msn accounts? They appear on the list of emails when I click on the icon but they do not work. They useed towork fine. If I try to add an account it says Domain. Then acct name and password. I have tried lots of domain names but all it say is "Can not connect". Any ideas?

Hello riopeltravel, let's solve this mystery! What make & model phone do you have? Also, have you tried deleting the email account off of the phone and re-adding with the username and password? How long have the email accounts stopped working? Keep us posted!

If you are referring to adding a secondary account, to a single device, then you can do this at system preferences >mail, contacts & calendars.

I can't configure my e-mail accounts on ipad

My iPad is connected to my university's Wiffi. I have Internet because I can browse websites. However, I can't configure my e-mail accounts on the iPad. When I bought the ipad, I was able to configure my e-mail accounts. When I was at school using the Wiffi it worked. Until today, I couldn't download my recent e-mail. Thus, I eliminated my e-mail accounts in order to fix the problem, but now I can set the accounts because the network connection, the IMAP server is not working.

OK. Calm down. Your answers are still a little confusing.
There is a difference between setting up an email account and setting up an Apple ID.
Are you trying to set up an iTunes account - that requires an Apple ID - Is that what you want to set up?
Or are you trying to configure your email account for the iPad - like gmail, AOL, Hotmail etc?
Please give clear answers or details as to exactly what you are trying to do and what you have already done. There are lots of knowledgeable people here that can help you.

I can't configure BIS with our Exchange Accounts

Hi,
my Company have an Exchange 2007 SP1 server.
Some of my colleagues have configured your Exchange Account on their Blackberry through Blackberry Internet Service, using Outlook® Web Access URL configuration.
All was OK until last Monday.
Monday they have received a message that require their to change on BIS site their Exchange Account's password and they can't receive or send email from BB through Exchange Account.
I have tried to connect to www.mobileemail.vodafone.net to one of BIS my colleagues' BIS account on the www.mobileemail.vodafone.net site: the Exchange Account results invalid.
If I try to validate the Exchange Account's password this error is reported: "Your email address password is invalid. Please try again."
If I try to edit the Exchange Account this error is reported: "An error occurred during email account validation. Please check your information and try again".
If I try to set up a new existing email account using another of our Company's Exchange Account, this error is reported: "A connection could not be established to server address. Please check that the server name is correct and that the server is available".
Can You Help me to solve this problem?
Exchange Certificates could be the reason of this problem?
I have renewed the expired self-signed certificate created by Exchange 2007 during installation.
Owa doesn't use https but only http.

PROBLEM SOLVED
ISS configuration doesn't require SSL for the OWA folder, but SSL is required for the Default Web Site.
I have removed the request for SSL.

Can't configure POP3 account

I just got my new iPad and I can't seem to get my standard POP3 email account configured. I have it configured no problem on my iPhone. I need to be able to specify port 2525 to my POP3/SMTP server and there doesn't seem to be a place to specify it. I tried appending :2525 to my server name, and no dice. The configuration also wants to use SSL all the time. I've tried configuring this everywhichway and it comes back that it "can't connect using SSL".
Is anyone else trying having problems configuring email on iPad to a plain vanilla POP3/SMTP server?

Well, I hacked at a bit and figured it out. Apple has a bit of work to do on the interface for configuring basic POP3 accounts on the iPad.
After letting it fail to connect/configure, I blew through the interface until I got to the point where I could save the account information that I entered. Then I was able to diddle with each of the account settings - including the outbound port - via the Advanced tab (very much like the iPhone interface for email accounts) and all is well.
So the trick here is to let it fail to connect using SSL at each stage, which is time consuming, and then save the account information. From there, the interface will resemble that of the iPhone and will look familiar. Then you make some advanced settings and it will work just fine.

Can I add my MSN contacts to iChat using my .Mac account?

I was wondering if there is anyway to add my MSN contacts on to iChat using my Mac account. I know that it is possible using a Jabber account and using my MSN account on iChat, but since I am paying for a .Mac account I might as well maximize its capabilties.

You can not add MSN Buddies to the AIm Buddy List.
You can however create a Jabber ID and then with a Third Party App link to what is called a Transport that will connect you to the MSN Service for Text Only chats.

How can i configure autologin with network account?

right now when i go to user preferences for network account, login window and options are non manageable for network users.
im using network accounts on all public machines and now after reboot they all require manual logon, how can i configure autologin to use network account

Did you try authenticating with a local admin account to get into the login options from a network user account? Then you might be able to set auto login for that account. I've set network accounts as admin users on particular machines that way.
