Can't connect via Screen Share or Web Server, but can ping and ssh

Bit of an odd problem here.
My Mountain Lion Mac Pro (called "Trogdor" for convenience) is connected to my work university network. I can ping it from anywhere-- elsewhere on the network, from home behind a firewall. Can connect over ssh from everywhere. I can also connect to other computers (on the same network or at home behind a firewall) from Trogdor via ssh, Screen Sharing, etc.
But I can't Screen Share into Trogdor, and I can't connect to Trogdor's built-in web server, either system-wide (in /Library/WebServer) or for my username (~/Sites). (I can connect to the web server from Trogdor.)
Note that I can do both of these for other computers on the same network (same subnet, etc), so it's not a network issue. I can't do these from anywhere: same network or from home. I have this problem whether I use Trogdor's hostname or its IP address. (I can look up its hostname using the IP address with the "host" tool in Terminal, and vice versa.)
So it sounds like a port issue, right? Except I don't think I've ever messed with my port settings directly. How do I diagnose the problem? Should I scan my ports? Can I return port settings to default?

Can't connect using screen sharing app

This has been an ongoing issue for a long time. Some days I can connect from my macbook pro to mac pro, both running mountain lion using the screen sharing app - some days I can't, Rebooting doesn't seem to help. I can always connect by opening finder, selecting the machine and clicking share screen.
EVERYTHING is configured properly - which is why it works some times. I've had similar problems between other combinations of mac mini, imac as well. The error I get is:
"Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."
Is this so hard?

Using screen sharing at transcontinental distances is commonplace; there's no "other networks" setting here.
There's the IP network and firewall and ISP network configuration, and whether that (in aggregate) allows connections from elsewhere can connect to reach port 5900 (TCP) or whatever you're using.
And whether screen sharing is enabled on-LAN; via System Preferences on Client or via Server Admin on Mac OS X Server and punched through the applicable host-local and upstream firewalls, of course.
As for what IPsecuritas might be blocking or might be routing, you need ensure that passes port 5900 (TCP).

Can a broken display screen be firxed, cracked glass?

Can an ipod touch with a broken display screen be fixed? It has multiple small cracks in the glass from being accidentally dropped. It still works.

Yes, the screen can be replaced. Best bet is visit and Apple Retail store genius bar and talk to them about the work.

Help: ipod won't connect, display screen reads do not disconnect

my ipod doesn't show up in iTunes and I've already uninstalled and reinstalled four times. When I connect it, it keeps saying "do not disconnect" and and the battery even looks low now when it was recharged not too long ago. Sometimes I could see it in the Windows My Computer when I tried to reinstall several times, but right now I can't. I cannot sync the songs I want since it doesn't show up in iTunes...
It used to work fine on this computer but recently my sister plugged her iShuffle into my computer to get access to the songs I have. Now when I plug in my ipod mini, it doesn't show up and I can't sync more songs.
Twice after I reinstalled iTunes, it showed up and then acted as if it was copying the songs, but when it finished, nothing was there...
Another time it froze on me,but now it is unfrozen.
I currently have nothing on my ipod.. not even my old songs
I've already tried all the options in the help section relating to this topic, but nothing works...

If you don't have iTunes installed, it will just sit there saying do not disconnect. Is the little charging lightning bolt on the upper corner or does it eventually change to a plug symbol? If so, it is charging fine. Now all you have to do is manually eject it from the Windows environment.
In the future, if you configure the iPod to Enable Disk Mode, it will show up as a disk drive on the computer and you can eject it as such. Right now, you should still be able to find the device on the system and eject it.

Can't connect to express even though signal is there

I set up a new airport express and even though my wireless devices and PC can see the signal, when I click to connect it doesn't work. I just see the spinning circle. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for the solution to my problem. For the record, I am using a wireless router and there is no difficulty accessing the internet using an older Satellite model computer. I tried your suggestion of going into Windows Updates, turning off the automatic update feature (Selecting "never check..") and rebooting the system. After that, I was able to access my homepage (yahoo.com). However when I tried to do a Google search on "How to turn on Windows Defender" and was given pages to access, the screen shfited to "This page cant' be displayed" after I clicked on one of the Microsoft based websites. I was able to return to the yahoo page but whenever I tried doing the Google search or clicking on favorite websites, the screen immediately went to "This page can't be displayed." In addition, when I try accessing the internet and am unable to do so, I get the "This page can't be displayed" screen. Lastly, I didn't try your solution of "installing updates one-by-one until the network fails" as I'm not sure how to go about doing that. I don't have strong computer troubleshooting skills which is why I had to come onto this forum. IMac (2008) display screen darker

My iMac boots and the moment the background wallpaper appears the level of light looks fine. However after 2 seconds or so the screen dims and becomes about 25% darker. The brightness is set to maximum. I experimented with colour profiles and tried calibrating one myself.
The brightness is consistent in all parts of the screen.
I don't know how to deal with it. I can't colour correct any images or videos because on another machines they will look too bright. I can't connect external screen either. My warranty expired 2 months ago. I'm desperate.

If that does not help, as a test, try creating a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane.

Log out and log in to the new account. Does this problem with screen brightness recur in the new account?

Can't connect to mac on network

After resetting our airport network, including a new password, I can't connect to my wife's iMac. I can still connect using screen sharing, but when I try to connect via the Finder I get the error Connection Failed. I have tried to re-enter the IP address, but am still getting an error.

If you're trying to connect to File Sharing, make sure that it's active on the server and that the settings are correct. Also make sure the firewall is off. If you still have problems, reboot the server and try again.

Can a latest Mac Book Air get connected to a display screen?

Presentation at meetings require Mac Book Air get connected to a display screen.
A Mac Book Pro is possible to get connected to a display screen using a A1307 adopter.
Does any one know if the latest Mac Book Air connectable to a display screen using A1307 adopter or anyother means? I would be oblighed to know the possibility prior to buy one.

The Thunderbolt port doubles as a Mini-DisplayPort. Thunderbolt is not the same as Firewire. However, Apple does sell a Thunderbolt to Firewire adaptor so you can connect Firewire devices to the computer. Thunderbolt devices may be daisy-chained, but a display monitor must be the last device on that chain.
According to what I found the A1307 adaptor is Mini-DisplayPort to VGA. It will not connect to a Firewire port.

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.

My printer display screen is unreadable so i can't connect to my network. is there another way?

If you follow Method One: Install the software with the product CD, it does not have you do anything on the printer. This step is listed further down in the document and everything above it is more or less preparation for this step.
The step before this has you do a WPS option which does get performed on the printer, but this is not necessary and I highly recommend skipping this step.
It may be best if you uninsalled the printer software from the computer before performing the steps so that what you experience matches what is in the steps for your printer.
Assuming the software is uninstalled, the following steps summarizes what needs to be done.
1. Connect printer to a PC (make sure the PC is on your wireless network) with USB cable.
2. Install the software.
3. During the installation it will ask if you want the printer connected through USB or network. Select network and it will add the Deskjet to the same network as the PC.
4. Follow the prompts and it will have you disconnect the USB cable.
Once all the steps in Method One: Install the software with CD have been completed, your printer will be connected to the wireless network without doing anything on the printer control panel.

Loss 3D graphics and can't connect to external display with NVIDIA card

I note this morning that the graphics in 3D mode of iWork (version 4.1 with system 10.6.8) no longer appears in all software suite. The 2D graphics are displayed perfectly. I also notice I can't connect an external display when I am on NVIDIA card but work well with Intel card.
The 3D graphics are printed but not displayed on the screen (it also appear inthe thumbnail). It seems to be a worry to display.
