Can I connect an external monitor on an HP Touchsmart 520 PC, using an HDMI to USB converter?

I am attempting to connect a second monitor to my HP Touchsmart 520 all in one deskop PC, which does not have a VGA or HDMI port. The monitor has an HDMI cable, to which I have connected an HDMI to USB adaptor and connected to one of the USB3.0 ports. The monitor is not getting a signal. Does anyone know of a solution?

This article will walk you through the process.

The Satellite P100 comes with two external monitor port. A VGA and a DVI. Can you have have two external monitor working at the same time? Can you have two external monitor as well as your internal display working at the same time (for a total of 3 display at the same time?
Here is what I have confirm:
Internal display + DVI connector display
    OR
Internal display + VGA connector display
    Is it possible to have:
DVI connector display + VGA connector display?
    OR
DVI connector display + VGA connector display + Internal display?

As far as I know this is not possible and you can use either DVI or VGA port.
For signal output can be used only one port for external display.

  • Can't connect to external monitor (possibly after Yosemite update)

I have recently updated my macbook pro to Yosemite. My external monitor (samsung 1080p tv) would connect fine using a hdmi before, but now its unresponsive. I have been into adobe premiere pro CC and been onto preferences > playback > then ticked my monitor but still no luck. I can't remember using the monitor since updating to Yosemite until now so im guessing this is what is the problem as was fine on mavericks. Any ideas? Thanks

Basically I have the same issue. I also suspected a software update (though I am using Mavericks). However, it does play with an older version of Adobe Premiere (CS 6). So I suspect that one of the manny updates to CC broke the connection. It's an important part of my workflow, so let me know if you find out anything. I don't have a solution right now.

  • HT3131 how can i connect 2 external monitors(VGA) to my 2007 macbook pro

I would like to use 2 external monitors simultaneously with my clamshell closed. I have external keyboard and mouse but need to know how to and what to buy in order to achieve this.....havent found anything straight forward on apple site, like a vga dual monitor splitter, so am in need of some advice on how to do this please!

Thanks for the reply. Haven't gotten anything as yet. Just that I burned out my older PowerBook using it as a primary screen w/ a secondary 20" monitor. Would be nice if the MacBooks could be used as a CPU only, connect 2 different monitors, and use the LCD screen when portability is needed. But I suppose that is why Apple makes different types of computers. I know I can rig the video SCSI cable to bypass to LCD screen and use the other built-in monitor. But there goes the warentee and any kind of AppleCare... not that I have ever used it, (until a day after it has expired!)
But thanks for the feedback. Your reply is what I expected. Being that I am a mercenary graphic designer and need to be able to work whenever, and where-ever I need to, the MacPro is not my hardware of choice. As well, I don't have $4000 in my budget. But man do those machines rock! Just think of what NASA could have done with one of those in 1969 when we were going to the moon! But now that the U.S. has decided that manned space travel and even scientific space exploration is not worthy of having a budget, the MacPros are religated to creating new episodes of Jersey Shores!
    Thanks again for your feedback!

  • Powerbook G4 15" screen blank, can't connect to external monitor

    Hi,
I've had a 15" Powerbook G4 for about 2 years now, but about a year ago, I switched it on and the display was white. I could hear the startup chime, and everything seemed to be working fine underneath, but the screen was just white.
So, recently I took it to an Apple store and in the end, they told me that the LCD was broken and that they would have to replace it for the Powerbook to work properly. As this would cost over £400, which I can't afford, I just decided to try and use an external monitor with it, as they had done in the store to check it.
So, I bought a DVI-VGA adapter from eBay, received it this morning, and tried to connect the Powerbook to my CRT monitor using the adapter.
Basically, I plugged the VGA cable from the monitor into the adapter, and plugged that into the Powerbook.
However, the external monitor just stays blank, as if it isn't connected to the Powerbook.
Please, can you tell me if I'm doing anything wrong, and if not, suggest why it might not be working.
    Thanks,
    sharkofmirkwood

hi i did this as posted by yan pb15 i had everything back internal and external monitor it is a wonderful trick!!!
    thanks yan pb15
This "last" solution worked for my PB15 osx 10.4.11 (somebody can help you; it is at your own risk!)
    1. set in Quartz Debug: a) Quartz 2D extreme disabled; b) Automatic Beam Synchronization
    2. turn off PB and unplug everything
    3. remove battery
    4. remove all memory modules (your 1GB RAM)
    5. plug AC power
    6. turn on PB ( beeps; white LED blinks)
    7. turn off PB
    8. reset PMU (my PB model: shiftctrl+altpower)
    9. turn off PB
    10. unplug AC power
    11. install all memory modules
    12. install battery
    13. plug AC power
    14. turn on PB and pray
    Good luck.

  • Can I connect 2 External monitors simultaneously on Toshiba notebook?

    Hi,
I am interested to find out which of toshiba laptop's currently on offer do support 2 external monitors simultaneously (one as normal and second as extended dekstop in windows). I am looking for to replace my old configuration of laptop and docking station connected to two external monitors with resolution of 1280x1024.
I was looking on toshiba websita at
    Portg R700-15Q
    http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Portege-R700-15Q/1089286/toshibaShop/false/
together with Port Replicator PA3680U-1PRP then some other laptop that do have port replicator but no where on the website I was able to find if any concrete model does support the dual use of the two port (VGA and HDMI or VGA and DVI)
I was looking on the Port Replicator PA3680U-1PRP user guide at http://www.csd.toshiba.com
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=2756712& rpn=PA3680U&modelFilter=PA3680U-1PRP&selCategory=2756711&selFamily=116319
and in the troubelshouting part I did found this:
    Cannot display information to a
DVD-D and RGB Monitor at the
    same time
Check that the cables connecting the monitors are firmly attached on
both ends. Some computer models do not support output to DVI and RGB
monitors simultaneously. Check the documentation for your computer
    model.
But even if you find on http://www.csd.toshiba.com the pdf's of detailed spec's and user guides, there is no information about if they do support simultant output to monitors or not and what is the maximum resolution supported for this.
    Thanks for any help
    Ian

    Thanks for the reply,
Toshiba Dynadock did not have really good reviews and it is working via USB which would be quite slow for all the traffic needed to show the graphic information for two monitors at 1280x1024.

  • Can I connect a external hard drive to the TC thru the Ethernet instead of the USB port so it will transfer data faster

I Want to connect the external hard drive so that I can transfer files faster then the USB 2.0. There is a thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter that you can buy  I I just want to know if the hard drive can be accessed thru the Ethernet line instead of the USB.  I think it will work faster than the USB.  But not sure

It won't work.. the thunderbolt to ethernet adapter doesn't work without drivers and the external thunderbolt drive is not now or ever a network drive.
Yes you can plug an ethernet type drive into the TC.. or into anywhere on the network.. it is after all another network drive..
eg Another TC is a network drive.
Seagate or WD make reasonably priced network drives. But they will not have the HFS+ format which the TC does.
You can buy a NAS from any of a whole range of companies.. A NAS is an ethernet connected drive.
See the reviews here to pick a NAS.

  • Can i connect my apple tv 3rd gen to a thunderbolt display using a hdmi to thunderbolt cable?

Can i connect it using this cable that apple sell?
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H4637ZM/A

Somewhat the same as vazandrew, I don't know, haven't tested it, but since thunderbolt supports both HDMI and HDCP, I'd be inclined to think it would be OK. Of course you'd also need to make sure the resolution of the Apple Tv output was supported.

  • How can I connect an external monitor to the new 27 inch iMac?

I have an old PC monitor that I want to connect to my new 27 inch iMac, it's the latest edition, the one that doesn't have any mini display ports.
All I have are four USB 2.0 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. No mini display port of any kind. So is there an adapter for me? My old monitor can use either VGA or HDMI and I'm not really fussed which one I use. A link would be most helpful, surley that are more people with the same problem.

If the monitor supports vga and hdmi you probably what to use the digital hdmi over the analog vga.  You need a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter.  For this application mini-displayport will work when plugged into a thunderbolt connection (TB is sort of a superset of mini-displayport, the plugs and sockets are physically compatible).
Here's examples of each kind of adapter:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to VGA Adapter

  • With MacBooks Retina 13" can you connect two external monitors with resolution each 2560x1600?

I'm not talking about Thunderbolt displays, but other brands like ASUS, LG, SAMSUNG, etc.
    Has anyone tested?

You can connect two displays to the two Thunderbolt ports with appropriate Mini DisplayPort cables or adapters.
    <http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/>
"Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays"
If the display supports HDMI, you could connect one to the computer's HDMI port, but not at 60Hz.
"Support for 3840-by-2160 resolution at 30Hz"

  • Hp dv6 1355dx laptop - how do I connect 2 external monitors?

I have a HP dv6 1355dx laptop Entertainment PC.  How do I connect 2 external monitors (both have VGA cables) and neither one has HDMI connectors.  My laptop has only 1 VGA connector, so I can display my laptop video and 1 of the external monitors.
Any help would get greatly appreciated.  I am even willing to buy a docking station or port replicator.

    Hi,
Docking station or port replicator won't solve the problem because of your internal graphics card. You need something which is similar to the following products:
        http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/
or USB to 2 VGA monitors but very hard to find (normally you can only get 1 VGA and 1 other, not both VGA's).
    Regards.

  • Can I connect an external HD on the time capsule and use it as storage space ?

    Hello,
I am thinking about purchasing a time capsule for backing up my data, but I also need storage space for photos and videos, can I connect an external hard drive to the time capsule and use it as storage ? If so, is there any risk of the time machine use the external hd space for backup as well and eat up all the storage ?

can I connect an external hard drive to the time capsule and use it as storage ?
Yes....for storage, as in backup files.  But, not recommended for "working" image or media libraries.
If so, is there any risk of the time machine use the external hd space for backup as well and eat up all the storage ?
No, unless you intend to also use the same drive for Time Machine backups.

  • Possible to connect an external monitor to HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. It says my drivers are up to date...but I don't even know what I should be looking for. Do I need to install something or buy some sort of adapter?
I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but  I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
Sorry, I have no idea what I'm doing here - please help!

    Hi,
All Dell monitors come with CD's for drivers. Your laptop may not know the monitor w/o its driver, it won't install automatically. Please check:
Ringht click a blank space on desktop,
    Click Personalize
    Click Display
    Click Change display settings
Can you see BOTH laptop screen and external monitor in there as shown on the following image:
For testing, I put my Dell monitor is my main display. If I can't see 2 monitor, you need its driver first and then check the cable.
    Regards.

  • Connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once

I am trying to  connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

I would like to add a third monitor.
The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

    • Only if your video camera supports it.  Depending on how your camera works, you may need to add preview software to your Mac to use this feature.
    • Alternatively, your camera may also be able to record directly into your Mac while you are monitoring the Mac's display.
    • If you are using a consumer camcorder that supports HDMI monitoring, a small HDTV might be an simpler solution than your Mac.  For an example of how this is done, see http://youtu.be/GVpSkZD6qE4.
    • The retailer who sold you your video camera may have other suggestions.
    • If you need more professional results, an external preview monitor will offer more capability on compatible cameras.
