If so you need one of these:

Otherwise what connector is on the monitor?
The 20 inch model A1038 has the ADC while the A1081 has DVI

    The 30" display needs a DUAL-LINK adapter.

  • How to connect an Apple ADC display to a new Mac mini?

Has anyone found a way to connect the brand new mac mini, either HDMI or micro to an older Apple display that has an ADC connector on it? Where to buy - the Apple store does not have their DVI to ADC adapter. Thanks.

I found one here for $139:

  • Can I use my iMac's display for my new Mac mini?

I have an Intel-Based iMac. I just purchased a mini with no monitor. Can I use the display on my iMac as the monitor?

Thanks Dave. But I'm still left with a problem: I don't have a stand-alone monitor! Now here's another posting I found:
    +*Setting Up a Headless Mac Mini without a Monitor*+
+I only have laptops and no external monitors, so I needed a way to setup the Mini without a monitor. It was really easy, following these steps:+
    +-connect a keyboard to the Mini+
+-start the Mini in FireWire Disk Mode+
+-connect the MacBook Pro to the Mini with FireWire cable+
+-restart the MBP using the Mini as the boot disk+
+-setup the Mini with network access and remote management (Sharing)+
+-reboot the MBP with its own disk+
    +-disconnect the Mini and reboot+
+Voila! Now you should be able to use Screen Sharing over your network to remotely control your Mini-no keyboard or mouse required.+
Well, I do have a MacBook Pro. So can I set up my new mini like this?

I have an imac bought late 2013, can i use it as a display for the new mac pro running windows 8 through bootcamp?

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.
It cannot be used with a PC, bootcamp, gamaing console, cable box, DVR or PowerPC Mac.

  • Using An ASD LCD display with a new Mac Mini

I want to utilize a 17" Apple Studio Display with my new Mac Mini.
Does HDMI support the 35-pin Apple Display Connector (ADC)?
It would require an adapter with female 35-pin on one side and a male HDMI (DVI) on the other. The Apple DVI to ADC adapter doesn't work with the Mac Mini HDMI port.
If two adapters are needed they must have the correct gender connections.
    Thanks.

Your correct, you would need an Apple DVI to ADC adapter, And ether mini display port to DVI OR HDMI to DVI adapter. (just a question of witch port you want to use)
Apple DVI to ADC adapter when they were first released cost about 120; now they're kind of rare and harder to find. Online they can go for 200 dollars. so 120 to 200 dollars to make your display work; and displays don't last for ever they have parts that will break down. Older displays have a light bulb inside them; witch burn out just like all the other light bulbs in your house.
Also DVI to ADC adapters can some times give you blurry images and or text.
For 120 dollars you can buy a generic brand 19" LCD. That 19" LCD would have better contrast ratio, brightness, and refresh rate then the old 17" monitor. (and it would have a warranty) Or for 200 dollars you could buy 23" monitor.

  • Can I connect a 24" Cinema Display with mini DisplayPort in to HDMI out?

I have a 24" LED Cinema Display that I want to use with a new 15" Retina MacBook Pro I will soon be purchasing. Using cable adaptors, would it be possible use the new Macbook Pro's HDMI port to connect to this Cinema Display? I understand that this does not work with the newer Thunderbolt displays because Thunderbolt only adapts in one direction, but since this is an older Mini Displayport monitor would it work? My goal is to keep both Thunderbolt ports available for storage I/O untill Apple releases an update to the Thunderbolt display later this or next year. Thanks for your advice!

Yes, in this scenario, I'd connect the display to one of the Thunderbolt ports and use a USB hub for additional I/O. Here's my current I/O needs:
    1) esata (with port multiplication)
    2) gigabit ethernet
    3) firewire 800
    4) USB keyboard
    5) 3-port USB hub (iOS, bluetooth charger, misc USB2 or 3)
    6) monitor
My current plan is to use
    1) thunderbolt 1 - display
    2) thunderbolt 2 - firewire 800
    3) USB3 1 - esata
    4) USB3 2 - USB3 hub - gigbit ethernet and all other USB devices
Does this seem like a resaonable set-up in terms of maxing I/O bandwidth? My main concern is if the USB2 devices on the USB3 hub will throttledown my gigabit ethernet speeds.
    Thanks for your advice!
