Can I connect my thunderbolt display's power cable to supply power to the new retina display macbook pro?

I'm planning to buy a new retina display macbook pro, but I have a thunderbolt display and I use the display's power cable to supply the power to a macbook air. As the power connector on the new macbook pro is differet, It looks to me that I won't be able to connect it to the new computer. I'm I correct?

You'll just need this adapter, which you can buy or order with the computer:

if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.
    Good luck.

  • I am unable to use the new retinal display with the 600 series smart board

I am a teacher and have both an older macbookpro (2006 2gigs ram 10.7) and the new retinal display macbookpro (10.8.2).  My school had two versions of smartboards (one is the 685 with a UX60 projector; the other is a newer 800 series).  My older macbookpro works with both boards but my new macbookpro works only with the newer 800 series.  It does not show any display at all with the older boards.  I have tried reducing the resolution but that does not help.  I have taken it to apple and it checks out fine.  I have spent hours with smartboard support in Calgary.  They can't figure it out but have never used a Mac with a retinal display and the older board or the UX60.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ed S

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • HT204032 Does the non-Retina screen MacBook Pro have the ability to initiate Power Nap?

I've seen that the Retina screen MacBook Pros can use Power Nap from Apple's WWDC keynote but can the non-Retina screen MacBook Pros do that too? It has the same processor and close to the same RAM. Or is it because the Retina screen MacBook Pros have flash storage that they can do Power Nap? Thanks

  • TS1501 transferring a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro (this way you can upload one album at a time, file them into a new album on macbook pro)  Pls. advise.

How can I transfer a small batch of photos from the new ipad to macbook pro?  In theory, I should be able to keep my albums together this way (once uploaded to macbook pro, i can easily file them into a new album on macbook pro.)  Not working for me!  Macbook pro does include iphoto.  I had no problem uploading ALL photos (3 or 4,000.)  Help!  Goal is to keep albums together.

    Hi all,
    Goal:  Backing up photos!
Hope:  Transfer ALBUMS from ipad to external drive (via macbook pro)
Is this possible?  Or will I have to create a file name for each of my thousands of photos?
    UGH!
    HELP!

    Hello, Nanjos0103.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of your wireless router can resolve this issue.  However, troubleshooting may be needed.  Here is the best troubleshooting article to go through when experiencing this issue.

  • Has anyone tried the new retina display MBP with a projector?

I bought a new MacbookPro with retina display online the other day (hasn't arrived yet).  I use this primarily for business doing presentations etc.  Has anyone tried connecting a projector using the Thunderbolt VGA adapter?  Just curious if it'll work.
    Thanks

Similar problem. I used my macbook Pro Retina with my Thunderbolt to VGA adapter all through the fall, and never had any trouble with it. Just before Christmas I got a Thunderbolt display.
Since that time, whenever I connect the projector, I get a black screen. I can see and move the mouse, but nothing else. Other computers still work with the projector.
I'm not certain if the Thunderbolt Display has anything to do with this or not, but it's just the timing that it happened.
Grateful for anyone that can offer help!

  • How does adobe apps looks with the new retina display macbook?

I'ver heard that it gets so blurry that you cant even read the text. I use adobe creative suite 6 production premium. does the video inside apps like adobe after effect play in "retina" quality? is there anything I can do to make it not blurry if it will look blurry?

I frequent the CS6 forums - particularly Photoshop - and most users are quite happy using CS6 products on MBP-R using the 'best for Retina resolution option. I have yet to hear someone say that they apps are unusable, etc. People are just waiting for Adobe to announce Photoshop for Retina display, as shown at the June Apple WWDC.
There's really nothing out there to replace the CS6 apps with - I think that you'll be fine with them. If you're anxious about it, just don't buy the Retina - buy a 2012 MBP with the HD anti-glare screen.
I assume that it will be several years before applications are updated for Retina - if at all.
Check out some of the CS6 Adobe forums to read what MBP-R owners have to say - I've not read that many complaints.

  • Difference between the 2012 Macbook Pro and the new Retina display Macbook Pro?

    Title says all!

Well really all the specs are posted in black and white on the Apple store website. They even have a Compare feature on the site.
I find it really odd that posts like your show up here every day. "Which Mac should I buy". I always want to reply "The one that fits your needs and you can afford".
Just how does anyone on this forum know what YOU need from a computer and what computer is best for YOU. You would be the only one that knows that after you read all the specs of the models you are thinking about buying and also go to one of the many Apple stores or resellers and physically look at and use them.

  • Just bought the new retina display WIFI one

just saw the AT&T commercial to add another device for $10 a month.  Can I do that with the iPad I just bought? Or did it need the 3g already?

You needed to buy a 4g one.

  • Will the mini iPad Logitech keyboard fit the new retinal display mini iPad?

Will the new mini iPad fit the original mini iPad keyboard cover by Logitech.

There's a fraction of a millimeter between them. So if the case is hard molded plastic, probably not. But if it's a more forgiving case, like  a leather slip in case or the such, you should be ok.

  • Why does the web look TERRIBLE on my new Retina display?

The new retina display is fantastic, but browsing the web looks horrible.  Can anything be done to improve the web browsing experience?

Most websites are designed to look good on low end computers, typically with a resolution of around 1024x768.
Our retina macbooks have such a high resolution display that they basically show the flaws you would not normally see on a low resolution display.Text that is rendered using the mac os system fonts should look beautiful, but low resolution pictures and non-native text will look terrible on any website or application.
There is no real fix for this issue, other than hoping the web in general starts moving to higher resoltuion content in the future. The same problem exists with the retina iPad, and in my opinion, things look even worse on the ipad since you tend to be zoomed in further while browsing the web.

  • Can you connect via thunderbolt a mac book air 13" (2013) and a imac 21" (2013) together, using the iMac 21" as a 2nd screen

Can you connect via thunderbolt a mac book air 13" (2013) and a imac 21" (2013) together, using the iMac 21" as a 2nd screen

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course. As both have Thunderbolt, it's as simple as buying a Thunderbolt cable, connect them and press Command and F2 keys on the iMac, so the iMac will be used as an external display for the MacBook Air. If you want more information, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302

Investigate the Air Display App to see if it will do the job for you.
