Can I consider an iLife '08 upgrade?

My computer is a 1.8Ghz iMac G5. The iLife '08 System Requirements (http://www.apple.com/ilife/systemrequirements.html) state that for iMovie to work, I need at least a 1.9Ghz machine. Should I just not consider purchasing the upgrade at all?
I think it's a bit lousy that I can't upgrade when I bought the computer as soon as it was released, and it's not even 3 years old and I can't even update my software. Sad.

Severest reqirements are for use of iMovie '08. If you plan to use current iMovie '06 (or download the iLife '08 version of iMovie '06, then you can still use the package without problems according to a number of such current users.
Should I just not consider purchasing the upgrade at all?
Would likely depend on what you expect to get out of the package. If your interests center on the iMovie '08 application only, then it may not be worth the effort. (iMovie '08 is not really an upgrade so much as a radically new way to edit files in their "native" compression format and most iMovie users are simply not prepared to manually convert their non-editable files to "edit compatible" formats for use with iMovie '08.) If you use all of the iLife applications on a regular basis, then maybe it will be worth it to you. (Don't believe there have been all that many "obvious" changes in most applications other than to maintain integration compatibility.)

  • I can't update my apps after upgrade to iOS 6...?

I can't update my apps after upgrade to iOS 6

Are you sure you have a proper Internet connection? Make sure your iPod is connected to your computer, and you have an Internet connection.
Don't even get me started on the iPod Touch 5G, I actually own an iPod Touch 4G, and I've considered a lot about if I should get the new one. At first look, you might be sold by the features Apple has on their iPod Touch page. It has a taller screen that's a 4-inch Retina Display, has a much better camera with a flash, and comes with iOS 6 preinstalled with Siri. But the real breakthrough comes with the new connector. It's called Lighting, and it's much smaller. But if you have a dock connector that comes with some cars, and maybe a set of speakers or docking stations as alarm clocks, I encourage you not to get the new one. The usage of your old connectors requires a $30 adapter, which is a ridiculous price. And who knows how secure the adapters will be with your docking stations? I personally think Apple has crossed the line. If they are to put a new connector with their new products, they should ship with an adapter in the box, at least at first. This is why I strongly encourage you NOT to get the new 5th generation iPod Touch.
Sorry if I went a little off-topic there, but I wanted to get my point across. For your updating to iOS 6, I reccommend you check out other discussions in the support comunity, and see what other contributors have to say. Or go on Google and search your error messages, possibly someone might've already went through the same problem as you did. I really hope this helped!

  • I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad.  I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work?  Any suggestions?

I'm trying to update iPhoto 7.1.5 on my old iMac (running  10.9.5) to current versions so I can get my photos onto iCloud to access from my iPad.  I can't seem to find an upgrade route that will work?  Any suggestions?

For Mavericks you need to upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1.
You cannot buy this version from the AppStore, since the current version is iPhoto 9.6, and that requires Yosemite. The easiest route for you would be to upgrade to Yosemite. Then you can simply buy the newest version of iPhoto from the App Store and can use iCloud Photo Library (iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ), once it has been release for the Mac as well early next year.
If you want to stick with Mavericks, you'll have limited iCloud features, only the Photo Streams  (iCloud: iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ), but no iCloud Drive (iCloud Drive FAQ) and iCloud Photo Library.  And to upgrade iPhoto you need to buy an iPhoto '11 installer. It comes as part of iLife '11. You can try to buy a boxed version from Amazon or try to find it at eBay.  Once installed on Mavericks, download the iPhoto '11 updaters from the apple Support Downloads page.

Or ring BT on 150 from a BT Landline  (Contact us 0800 800 150 for non BT landlines).
I ordered by telephone and changed from BT Total Broadband to BT Infinity option 1 with the 2MB upload cap and 40GB Usage...
I added an uplift for Anytime UK landilne calls as I had that with my old BT broadband but the new Infinity only offered weekend.

  • Ilife 06 upgrade

I have a newish Powerbook with Ilife 05 and I have an existing .mac account
Can you direct me to the upgrade site, I'm assuming i won't be expected to buy a full new version.
    Thanks
    Olly

I have the same delimia - I called the Apple Customer Service Center and finally ctalked with a manager. I was told that if you purchased a Mac (G5, Powerbook, any machine realy) in the last 30 day and iLife '05 was a part of the inital software package then Apple would send a copy of iLife'06 out to those cstomers. Regretfully, this only applies to web based orders. If you purchased your machine over 30 days ago, if you purchased your machine or software at a retial location like CompUSA, then you are forced to purchase the iLife'06 bundle.
On a positive note, iWed seems buggy and there will probably be an update to correct the constant crashes and such in the next few weeks. It may be wise to wait if you are lik eme and find myself using programs based on my initial impression and user-ability. I am looking forward to the fixes that will make iWeb a great, easy to use program.
If you hear differently let us know!

  • ILife 6 upgrade

Hi. I just bought the ILife 6 upgrade. Unfortunately as I am reading through the system information I realize that I am running a G5 Imac at 667Mhz and the IDVD application requires 773Mgz. I assume that in this case I can NOT upgrade the IDVD application. Am I correct or will it still work, but slower? Any thoughts on the upgrade in general? Should I just not bother? Did I waste the $59? THanks.

    Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   IDVD6 updgrade

    Yikes-I misread the post-my apologies.
I think if I had already purchased the software, I would do what Dan Slagle suggests Click here and clone my drive so that I could have both applications...just in case.
If there waasn't enough space to do that, I would install '06 and try it. If that didn't work out, I would re-install the older version.

  • I want iDVD so I'm considering putting iLife 08 on my iMac

I want iDVD so I'm considering putting iLife 08 (buying brand new disks) and putting it on my iMac (2011 version, I just got it this summer). If I do this, will everything still function as it should... and will iDVD work on my iMac?

You can have both iMovie 6 and iMovie 9 (11) installed.
Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.
Alternatively you could try this method, suggested by poster Uitech:
Open a terminal and type "touch /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iLife011.plist"
    (No quotes)
Install iMovieHD6 from the iLife 6 install disk.
This works with both Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.

use iTunes to update to iOS 6. Future updates can be done over the air

    4) When my computer crashes, once it starts again, it says "repairing" ... but I am not familiar with reparing permissions -- can you explain how I might do that?
If you are running OS X Lion, then you can restart your computer and then press and hold the 'Option' key immediately after you hear the start up 'gong' (usually heard when grey screen shows as it restarts).
You should see at least two Disks to choose from. Choose 'Recovery Disk' and wait for it to load, then choose 'Disk Utility' option in the Utilities dialog.
Once Disk Utility loads, do the following:
1 - In the left hand pane, choose your system partition (usually called either 'Macintosh HD' or 'Macintosh SSD'). Note - don't choose the actual hard drive listed above the partition when using Disk Utility in OS X Lion as this doesn't offer options for repairing due to it including the Recovery Disk you have loaded in memory.
2 - Click the 'First Aid' tab
3 - Click the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button in lower portion of main pane and allow to complete. Ideally, you will get a final message in main pane saying Disk Permissions are repaired.
4 - At lower right of same pane, click the 'Repair Disk' button and allow to complete. Ideally, you will get a final message indicating that Disk Repair is completed and all appears to be good.
5 - Quit Disk Utility > Close Utilities dialog window > Click 'Restart' button (confirm as needed).
You should boot straight into the system partition when complete.
Note - any red text in the main pane text while running the repairs will be issues and you will need to follow the advice given or post back.
If you are running Snow Leopard; then (as David mentions) boot from your first OS X reinstall disc and run the Disk Utility the same way; except you select the actual hard drive listed at top of left pane (not the partition below it). This is because Snow Leopard does not use a 'Recovery Disk' partition and repairs can be run on the HD or SSD itself.
    Hope that helps.

Don't be afraid to bump this topic. There's also an App Store forum where you might repost this question, but give some of these details in your post.  I'd rephrase the topic to something like "Can't use App Store to upgrade." (Instead of can't "open".) Then give the details.

Also, I have the 08 version of iWork. Will this cause problems for the update?  Can I update this AFTER I update the processor?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There's no reason to think that Mountain Lion will slow down your Mac. Just make a backup of your data before upgrading with Time Machine > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
Also, check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com Upgrade them to a compatible version or delete them before upgrading.
The external drive won't make the OS X Mountain Lion installer fail, but it's better to unplug it during the upgrade.
iWork '08 is compatible with Mountain Lion. iWork '09 includes OS X Mountain Lion features and can be purchased at the Mac App Store.
To upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend at least 4 GB of RAM. You can check how much memory you have in Apple menu > About this Mac
