Can I control size of final photos in iPhoto?

I am a long-time digital photographer, and since I converted from Windows to Apple OS X Lion using iPhoto, I feel as if I have lost control of my photo post-processing.  Although I can crop a photo, and, to a limited degree, improve a photo, all other control seems to be beyond my control.  In Photoshop Elements with Windows, after I post processed a photo, and cropped it to my liking, I could choose a final size which I wanted, in pixels or inches, for that photo to be stored or e-mailed or shared.  In iPhoto I can detect no way to control the size of my final product,  What you crop is what you get, and there isn't even any way of knowing the size of your final photo.  Am I going to have to go back to Windows to get  efficient photo processing  with Elements or Photoshop?

What do you mean by "size"? You can constrain the image in pixels to any size you choose when you crop.
The final size in inches only gets set when you choose to Print. There are no inches in your computer.
But it is true to say that you won't have the same degree of control on some features that yoi have on Elements. iPhoto is a $15 app. Elements is on the App Store for €63, iPhoto is there for €12. There's a reason for the price difference.
Of course there is an Elements for Mac, and you can use it with iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • Can I adjust size of the photos on front page of the photo album template?

When I am working on a Photo Album page, how can I make the "front page" photos larger? I am talking about the photos arranged in rows, not the photos that show in the slide show carousel. Is it a set size in the Photo Album template or is it a consequence of how large a photo I set into the page?
Also, how is "large" defined? Is it about inches, or is it about resolution?

I found the large too large and the small too large.
How large do you want them Lorna?
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
Michael, where did you go to check to see that the large was indeed too large and the small too large? What method of adjusting the size are you using?
If you want them really large, why don't you just
plonk the real photo on the page sized as large as
you wish, and you can always link it to its own page
    with an even larger version!!
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
Michael, actually I misstated in my first post. Actually I would not like the photos in the Photo page to be too large, because then no one will be motivated to click onto the See Slideshow button.
My mind is getting so crammed with input and other people's websites that I now cannot even recall with certainty which pictures I wanted larger. 8-( Oh, this is giving me a cramped-in-the-chest feeling. I had best take a break now and finally eat a legitimate meal.

  • How can you increase size of iweb photo album?

In iWeb albums there seems to be a maximum of 500 photos or 5 pages.  Can you add more than 500 photos to the same album?  How?

are you using an application server or the local OC4J container?
In both cases the height and width of your applet can be set in the formsweb.cfg file.
you can find this file under <oracle_home>/forms/server directory
search in the file for with and height
you can put a fixed size in pixels or in percentage of your screen resolution
    hope it helps

  • I can't find most of my photos in iPhoto

    MacPro 3.1, OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto 7.1.5
I had connected my iPod Touch to my MacPro to upload photos to iPhoto.  It transferred some photos, but then with 8 left to do it didn't progress any further, and finally gave me a bunch of error messages. I tried closing and reopening iPhoto, and got a message that the computer couldn't open iPhoto because it couldn't find my iPhoto library.  I did a search and found that I had an iPhoto library in my "Pictures" folder, but when I selected that to open, what opened was a very old library with only a few pictures from early 2011.  I had hundreds of photos and albums since then, but none of them show up.  Is there a way of getting back my photos?  If that isn't possible, I do have a backup of my hard drive (a cloned copy using SuperDuper) on a separate external drive - when I boot up from that drive, my most recently saved iPhotos are all there.  Is there a way I can import the iPhoto library from my backup drive to my main computer drive?  I tried opening iPhoto from my main drive using the iPhoto library from the backup drive (by opening iPhoto with the option key held down, and then selecting the iPhoto library on the backup drive), but what opened was just the very old library.
Today I discovered something that may or may not be related.  When I opened my computer to add something to iCal, iCal was nowhere to be found.  It had always been in my Applications folder, and I have never had a problem with it before.  I did a spotlight search for iCal, and nothing showed up.  I noticed that I did have an iCal icon in the applications folder of the backup drive, but when I started up from the backup drive and tried to open iCal, I got a message that the application had unexpectedly quit.  I don't look at iCal frequently, so am not sure if this happened at the same time that I lost my iPhoto library, or afterwards.
In any case, it's rather disconcerting.

Thanks for the response.  I had tried that, and no, it didn't open up my missing albums and pictures. Very strange. I finally went to Apple support and paid $19 for single incident support - after some preliminary attempts, the support person took over my computer and then we spent over two hours trying all kinds of things.  And yes, we did finally get the pictures back, but we did so many things that I can't really say how we did it !
But again, thanks for the response.  Still haven't been able to find my missing iCal (tried reloading the 10.6.8 update combo from the Apple website, but that didn't relaod the application.  We found all the iCal info that's still on the computer, but not the application itself).

  • How can I change the order of photos in iPhoto so I can create the slide show I want?

How to change the order of photos in iPhoto on my iPad, so I can create the slide show I want.

Here's what I did to generate a slide show with Ken Burns effect on the iPad...with the exact same slide order I created on the iMac.  I have iOS 5.5 and iPhoto App on New iPad, and iPhoto 11 on iMac.
In iPhoto for the Mac, create a new Album and give it the name of your Slide Show. Drag or import the photos you want into the album.  Rearrange the order of the album photos as desired. Do this by selecting Manual Sort under View/Sort Photos or simply start dragging thumbnails to the places you want them (the sort method will automatically change to Manual).
When you have the order you want, shut down iPhoto on the Mac to make sure iPhoto's database gets updated with the new photos and their order.
Restart iPhoto and go to File/Export on the top menu.  Select File Export at the top left of the Export window. Set JPEG quality to Max, Size to Full Size, and File Name to Album Name and Number.  Set Subfolder Format to None.
Click Export to bring up what looks like the Finder.  Create an empty folder on your hard drive under Pictures and give it the name of your slide show. Click on the new folder and then click OK at the bottom right of the Finder-like window.  The new folder will contain JPEG files with file names in the form, Album Name - 001.jpeg, Album Name - 002.jpeg, etc.  There will also be an iPOD Photo Cache folder.  Click at the top of the Name column to order files by file name.  001 will be your first slide, 002 your second, etc.
Now start up iTunes. You are going to force the Mac to sync these new photos with the iPad.  Click on your iPad device in the list at the left.  Now click on the Photo button at top right. Make sure the Sync Photos check box at top is checked, then select Choose Folder... from the list at right.  In the Finder-like window that opens, select the folder where your slides are.  Make sure that All Folders is checked, then select Open at the bottom right.
Now click Sync at bottom right.  The slides will be copied to your iPad.  Both the Photos app and the iPhoto app will properly handle the slide order, and the Ken Burns effect is available using the iPhoto app.
I ran across this problem in preparing a Ken Burns slide show for a wedding.  Drove me nuts for a week why the order changes when syncing an iPhoto album from iMac to iPad.  But this worked and gave me several options.  I plan to use the digital AV adapter for iPad and show slides on a large screen TV using HDMI connection from iPad to TV.  TV essentially acts as an external monitor for the iPad.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can I attach comments to a photo in iPhoto '11 and then have it show when I forwarded it via email?

I'd like to send photos to friends with comments comments about the photo. How can I do that? I'm using iPhoto '11 with Leopard.

    Depends...
Most easy: simply attach the pic to an email and write the comments in the email
Most complex: Use the Description field in the Info Pane to write you comments, export the shot (File -> Export), checking the box at 'Titles and Keywords', and then email that. But be aware that the comment will be written to the IPTC metadata and the receiver at the other end will need an app that understands that.

  • Duplicating large size  (7 MB) photos in IPhoto 08

I am using IPhoto 08 with Leopard OS. I have a new camera and when I download 7MB photos to IPhoto and duplicate the photo, IPhoto reduces the size of the duplicated photo to about half (3.9 MB in this case).
When I download and dublicate photos of 4 MB, the size of the duplicated photo remains the same as the original.

What size is the original photo in the info pane of iPhoto?
My 7 meg photos are 3072 by 2304 - 6,248,448 but as imported jpegs (fine resolution) their size in iphoto is typically 2.8 to 3.0 meg

  • How can I find and remove duplicate photos in iPhoto?

What is the best way to find and remove duplicate photos in iPhoto?

Are you seeing these duplicates in iPhoto or via the Finder?  If it's in the iPhoto window then you can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when one library has been imported into another with iPhoto 8 and earlier.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
I also prefer iPLM as it is more than just a dup finder.  It's a the most versatile iPhoto utility available.

  • How can I edit size of imported photo?

I imported a photo image. I bought a size too small. I cropped the max. width and required height.  It does not span across my website page. Can I add a rectangle 55 pixels wide x 281 pixels high on each end (like a border)?  And then color it black or whatever.  How do I get this done?  Thanks.

In the menu, select Image > Canvas Size. It's pretty straightforward.

  • Mp3 opens in new window ... can I control SIZE of window?

I am opening both an mp3 in a new window \ and a Quicktime movie. Two separate links. But both come up as a Safari window quite large. They can be immediately resized of course, but it will be annoying for the visitor to have to do so. I want the window to be the size of the element, more or less ... the mp3 a control bar in a little box, and the Quicktime in a box the size of the Quicktime frame.
Is there a way to have this happen without writing html into the iWeb code after-the-fact. I'm trying to show the client how easy it is to do his own website changes on the road. Writing html ain't going to turn his crank.
    All ears,
    Ben

On this page at the bottom left of the text you see two links.
The first one displays a window you want and the second link displays the code you need.

You have to paste the JavaScript in the HTML Snippet and change the URL to your page.

  • Can't change size of attached photos when emailed.

I scan photos to my desk top and then work on them with Elements 8.  I save back to my desk top.  I try to attach them to a email and want to reduce the size.  I set it for medium size but it only goes to a very small picture that is hard to see.  It can not be enlarged when recieved.  I can send as actual size and it will send them,  but they are  very big files.   I can send a photo that has not been worked on with no problem.   Am I changing the type,  it says jpeg?

What is the original size in pixel dimensions of the scans?
(look under Image>Resize>Image Size to read the pixel dimensions and then just press cancel in the dialog)
You can reduce the pixel dimensions of the photo in the photoshop elements editor
under Image>Resize>Image Size with resample image and constrain proportions checked:
You could also use File>Save for Web:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/WS287f927bd30d4b1f-118f00f612e28b29a0a -8000.html
    Added:
Also when scanning you might want to save the scans to your desktop as tif files instead of jpegs.
You'll probably get better quality scans as the jpeg format can cause artifacts because of lossy compression.
