To an extent yes. You can't control the master volume, but tou can turn the volume up and down, up to the maximum set manually on your computer.

Can't control volume on LED Cinema Display from keyboard

I have a LED Cinema Display attached to my Mac Mini. The volume control buttons on the keyboard don't work anymore. The only way I can change the volume is to use the volume control on the video I am watching. I tried the headset trick on the output port on the Mini, and now that works with the volume keys. But, the display volume is still not working. Any hints?

The reason why that has happened in the first place is because MAC OS, is programed to not adjust the volume through an HDMI interface. If you have the volume control shown on the upper bar like i do, it appears light grey.When you click on it you cannot move it up or down. This is of course what the keyboard controles for volume. It does not control the program.

Can't control volume

When I play songs, my iPod is silent. I press the + button and the volume goes up but then immediately decreases, back to silence. I try locking the volume in place by clicking the large button to the right (not sure what it's called...the main on-off switch), but that has no effect. I can watch the volume setting decrease immediately on the volume display.
Is this due to getting sweat or moisture inside?
I may have to try resetting the device but hate to lose all those playlists.

NOTE: "Resetting" the iPod will not erase the iPod and you should definitely try it. It just "reboots" the iPod. This is the procedure

If you've exhausted other possibilites, you should eventually try doing a Restore on the iPod. This is done in iTunes, on the iPod's Summary tab (when you select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar under DEVICES). This WILL erase the iPod, reinstall the latest software, and set it to default settings.
If the cause is a software or settings glitch, it may be fixed. If there's a hardware problem, it won't help.

I can not control volume levels with headphones

I tried lot's of models but none of them let me control volume levels. Since the xperia z 3 is a big phone and I carry it in my pocket all the time, sometimes it's really hard to reach the phone to lover or increase the music level. It's a big shame that sony doesn't think of it.... Please help me if u know any headphone models that allows volume control. Thnx

HT1386 can I control whether the iphone overrides the mac or vice versa when syncing

I want to use my iphone's contact information to populate iCloud on my mac, and my iPad. ( the information in the phone was downloaded from a Treo phone and is most accurate). How do I control which device 'reigns' over the others when doing a sync?

First, your mac will not be able to sync with iCloud if your aren't running OS X Lion (10.7.2 or later). Also, you don't want to be syncing your contacts with both iCloud and iTunes or you will end up with duplicates. Choose one and disable the other.
What I do is turn off iCloud contact syncing and get all your contacts to match first, then turn iCloud contact syncing back on. To do this, follow these steps:
Turn off iCloud syncing on your devices by going to Settings>iCloud and turning Contact to Off. When prompted choose to keep your data on your device. (If you are running OS X Lion and are syncing contacts on your mac with iCloud you will want to go to System Preferences and uncheck contacts syncing there as well.)
Download and use the app My Contacts Backup. If your phone contacts are the ones you want to transfer to your other devices, use the app on your phone to back up your contacts as an attachment to an email. Send this email to yourself.
Delete the contacts on your iPad by tapping the settings (gear shaped) icon at the bottom right of My Contacts Backup. In the window that opens, scroll to the bottom and tap Remover All Contacts. Next, open the email you sent earlier on your iPad and tap the attachment to import the contacts from your phone. Your iPad contacts should now match the contacts on your phone.
On you mac, open Address Book, tap a single contact, press Command-A to select all contacts, go to File>Export>Export vCard, save this file on your desktop. This is just a precautionary backup that can be used to restore your contacts if anything goes wrong. Now select all contacts in Address Book as before and press your Delete key to remove them. Next, open the My Contacts Backup email on your mac and double-click the attachment to import the contacts from your phone to Address Book. Now your Address Book contacts should match the contacts on your phone as well.
Go to iCloud.com, sign into your account and open your contacts. If your contacts are still there, click on a single contact, press Command-A to select all contacts, press the Delete key to remove them.
Now turn on iCloud contact syncing on your devices again; if prompted choose merge. As all your contacts now match you shouldn't have any issues with which one takes precedence in uploading to iCloud.

Can I control iPad via iPhone?

I want to live broadcast church services over 4g AT&T network. I am using qik video and/or ustream.com. Is there an app I can use to control recording functions of the iPad from my iPhone a few feet away?

I've tested it with ustream and qik.com and it works fine. Hi Def. We are an outdoor church at the beach (www.beachsidechurch.com). My problem has been a lack of WIFI in this immediate area. The main reason I got the 4g ipad was for this very purpose.
I've got the setup with an ipad mount pointing at me. I just want to be able to turn record on and off remotely.

Suddenly can't control volume and hear no sound.

All of a sudden today I can't hear any sound, and my volume controls aren't working. Using either F4 or F5 the volume controls come up but they're disabled. Same with the controls in the top right of the screen and those in System Preferences.
The last time I heard audio was yesterday using headphones. When sound "should" be playing the red light comes on inside my hearphone jack. It may believe that my headphones are still in, but even then I should be able to increase or decrease the volume.
I did an automatic Software Update yesterday but didn't pay much mind to what I installed but I'm fairly sure it included an update to iTunes. Not sure if it's related.

But I downloaded the firmware update and OSX said I didn't need an update.
As well- your method of unplugging and plugging in doesn't work.

Can't control volume on toslink ?

I have the Apple TV connected to a Linn Movie Di (5 channel amp) via the optical connection. I'm getting audio, but the volume is constant--changing the volume level on the amp has no effect? Has anybody seen this problem?

as an A/V professional, i would consider this feature a flaw with the comcast box. when you program your cable box's remote with you TV or stereo system's code, the volume control then defaults to the TV/stereo's volume control. if anything, each product should only have gain adjustments in the setup menu to allow devices to be balanced to each other.
as a linn owner, you should have some regard for sound quality and understand that if apple did provide volume control for the apple tv to the masses, that thousands of people would have the volume on the apple tv very low and the volume on their stereos cranked up very high... creating a gain problem and thus reducing fidelity.

Not able to control volume up/down while using Digital AV Adapter.

I am using iPhone 5, iPad 4 and digital av adapter. Video mirroring works fine but can't control volume while the devices are plugged with the digital av adapter. The volume button just disappear when it is plugged.
I use 24 inch monitor with speaker and non-apple HDMI cable.
Wondering anyone has any idea.

When an apple device is connected to a HDMI display e.g. a TV, it is possible indeed usual for the sound output to be also automatically sent over the HDMI connection to the TV speakers. This works fine.
However, in this configuration the on-screen volume control on the apple device is disabled and the device has no way itself to control the volume level. The volume level can be controlled on the TV. As this stands, this could be considered normal correct behavior.

Is there a way to be able to still control volume while using a multi-output device?

I just need to know if I can still control volume while using a multi-output device (or an aggregate device, whichever one blocks the volume changing) because I am trying to record my screen using Quicktime while recording sound on my screen (using soundflower). Any suggestions? I am happy to download an external program to fix it.

Well we already found that answer somewhere on a forum, I guess you mean add the URL to firewall exception,
but this doesn't fit Company Security Standard, in my company we cannot allow a computer access internet
directly exception or not, it is very sad that a company such as Adobe is not able to produce a tool that is
Proxy Aware for all it's functions (Software activation, Software Serial Checking etc. all doesn't behave the same way).
We need a solution ASAP as many of our users are not able to use their Adobe Softwares.
