Can I control what an uploaded file plays on?

When I upload an MPEG-4 Quicktime movie from my Mac, and then download it from a PC, the PC defaults to RealTime, tries to play it on that, and then determines that it can't.
Is there a way for me to export and upload a file that will automatically play in whatever is the best option for a given user?
If not, what should I be aiming for here? I want this to work easily for the largest number of people possible - IE on a PC.
Thanks a lot.
J.

if the PC user has the machine set for particular files to run in a particular application, the files will only load as directed
you would need to write an applet to run when files are down loaded, determine what applications are on the PC, and change the files preference settings.
if you have users on a network or have a fireall or security software installed, then those may block downloads or applets changing settings anyway!
do you know any proggrammers?

  • How can i control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?

    Sup buddies,
    How can I control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?
    As the project grows in size the load time increases. How does one control not loading all images ,divs,elements etc. until they're
    needed on the timeline? For example some sections are off and only become visible when recalled. My projects slowly grow in size so loading
    all images , is counter productive . My other option would be to create separate htmls but that breaks the seamless user experience .

    hello, kiwi
    quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
    another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

  • HT1947 "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played using the iOS remote app.

    Tell me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that the "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played through the Apple TV using the iOS remote app.  The whole thing seem uber-anti-intuitive.  I am a long time user (as much and anyone is long time for any of this stuff) of the iOS remote app, and ATV to play music though a stereo system.  Up to a couple of weeks ago, I could sit in my chair, start the iPhone remote app, pick a playlist and either start from the beginning, or if the first track didn't grab me at that moment, go ahead and switch to, say, track 6 -- the whole playlist would "sit there" and be available for further browsing.  With the new system, if I hit a playlist the songs will go into "Up Next".  If as I described in the last sentence, the first song is not getting it for me, and I switch to track 6 , the "Up Next" list is lopped off and only tracks 7 onward will be shown.  I can't go back and browse the first 5 tracks (6 actually) -- they're vaporized.  The idea of browsing your own music has been killed; I guess this "Up Next" concept is for folks who like maybe a couple of dozen songs that are picked from different places and want to play them in different orders of something -- it just seems like a crummy idea.  If under the scenario I described I want to go back and play that first (or second through fifth) song on the original playlist, I have to go out and fish it out of the library somehow and just keep messing around and around.  There have been times when I didn't know what the heck was going to come out of the speakers.  It seems like the remote user has not been considered in the "dramatically improved" iTunes 11", with the "cleaner user interface" .  To me it is "dramatically akin to dog-doo", which, of course is not cleaner than much of anything.  If I can't get this working decently, then I'm really thinking of investigating some other type of system like DLNA.  Any suggestions?

    Same problem here.  I have so many problems with this remote app.  Is there an iTunes API? I would like to write my own remote app that actually works.

  • How can I back up my uploaded files in iTunes Match?

    I have started uploading files to my iTunes Match library but during the process, I got error 4002. Don't  know what this means. I already checked my connection and everything is good. What I did is I cleared my hard drive and reinstalled my OS and then started over. I noticed that some of the songs are greyed out. I cannot play or download the files that are greyed out. Do you have any ideas on how I can get the greyed out files on my iTunes Match library? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Did you delete your music from your hard drive when you reinstalled your OS.
    Match scans your iTunes library and from the brief info that you provide, it would appear that the match process had not completed. Therefore you have greyed out songs.
    You will need to restore those tracks from your backup. I trust that you have a backup of all your music!

  • When I listen to music on Apple TV 2 my pictures from iPhoto come in, but always the same album (which I nevr asked for), always in random order and always in a different format. How can I control what is going on and choose the album myself.

    When I listen to music on Apple TV 2 my pictures from iPhoto come in aafter about ten minutes, but always the same album (which I never asked for), always in random order and always in a different format. How can I choose a different album myself and control the order and format?

    Thank you Winston for a helpful response and for reminding me of something which I found nearly a year ago and then lost (in my mind) because I did not use it. I am grateful for a correct answer but it still only achieves part of what I wanted.
    I can now choose my photos, decide how long they stay on screen and choose one of a variety of presentations. Two things I still can't do.
    One is to get it to play the photos in the chronological order in which I have carefully set them in an album; it still tends to be random and repetitive. The other is that I cannot get any of them them to saty on screen for more than about 20 seconds. I guess this is all due to the way Apple TV is constructed.
    But still thanks, nevertheless.

  • How can I control what music is stored on my iPhone?

    Apple has decided that all the music I purchase from them is going to be constantly changing disorganized mess of deleted songs and placeholder albums and is controlled by it's own zombie scheduling. I makes me very, VERY angry. I see two options, rip all my iTunes purchases as MP3s, or buy and Android (really not serious about that, but this has been an issue since IOS7). Any other last ditch strategies I should consider???

    Sounds like somethings very wrong ...
    If capacity is a constraint, and things don't add up for you, you might be carrying a large photo collection in your Camera Roll -- more so than you may think.  There seems to be an issue with some users where the photo usage does not add up between what is displayed vs. the true amount of storage being taken by photos.  Some users resolved this by:
    (a) Temporarily turn off automatic date/time:  Settings/ General/ Date&Time/ Set Automatically/ OFF.
    (b) Manually set your iPhone's date and time to somewhere in or before August 2014.
    (c) Go to your Photos app and look in your "Recently Deleted" folder.  You may find a LOT of photos there that weren't before.
    (d) Re-delete all the recently deleted photos from this folder.
    (e) Go back to (a) and set your date&time automatically.
    That may be your first problem.
    You may also have "All Songs" turned on, which shows you all songs you've purchased even if they're not actually on your iPhone.  Go to:
    Settings/ iTunes & App Store and then turn the "Show All" option OFF for both Music and Video.
    Now, if you had the "Show All" enabled and selected one of these iCloud songs, they will download to your iPhone and you may have a heck of a time removing them.  If you've done this, the best method I've found is:
    (a) Set the iPhone for Manually Manage Music & Video (sounds like you already do this).
    (b) While connected to iTunes, open the contents of the iPhone and select all songs and delete them.
    (c) Manually initiate a local (not iCloud) backup of your iPhone to your computer.
    (d) Restore the iPhone, then select the backup.  Let your phone re-populate all the apps (should be no music)
    (e) Disconnect and check the Music app, verify that there truly is no music.  If there is, go to:
    Settings/ General/ Usage/ Manage Storage/ Music, then swipe across "All Songs" (from right to left) and select Delete.
    (f) Reset your iPhone, or do another backup and restore.
    That should clear out all music ... now re-populate your music, either manually or auto-sync all songs or partial (i.e. sync to selected playlists, artists, etc.)  If you want to autosync just part of your library, you can.  My library exceeds 100GB yet I autosync about 42GB of that to my 64GB iPhone. This is done by defining what I want synced via a series of playlists, some of which auto-populate based on my ratings and what I play (i.e. some songs drop out for awhile once I listen to them) as well as static playlist where I can manually place complete albums I want to remain.  The first auto-sync takes an hour or two, but subsequent auto-syncs only take a matter of minutes -- the whole thing doesn't re-sync each time, just what changed.

  • Can you control changes when uploading?

    I would like to be able to control the changes made to the website when uploading through FTP and not business catalyst.  Apparently the feature is available on business catalyst, but not a 3rd party server.  What happens is that if I load the website from different machines, home and work, then all the progress and files uploaded at work get erased if I upload the site from home.
    A feature that would allow to keep work done, and only add new files would help my productivity a lot.  I am having to remote into office to work on site.

    I suspect you've misinterpreted behavior you've seen.
    The .muse file records when each page of your site was altered. When a site is uploaded (to BC or Upload to FTP Host) a file named muse_manifest.xml is written to the server. This file records the exact versions of all the files on your site.
    The next time you open the .muse file and upload to the same site, Muse reads the muse_manifest.xml file to determine which pages (and associated files) need to be regenerated and uploaded. As long as the same .muse file is used on the two computers, Muse will upload only the minimal set of files.
    What many don't immediately realize, is that when you take an update of Muse the code generation is likely to have changed (for performance improvements, bug fixes, compatibility changes for browser updates, bug fixes, new features, etc.). Since the code generation changes with a new version of Muse, and the files on a website are largely interrelated, all the files on the server need to be generated by the same version of Muse. If there's a change in Muse version, a large set of files will need to be uploaded.
    Perhaps you have slightly different versions of Muse at work and at home? That would cause a large number of files to be uploaded each time you switch between versions.

  • How can I control a video from automatically playing in Foxfire?

    I'm tired of those pesky video ads running and eating up my bandwidth while loading when visiting sites.  Is there a way I can control when to allow a video to load and play using Foxfire or IE?  For those that do not have high speed internet and rely on dial-up or cell modem to connect, those ads really slow down a page from loading.  HELP!

    You're welcome

  • Can't make an anamorphic QT file play in iDVD at 16:9

    Using latest updated Snow Leopard, which came with the machine, and iDVD 7.1. Shot a movie in anamorphic, edited and saved the file as a Quicktime movie from newly purchased FCE, loaded into iDVD ticking the 16:9 box and saving iDVD before loading the QT file and all looked fine. iDVD appeared as a 16:9 template, when I click play in iDVD the movie shows 4:3 with a gray area on both sides.
    I searched through here and saw a lot of post for an anamophizer, so tried it and, it appears it is not for Snow Leopard. So what am I missing in loading a 16:9 FCE file into iDVD to play at the proper screen size? I've dumped preferences, dumped and restarted, saved before loading the movie.......but no joy.

    but I have QT 10.......I should drop to QT 7??
    Like I said: you must have Quicktime 7 running. Anamorphizer will NOT work with Quicktime X.
    If you don't have QT 7 running when you try to use Anamorphized, it will try to use QT X which won't work.
    From another of my postings on the topic:
    Get Anamorphizer at http://homepage.mac.com/sith33/FileSharing34.html
    Make sure Quicktime 7 is open before you try Anamorphizer. (NOTE: You MUST use Quicktime 7 and NOT Quicktime X)
    Place a copy of your movie clip in a new folder and drag that clip over the Anamorphizer icon. This should create a second file in that folder that start with Anamorphic- This is the reference movie you drag-and-drop into iDVD. Note that your clip in that folder (which is the movie the reference movie points to, must not be moved or deleted).

  • Who can tall me what are the files of adoption.plist, ute.plist and utdcheckinDone?

    I found three files: adoption.plist, utd.plist and utdCheckinDone  from HD--Library--Application support--Apple Store.  It maked my Mac unsecured.  Whatever I changed password in each email account and Apple password become incorrect.  After it are deleted, it seems to me those passwords become correct.  Anyone can give me idea what it is?  Thank you.

    Thanks for reply.  I appreciate that that explaination.  I bought this Mac since Feb 13, 2014.  it has been reinstall 3 times.  Recently, I found a file; admin.plish on HD--Library--Security--Trust setting folder.  It is created on April 4, 2014.  In HD--Library--Messages--Plugins--Yahoo.imservicePlugin--Contents, it has info.plish and version.plish.  Both files were created on 2/2/14, Modified 2/26/14.  If it is update, it should be come in from Apple Store, but I don't see those update, or may come from program creater slicely.  What it is?  If it has chance, let me know please.  Thanks again.

  • How can I control the volume of songs played through AirTunes?

    I have an AirPort Express, with which I use to stream my iTunes music library through an external pair of speakers.
    But whenever I use the volume keys on my keyboard, it only adjusts the system volume, not my AirPlay Speakers.
    Is there a way for me to control the volume of my AirPlay Speakers through the volume button on the menu bar?
    Or do I have to download some sort of third party app?
    Thanks.

    If you are playing it through Airplay from your itunes you can adjust the volume by clicking on the Airplay icon and selecting multiple
    Of course if your playing through something like a Bose Soundock you need to manually set the max volume on it and Airplay works within that limit

  • Can I control what disk/directory my sql is opened from/saved to?

    I keep my sql scripts on a separate flash drive.
    Is there a way that I can tell SQL Developer to look in that location first
    when I do an Open or a Save?
    I always have to navigate from another drive/directory.
    Thanks!

    K,
    It's not always about convincing me of the need for some enhancements. We understand the frustration, we also use the product. As you know we sit on the JDeveloper IDE, so some features are not in our control. We have enhancement requests and bugs posted on JDeveloper and they have enhancements and bugs against us. With our different release cycle it means that some requests take a little longer than others. We only own some of the file dialogs, not only that, we need to ensure that the features we support through the dialogs are available on the various platforms we support, so switching to the windows native file dialogs, for example, was not an option. We're not being stubborn, just finding a suitable solution for all parties can take a little longer.

  • Can I control  filenaming when archiving  files using the file adapter?

    Hi folks,
    Is there anyway to control the filename used when the File Adapter writes out to an archive?
    Second question, I also need to be able to pass a "filename" to the adapter from an "input file." Is there a way to do this in the file adapter?
    Sincerely,
    lpac

    Hi,
    I have done that with the ftp adapter. In the .xsl file I wrote the following after the <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" ....> tag:
    <xsl:variable name="INFILENAME" select="ehdr:getRequestHeader('/fhdr:InboundFTPHeaderType/fhdr:fileName','fhdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/ftp/;')"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <xsl:variable name="OUTFILENAME"
    select="ehdr:setOutboundHeader('/fhdr:OutboundFileHeaderType/fhdr:fileName', $INFILENAME, 'fhdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/pcbpel/adapter/file/;')"/>
    <opaque:opaqueElement>
    <xsl:value-of select="/opaque:opaqueElement"/>
    </opaque:opaqueElement>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>
    To use this with the file adapter, you would have to wirte file where is written ftp.
    Hope this helps,
    Zaloa

  • Removing the 'music note' - Can i control what album cover is displayed as the cover album under the artists tab in the Music app?

    Ive searched for the longest and havent found a solution to removing the 'music note' . For example, i might have 10 albums under a particular artist, 1 of which i have no cover art for and it seems that thats the album chose to display. No matter the year or particular order the album falls in under the artist. Most artists that have a missing album cover dont show it but the ones that do still annoy me. I know im not the first to ask this so what can be done? Help me out
    P.s. this is an issue ive had since the ipad 2 as the music app hasnt changed. Im running the latest software (5.1)

    Its not the cover art itself, I know how to ADD album art.. Some albums just dont have cover art for whatever reason - problem is, that these albums are randomly chosen as the first album cover of an artist in the music library on my ipad. For example, i have a local artist album with no cover - he has 4 albums but the one thats diplayed at their name is of course the music note indicating theres no album artwork.
    So why the **** does it choose the ONE album with no artwork and is there a way i can designate which album i want displayed for a particular artist?

  • Can't control what gets Home Shared?

    Hey gang-
    I have Home Sharing enabled on my desktop iMac as well as on our brand new Apple TV. Works great- except that I want to Home Share only my Music from iTunes- not my Movies or TV Shows. In the iTunes Preference Pane, under Sharing, I have chosen "Selected Playlists" and only "Music".
    But on Apple TV under Computers it continues to display all my Movies and TV Shows- in addition to Music. Is there no way to control this? I rebooted both my Mac and power-cycled the Apple TV, but no help.
    Thanks!

    Same problem here. I went away for a few days and came back to find ATV2 not connecting to network...despite the network being clearly visible and connected in the setting menu. ATV2 would say its not connected and not be able to access the Itunes library.
    I reset everything, re-entered all the info and finally decided that the ATV had gone wrong, went out and bought a new one (i need 2 anyway) got home to find that the original one had now decided to work ok. Sadly it only did so for about an hour now its gone off again.
    Bloody frustrating. I updated it hoping it would fix the problem but to no avail.
