Can I convert Quark 7 to Indesign without plugin Q2ID?

I need one Quark file (Quark 7) converted to Indesign CS3, is there a way that I can do this without the Plugin Q2ID? Thanks for your help.

Kathlene,
My post wast't directed specifically at you as much as meant to be a clarification of the rules. Someone (perhaps you) said they knew people who used the software to convert files for other users. I just wanted to make sure future readers would understand the difference between using Q2ID as part of the normal get-a-file/convert/work-with-file/return-new-file-to-client workflow and offering an I'll-convert-your-files-for-you-so-you-don't-have-to-buy-a-copy service.

What is the best software/plugin for converting Quark files to Indesign?
I don't want to upgrade to the latest Quark now i've got CC so going to make the leap to indesign only. Does Indesign auto convert or do I need anything else?

ID does not load QXD files. There is a respective commercial third-party plug-in to that effect, but it's rather pricey and I'm not up to speed which versions of Quark and ID it supports and which features come over. Inquire in the ID forum.

  • Can I make a PDF form that can be filled/saved in Illustrator/InDesign without Acrobat Pro?

Can I make a PDF form that can be filled out and (more importantly saved) in Illustrator or InDesign without having to use Adobe Acrobat Pro?
I only have Adobe Reader XI. Do I need to purchase Adobe Acrobat Pro in order to make a PDF form that can be filled out and saved by others? or is it possible to do this solely through Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Adobe Reader?

InDesign can export to a filable form, assuming you add the fields in InDesign (6/CC) and export as an interactive PDF. You can't create a form with Reader or Illustrator. You also can't Reader-enable with anything other than Acrobat, so Reader users will have to use version 11 in order to save a filled-in form.

Reader cannot convert files to Word. There is an ExportPDF service with its own forum to help with issues to the service. However, converting files to Word is by its very nature an iffy proposition. How well it works depends upon the content of the file and how it was created.

  • Can you convert a PDF to InDesign?

I have another question: Is there any way to convert PDF files back to  InDesign without downloading a converter plug-in? It seems to make sense  that Adobe would have a tool for this function, but I haven't had any  luck in finding it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

You asked this question already as part of another thread. Please look there for responses.

  • Converting Quark Files to InDesign CS3

Currently have had problems converting a Quark 5.0 file into ID CS3 Windows platform. It is my understanding that ID CS3 only accepts Quark 4.1 and under...is there anyway around this? The person with the Quark 5.0 file is not able to 'Save As' a 4.1 or lower version; the software doesn't allow it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Email it to me and I'll convert it for you. If you get a lot of these,
you might want to invest in Q2ID from Markzware.

  • Converting Quark files

I'm switching from Quark 6.5 to InDesign. To convert an existing 6.5 file, I'm told to first save it back to 4.0 BUT Quark will only let me save back to 5.0. How can I open the file in InDesign without having to purchase Marksware? Thanks.

If you have a full library of files, then the money spent on the
Markzware plugin will pay for itself over and over again.
If you only have one file, you can send it to me and I'll convert it for
you. Click on my name, go to my website for contact info.

  • Converting old Quark applescript to InDesign - problems

    Hello
I'm converting an old Quark applescript to InDesign CS3 finally. I'm having a problem with placing, scaling and adjusting images.
Here's how it works ... a user fills out a Microsoft Word form, which a designer unlocks and pastes into the layout, and then runs the script. The image frames are all labeled, and that's how I'd like to call them.
Here's a snippet of the Quark portion that I'm having a problem with ...
set Todayicon to item (offset from list Dayicons of Todayval) of DayIconEPS
set Todayiconpath to (OPIpath and Todayicon as string)
set Todayicon to item 1 of Todayiconpath
    set scale of Todayicon to {"65","65"}
    set offset of Todayicon to {"-1p2","0p5"}
And here's what I'm thinking I need to do in InDesign CS3 ...
set Todayicon to item (offset from list Dayicons of Todayval) of DayIconEPS
set Todayiconpath to (OPIpath and Todayicon as string)
set Todayicon to item 1 of Todayiconpath
set TodayiconTransformationMatrix to make transformation matrix with properties {horizontal scale factor:0.65, vertical scale factor:0.65, geometric bounds:[-14,-5]
transform Todayicon in inner coordinates with matrix TodayiconTransformationMatrix
Unfortunately, the script errors out when it tries to make the transformation matrix, even though I'm following the examples in the Working with Tranformations in Applescript pdf.
Any ideas? I guess I can put dummy images in the layout and call a "Place" to override the dummy images, which should keep the scale, but it doesn't help me when I need to offset the images sometimes.

Philip Regan wrote: "The new scripting model with all of its touted advantaged is really poorly executed."
While I didn't design the scripting model for transformations, and disagree with some of the decisions made in the design, I understand that InDesign's transformations architecture had to be rewritten for CS3. There were too many cases in CS2 where objects could not be returned to their original coordinates after transformation. The scripting implementation pretty much had to go along with the change in the underlying architecture.
If you'd rather things work the way they worked in CS2, why not use the set of transform "wrappers" that I wrote and included in the transform tutorial? With those functions, you don't really need to worry about the new model.
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Convert quark to Indesign

How to convert quark file to Indesign

    Hi publisher,
You can choose File > Open, select the file wants to be opened in InDesign to open documents and templates created with QuarkXPress or QuarkXPress. There are some recent verions of Quark that are not supported by InDesign. So if your file is created in earlier versions of quark, it may seem working in InDesign when opening, else recent versions are not supported.

  • How can I convert files from pages 08 files without pages 09?

I am extremely dissatisfied with the latest iWork (13?) applications. My 2008 MacbookPro crashed on me, so I purchased a new 15" MacbookPro last month. Due to a known issue that prohibits my new Mac from being restored from my Time Capsule backup (thanks, Apple...), we finally got it worked out so that all my files were restored, but I had to reinstall my applications as I could find them. I had iWork 09 on my old machine, but it was from a family pack years ago, for which I do not have the discs. So, now I don't have Pages 09 to convert all my older files (I had no legitimate reason to convert my graduate work from 08 because it all worked in '08 and '09) so that I can open all my .pages files in Pages. Why would Apple make Pages that cannot open .pages files?! This is quite frustrating, and I'm hoping someone has an answer for how to convert .pages files from iWork '08 so that I can open them in the latest Pages without having to purchase iWork '09 (AGAIN!). Apple is really ramping up its leaving people behind...

    Those are your choices.
Buy iWork '09 which is a good solution or somehow reinstall Pages '08 so you can export to Word .doc/x files.
We warned long and hard that not updating to Pages '09 would eventually lead to Pages '08 being left behind, although Apple was particularly ruthless the way it finally did it.
Also that anything using Apple's proprietary formats is going to end up with the same fate.

  • How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money?

How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money and time? I've spent over seven hours trying to upgrade an iMac 350 Hz OS 9.1 to Tiger. I have changed the iMac firmware to 4.1.9, but found that my Panther disc was only an OSX Upgrade, although the 3 cds are labeled as Installation Discs. Since I have a Tiger disc I thought I would use that. Unfortunately, my iMac only reads CDs, not DVDs. I tried networking the iMac to my G5, but upon shutdown, the OSX disc cannot be accessed. I copied the DVD files to my iMac hard drive, but again, the OSX disc cannot be accessed after shutdown.
Is there a way I can burn a CD from the files of my Tiger DVD to get this task accomplished?

Excuse me, but I never thought of that, nor did I have any intention of trying to rip off your company.
I purchased four iPods for my family this Christmas. I have six iMacs just sitting around not being used. I thought that I would turn one into an iPod work station, so everyone can use one computer to recharge and hook up to iTunes 7.
Unfortunately, iTunes does not work very well in OS9. Apple decided not to continue to support OS9 very well. I’ve spent several hours attempting to upgrade the iMac so I could set up iTunes 7. Unfortunately, my 3 Panther Installation Discs were mislabeled, and did not allow me to install OSX over OS9. My OSX 10.2.7 Installation Disc is a DVD, and my Tiger Installation disc is a DVD. Neither usable to update the iMac.
All I want to do is set up a dumb iMac as a network interface to my G5 because I've use all of the G5's ports for our recording studio and the iPods need external power source if they are plugged directly into the G5.
If you could show me an easier way to run iTunes 7 on the iMac I wouldn't be as ****** off as I am at Apple for not supporting the 9 older computers I own with usable help and upgrades.

How can I convert a .pdf file to an Indesign CC file which is editable?

    Hi btacme,
I understand there are some third-party utilities that will allow you to convert a PDF to an InDesign file. But, as PDF is intended to be a final format, Adobe doesn't offer this capability. Are you unable to make the edits that you need by opening the PDF in Acrobat?

Can I convert a camera Firewire output connector to a USB input on a laptop without having to buy a Canopus box or other expensive piece of equipment?

Unfortunately, no. Firewire and USB are two entirely different methods of transfering data. There's no simple/cheap converter out there. You will have to look into either purchasing a canopus device or get a computer which will support a firewire or video input.

Just spent 10 days in Ireland with our recently-purchased iPad and had no trouble charging it with the proper adaptor. NOTE: The UK uses a different adapter than continental Europe. Make sure you have the right adaptor for the counties you will visit. This article is helpful:
