"How do i convert songs/albums into 256 w/out reloading the cd?"
You don't. You will need to re-import.
" is it best to import at 256kbps for all music."
That is a matter of personal preference. You can have higher quality sound (but larger file size) or smaller file size ( but lower quality sound). It's up to you.

  • Converting Songs to 128kbps and AAC

How do you convert songs to 128kbps and to an AAC format?

    1) Confirm you import settings are set to the desired format. In ITunes go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Importing than select in your case ACC encoder and the desired bitrate.
    2) Highlight the desired songs to be converted using shift (Music store songs will not convert but they would be in this format anyways) than right click and say Convert Selection to ACC.

  • Can't convert song files in iTunes 6

Yeah, I can't convert files anymore in iTunes 6 when I command click on a song. These isn't any "Convert to AAC" or whatever. Did they remove this options or what?

The option has not been removed. What
    b do
you see in the contextual menu? What are your import prefs set to? If, for example, your import prefs are set to MP3 then you will see "convert to MP3" in the menu, not AAC.
Check your import prefs (iTunes Prefs > Advanced > Importing; for pre-iTunes 6 iTunes Prefs > Importing) first and make sure you've got them set the way you want them to be.

  • Can i convert songs bought in music store to mp3

i will convert the music i bought in music store to mp3 so i can burn it to a disk and play it on my radio

Burn the songs to an audio CD, then re-import them into iTunes as mp3s.
You can't convert protected songs files into mp3 format "on the fly" within iTunes, but you can get them to mp3 format by burning as an audio CD.

  • Can't convert song files

    Hi,
My Windows crashed and I'm currently running on Linux, which doesn't support iTunes and won't play the songs I previously downloaded from iTunes. I've tried every sound converter accepted by Linux and none can convert the songs from the m4p to mp3 files. They keep creating new files called mp3 that are actually empty. I've looked at every Linux forum board, asked iTunes support repeatedly and I'm getting nowhere.
    Can anyone offer any advice?

    I have another potential solution:
    Songbird
It's essentially a Media Play built on the Mozilla[Firefox] engine, which means it can run on Windows/Linux/Mac. It supports the iPod and AAC files as well as Windows Fairplay DRM and pretty much any media file you want to throw at it. Since its built off Firefox you can get add ons for it [called feathers], to get even more functionality out of it. Plus it's simple and pretty, like iTunes. And its free.
Only problem: the official release is still in Beta [0.7], but they do have a 1.0 Release Candidate 2 release as well, and they are progressing through releases VERY quickly, and they have pretty good support unlike iTunes sometimes idiot staff.
To check out the 0.7 Beta Release:
    http://getsongbird.com/
    For 1.0 Release Candidate 2:

No, I don't work for them. I am getting feed up with iTunes lately either losing my library partially or fully, and the update to 8.0.1.11 corrupting the iTunes.xml file, and again, losing half my library. Re-importing and rating ALL of my songs (23,167 [148.27 GB]) *****. Hard.
Check it out. It looks almost dead on iTunes, and they have some pretty good add-ons. I'm upping from 0.7 to RC1 after I post this. Let me know how it works for you, because I haven't used it on Linux. Plus, I might be able to help with some other solution if this doesn't do the trick.
Remember though, if you have problems, try to report it to the staff, because they need that info to fix it. They have a feedback section for problems.

  • Can you convert songs u download to mp3

songs that you download from itunes, can they be converted to mp3 so I can burn an mp3 disc.

How to convert iTunes AAC to MP3 (DRM-free) for utilizing AAC music widely
For unportected iTunes AAC files, iTunes can convert them to MP3 for free. And for protected AAC music, you can burn the album to a disk, then re-import the music off of the burned disc. Obviously this could be a pain if you have a lot of protected music but free minus the cost of the discs.
iTunes > preferences > general. click on import settings, then import using and select MP3 encoder. below, select the desired bit rate.
next, highlight the AAC files in iTunes and choose create MP3 version from the advanced menu.

  • I can't convert songs into ringtones

Yesterday, I had 50 songs that I could convert now I have none. I tried changing Rockstar by Nickelback and Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. Yesterday, they were both convertable, now there not.

At times on my system the bells disappear. Not the bell column, but the bells that show up in the column indicating that they are ring-tone capable. All I've had to do (even though the bell is not showing up) is right click on one of the songs that I KNOW is ok'd for ring-tones, scroll down to "Create Ringtone" and then iTunes brings up the ringtone creator at the bottom of iTunes. So give that right click a try and see if it helps.
By the way, you do know don't you that you must purchase the song first, then pay an additional $.99 to make it a ringtone right?

  • Can't convert AIFF to MP3

Can’t convert songs in iTunes. I have iTunes 7.02. I’ve followed the process as detailed in iTunes help as well as in a “missing manuals” book.
Here’s what I’ve done to try to change a song from AIFF file to MP3:
    1) In iTunes, chose iTunes > Preferences
    2) Chose “Advanced”
    3) Chose “Importing”
    4) Was told to use “Pop-Up” menu to select between: AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3, or WAV;
    However, there is no “Pop-Up” menu........never has been;
    So,
I used the “Import Using” window and scrolled to select MP3
    5) Clicked “OK”
    6) In an iTunes Playlist, clicked once to highlight the song I wanted to convert from AIFF to MP3
    7) Went back to Preferences > Advanced to try and click “Convert Selection to MP3”............. But,
there is no such command in the Advanced, Importing window.
Presumably, after you do that (which I couldn’t) iTunes automatically converts selected song to the format I’ve chosen, plays it through while converting, resulting in a duplicate song, only in MP3 format. The original AIFF song is supposed to remain in the Library.
So why aren’t things happening they way iTunes Help and the book I’m using said they would?
Finally, after changing things in iTunes Preferences, how do I leave "Preferences": for example: should it always be left: Import Using: AIFF Encoder and Setting: Automatic?
My iMac specs should be listed below.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

    hi nemateoz,
    here are some clarifications;
"However, there is no “Pop-Up” menu."
    correct, its a drop-down list.
"Went back to Preferences > Advanced to try and click “Convert Selection to MP3"."
no, this option isn't located in the Advanced tab from the iTunes preferences but in the menu "Advanced" of iTunes (as Files, Edit, etc). This may be confusing thaugh.
"The original AIFF song is supposed to remain in the Library."
Correct; files will be duplicated. if you want to sort them easily, right click on any colum title of your library view and select "Genre". this will add a colum showing the file genre (aiff, mp3, etc) so you can sort them.
"So why aren’t things happening they way iTunes Help and the book I’m using said they would?"
i don'T know where you got your information. maybe you just got confused between advanced menu and advanced tab in preferences.
"Finally, after changing things in iTunes Preferences, how do I leave "Preferences": for example: should it always be left: Import Using: AIFF Encoder and Setting: Automatic?"
depends on what you would like. usually, people will convert aiff files to mp3 or m4a directly from CD; i.e. after inserting a CD, by just clicking "Import CD" button on the lower right corner will import/convert files based on your itunes preferences settings.

  • How can I convert itunes songs to ringtones

I have just purchased on iphone 4.  I have many songs that I bought through the iTunes store that I wish to convert to ringtones.  I have tried several apps such as Ringtone Maker, Myxer, etc., and I get to the point where it just fails.  Either I can't copy the file to my desktop, or the songs won't sync to my phone or something else happens.  I watched ste-p-by-step videos of one app and when it gets to the next step, it won't allow me to do that option so I can't "finish".  Then on another, the text instructions don't give me an option that shows in the list.  Does anyone know of an app that works to convert these already-purchased songs, or some way that I can use my songs to convert them to ringtones.  I called Apple Support and they were no help since they don't support any of the "other-owned" apps on the iPhone.  I paid a lot of money for this phone, and even more in all the iTunes I purchased, there's got to be something I can do.  I love this phone, but the small choice of silly ringtones is the only thing I don't like about it.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • ITunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs? format

iTunes 11 has converted some songs to Quicktime movie format. How can I convert them back to MPEGs?

I didn't mess with the iTunes Media folder previously, so I don't think that was the cause. Anyway, I manually fixed most of the songs, but I still can't figure out how to fix the movies that became listed as songs.
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like when I click on "Get Info" for one of the movies (which has ended up in the music section on iTunes):
There is no option to change the media kind to "movie" or "video" even though it is a movie and it still plays as a movie if I press play.

  • How can I convert .m4p songs to .wav ?

how can I convert *.m4p songs in ITunes  to *.wav songs ?

the only way i have found is thru converter software. i use a program called "avs" it was $30 i believe, maybe $39. but it was the only way i found for me to convert itunes songs to a .wav file so my kids could put those songs on a "sansa" mp3 player.

  • Can I convert the file format of purchased songs?

I'm trying to put together a movie for my kids with a song I purchased through iTunes but it is a mp4 file - which will not work in my movie-making software! Can I convert the song to mp3??!! Help!!!

Yes, but it's a 2 step process. First, burn the mp4 file to a cd, like one you can play in a regular player. Then import the cd back as an mp3 file (you set this up under preferences, import tab). I do this to all of my iTunes songs because they are worthless unless I can play them on devices other than my iPod.
