Can I copy an existing LR catalog to a new disc?

I have installed a new primary disc (C: in Windows 7 Pro) and re-downloaded LR4.2 release candidate. Can I simply copy the existing LR catalog (which I have on old disk, still accessible via USB, or from several backup copies) to the new disc and LR will work as it did previously. The drive letters of the locations of the actual image files (on other internal drives) have now changed so how do I tell LR to now use the new drive letter locations. Thanks for help.

Yes, you can do a copy and the catalog should work.
If the drive letters have changed where your photos are stored, the easiest way to get everything to work is to go into Windows and change the drive letters to what they used to be, so that your photos are now on the same drive as before. Alternatively, you can reconnect the folders (right-click on the top level folder and select "Find Missing Folder")

Click here and pick the option which best fits your situation. Rented movies can only be moved through the iPod and will not play on the new computer if any other method is used.

  • Movie 11 can not copy everything and put it into a new project in imovie 9 it works fine

movie 11 can not copy everything and put it into a new project
in imovie 9 it works fine and there i cant copy 5 different project into new project
but in imovie 11 i only can copy project with option dubler project?

AppleMan  Thanks very much for the information, however I could't make it work. I followed your instructions to the letter, in fact I tried every which-way. I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents"  but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. I also found that the file size was reduced to only a few Kb.  Any further step-by-step instructions would be appreciated as I am obviously doing something wrong.  Babowa  It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. Funnily enough an MOV file I converted to Mp4 was not greyed out and I was able to import it.... an exercise I am not keen on because of resolution loss during conversion

  • Switching from PC to Mac - can I copy over my LR catalogs?

I've been working with Lightroom on a PC for years and would like to make the switch to a Mac.  Can I copy my LR catalogs to my new Mac and still be able to have access to each photo's history?  I would prefer to do this with the Mac OS rather than use bootcamp to run Windows on the Mac.  Also, do I need to purchase LR again, or can I use my current serial number to download a Mac version?

You can copy the images and catalog to the Mac. Everything in the catalog will be available when you copy it. To open the copied catalog on the Mac you should just double click on the lrcat file.
You serial number is godd for Mac and PC, therefore no need to but a new copy.

  • Can I associate an existing TM backup with a new replacement hard drive?

Hi all. I have a Mac Pro and just added a new, larger and faster hard drive as my primary system drive. I used Super Duper to clone the original over to the new. All is working fine on that front.
My question is as follows. I was using a Time Capsule to back up the original hard drive. Time Machine sees my new hard drive as an entirely new backup set (for which there is not sufficient space on the TC), rather than a continuation/clone of my existing backup set. Is there a way to tell Time Machine that it should use the existing sparsebundle as the base from which to make further incremental backups, rather than starting from scratch? I would strongly prefer this over deleting the existing sparsebundle and losing the month or two of existing incremental backups, should I need to pluck some file from the past.
I found a tip on the Mac OS X Hints web site that involved using Terminal to force Time Machine to use my new drive's UUID, but I simply couldn't get it to work. Any suggestions out there? It seems like it shouldn't be as rare a need as my extensive searches seem to suggest.
    Thanks!!!

    Hello Barty,
is your library referenced or managed?
If your Aperture Library is managed, then you can simply copy it to your new external drive using the Finder. Make a backup of your old library and convince yourself that the backup is working.
If your library is referenced, then use Aperture to relocate your master image files to the external drive (select all images, then File -> Relocate Master), then copy your Library to the external drive using the Finder.
To point Aperture to the new library location, double click the new Aperture Library to open Aperture with it. Test it thoroughly, before you delete the original library.
You might consider only to relocate the master images to your external drive and to leave the then much smaller Aperure Library on your system drive. That way Aperture will work faster, and you will be able to browse and share your images, even when our external drive is not connected.

If the above option is too much work you may want to look into iRip which you can find information on it at http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/ there are other software out there starting from free and going up in price, but iRip has a free demo to recover 100 tracks.

  • HELP! My hard drive crashed, can I copy my iTunes library files to a new PC

My hard drive crashed, but I attached it as a slave drive using an older PC and I can see all of my files but I can't start any programs (iTunes) from this slave drive.
How can I copy iTunes music files and library to a removable drive, and then use that drive to restore it all in iTunes on another PC? I would like to keep my playlists too.
I have everything I want on my iPod too, can I just copy everything from my iPod to my new PC? Which is easier?

I have everything I want on my iPod too, can I just copy everything from my iPod to my new PC? Which is easier?
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • How can I copy an existing project?

I am using RoboHelp 9 on a virtual server.
I copied the entire folder of original project.
Named New Folder the name of 2nd project.
Can;t find copied project when I view open projects in robohelp.
I am very new to this but I desparately need to copy my original project asap as of next week, there will be two versions of the product and I will need to keep the two projects separate.
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi there
    You're on the right track.
Copy the folder to a new location.
From RoboHelp, click File > Open and navigate to the new location.
Open the ProjectName.xpj file you should find there.
After you open the project, click File > Rename Project and give it a new name.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Existing IPod and new PC - How can I copy the data on my IPod onto new PC

I have hundreds of songs and photos on my IPod Touch, but the PC that I used to load them from has "died" and I cannot get access the Library's that I created on the new PC (using Vista).
As most of the songs were copied from CD's (some of which I don't have anymore), can someone advise how to "copy: or synchronize what I have on the IPOd with my new PC?
    Should I create new "lists"?
What will happen if I download some songs / albums and try to synchronize them onto my IPod?

i used something called Senuti, its free to download
    http://www.download.com/Senuti/3000-2170_4-10458457.html
when you plug you ipoid in your computer, make sure that iTunes is not set up to sync it automatically.
then connect your ipod up to your computer and run the Senuti programme

  • How can I use an existing iTunes library with a new iTunes account

My daughter is going to college, and wants to untangle herself from the family iTunes account. Right now, we have three iPods with libraries on three computers, all using my iTunes account - and have had no problems.
She has signed up for a new account, but her previously purchased songs (on my account) won't play on her computer (new computer, iTunes is currently almost empty library), because it is authorized to HER iTunes account.
What is the best way to import her iTunes library that was created using my account onto her new computer? (Old library is on a PC, she now has an iBook, purchased used on eBay.) Is there any way to get these songs to play using her new account info? Can I maybe copy them somewhere without the metadata and then move them into her library? I realize that would lose ratings and other info, but would it get rid of the block? I'm not trying to do anything dishonest - these are personal iPods, personal computers, all within one family, we've paid for all music on them.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!
(I posted this in the iTouch discussion, and then thought it wuold be better answered over here.)

Then can her computer be authorized to both accounts?
Absolutely. You can authorize any given computer to up to five iTunes Store accounts.
If purchases are made on her account, to a computer authorized to my account, can I put those songs on my iPod?
If you connect your iPod to her computer, yes. Tracks download only to the computer from which they're purchased, regardless of which iTunes Store account is used for the purchase. Or you could copy the tracks from her computer to yours and then authorize your computer to her iTunes Store account. But that's sort of defeating the original purpose, it would seem to me.
is it better to buy music through Amazon downloads and/or actually purchasing CDs to avoid the security features iTunes puts on its music?
That's certainly an option. If it's an entire album I want, I buy CDs. That way I can import them at the quality I want and to whichever of my systems I want. Amazon or one of the other download stores that offer tracks as MP3 are also an option, though for me download stores are best when you just want a couple of tracks off a given CD.

  • Can I copy music on an iPod to a "new" computer?

I have a new computer and would like to copy the current music on my iPod to the new computer. Music was originally loaded from the old computer.
Is there a way to transfer the files FROM the iPod to the new COMPUTER using iTunes? (iPod --> computer)
If not, is there another way to do it? Many thanks,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you still can access your old computer, you may try:
    Copy songs over a network
Use the iPod to move music to a new computer
If not, then check this: MacMuse, "Computer Crashed" #4, 11:49pm Feb 7, 2005 CDT

  • Can I import an existing topic page into a new topic page?

I'm working in RH HTML 9 and am working on a project where there will be at least 2 versions of help documentation. One version for basic functionality, to be used by a novice user and another for advanced functionality, to be used by a advanced user. The basic functionality needs to viewable by both the novice and the advanced users with the advanced user being able to find help on a few more windows/fields/options. The programmer asked if an existing topic can be imported to another topic. I am already using conditional tags to exclude certain topic from the novice user version. Another way I could do this is to provide a link from the advanced user page to the novice user page.
    Thank you,
    dpeterson8022

Thank you Rick. Another question, if you have time-In my case the topic I am putting in the iframe is fairly lengthy, so I don't see any advantage to the iframe over just cutting and pasting the text. Is there a way an iframe can open in another browser window? In the alternative, I think I'll just use links so the advanced user can link to the novice user help topic, for the shared functionality.
    Thanks again,

  • How can I connect my existing firewire drives to the "new" Macbook pro

I'm thinking about getting a new Macbook Pro, to take on the road.
I already have four external drives with firewire and USB 2.0 ports.
After I looked at the new machine I noticed it only had USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt ports.
I dont see any Firewire to Thunderbolt technology out there nor do I see any  USB3.0 to anything technology. How can I connect my drives to the new system?

You can use the USB3 connections for USB2.  That's downward compatible.  Just runs at USB2 speed.
Just this week apple announced a couple of TB adapters, TB-to-ethernet and TB-to-firewire.  But the FW adapter is not at the apple store as yet (at least at the time I am posting this).
