Can I copy messages from my Time Machine ~/Library/Mail/V2 to Macbook?

Hi, I wonder if I can copy my old messeges from time machine to my new mailbox via ~/Library/Mail/V2 . Maybe I am doing something wrong but all the messages i have copied are not showing in the mail.app and I do not know how to index them.
Thank you.

Not likely.. the files from the card are loaded into the computer via iphoto I guess.. they are saved in a different format.. you cannot copy those files back to the camera card. But you should still have a backup of the photos .. in TM which is the backup of the iphoto library.
Almost nobody I have heard from will save the original files in raw format. To do that you would need to open the card via Finder and copy the raw files to a folder on the computer which you then backup by TM?? Is that how you have done it??
Tell us more info but most likely you need help from folk in iphoto section or aperture or whatever software you use.
I can help you to recover stuff on your hard disk to recover.. but not on SD card unless you actually included it in your backup which would be most unusual.

The correct method of restoring photos from Time Machine is to restore the entire library.
The way that TM backs up files makes nearly impossible to go into the backup via the Finder and recover individual files. So you will have to restore a library that contains the photos you need being sure to select the option to keep both versions.
Then open the restored library and export those photos you need.  Open your original library and import those photos.  After that you can delete the recently restored library.

How can i copy files from one external hard drive to another using macbook pro with retina display?

That's odd - if you open Disk Utility (Applications->Utilities) and select the disk(s), how are they formatted? If you're only going to be used with your Mac, they should be formatted as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

OS X can only restore data to the drive where Time Machine backed up files from.
If you want to restore files from the Time Machine backup onto an external drive, your only option is to access to the Time Machine drive manually (open a Finder window and choose your Time Machine drive in the Finder sidebar), navigate through its folders and copy the files you want to the external drive

    Hi richcloke,
Happy Thanksgiving!  When you get your new Macbook Air, you can use Migration Assistant to transfer your user account and data from your current computer.  Here's how:
OS X Yosemite: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18870
OS X Yosemite: Transfer your info from a computer or storage device
Transfer info from a Time Machine backup or other storage device
Transfer information from another disk on your Mac, a disk connected to your Mac, a disk on the same network, or another Mac (with OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion or earlier) connected to your Mac using a Thunderbolt cable.
If you’re using a Thunderbolt cable, connect the cable to the computers, hold down the T key while restarting the Mac that has the info to transfer, then follow the steps below on your other Mac.
Open Migration Assistant, click Continue, then follow the onscreen instructions to transfer info from a Time Machine backup or other disk.
Select the disk, then select what to transfer.
    Apps: Select the Applications checkbox.
Incompatible apps or apps with newer versions already installed may not be transferred or may not be usable.
Computer settings: Select the Computer & Network Settings checkbox.
Your desktop picture, network settings, and more will be transferred.
To begin the transfer, click Continue.
    Enjoy your new Mac!

  • Can i copy everything over to time machine then do a clean install of lepord and still have full acess to old files?

I want to start fresh, but still have everything from the current hard drive at my fingertips. Is time machine the man for the job?
And will it still work if i copy everything over using time machine but then upgrade to snowlepord? or will it not reconize it?

Well, I for one don't trust Time Machine, I prefer to have a bootable clone of what I have now & make sure it works before doing anything.

Use the Migration Assistant to migrate from the backup instead of restoring the whole system; it will appear when the MacBook Pro is started up for the first time.

  • HT4927 How do I restore my iPhoto library from a time machine back up of a macbook pro to an iMac?

My Macbook Pro is in a coma, but luckily I  backed up on the 20th May. I managed to get my itunes library back on my new iMac; but cannot figure out how to do the same with iPhoto. Any ideas out there?
    Thanks in advance!

Again - this is not the way to do this and generally does not work - you must use TimeMachine as designed - instructions link again  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
    Note especially
Restoring data from Time Machine backups
With Time Machine you can go "back in time" to restore files, versions of files, or your entire system. Make sure your backup drive is connected and mounted (if not, Time Machine will alert you that "Your Time Machine backup disk can't be found."
If prompted, enter an administrator name and password to proceed with the restore.
    Restoring specific files or folders
Choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine menu and the restore interface appears. You can literally see your windows as they appeared "back in time."
You can use the timeline on the right side of the window to reach a certain point back in time (the timeline shows the times of all backups on your backup drive). If you don’t know exactly when you deleted or changed a file, you can use the back arrow to let Time Machine automatically travel through time to show you when that folder last changed.
Note: Dates in pink indicate the data resides on your Time Machine backup device. Dates in white indicate the data resides on your Mac. In OS X Mountain Lion and Lion, portable Macs have the feature of local snapshots. See thisarticle for details.
You can also perform a Spotlight search in the Time Machine Finder Window search field to find a file. Simply type the Spotlight search field and use the back arrow to have Time Machine search through your backups to find what you are looking for.
Before you restore a file, you can also use Quick Look to preview a file to make sure its the one you want. Highlight the file and press the Space Bar to bring up a quick look.
To restore, select the file/folder and click the "Restore" button. The file will automatically be copied to the desktop or appropriate folder.  If the file you are restoring has another file in the same location with the same name, you will be prompted to choose which file to keep or keep both.
Restoring your entire system from a backup
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Recovery system (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility.
Note: If "You can't restore this backup because it was created by a different model of Mac" appears when restoring a backup that was made on a different Mac, follow the onscreen instructions.
If you are restoring a backup made by one Mac to a completely different Mac
Important: If the backup you are about to restore is from a completely different Mac, use the Migration Assistant to transfer data from the backup, as described in the next section.
Migrating a Time Machine backup to a new Mac
When you buy a new Mac, you can transfer all of your applications, files, settings, and other information from a Time Machine backup you've already made.
You will be asked if you want to transfer files when you start up your new Mac for the first time. Or, you can use theMigration Assistant (located in Applications/Utilities).
After Migration Assistant completes the transfer and you select your existing Time Machine backup drive, you will be prompted with "Inherit Backup History". Once selected you will be able to continue to use your existing Time Machine backup on your new Mac.

  • How to Copy Files from Corrupt Time Machine Disk

Following a series of power outages, my TM disk became corrupted. When I tried to repair with disk utility, I got the message: Unable to repair, copy as many files as you can and then reformat the disk.
My question: Is there any way to capture all/part of my TM backups (they contain a history going back many months that I'd prefer not to lose)? Though I can dig in and get individual files, when trying for anything larger (like the series of backups), they are unable to copy with the files/folders being locked/read only.
Any help would be appreciated. I'll move to a 2 drive backup system after this!
    Thanks

TM performs a backup in a rather unusual manner. An initial backup stores all the files in a disc image file. It then creates a special type of alias for each file. When you look through a TM backup you are looking at the aliases, not the files themselves.
If the drive's directory is the only thing corrupted and Disk Utility cannot repair it, then I suggest trying Disk Warrior that can repair many directory problems that Disk Utility cannot.
Otherwise, you will need to go through the backup with the TM application and attempt to restore the good files to another hard drive. Also,
See User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.

  • I have reinstalled my OS without time machine (using the disc). I want to restore some pictures in the iPhotos which are already in the time machine i was using previously. How can I restore iPhoto from previous time machine?

My mac book was incredibly slow. When I went to Mac store, they asked me to reinstall the OS with CD and not with the time machine. I reinstalled the operating system. But when I opened the applications, all those started as fresh applications as usual. I have the backup of all other data in another hard disc. But unfortunately, I forgot to copy the photos before reinstallation. I have those photos in my time machine back up. But when I opened time machine, it started like a fresh (very new) time machine and it started backing up my present OS (the reinstalled one). I cannot open the previous time machine, which is in the same hard drive. I wish to open the previous time machine to get the photos which are backed up previuosly. When opened the time machine disc (manually by clicking the icon), i can see all the thigs which I had previously in my macbook. But unfortunately, i cannot access those through time machine! Can anybody help me please?

  • My new macbook pro retina recognizes, but can't transfer data from the Time Machine Volume

I back up my old 2008 MacBook Pro to a Time Machine volume sitting on a very new 2 TB drive that is connected to a Time capsule via USB. I got that new drive from OtherWorld Computing about 2 months ago.
I just received a brand new 2012 MBP (retina).
Pondini's page on setting up a new mac says that it's easiest just to transfer everything over the first itme you start up the new machine. (ref: http://pondini.org/OSX/Setup.html)
So, I took my new 2012 MBP, plugged it into the Time Capsule directly with ethernet (I have the Thunderbolt-to-USB connector).
    Then turn it on.
The 3rd page into the startup sequence gives me a choice to "Transfer Information to this Mac". It offers 4 options
    "From Another Mac"
    "From a Windows PC"
    "From Another Disk"
    "Not Now"
    I chose "From Another Disk"
Then it offers "Select the Source"
The sources are 4 blue icons. 2 of them are backups of other machines, ones that sit on the Time Capsule's internal drive. 1 is a small "media storage" space I saved on the internal drive of the Time Capsule.
The important one is "Macbook Pro backup ("StefanTimeCapsule")
This is the one physically parked in the external USB drive.
So.... I select it. It asks me to log on with user ID and password, and then says an endless "Connecting" message
It never gets to the next menu.
If I arrow "back" in the startup window sequence to the "Select the Source" windo, the 4 blue volumes are again displayed, with the word "Connecting" next to the backup I want, strongly suggesting that the "connection" is never fully established.
Just for fun I plugged that external USB drive directly into the USB port of the new Retina MBP, but it was not recognized at all.
    I tried different ethernet cables.
At this point my thoughts are perhaps
    (a) I need a powered USB hub
    (b) I need to somehow have Apple service the Time Capsule (but for what? I don't know)
I could potentially just transfer from the Old 2008 Macbook Pro Directly, but it seems to me problematic not to be able to access the primary backup.
    Any ideas out there?

A picture of a screen that suggests my new MBP Retina never connects to the "Macbook Pro backup ("StefanTimeCapsule")
This is the one that has the files for the backups procured by the Time Machine program. But it can't "connect"-- You 'll see int he sideways pic (sorry!) that the options STILL says "connecting"
Do i have to make these Time Machines more open to connection?
