  • I am trying to copy a burned cd to my macbook pro, but i can not

I am trying to copy a burned cd to my macbook pro so that i can burn my on cd. Does anyone have any advice.

You can use Disk Utility as a way to create an image of the disc to then save to your mac so you can insert another disc into the drive and burn that image to the disc.  There are many ways to do this but this site has a pretty good description on how to do this.  This is a pretty straight forward way that I use constantly to copy discs.

  • Once iDVD is burned, can I copy it?

I have made a movie with imovie, exported it to iDVD and burned it onto a DVD. Works great! I cleaned up my computer and deleted the file in imovie and iDVD containing my movie. I have inserted my movie, play well however I want to make changes to my original movie. How can I copy it, place it in imovie or iDVD to work with it? Must I burn it? If so, how do I save it to my hard drive? Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Can't copy files to desktop after mounting CD

I'm having a weird problem - when i insert a cd, i can't copy any files to my desktop. my internal hd is partitioned into 2 drives - 1 containing the system & 1 that only contains media. once i insert the disc, i cant copy any files to the system disk - not from the cd to the desktop or from the "media" partition to the desktop.
basically, everything is fine until i insert the cd - then i'm not able to copy anything to my desktop. the issue remains after i eject the disc - i'm forced to logout & bak in to resolve it. the cd is a disc I burned not very long ago - i need to get the files off of the disc, so i'm in a major bind.
please let me know if you know why this would be happening or how to resolve it. i tried repairing permissions & running disc utility.
    thanks!

I just had a client with the same trouble - she has a lot of files on DVD-R, burned in a mix of UDF and HFS+. Today she called me up saying that she couldn't copy the files from the disc. I took control of her machine with ARD and found that dragging the files from the disk to any other place, be it Desktop, Home or even another volume, the cursor changed into a white circle with a slash through it. I was able to open each document and save as a new document elsewhere - so I know the files are good. The strange thing is that the same thing is appearing on her old machine (a dual G4 running 10.4.9) as her new machine (MacPro quad with 10.4.10). I had her download and re-apply the 10.4.10 combo update and some of the problems were fixed. Some. Then 10 minutes later the problem reasserted itself. Strange errors popped up in the Console to do with disk arbitration and the following "KernelEventAgent[29]: tid 00000000 received unknown event (12)". What the **** is going on here?

  • Can I Create The Recovery Disk(s) From The Recovery Partition? Can I Copy The Partition?

I searched the forums to find an answer to this question, but was unable to find one. It seems to me that it might be useful info for others trying to create Recovery CD/DVDs from a failed hard drive that still has an accessible Recovery Partition so hopefully we can figure out a solution. :-)
I have a Pavilion dv9408ca (Vista Home) with a hard drive that won't boot. I removed the hard drive and was able to read it on another system. I was also able to to create a Virtual Machine and run it so I recovered all the important data. I installed it in an external drive case and tried to boot from it but I wasn't able to access the Recovery Partition (F11 option didn't show and didn't work), and Windows wouldn't load.
It's possible that the controller is the problem so I don't want to buy another hard drive yet. I would like to format the original hard drive and create a 'factory' system but I don't have Recovery CD/DVDs. I cannot create the Recovery CD/DVDs using the Virutal Machine (I presume it's because it's not running on an HP).
The dv9408ca can boot form the DVD drive (ran UBCD, etc. and they booted fine).
Can I copy the Recovery Partition and make a bootable set of CD/DVDs by using some other program or copying the files/folders? I have CD/DVD burning software (Nero) that can create bootable CD/DVDs. Or can I use the Virtual Machine to run a program that will do this without using the HP Recovery Manager software in Windows?
Or... Can I create a set of Recovery CDs from another Pavilion Notebook (different model but same Vista OS) and use those to format/recover the dv9408ca system?
Thank you for your help with this problem.

This is only option which might work for you provided the product number of other laptop matches with your existing system Else you can order a set of recovery disk for your Notebook(dv9408ca) from here for a nominal charge.

What software would I need to copy and burn DVD's

Copy what kind/type of DVDs?  For non-copy protected DVDs you can use Disk Utility (in the Applications folder) to make a disk image of the DVD disk and then burn it back to a disk.

  • How can I copy my slideshow to a dvd?

How can I copy my slideshow on a dvd?

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • I can not copy the DVDs that I made with iDVD

I have a strange problem: I can not copy from a DVD that I made with iDVD (my footage, nothing with copyright). When I try to make a copy from the first DVD that I burned I receive the message that i do not have enough privieges. I checked the "Get information" tabs and I see at the end "Only read" (not copy). This was the 1st dvd that I burned with my new G4 with superdrive.
Any idea? Thanks for the help in advance

You don't have enough room for all of that. Run a disk repair and think about an external HD.

  • Mac OS X can not copy files...?

I am very new to Mac OS X and I found it strange that I can not copy files from my hard drive (docs, spreadsheets) to a blank CD-ROM disk. I called the local Apple store and they said I have to buy a third party application to copy(burn) files to CD-ROM disks. I am not talking about copying copyrighted files, just plain old Word and Excel docs. Does anyone know if this is true? I have to get a separate application to do this? Thanks, Tony.

You can certainly copy files to to a blank CD without extra programs. But once there is data on the disc, it becomes much more complicated to add data at a later date.
Windows, however, had a proprietary CD filesystem that let you use the CD like a floppy disc, where you could add and "erase" files randomly.
You can buy an inexpensive program called BurnAgain that does something similar on the Mac.
    http://freeridecoding.com/burnagaindvd/
Frankly, though, I think CDs make bad floppy discs. There is much more chance for data corruption when they are re-written.
I'd recommend an inexpensive USB Thumbdrive (Flashdrive). They come in all sizes and really do work like a giant floppy disk -- only much faster. They are dirt cheap. You can find one the capacity of a CD for about $10 or less. DVD-size flashdrives are now under $40 some places.
The easy way to burn data (once) to a CD or DVD is to create a Burn Folder. Hold down the CTL key and click once on your desktop. You'll get a pop-up menu with a choice to create a New Burn Folder. Name the Folder what you want the Disc to be named. Then open the folder and drag the files or folders you want to Burn onto the burn folder. It will actually create links (aliases or shortcuts in Windows terms) to those items. Click on the burn button at the top of the folder and it will ask for you to insert a blank CD or DVD.
You can discard the burn folder if you are through with it, because it just contains alias (shortcuts). But I must warn you that if you navigate into the subfolders of those shortcuts, you will be dealing with your actual files. So please, don't delete anything inside a folder inside a burn folder -- those are your real files!

  • Copying previously burned DVDs

I can copy previously burned DVD's on my Mac mini through disk utilities, but my mother-in-law can't on her new iMac flat screen. Is there another way to copy them on her iMac? Is there another program she needs to use?

If your MIL has a +"new iMac"+ then you posted in the wrong discussion area. All new iMacs are Intel based.

You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by going to 'My Settings' which is located in the column on the right under your name, and filling in the information asked for.
    Thank you
You will need to re-post concerns over in the Using DVDs and CDs with your Intel-based iMac Forums where the Intel users hang out.

Can I copy a published iweb site to a  DVD

Publish to a folder and burn that folder to a DVD.
The burn command is in the Finder's File menu.
Or right-click the folder and choose the command from the menu.
Or create a burn folder and drag the files there. Then click the burn button.
