Can I create a global paragraph/character catalog?
Is there a way to create a global style catalog in FrameMaker so that, when I modify a character or paragraph style in one document I can save those changes back to the catalog so they are available for my other documents?
I know that I can create a new document using another document as a template, and I know that I can select a single document as my base document or "template" and manually add the style changes to its catalog, but this presents two problems:
1- I need to manually make the changes in my template document after I make them in my new document.
2- I need to manually import the update styles into existing documentation.
both of these actions require manual effort and inevitably lead to out of sync catalogs.
Does anybody know of a way to create a global catalog to which I can save style changes?
Thanks for the replies, but there seems to be a lot of manual effort involved in all of the suggestions above which is what I'm trying to avoid.
I know how to import formats as I stated in my original posting. My question is whether there is a way to more easily manage the process with a global catalog of some kind.
I am new in my current position and there are no standard document templates so I am creating them as I go. It being very difficult (nearly impossible) to anticipate every possible formatting choice, I am creating paragraph and character tags as I go. When I see these tags set against each other in new ways, I tweak them. there is currently no good way to send those tweaks back to a global template to make them present in my existing documents. It requires the manual efforts described in my original post and in subsequent replies. This leads very quickly to documents being out of sync with the new standard.
I would love to know if anyone else has ideas on this that do not require a lot of manual effort. I'd prefer to spend that effort on document creation rather than tag management.
Thanks!

How can i create a Global Temporary Table inside a Stored Procedure....
Hi...
I need to create a Global Temporary Table inside a Stored
Procedure....
I have no idea how to do that....
Please....if u can send me a sample, send to me....
Thanks a lotTo create a global temporary table inside a stored procedure,
the minimal syntax would be:
CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE procedure_name
AS
BEGIN
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE table_name'
|| '(column_name NUMBER)';
END procedure_name;
As Todd stated, it would probably be better to create the global
temporary table outside of the procedure:
SQL> CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE table_name
2 (column_name NUMBER);
Table created.
You can also specify things like ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS or ON
COMMIT DELETE ROWS.
It may be that there is something else, like a PL/SQL table of
records or a cursor, that would suit your needs better. It is
difficult to guess without knowing what you want to do with it. -
Can't Create Database with SJISYEN character set
I am trying to create a new database in Oracle 10g using the SJISYEN character set. The summary page display in the Database Configuration wizard shows the following
Character Sets
Database Character Set JA16SJISYEN
National Character Set AL16UTF16
The database gets created successfully with no errors, but when I query the V$NLS_PARAMETERS view, the NLS_CHARACTERSET is reported as US7ASCII
Should I be able to create a database with the SJISYEN character set with Oracle 10g?Can you please run the following SQL statement and see what you get:
SQL>
1 select * from nls_database_parameters
2* where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET' -
I would like to create a custom step type and make it available to any (new or existing) sequence file, without having to copy/paste it every time, to avoid maintenance problems...
Hi Andre,
You need to create the custom step type in the station view rather in the sequence file view.
There's a step type button near the Users Button.
Click on this button then proceed in creating the custom step type as you would have done in the sequence file.
If you are using TS 1.0.x then the new step type will be added to the types palette.ini.
If you are using TS 2.0 then will be able generate a new group ini file to hold your custom step types.

In Pages (5.5.1) can I create multiple Paragraph Styles within one paragraph.
I need to make a table of contents for my Mater's Thesis and want to use the automatic table of contents feature. I want the first sentence of a paragraph to have a different paragraph setting than the rest of the paragraph. Is this possible?
Thanks!Nice of you to be doing this for your Mother's Thesis.
There are several issues here:
1. A Paragraph Style is what it says, the style for the paragraph
2. You can format text within a paragraph by applying a Character Style
3. Pages 5.5.1 lets you apply formatting to overall text for the T.O.C. but not parts of it and you can not retain that formatting as a Paragraph style
So in answer to your question, no.
You will need to create the T.O.C. manually and unfortunately as Pages 5.5.1 can't create bookmarks (just one of over 100 missing features) you will be unable to link the T.O.C. to the referred pages in the list.

Can you create a ToC with nested character styles?
I'm creating a technical guide document, and for ease of formatting within document creation I've used nesting character styles within the 'Body' paragraph style. I need to reference the second level headings within the ToC, but I since I can only use the 'Paragraph' styles in ToC creation - can I do this? (I'm using InDesign CC)
The document looks something like this, with the italics indicating the nesting structure and the ** indicating what needs to go in ToC.
1. Our Story (separate paragraph style, not an issue)
1.1 Random Title Goes Here ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Heading 2")**
Body text now, all over here, several paragraphs, etc. ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Body")
Subheadings - not required in ToC ("Body paragraph style," nested "Subheading")
1.2 Random Section Title goes here ("Body" paragraph style, nested "Heading 2")**
More body text, you get the gist. ("Body paragraph style, nested "Body")
Basically, I need to build my ToC with the Heading 1 and the Heading 2, but Heading 2 is nested in "Body" paragraph style.Nested styles are NOT a TOC style function, it is only available in a paragraph style. But when you choose a paragraph style to be written into your TOC based on another Para Style, most likely a headline, you can define such nested styles in this para style.
But a TOC entry can only include a complete paragraph, a single one. You can make a Para Style, let's name it TOC1 which draws the information from Headline 1, but not for headline 2.
This TOC1 can include nested styles (or GREP styles).
Another way to define chara styles automatically is via the TOC style definition. Styles there will override any styles which come from nested and GREP styles. (But this does not necessary mean, that they have no functionality any more, because ID's styles are only partially defined and leave room for other elements of a style to be used together.) -
I have certain sections where the table headings continue with letters, but not always. Can I create a paragraph style, or manipulate the numbering easily, so that I can add letters after the table # when it is necessary?

Why can I create a new folder in the catalog but it only shows up in windows not the catalog
Why can I create a new folder in the catalog but it only shows up in windows not the catalog
Not sure I understand the question but it could be because you meant to say "can't" somewhere in the sentence. anyway, just guessing here:
Try going to:
File >> Watch folders
Now you can Add new folders here that you see them in Windows. The word ADD is a button to browse for the folders and hopefully this will solve the problem you are having. -
Can Acrobat create an indexed catalog if all the pages were built in Illustrator?
My customer has a catalog which he created in CAD and saved as Illustrator EPS files with live text for us to print. Now he wants me to create an indexed catalog using Acrobat so that his customers can search anything they want within the catalog. My question is this: will the live text in the Illustrator EPS files be indexable and searchable? Or do I have to recreate all his tables in InDesign in order for the text to be indexable and searchable?
Thank you for your help,
CAartistThis isn't possible with Live Mail. Acrobat has an add-in for Outlook (which you've used), but there is no similar function for Live Mail.

Hi,
Can anyone please help me in creating the Custom Search box with below mentioned functionality
"The search box will allow up to 60 alphanumeric characters.User can input a minimum of 1 character and the system will pull back an exact match on the sequence entered"Hi Pradeep,
Find the complete JQuery AutoComplete function with along with different events in it like focus, select, open and close. You can modify this code as per your requirement.
$("#ddlSearchTextBox").autocomplete({
source: function (request, response) {
var getUrl = "<site URL>";
$.ajax({
url: getUrl,
type: "GET",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
data: {
featureClass: "P",
style: "full",
maxRows: 10
dataFilter: function (data, type) {
return data.replace(/\\'/g, "'");
success: function (data) {
response($.map(data.d, function (result) {
return {
label: result.Last_Name + ", " + result.First_Name,
value: result.id
focus: function (event, ui) {
$("#ddlSearchTextBox").val(ui.item.label);
return false;
minLength: 1,
select: function (event, ui) {
$("#ddlSearchTextBox").val(ui.item.label);
return false;
open: function () {
$("#ddlSearchTextBox").removeClass("ui-corner-all").addClass("ui-corner-top");
close: function () {
$("#ddlSearchTextBox").removeClass("ui-corner-top").addClass("ui-corner-all");
Let us know if you need any further.

Any idea?

I slightly modified your script to recatalog the backup pieces since they are note stored at the same location in PR and QA.
No luck. The error message is different but the result is the same... it keeps failing.

Why can't I define bullet paragraph in Basic Paragraph style?
I would like to set up my Basic Paragraph style so that I can quickly apply bullets to individual paragraphs - using MY preferred indents - without having to create a new style for the bullet paragraphs. I tried changing the settings of the Basic Paragraph style, with no documents open, but it doesn't seem to want to accept my choice of indents. First I selected bullets and set an indent, but then the whole paragraph defaults to bullets. When I switch the bullet setting back to "none" the only thing that it keeps is the last setting I chose for tabs. (Which simultaneously changes the default tab setting for all paragraphs.) But when I create a new doct and start a bullet paragraph, the indents always default to .25/-.25, and any tab setting LESS than .25 results in the first line indenting to the tab setting, but the rest of the paragraph indenting to .25. There seems to be no way to change the default indent for bullets without creating a new paragraph style. And usually I'm fine with that. But I thought I would like to have a quick default using the Basic Paragraph style. Am I missing something or is this just not possible?
Here is a visual/verbal screenshot to help explain:Let's see if I understand this differently from the others. You want to apply bullets manually from time to time without having to select a new style, you want to do this by pressing the bulleted list button in the Control panel, and you want settings for tabs and indents other than the default. Is that correct?
As far as I can tell there is no way currently to do this. You cannot set up the parameters for bullets unless the text cursor is active or you are defining a style, so there is no way to set up new defaults. You don't want to set up parameteres everytime you need a bullet, so, either you type the bullets manually, tab and insert an indent to here character, which is actually a lot more work, or you go ahead and set up the style. You can access the style list in the dropdown on the Control panel, or you can add a keyboard shortcut to give you quick access, or hit Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) + Enter to access Quick apply and start typing the name of the style (almost as fast as a keyboard shortcut). -
Can I create a non-Unicode database manually via create database segment
Hi
As unicode encode use more bytes than 2-bytes encode (for instance, ZHS16GBK), and XE has the limit with 4GB totally. So, can I create a non-Unicode (for instance, ZHS16GBK) database manually via create database segment? or I just could use unicode?
Thanks.
