Can I create my recovery disk on 1 of my hd's,

Hello,,I just bought a HP ENVY Phoenix 810qe 245 Desktop Pc with win 8.1 it has 3 hard drives and I want to know if it possible to create my recovery disk on 1 of my hd's,,would there be any problems If I did it this way, if something happens to my main ssd drive I would be able to use harddisk f drive to restore back easy, since there would be other files on the hd f disk would the system find the files needed?,I guess I would just need to change the boot order in bios and then it should find what it needs right??And I love win 8.1 now, took few hours to learn but I think it blows away win 7 and xp by far..makes my ol xp system look dusty...

Hi,
One of the restrictions with the Recovery Media Creator application is that it will only allow the Recovery files to be written to removable media - USB Flash Drive or DVDs.  It does not support ( and will not recognise ) fixed drives whether internal or external.
An HP document regarding the creation of Recovery Media can be found on the following link.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03481733&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N712
Note:
If you decide to create our Recovery Media on a USB Flash Drive, it must be of a type that Windows 8.1 sees as a 'Removable Disk' - not all do and there's no completely reliable method for telling which will work until they're plugged in.  For example, in the image below, the usb flash drive Dave (G) shows as a 'fixed drive' and will not work, whereas the usb flash drive 'Removable Disk (H)' will work.
Thanks to @erico  the following USB Flash Drives are known to work:
Transcend USB 3.0 16Gb  - this may not be large enough in your case.
Team Group F108 64G
PNY Turbo 3.0 - 32GB
Lexar Jumpdrive M10 Secure 64GB  USB 3.0
Patriot Rage 3.0  32GB
Best regards,

  • Can't install because it can't create a recovery disk?

I've been trying to install mountain lion but it keeps saying that it can't be installed because it can't create a recovery partition. I tried to reinstall lion from the recovery disk but it keeps giving me errors and says try reinstalling, but doesn't give the option to download a fresh copy of lion and apple has pulled the lion installer from the mac app store. What do I do?

See "what to do if the installer warns that no Recovery System can be created" in About OS X Recovery.

  • Can I Create The Recovery Disk(s) From The Recovery Partition? Can I Copy The Partition?

I searched the forums to find an answer to this question, but was unable to find one. It seems to me that it might be useful info for others trying to create Recovery CD/DVDs from a failed hard drive that still has an accessible Recovery Partition so hopefully we can figure out a solution. :-)
I have a Pavilion dv9408ca (Vista Home) with a hard drive that won't boot. I removed the hard drive and was able to read it on another system. I was also able to to create a Virtual Machine and run it so I recovered all the important data. I installed it in an external drive case and tried to boot from it but I wasn't able to access the Recovery Partition (F11 option didn't show and didn't work), and Windows wouldn't load.
It's possible that the controller is the problem so I don't want to buy another hard drive yet. I would like to format the original hard drive and create a 'factory' system but I don't have Recovery CD/DVDs. I cannot create the Recovery CD/DVDs using the Virutal Machine (I presume it's because it's not running on an HP).
The dv9408ca can boot form the DVD drive (ran UBCD, etc. and they booted fine).
Can I copy the Recovery Partition and make a bootable set of CD/DVDs by using some other program or copying the files/folders? I have CD/DVD burning software (Nero) that can create bootable CD/DVDs. Or can I use the Virtual Machine to run a program that will do this without using the HP Recovery Manager software in Windows?
Or... Can I create a set of Recovery CDs from another Pavilion Notebook (different model but same Vista OS) and use those to format/recover the dv9408ca system?
Thank you for your help with this problem.

This is only option which might work for you provided the product number of other laptop matches with your existing system Else you can order a set of recovery disk for your Notebook(dv9408ca) from here for a nominal charge.

  • Satellite L - How to create a recovery disk?

    Hey,
I deinstalled the Programm "Recovery Disc Creator" accidentally. But the Folder with the Win Vista Recovery Disc Informations are still in my Computer. Now i want you to help me in creating a Recovery Disc. My System is very unstable. So i want to re install it. I hope you can help me.

Sorry but why did you uninstall the recovery disk creator?
However, now you can’t create the recovery disk because you have uninstalled the program for creating the disk.
The only way I know is you use the HDD recovery option to reinstall your notebook. You can use this if you go to the advanced boot menu (F8 before Windows is booting), choose repair my computer and then select the Toshiba HDD recovery function.
Normally you get this message if you start your notebook at the first time:
    +Important INFORMATION+
+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+

  • I am trying to install Lion on my imac and it says it can't make a recovery disk

I am trying to install lion and receive a message saying it can't make a recovery disk.  I am using a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac.  I do have bootcamp on it, but was never able to install Windows.

What happens when Lion installs is it creates a Lion Recovery Partition at the very bottom area of the drive, this is used to Command R boot into and perform Disk Utility Repairs and reinstall Lion from Apple's servers much like a 10.6 disk will.
So when you ran the Lion installer, it couldn't create this small partiiton, either because the GUID partition table (the map of your paartitions on the drive) is borked or there is data all the way to the bottom of the drive or OS X thinks there is.
You set up the bootcamp parittion, so run that and delete the Bootcamp partition as your not using it or Windows, once it's finished reboot and try installing Lion again.
I should warn you, Lion will not run your Rosetta based software or hardware drivers for external hardware, you may have to purchase all new versions. Not only that, hardware drivers may not be available for 10.7 thus rendering your third party printers, scanners etc useless.
Before you install Lion, you should consult this web page
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
to see if your current programs will break and when to expect a new version (likely paid)
Also you shoudl check your hardware and the makers site if there is a 10.7 compatible driver/software for them.
And once you think your ready to go to Lion, get a blank external powered drive and a free/donationware copy of Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your present (non-Filevault) 10.6 boot drive to the external drive.
Later if 10.7 doesn't work for you, simply hold the option key and boot off the 10.6 clone, use Disk Utility to Erase the entire drive (the whole drive!) and reverse clone 10.6 back onto the internal drive.

  • How can I get a recovery disk for Satellite P300-1CI?

    Hi everybody,
first, sorry for my english, I'm a belgian and I speak french.
Yesterday I bought a toshiba Satellite P300-1CI, when I started, I must installed Vista home.
I would like to format my disk and reinstall my old Windows XP.
My question is : How can keep an image disk with Vista? I don't have an installation disk of Vista and don't know my registration key of it.
How can I have a recovery disk ?
    Can you help me please.
PS : Sorry for my english

    Hi mate
User manual is really interesting document and in most cases it answer all you questions ;)
Anyway, the Toshiba recovery disk should be created before you would format and install on the HDD.
You have to use the preinstalled Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator application in order to create the Recovery DVD.
    Now to you other question;
The Vista image which is preinstalled and placed on the Recovery disk (after recovery disk has been created) is activated already and you dont need to insert any keys or activate anything.

You will only know about the hard drive when you try to access it in TDM from your other computer. If you cannot boot into TDM mode or if the drive does not appear on the new computer's Desktop then it is likely bad.
What you are thinking about as a recovery disk is the Recovery HD normally created when you install Lion or later on the computer. You boot from it as follows:
    Boot Using Command+R keys:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"COMMAND" and the "R" keys together.
      3. Release the keys when the Utilities Menu appears.

  • Equium L40-14I - Can I get a recovery disk?

    Hey,
I am stuck with this laptop at the moment as when I did a virus scan about 4 weeks ago it discovered 179 virus and no end of malware threats and since that scan I can no longer boot into any area in normal Windows Vista 32 bit unless it is Safe Mode.
When my mum bought the laptop it was a display model and they did not provide a recovery disc witht the laptop. Am I able to request one or if I am not to get a disc how am I able to rectify this problem please? Also when trying to log on in normal Windows, it accepts the password then sits there happily on the "Welcome" screen and does not move any further.
    Please help
    Kind Regards
    Obviangel

    Hello
I think in this case you need a recovery disk or lets say you have to reinstall Windows due these lots of viruses.
The recovery disk is not provided with this model because you have to create such a disk yourself using the preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator. But I think not its too late for this.
What you can try is to use the HDD recovery option. You can use it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select repair my computer. On the next screen you can choose the Toshiba HDD recovery option that wipes the first partition of your notebook and you get back the factory settings. That means the preinstalled Vista from Toshiba with all drivers and tools.
After this you can try to create the recovery disk using the Toshiba recovery disk creator.
If the HDD recovery doesnt work due the viruses maybe, you can order a new one from Toshiba directly:

  • Satellite A300D - Where can I get a recovery disk?

    Hello
I'm new here and got a problem.
my daughter bought a A300D-18 PSAHCE 00C00PGR in April 09.
She told me now, she tried to create a recovery disc at once, but it failed.
Now I'm looking for a recovery disc for her vista home premium SP2.
Does anybody know, where I can get a recovery disc for her?

    Hi
I can only say check your user manual ;)
If you dont have a recovery disk you can order a new one from Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
If the preinstalled OS is still installed you can try again to create the recovery disk. I can recommend DVD-R mediums, this worked for me.

  • Can't create a recovery drive: "Some required files are missing"

    Hi guys,
Didn't have much luck in MS forums, maybe somebody here knows?
Whenever I try to create a recovery drive I find that "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows installation disc or media."
    Uh?
Is a fresh Windows 8 x64 (RTM) installation. Only thing that I can think of is it has UEFI and Secure Boot enabled.
If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

    Hey there dann,
What version of Windows 8 are you using? It appears you may need to the Window 8 disc to be able to create the recovery drive because it needs files that are not on your system. I found those part numbers for the Windows 8 recovery media for you.
    04T7196 - Win 8 64 Bit US
    04T7223 - Win 8 Pro 64 Bit US
Additional part numbers can be found here for all system parts and recovery media for you the Twist (s230u). If you contact service back they should be able to get the media sent to you. Good Luck.

  • Tecra M2 - Can I buy a recovery disk?

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Tecra M2, but without a recovery disk.
I can buy an old recovery disk for Tecra M2.
Will it be ok for my laptop, or not ?
( is each recovery disk linked with its original laptop by the serial number or something else? or will it be ok for every Tecra M2 laptop)
    Thanks

I am also a little bit skeptic you will get recovery media for this old notebook model but you can contact nearest authorized service provider and ask if they can obtain one copy for you.
I am not so sure you will get it but you can try. In worst case you can install OS using Microsoft installations CD. All drivers, tools and utilities you can find and download from Toshiba support and download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

    Hey mate,
You can get a new recovery disk from an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest so please check this!!!
Alternative you install Windows from a Microsoft disk and then you can download all drivers on the Toshiba page. Then you have factory settings back too but its more complicated as the Toshiba disk.
