calculator, fine, lock machine, great, open browser, sure, but can i point the 'folder' icon shortcut key to 'my documents' instead of 'computer' in windows explorer? would be a small kine boon ;-p

You can create keyboard shortcuts to open programs. Opening programs this way is often simpler than opening them using your mouse or other pointing device. Before you get started, you need to create a shortcut for the program to which you want to assign a keyboard shortcut. To do this, open the folder that contains the program, right-click the program's executable file, and then click Create Shortcut. For more information about creating shortcuts to programs, see Create or delete a shortcut.
Locate the shortcut to the program that you want to create a keyboard shortcut for.
Right-click the shortcut, and then click Properties.
In the Shortcut Properties dialog box, click the Shortcut tab.
Click in the Shortcut key box, press the key on your keyboard that you want to use in combination with Ctrl+Alt (keyboard shortcuts automatically start with Ctrl+Alt), and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
You can now use this keyboard shortcut to open the program.

The method you use will necessarily be somewhat dependent on the OS of the server. If Windows, what's wrong with using Windows Remote Desktop? If *nix, as explained in your several other threads swirling around this question, use a putty session to connect ... then, if needed for a GUI utility like dbca, runInstaller, etc, just set up an x-server on your local machine and enable x-11 port forwarding in your putty session.
You really are trying to make all of this much more difficult than it need be.
Hmm... so in Windows a remote seems the only solution, except the one RichardHarisson proposed if you already have a Database set up. For Unix I can promote the port forwarding method you recomended. Thank you.
Sorry I just finished my University and make my 1st internship on the Oracle DB Layer of Applications in Western Europe.
P.S.
There is no such a need but I would find it a personal good exercise in understanind these connections-administration issues under different OS to try create an API tool that creates DB on other PC of different OS once you chosen the OS of the Server.

I don't believe there is a keyboard shortcut available for that feature. But I believe if you click-select the topmost chapter, and Shift-click the bottommost chapter, it should select them all.
Other shortcuts for books can be set up in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts in the Panel Menus product area. There are no default shortcuts in that area.

I'm trying to make "ctrl-f" a shortcut key in my program.
I know I can do this as a JMenuItem by:
menuItem.setAccelerator(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_F, KeyEvent.CTRL_MASK));
However, I would rather not have it in the menu.
How would I do this without having it as a JMenuItem?

As a user I hate designs like this. How am I supposed to know what all the shortcut keys are? Using a menu item is a form of self documentation

How do you change the shortcut keys for Firefox in Welsh For Mac?

I'm using Firefox in Welsh on Mac (asking in English to hopefully get more answers), and every time I try to do the shortcut for copy (cmd+C), it hides the window (since Hide in Welsh is Cuddio, the shorcut for that is now Cmd+C). I usually forget this, and proceed with using the shortcut for copy only to anger myself when I realise that I've hidden the window.
My question is, how do you change the shortcut keys on Firefox so then I can change the Hide shortcut and give Copy the cmd+C shortcut? I'm also using OpenOffice.org in Welsh, and they are using cmd+C for copy and cmd+H for Hide.
Is there any way that I could do this myself? Its rather annoying for me, and its rather weird to use Cmd+X for Cutting text instead of copying.

This could be worth a bug. It shouldn't happen that some shortcut keys get (re)used for other actions and Cmd + C should be considered as one of them.

Is there a way to disable the shortcut key in Mail in Mountain Lion that deletes all mail in the Trash folder in all accounts: <shift><command><delete> ?
I did it once by mistake and it deleted all my trash - it is very difficult to restore when there are thousands of messages in various emaiil accounts.

While you can't (so far as I know) remove it - you can assign a different (& less likely to be used accidentally) one via System Preferences - Keyboard - Shortcuts.
Go there, create a new one (or 2) for Mail only, and give it the exact name(s) if the menu item(s) in question, capitalisation & ... included.

I would like to switch between windows (not applications) by hitting ALT and TAB (same as Windows) instead of ^F4. In the preferences, I tried to change the shortcut labelled something like "Move focus to the active (or next) window". Unfortunately, it always complains that this shortcut is already used by another operation. However I can't find which operation uses ALT+TAB ?!
How should I do ?

Interesting. I can't use the TAB key in ANY custom shortcuts. it gives an error sound (but no message) when i try. I tried it on 3 different computers. I suggest you try a different shortcut like alt+`. It's very close to alt+tab.
However I can't find which operation uses ALT+TAB ?!
How should I do ?

Can I disable the ESC key in camera raw?

When working in Photoshop in general, I've gotten into the habit of using the ESC key to get out of a tool I'm currently using, but when using Camera Raw, this has the consequence of closing the image I've been working on without saving any of the edits I've made. I've tried looking in the keyboard shortcut assignments for it, but no luck. Maybe it's a Windows-wide setting, or a per-application setting that can be set? And yes, I know I can stop hitting the ESC key, but that's not the answer I'm looking for. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Non numeric keyboard - I need the shortcut keys for Google Earth

I need the shortcut keys for Google Earth - like Page Up, Page Down etc, but the new Apple wireless keyboard hasn't got the numeric keypad.
Are there alternative shortcut keys for Page Up/Down? Or can I programme any of the Function keys to do that instead?
