Can I delete extra themes?

I'm trying to regain some space on my HD. I see that there is an NTSC and PAL version of IDVD's themes. I don't plan on using PAL format ever. What I'm wondering is can I safely delete the PAL themes and not screw up IDVD?

Honestly, I can't recommend doing that w/o ill effects on iDvd'08. Instead here's a few ways to achieve your objective of freeing up additional HD space.
You can clear video files already burned to DVD-R media, burn your iPhoto Library to DVD to clear more space , or even consider clearing languages you won't need on your system with an app like Monolingual. No problems will be created by removing unneeded language files (however it's highly recommend you avoid removing architectures on any intel mac).
Items in the /Library/Packages/ and /Library/Printers/ folders that you don't use can be deleted, and Monolingual can be run to free up more space.

How can I delete extra returns in my document?

When working in Pages I will sometimes copy and paste from the internet. It will be single spaced lines. Then I will hit 'return' to say, begin a new paragraph, and it double spaces and leaves a one line space between the previous text and the new I type. One way to approach the problem is with Find and Replace. Start by Saving your document in case anything goes wrong. Next, View > Show Invisibles, if you don't already have invisibles showing. Then Command-F to bring up the Find and Replace window.
Next, click to set your insertion cursor right at the end of the sentence before the extra space in one of your blocks of text. Hold down the shift key while you click the RightArrow twice to Select the two "New Paragraph" markers. Then, Command-C to copy them.
Set your insertion cursor in the Find field and Command-V.
Then set your insertion cursor in the Replace field and Command-B and delete one of the two characters.
Now, click Replace All.
Your extra lines should be gone.

Can't delete Extra Browser (Earth) Icon (related to NASCAR app somehow)

Hi,
I have an extra browser icon, which is trying to load/install the NASCAR app.
I have NO idea where this came from, I don't want it, I could be FIRED for having such a thing on my device. I can't get rid of it.
I do not think this is 81xx related, as a Curve user has it too. Google turned up a hit on that post, which is how I found this forum.
Anyone else see this? How did you get rid of it?

I also posted the same thing, cept I have a BB curve 8330. They have sent me 2 replacements and this thing keeps popping up. I wouldn't mind just hiding it, but since it's appearence...it tends to make a couple of my apps freeze up and the BB goes into reset mode. The techs at sprint have pulled their hair out and myself as well. The techs at sprint have called the Advanced Tech at Blackberry will no solution. I am supposed to get a call from CTMS dept of sprint to try to resolve this issue. As soon as I hear from them and hopefully get this resolved, I will post it on here. I know of 2 people on here that have the same problem. My brother also has the same BB and his appeared this weekend too. So frustrating I've thought of changing carriers!

Finding and Deleting Installed Themes - Keynote '09

I downloaded a Keynotes' theme that was packaged as an Installer package (.pkg). I installed it. The theme did not install in ~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Keynote/Themes/ like a normal custom theme. When I opened Keynote, the theme was in the Theme Chooser. However, the theme was incomplete and I want to delete it.
I found the Themes folder in the Keynote application package (Keynote.app/Contents/Resources/Themes/) but the one that I installed was not there -- at least not listed by name.
How can I delete this theme?

When I install additional Keynote themes they are, as you pointed, located in:
~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Keynote/Themes/
It's strange that the Installer package didn't install it there...
Have you tried to search via Spotlight? If you can't find it, you might consider contacting/emailing the creators of the Theme and Installer and asking them how you can uninstall the themes. Good luck.

SET SUBTYPES = TRIM (SUBTYPES);Doing RTRIM alone will not suffice coz it'll only remove Right Spaces and NOT Left ones.
I guess, in your case doing a TRIM will be more beneficial to be safe and prevent any left spaces in future.
For intermediate spaces... try this.

Extra copies of iPod for Windows - can I delete them?

I'm trying to clean up my computer (Windows XP OS), and found three versions of iPod for Windows loaded: 2006-03-23, 2006-01-10, and 2005-09-23. I have an iPod nano, and my husband has one. Can I delete all but the most current version of this software? Thanks.

You don't need any of them as the iPod updater is now built into iTunes.

I have pictures on my phone that I can not delete. There is no trashcan. These pictures are in albums and not the camera roll itself. How can I delete them?

My wife and I decided that we needed separate accounts for our two 4s phones. To do this, the data from her phone needed to be transferred out, then transferred back in under the different account. The pictures were transferred back in using Itunes. These appear as separate albums in the "photos" app. I would like to delete some (or all) the pictures in these extra albums, but there is no trashcan to put them in. I can only delete pictures in the "camera roll" itself. These pictures are taking up valuable memory and I would like to free up some space. How can I delete them?

As it relates to pictures, iTunes will only do two things: it will transfer photos from your computer to your device (if you select to Sync Photos on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings); and it will include the camera roll photos on your device in your device backup (if you back up to your computer rather than to iCloud). It does not transfer photos from your phone, only to your phone. (Transferring photo from your phone to your computer is done by importing them as expained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.)
The only area where you might lose pictures by syncing would be if you synced your phone while selecting Sync Photos on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and the photos you had previously synced to your phone from your computer were no longer on your computer. iTunes is syncing photos one-way; ensuring that the photos transferred from your computer match the photos still on your computer. If you delete the photos from your computer, then sync, the deleted photos are then removed from your phone.
This does not effect photos in the camera roll or in your photo stream, it only effects photos in the Photo Library album and albums containing photos in the Photo Library album.
The deleted photos would have been placed in the recycle bin when you originally deleted them from the computer. Nothing is put in the recycle bin when syncing with iTunes.

Every page in a Pages word processing document is "in a section". It may be the only page in its section, or it may be in the same section as several other pages. From the behaviour you are describing, I'd suspect your document has two sections: section 1 contains only Page 1, section 2 contains pages 2 to 6.
When you click on the Page 6 icon in the sidebar to the left of the page, you'll see a yellow border around all or part of that page icon.
If the yellow border contains only page 6, then Page 6 is in a section by itself, and pressing delete will delete only page 6.
If the yellow border contains page 6 AND any other pages, then all of the pages within that yellow border are in the same section, and pressing delete (while the icons are selected) will delete all of the pages in that section.
To delete only page 6 (the last page in the document) you need to either:
Delete any text content (including invisible characters, and preferably including any other objects) on that page, following the suggestions by Peter above,
OR
Click immediately after the last text character on Page 5, then go Insert > Section Break to place Page 6 into a section of its own. Then click on the Page 6 icon in the sidebar, check that the yellow border encloses only page 6, and press delete.

PS: It's pretty easy to add extra pages to a document without seeing the invisible characters that cause the page to appear. Not as easy as it was in Appleworks, fortunately where the personal record for one of my Grade 5 students was a 3 page document with over 1000 extra blank pages sent to a printer. AppleWorks read the enter key as a column break (which acts like a page break on a single column document). On a keyboard with a number pad, enter is in a very convenient location to rest a book (or an arm) while thinking about your writing (or chatting with your neighbor).

Got some of my wife's contacts and can't delete them!

I encountered a very strange occurence upon updating to ios6: In addition to my contacts (all stored in iCloud), about 24 of my wife's contacts appeared on my phone. And strangest of all... I can't delete them! My wife and I do not share an iCloud account, so I can't imagine how they got there. I tried turning off contacts in iCloud and removing them from my phone. All that remained were my wife's 24 contacts, none of which could be deleted. This did not occur on my iPad upon updating, nor are any of these extra contacts stored in my iCloud. It's like they are embedded in my phone! Any ideas?

Gotcha. My backups are under iOS 5, so I was hoping I could avoid having to go through the lengthy update process. Oh well...

Can I delete THEME in iDVD?

I've imported a movie from iMovie... How can I set up without the "Theme" function... in other words, how can I duplicate the iMovie without all the background nonsense in Theme? Can it be done... I'm on a deadline - help and thanks.

How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
• create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
• Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
• Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
• Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
• Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
• Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned.If it works save and close myDVDedit.
• Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:

At the present time, the only way to clear that is to restore the phone as new. Perhaps a future iOS update will give us the option to clear that cache.

(The x64 would most likely mean 64 bit). It may be a Windows based application/plugin, but since I had never heard of either, I'm only guessing there. If you do a search systemwide for it and don't find it plus don't know why it's there, I'd say throw it in the trash (don't empty it yet - make a note of the file path just in case you do have something installed that needs it so you can move it back).
Glad to hear it's not a torrent; some people use those not realizing that quite often there is a price to pay for downloading stuff for free that costs money elsewhere - the software packages quite often include little "add-ons" = malware which you really don't want.

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.

You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.
