Can I delete files from disk that I removed just from LR in error?

Hi, this is a really silly error.
I've just deleted 100s of raw files from lightroom, useless stuff that I should have deleted at the time but was too lazy to do so. Am now trying to purge all the rubbish and it's taking me days (it's from the last 3 years or so.)
This morning I just deleted several hundred images I went to empty the trash can and it's already empty and it's only then that I realise I've been just deleting the files from Lightroom and not from the disk. It's several hours work, is there any way I can now identify in the finder folder which images are not in LR, because these are the ones I want to get rid of for good. I don't want to keep them there taking up valuable memory space or restore them to LR and have to do it all again. Help!
Any advice much appreciated.

Mac OSX 6.3

Emma,
I would do the following:
BACKUP YOUR CATALOG
Synchronize the folder(s) in question (possibly to top level parent folder)
- Deselect "Scan for metadata updates" during synchronization
- Select "Import new photos" during synchronization
Delete the photos ("Delete from Disk") just imported by Synchronize from within LR (from view "Previous Import") after each import (if it's more than one folder)
This should delete all the images not previously in your catalog but existing in your folder(s).

How can I delete files from it?

The startup disk is the internal SSD in your MBA.  You may delete files by draging the file  to Trash (or clicking on them and then execute COMMAND+Delete).  Then empty Trash.

How i can recover deleted files from icloud,,I had a backup copy on iCloud for whatsapp application and I lost it,,I need bring it back what I have to do

You can't download pictures from iCloud by logging into icloud.com.  If you deleted pictures from camera roll AND photo stream, the only possibility is preforming a restore from an iCloud backup, assuming the backup has the pictures in it.  (Many users have been unable to restore and get back their pictures.)
If the restore doesn't have all the pictures, then they are gone.
In the future, use photo stream to sync photos from an iPhone to a computer, then copy the photos on the computer from the photo stream album into a permanent album.  Photo stream pics stay there only for 30 days, and only up to 1000 photos are stored.  Don't use photo stream as a storage medium, it's only for copying photos from one device to another.  Always copy (either via USB cable or photo stream) to a computer and then move to an album.

  • How can I delete files from My Mac Book Pro safely to create more space?

    Hi,
I need to delete files from my Mac Book Pro and I am not sure how to do it safely without affecting my computers drivers or operations.
In my Finder - All Files Section there are certain files in the Preview, marked as "PNG Image", Window Image, GIF image, XLM. when I look at them they seem scripted or sections of an image. How do I know which files are safe to remove
I seem to find a lot of duplicated files - is there a way of stopping this from happening?
Thanks from a little frustrated Mac Book user.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Transfer them to an external disk formatted in "MS-DOS (FAT)" with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
If you have the pictures in iPhoto, choose them with the Command key, go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export, and copy them to the external disk. Then, connect your external disk to the PC and move them.
If you have the pictures in Finder, steps are the same, but in this case, you will have to drag the pictures you chose to the external disk that you can find in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices"

  • If I use Time Machine to back-up my files, can I delete files from my Mac Air?

My Macbook Air hard drive is full, and I want to move photos to an external drive.  Once Time Machine has done a back-up, can I simply delete files from the Macbook Air?

If you can attach an external drive to the MacBook Air, you could move your image library to the external drive, then configure Time Machine to back up both your MacBook Air and the external drive.
This way, you would have your "originals" 'on one drive and "backups" on another drive. That is what backups are all about. If you move your images to the Time Capsule, they will be deleted sooner or later when Time Machine is looking for more backup space. In the meantime, even if you have the images on the Time Capsule....you will have no backups in the event of a problem with the Time Capsule or drive you are using for Time Machine.

  • Can't delete files from iTunes File Sharing

    iPad, IOS 8.1.3
    MacBook Pro Retina, OS 10.10.2
    iTunes, v12.1
I'm trying to delete files from iTunes. In this instance, I have files I made in Pages, via my iPad, I have learned how to move them to my computer without using iCloud, which I prefer. Now I can't get them off of the iTunes app on my computer.
I have deleted them from my iPad and from my computer but they are still in the iTunes app on my computer. To see these one must plug the iPad into the computer. When iTunes, on the computer, opens, choose Apps from the side bar, (under settings), scroll down to File Sharing, pick the app, in this case Pages and there is a list of all the files, (docs), still on the computer, within iTunes.
If i drag one of the files to the desk top on my computer and clic on it it will open. This is true for any of the apps under File Sharing.
This seems very insecure to me and it also appears to take up space on my iPad.
Anyone know how to get rid of these files?

    Hi,
I had an orhpanded link to a networkshare which does not exist anymore. With the "cmd" key pressed down I was able to dump the favorite to the trash.
    Thank you.

  • How can I delete files from iTunes AND my hard drive? It used to be very obvious in iTunes but I no longer see that option.

I used to easily be able to delete songs from my hard drive and library through iTunes but I no longer see that option. Is there a way to do that or a workaround of some kind?

Are these songs in the iTunes media folder shown in iTunes prefs > Advanced?
Only songs in this location will be deleted from the HD when delting from iTunes.
    Also, iTunes prefs > Advanced.
    Click Reset Warnings.
If you are deleting from a playlist, it will only delete from that playlist.
Hold Shift and press Delete to remove from the playlist and from the library.

  • Can't delete file from external hard drive

    Hi,
There is a permition problem with my external hard drive (no time mashine on it!) - can't delete certain files.
I copied my documents on my external hard drive from previous computer with windows and later with linux system on it and there had been changed icons at certain folders previously. I mention this, becouse what linux did was that it locked the changed icon files and I couldn't delete them until I unlocked them manually. But at least it showed me that i don't have permition and i could change it. Well, now I mounted the disk on my new macbook and wanted to delete some files and it seems that there is the same problem with permition, at least it seems to happen with the same files. When I want to delete them, the system asks me for admin password, I give it allright, it makes the sound as if the folder was moved to trash but that's all. the folder is still there even after dismounting and restarting. I already checked the permitions and it says in the info that i can read and write with the file so it looks as if my rights were ok...
Please help, I desperatly need more space for new backup and can't get rid of the files I don't need any more...
Thank you for any sort of simple-ish advice

Thanx for such qucik reply!!! The pages were great, it had an answer for my problem, but unfortunately it also involved me dealing with it only on the MacIntosh HD itself, not on mounted external drive I suppose... So it didn't work they say that there is an icon in the left corner indicating locked folder - I don't see any icon on it. It says you can untick the box to unlock the folder - there is no tick to be unticked. Finally, they say that if I don't have permition or rights I cannot delete it. But how do i change permittion which already says that i can read and write in it? So everything appears to be normal only I cannot delete it. there is not even any warnig telling me I don't have enough rights, it just requires the password and after me typing it in it makes the sound of scraping paper but does nothing more. I aslo had some problems with emptying Trash after being seemingly succesful with one file and had got so far to have them appear in the Trash (no clue how this one actully got there though..) I followd the advice and emptied the Trash with Terminal. The Folder is still there but it shows 0 Kb... So far so good BUT: It is still on the external drive, so I obviously only managed to copy it into the Trash!!! Phew, innit a bit too tight to poor owners, this macbook?? I want my rights back!

  • Can't delete files from HD connected to AirPort Extreme

Hello. I have a 802.11n Airport Extreme base station, and connected to it I have an Iomega 750GB UltraMax hard drive. I can read and write to the hard drive OK, but whenever I try to delete a single file from the HD, it takes FOREVER. When I try to delete multiple items that add up to many gigs of data, I eventually lose the connection between my Mac and the Airport and need to reset the Airport and run the setup utility to get things back up and running again.
Also, I want to use this HD as my backup using Carbon Copy Cloner, however I have been unsuccessful at doing so... any time a backup begins, it immediately stops and the log shows this:

I am having a similar problem deleting old backup files from my Airport attached USB drives. I have old time machine backups and it won't let me delete them. I keep getting an error message "... some data could not be read or written. (Error Code -36)" and a disconnect message for the drive.
    Have you solved your problem?

  • Can't delete file from iPod

I have a podcast episode on my iPod that iTunes doesn't think is Music, Podcast, or Audiobook, so the only place it appears is in a playlist. So I can't delete this podcast from my iPod at all. When I delete it from the playlist, there is no way to list it from iTunes unless I create a smart playlist searching for artist or podcast name. So why doesn't apple have an "All" category so that I can delete these files that can't be deleted? These type of things used to show up in the Music list, they changed the Music list to not show all files in the Library.

Shift-Delete worked. Now if I could only find the podcasts that got deleted from my iPod that still take up space somehow. Even those don't come up in smart playlists. If I click on my iPod (top level) I get a graph of Audio, Other and Free space. My "Other" reads 122 MB. What is "Other"? It can't be podcasts because I have 381 MB of those.

  • Can't delete file from LR, requires password from finder Mac OS

I have an older Powermac running OSX 10.5.8. I store all of my images under the same folder on the same external hard drive. For some reason, and this has never happened before, has always functioned normally before this, I don't know why, images cannot be deleted and moved to the trash in LR. From the finder level, those files each require I type in my password (Finder requires that you type in your password.) This has never happened before, I've tried a shut down and cold re-boot but the behavior persists. Images are not locked and everything looks normal but not behaving normal. I realize this is not a Lightroom problem, but I need to delete from Lightroom because it is where I can review the images best while choosing which ones can be deleted. Anyone seen this Mac behavior before? Any fix you know of?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Sound's like the files don't have the correct permissions. Since they're on an external drive, you could just select the drive's icon, bring up the info window (Cmd+i) and tick the checkbox "Ignore ownership on this volume".
I do that with all my additional internal/external drives by default. It's usually no problem unless you need to prevent other users from accessing the files.

  • Can't delete files from external hard drive

So here's an interesting problem that I've never run across. I have a Western Digital hard drive plugged in and I was deleting some files off it today when suddenly it started saying that there were some files in use and it couldn't delete those. I hit "Continue" which usually does the trick but it just deleted everything else and left a bunch of folders with these weird empty files in them. So I quit all programs and tried again. Same thing, "Cannot delete, file in use." Tried rebooting both my computer and the external, again "Files in use." Did a google search, followed numerous suggestions, terminal sudo rm -r +file name, a force delete app, secure delete, holding down the option button while deleting... No dice. When I try the sudo rm thing in terminal it tells me that the folder doesn't exist AND that it isn't empty and won't delete it. (I love computers) When I do a right click->Get info on it, it says that I have read-write permissions but that the files are locked but won't let me unlock them (I'm the system administrator). When I look at the files in finder, it says they're actually aliases. What's really weird is that the file names are all messed up and have asian characters and stuff in them. I didn't create these aliases or have files with those characters in them. Soooo... Any suggestions? Cause I've read the threads and tried just about everything. I'm concerned this drive is headed for a crash or maybe just needs to be wiped and then put my stuff back on cause it's gotten errors over time. I don't know, I've never had this happen before and I'm pretty good with computers. If it was a windows computer I'd be doing a scan disk and defrag on it but I don't know how to do that on a mac to an external hard drive. I honestly don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh... well  this is interesting... disk utility is say that it IS formatted MS-DOS (FAT32). Is that what's causing these errors? This thing has been running with my mac beautifully for years. So do I pull my stuff off, wipe it and reformat it for a mac? Or since it is FAT 32 can I hook it up to a windows computer and fix the problem? Since I had the wrong format, I can delete the files but if I don't fix the format this will keep happening?

  • Can't Delete Files From Trash. Tried Everything!

While cleaning my external harddrive, I sent movie files to the trash. However, upon emptying the trash, three Unix Executable Files remained. I cannot for the life of me find a way to delete them. The "Get Info" page says the files are "Zero bytes (1 kb on disk)," and that I have "unknown access" the directory for the files is "/Volumes/FreeAgent GoFlex Drive/.Trashes/501." I attempted to recreate the folder locations on the external, but when I try to drag the files from the trash back to the drive, I get either error code 36 or 8072. Ive tried to securely delete and also tried third party applications to no avail. However, When I eject the harddrive, my trash is empty. It is only when the harddrive is plugged in that the trash is full. Please Help!

nevermind. I repaired the disk and it deleted the files

  • Can I delete files from my computer and still keep them on my iPod touch?

I have researched this topic here as well as on Google and I am not really getting the answers I need. I am by no means an iTunes/iPod pro; my 3 year old recently showed me how to shut off my iPod (I hadn't realized before that it had anything other than a "sleep mode", if you will).
I have read you need to set iTunes from autosync to manual, but this isn't working for me... iTunes still wants to delete/replace everything currently stored on my iPod, or will say it can't find the files on my iPod if I've already deleted them from my PC.
I have Windows XP. I recently upgraded my iTunes software to 9.2.1.5, and I have an iPod touch 64GB.
I really need to delete a lot of MP3s and videos (not purchased from iTunes) to clear up space on my home PC, but I'm afraid to do it because every time I end up having to replace the deleted files anyway whenever I sync the thing.
I click on "manual" on the Summary page, I then click on "sync music" and "Sync Movies". On each of those pages I get a pop up, and if I don't click on music or movies previously added to my iPod, they get deleted. The "manual" option doesn't save itself as the default option either, I always have to recheck it every time I sync my iPod. Otherwise, it always goes back to the autosync mode.
I would just like to add new files to my iPod, leave the stuff already stored on it, and delete the files off my computer. I don't know if I'm still doing it wrong, or if there's an iTunes glitch or what. Can someone please explain how to do this?

Sounds like you have a few problems going on here. First one being, the itunes/ipod preference isn't getting saved for manually managing.
Second one being, if you are intending to manually manage content on your ipod, hitting sync does just that - it puts the ipod "in sync" with the PC. If a file isn't on the PC, it gets erased from the ipod.
My advice is to get an external hard drive, leave the ripped files from your CDs there so itunes always has access to them, and free up space on your PC's hard drive that way. An added benefit of having an exHD is, you can have backups copies of your purchased tracks, since you only get one download of them. If your PC dies, they will be on the exHD, or vice versa.
