Hi....Found this info.
1) Choose any application which 'has to slim'
2) Option-Drag the application to any location you like (in order to create a backup copy of the application in case anything goes wrong)
3) Control-Click on that program's icon
4) Select 'Show Package Content'
5) Go to Contents -> Resources
6) Remove '.lproj' folders related to languages you don't speak (e.g. 'Dutch.lproj' or 'Japanese.lproj' folders)
You are done. Now double click the application: in case it doesn't run, you can restore the application from the location where you saved it before (step 2).

  • I can't input foreign language on MAC OS 9

    Hello all. I need some help, my boss has a G4 originally running on 9.0.4 in Icelandic. he updated to 9.2.2 and then we decided to upgrade to OS X (10.3.9) but we have a problem. at First classic environment wouldn't start displaying a window that said "Classic doesn't have the translated versions of the files it needs to update in System Folder" i looked for help on this issue but I was very unlucky, couldn't find any answers at all. Therefore, what we ended up doing was copying the Entire System Folder from antoner MAC running OS X where classic did'n have a problem to start up. But now, we've encountered a series of problems, the most important one is that when we run OS 9 applications, the original icelandic fonts are not loaded and what's worse you can't even input icelandic text onto the applications anymore. BUT if you restart the computer on 9.2.2 you DO get the little Iceland Flag and are able to type and manage icelandic fonts with no problem. My question is, is there anyone out there who could give me a hint on how to solve this. I have tried every search engine and returned emptyhanded.
    Thank you very much.
    Please reply!

    It is possible that it actually doesn't work.
    As far as I remember, to type in Icelandic in MacOS 9 you had to install some sort of a hack which only was available from Apple Iceland.
    It could be that this modification of the OS is not compatible with Classic mode of MacOS X.
    However, if it really isn't possible, I think the guys at http://www.apple.is/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3 would be able to tell you so.

  • Cleaning out foreign language files

    I installed the latest Micro-Smith Spring Cleaning Ap.
    To save space I've been deleting foreign language files.
    How many of these can be removed?
    I've currently got 5627.
    For example, do I need any Arab files?
    I thought that when I initially installed Leopard I opted for only English, but the Spring Cleaning Language File Folder indicated that I had over six thousand.
    MS Tech Support said, "I don't have the exact number of how many non english files there are. If you want, you can probably contact apple to see if they have an exact number of non-english files. To be honest, I would just leave it alone. Those files don't take up much space, and its not going to do your system any harm."
    The files do take up space. If I don't need them why shouldn't I delete them?

    As per one other respondent, I have used Monolingual with OSX (note:prior to Leopard. I haven't seen anything to confirm it won't mess up Leopard) but I haven't had any problems with it.
    The advice it offers is to leave any file related to your main language - in other words if you use US English, keep International English. I also erred on the side of caution and kept anything that mentioned English. You can easily save about 2Gb of space doing this as it deletes a lot of project and help files related to apps like iDVD.
    I'm no expert but if you opt for English as your installed language it might be the case that OSX installs in English but additional stuff like iLife still installs all the foreign language files.
    It also gives you the option to remove unwanted processor architectures. I was wary of this option but I had no problems, although it didn't save quite as much space.
    Good Luck

  • Problem with charsets for foreign languages

    hi
    i have a problem with a webapplication
    in my webapplication i have some code that gets data from a webpage of another webapplication. This other web application can use many foreign languages
    the problem is that those foreign languages contain some special characters, and those special chars aren't displayed the right way
    this is the code to get the data from the other webapp
    private static StringBuffer getContent(String sUrl) throws MalformedURLException, IOException  {
            StringBuffer content = new StringBuffer();
            URL url = new URL(sUrl);
            HttpURLConnection httpURLConn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
            httpURLConn.setRequestProperty("charset", "utf-8");
            BufferedReader buffReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(httpURLConn.getInputStream()));
            String inputLine;
            while ((inputLine = buffReader.readLine()) != null) {
                content.append("\n" + inputLine);
            return content;
        }as you see , i tried to set the encoding to UTF-8 but that did not solve the problem

    an example of those special chars

    I just installed Firefox last night and the home page is in a foreign language. I cannot use it to navigate, as I cannot read the language.

    You can try to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]
    You can also try to reset the defaults:
    # Left-click the search engines icon on the search bar

    my adobe illustrator is in a foreign language. how can i turn it into english?

    First please remember this is a public forum.  If you are going to respond to the thread via e-mail please remove your signature prior to responding.
    To resolve your difficulties you will need to go to the Language & Text preference pane.  Once there click on Edit List and remove all languages besides English.  You will then likely need to remove and reinstall the trial as the language setting I believe is set during the installation process.

  • Why can't Preview search in a foreign language?

    I have a long .pdf document in Russian but find, as in the past, that words placed in Preview's search bar always get no hits.
    If Preview can display a text in a foreign language, why can't it search for words in that language?

    Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview.
    The basic problem is that the pdf format is not reliable for searching, and sometimes even copy/pasting non-Latin text.  Depending on how it is produced, the internal representation of the text can easily become useless garbage.

  • How can i set predictive text to a foreign language

    I'm new to apple and iPhones. I've got everything setup in English but I frequently want to send text and/or email messages in French. When I do this predictive text jumps in and changes things to what it thinks I want in English. e.g. if I type tous it predicts I want toys and inserts it accordingly. How can I set predictive text to a foreign language.
    (p.s. my wife's iPad works fine as it has a button to press for alternative language but I don't see anything similar for iPhone)

    Add the French keyboard.
    Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add > French

    (1) My iBooks Author help resources are in a foreign language. How do I change it to English? (2) Is there an iBooks Author pdf manual I can download?

    There is no PDF available. I sent a link  to a page full of links and info not much different from the help files.
    There are many Free books in the iBooks store which will take you through the basics of iBA.
    I  like "Create your first Interactive book using iBooks Author"   its created by iBook-Widgets.com - who also  supply widgets at a price.. but the book is very free and very good.. search the iBooks store for their title.
    You cannot use iBA on an iPad, however, I also use the iPad app --  "Book Creater"   ( redjumper.net ) its very low priced around $3 or so. The people who  create it are helpful and friendly. You can distribut your books to friends and family  using  Dropbox or other cloud storage. If you want to creaet an ePub file and then upload to the iBooks store, its not difficult.  You create the book on your iPad. It is no where near as good as iBA for functionality.. but it spossible to  make really good eBooks.
    I think Applecare shoud come into effect with the language problems if it can be  found to be a glitch on the computer.  Applecare is product based and does not apply to software.
    Take it stage by stage,   visit your Apple store and   ask if they can solve the help files in langauges first, then  react to the answer, it could be they can solve the issue which leave you a clear path with iBA.
    Also you can  gather more indormation about how to use it with the help files.
    Try the info I have  included and   see how it develpops... any problems get back here and we can look for alternatives.

  • How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses

    How can I filter or block foreign language emails or email addresses??
    TIA
    C

    Most email clients have a provision to create a 'rule'. The rule examines the email as it is received. In generally you can search for specifically senders, recipients,subjects, or specific content words in the body. Based upon the findings of the rule, you can do something with the email (such as end it directly to the Trash).
    For example if you know where all of valid you emails come from, you can create a rule that checks the from field for an acceptable sender and sends those email's that to the inbox, while sending all emails from other senders to the trash or spam folder
    Keeping out foreign language emails is often difficult because because often it is difficult to come up with a rule that will catch them on the basis of language they are written in.
    There are also commercial products that can scan incoming email and 'score' the email based upon content, and you decide at what 'score'  you want the mail sent straight to the trash or spam folder. Verizon's spam filter does this based upon Verizon's scoring system, and actually does catch a lot of spam. It also occaisonally catches things that are not spam however....
    Hope that is helpful

  • HT2242 I can't read which is Edit or Preferences!!! duh! its in a foreign language!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Can someone please help as apple itunes support would not accept my serial number which I entered correctly.  Why does everything have to be sooooo difficult?  I downloaded itunes and unistalled and installed several times with the same problem.  Agreement comes up in a foreign language.  I must have clicked the right one but now I can't work out which is Edit and Preferences or know how I click on Australian english from the language on the screen. Please helppppppppp...................

    "Edit" is the second menu counting from the left.
    "Preferences" is the bottom item in the Edit menu.
    In the leftmost preferences tab, go down to the drop down menu at the bottom of the tab. Counting from the top, English UK is the 8th entry in the list.
    Click the leftmost of the two buttons in the bottom-right-hand corner of the tab. (That's the OK button.)
    Now restart iTunes. Are you back in English?
