Can I delete iPhoto amd iPhoto library once Photos is in place

Can I delete iPhoto amd iPhoto library once Photos is in place, or iPhoto is still useful.

Yes -  but don't.
Wait until Photos matures.  Both libraries will live side by side.  As will the apps. You can still open your iPhoto library with iPhoto.

  • How can i delete images from iPhoto?

I can not delete images from iphoto. When I try to move pictures to the trash they do not move, and if I try to delete them by pressing "right click> Trash" they do not move! pretty much the only way I can delete pictures from iphoto is to delete the library.
Can anyone help me? I'm about to permanently delete iphoto from my macbook pro.
    it is nerve-wracking!

Where are you trying to move these photos from?  The following are the key combinations for moving from different entities in the library:
Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library:
1 - from the Event or Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
If none of the above work try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem persists in the new library make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

Which can I delete...camera roll or photo stream?

    Hello cleofigaro
You can delete from both places if you want. All you would need to do is view the photo that you do not want and then tap the trashcan icon in the lower right hand corner. If you want to do more photos at once, when looking a multiple photos tap the Select button in the upper right hand corner and then tap the photos and videos that you want deleted and then hit the trashcan to remove them

  • I have just imported Iphoto library into aperture library, can I delete now the Iphoto Library ?

Hi, I have juste imported Iphoto library into Aperture Library (did a copy) - can I delete my Iphoto library as I won't use Iphoto anymore ?
    Thanks Hélème

    Helene,
Both of those things you pointed out are mere *metadata*.
When you imported your iPhoto library, since you did a copy, your libraries are completely independent.
When I was in your situation, I moved my iPhoto library to an external disk and then went to the Aperture library to see how it behaved, even though i was 99.99% sure my iPhoto and Aperture libraries were separate.

  • I am moving all my iphoto pictures to seperate folders outside of iphoto.  I have found iphoto slighlty cumbersome.  After I move all pictures from iphoto to a separate file how can I delete all the iphoto photos without deleting the ones in the file?

I am moving all of my iphoto pictures into seperate folders becuase iphoto is great, but a bit cumbersome when I need to transfer all the pictures to a external drive.
    1) After I move all pictures, how can I delete the iphoto pictures without destroying the ones I have in files
    2) how can I ensure that I have sucessfully captures all the iphoto files so when I delelte from iphoto I have not forgotten any
    3) is there a way to determine what duplicate pictures I have?
    Thanks!

If you Control click on the iPhoto Library, you'll see a list of folders - one named "Masters". Inside of this folder are all of your original, high-res photos. You can copy them to other folders if you like.
You can't delete iPhoto pics without deleting the ones in the iPhoto Library.
You can copy all of your Masters pics out of the Library, ensuring that you won't forget any.
I don't know of anyway to determine if there are duplicate photos - most (if not all) have a unique name assigned.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How can I delete and reinstall iPhoto?

There is an issue with the new operating system and iPhoto when creating a book, how do I delete and reinstall iPhoto?

drag the iPhoto application to the trash and
    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first
However it would be a good idea to tell us what is going one - most likely you need to fix your library not reinstall the application - it is rare to need to reinstall the Application

  • How can I delete an event on an Ipad2, PHOTOS or Iphoto for IOS?

How can I delete a photo event on an IPAD2 using either PHOTOS or IPHOTO for IOS?
    Thanks

If the event is a synced event from iPhoto on your Mac, you have to deselect the event in iTunes while the iPad is connected to the Mac and with iTunes running and then sync - in order to remove the event from the photos app.
Synced photos cannot be deleted directly on the device. You must unsync the photos using iTunes on your computer.

  • Can't Delete clips from Iphoto event

This is driving me crazy. I can't delete clips from the "iPhoto" event within imovie '08. Followed all the instruction, nothing. The 'move rejected clips to trash' in the menu is grayed out. Anybody have any solutions?? Thanks

Delete them in iPhoto. iMovie will not delete material "owned' by another application.

  • Can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud, can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud

once you upload songs, photos or documents fron ipod touch to icloud, can you delete them from ipod touch to free up memory from ipod touch and can you access them from icloud without downloading to ipod?

You can't upload music to iCloud unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber, and if you are the songs are uploaded or matched from the iTunes library on your computer, not your device.  Photos are only uploaded to Photo Stream temporarily (30 days), for up to 1000 photos so it's not meant to be a permanent storage option.  The uploaded photos are also generally of lower quality than the originals on your device.  Also, only photos taken on your device after turning on Photo Stream are uploaded.  Finally, when you turn Photo Stream on, uploaded photos will be streamed back to your device in a Photo Stream album (so it actually uses some of your memory rather than saving it).  As for documents, only iWork documents are uploaded.
If you really want to free up storage on your device consider more permanent cloud storage services such as DropBox (which will handle photos and all documents).

  • I can't delete songs from my library unless I'm in the bulk "music" tab. This will cost me hours of time to sort through. Help!

I used to be able to delete songs from my library from any playlist by holding ALT and pressing BACKSPACE. Now, this only works in the bulk "Music" tab which lists every single item in my entire playlist. I have about 300 items in my playlist that need to be deleted (They are remnants of deleted files and no longer point to an existing file location). I have a smart playlist that collects all these items, and in the past I would periodically just delete the contents of that list from the whole library. Now I can't do that. I thought of trying to modify all the items under a common album title so I could find the whole group in the "Music" tab and delete them there, but iTunes won't let me modify them because they don't have a valid file path. (That's exactly the reason I'm trying to delete them! AARGH!)
The only alternative I can think of is to look up every single item individually and manually delete them one by one, which would amount to a few hours of wasted time. I'm so frustrated. I don't understand why each progressive installment of iTunes does away with features that were helpful and useful when they existed. I feel like Apple hates me.Can anyone help me?

Use Shift+Delete to remove items from a playlist and the library at the same time.

  • Creating a new library for backing up, can I delete my old iTunes Library?

Hey there I was wondering this, I am creating a new folder for my library because the old one had a lot of music I decided to delete. My question is can I delete the old Library or would that prevent me from being able to use iTunes?
Thank you to anyone that helps
    Message was edited by: WhalesEatWorms

Either way. If you want to delete the current library and start a new one with the new songs, you can. If you'd prefer to add the new songs to the existing library, and then delete the current songs, you can do that too.
As long as you don't delete the songs that you want, you will be able to use iTunes.

  • HT4914 can i delete music from my computer once it's in itunes match cloud?

once all my music has been uploaded to the cloud as part of itunes match, can i delete the actual files off of my computer?

    Hi fasking,
If you take a look at the following article, there should be an option when deleting the local file for whether or not you want to delete the copy on iCloud:
iTunes Store: How to delete songs from iCloud
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4915
To delete an item from iCloud in iTunes
From a computer with iTunes Match enabled, open iTunes 10.5.1 or later on your computer. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Click Music on the left side of iTunes.
Select the item you would like to delete. Right-click the item and then choose Delete.
You will be asked to confirm this action.
If the item you want to delete exists in iTunes on your computer as well as in iCloud, click the checkbox to also delete the item from iCloud.
It's also always a good idea to have a local backup of any files you are concerned about keeping:
