Can I delete iPhoto now?

Can I delete the iPhoto app after I have imported all of my photos to the new Photos app? I have already deleted my iPhoto library.
Thanks

lol, thank you!
I have the 128 GB MacBook.  So iPhoto takes up >1% of my Hard Drive space.  Additionally, I have 8TB of external storage I use regularly, and another 7TB I use for backups, and another 4TB I use for super-safe-just-in-case backups.  So yeah, I have a larger drive, but I couldn't really afford to double the space for the bigger SSD.
I am a videographer and I prefer to only store necessary system files on my Mac.  I also heavily use Logic, and am about to download the Logic Additional content (19.7 GB) so every little bit helps.  I don't know if I can put those files on my external drives, but I want to have access to them even if I don't have my externals.
Thanks though, I do agree with you.  It's not that I need the space badly, but I need to not have wasted space.

You could by why would you?
You paid for it, the application doesn;t really take up much space and there may come a time when you want it or need it.

Make a backup to save it.
Open "Photos" to migrated your photos to Photos, otherwise your photos will be deleted
Right now, iPhoto is unsupported on iOS 8 and does not run.
Unfortunately, Photos is not a full replacement for iPhoto. Many features are missing, as you will discover - no Journals, no books, no brushed adjustments, no tags, no Info panel.

  • Can I delete iPhoto library and iPhoto in 10.10.3?

After upgrading to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, I can use Photos.app instead of iPhoto.app.
The thing is, there are two photo libraries in my finder. So can I delete iPhoto.photolibrary without affecting my photos in Photos.photoslibrary?( I chose iPhoto library when setting up Photos.app)
Now given Photos.app, am I to understand that I can completely ignore iPhoto from now on and delete iPhoto.app from my mac?
Thanks for all the help! Really appreciate!

I have done just that, not sure in your case regarding the library's - I let Photos create its own library and not importing from iPhoto's, but I think which ever option you use when first starting Photos it will only use the Photos library after the initial import. Try moving iPhoto library to trash without emptying and open Photos, if all ok you can then delete.
I removed the iPhoto app as well gaining over 1.5 GB of space, also tracked down the other minor files in ~/Library/Caches and Preferences (plus a few other places) - but these are very small files and if you prefer can be left alone.
Lastly, if you delete iPhoto app you may get a prompt from App Store regarding reinstalling, read somewhere to stop that you need to remove any pkg files in Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts - if you do this last part make sure you only remove pkg files that contain "iphoto" in the description!

I synced the photos to my ipad from my pc which i dont have now. How can i delete them now ?

Do you normally sync to a computer? I ended up in the same boat when I'd synced some photos on, then got a new computer and forgot to remove the photos. What I had to do was set up to sync an empty folder on my new computer, which basically erased the old photos, replaced them with the nothing that was in the new folder.

  • Can I delete iPhoto amd iPhoto library once Photos is in place

Can I delete iPhoto amd iPhoto library once Photos is in place, or iPhoto is still useful.

    Yes -  but don't.
Wait until Photos matures.  Both libraries will live side by side.  As will the apps. You can still open your iPhoto library with iPhoto.

  • Can I delete iPhoto Library now I use Photo for iCloud?

    Hi,
Had a look around for the answer but I cannot find it.
My MBP is running low on HD space, can i delete the old iPhoto Library now i am storing them all on the cloud with photo?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Very good point, once they take it out of BETA then in theory it would be ok?
Will also be saving a local backup also so im not relying on icloud fully.

  • Can i delete iPhoto app now i have photos?

Now I have 10.10.3 and photos can I delete the iPhoto app?

From what I've read elsewhere, I wouldn't delete iPhoto just yet. Apple seems to be doing its 'iMovie / Pages' thing again, where it rewrites from the ground up, but the new app is a long way from what went before. As long as you have iPhoto 9.6.1, you can run both in 10.3.

You need to update iPhoto to version 9.6 for Yosemite.
If you do not see an update on the AppStore Updates page, move the iPhoto application to the Trash (don't empty the Trash), then sign into the AppStore and download Photo from the main, "featured" tab. Type iPhoto into the search field.

  • Can i delete iphoto data after moving to aperture?

I am trying to clean up my hard drive and I'm wondering if I can delete the following information now that I have moved to Aperture:
    1. images in the "Pictures" folder which are there for some reason I don't understand
    2. "IPhoto Library Recovered Photos" folder
3, "IPhoto Library Recovered Photos_2" folder
    4. "iPhoto Slideshows" folder
    5. "Rebuilt Library" file which shows as being a " iPhoto Library" Kind of file.
Collectively these seem to take up 50 GB of data and I am trying to get clear of my nasty and brutish port to mac from a PC environment (not pretty and not easy).
    TIA

    Hi Terence.
    Thank you!
Can I please ask you what I should look at on 5? It sounds like there is a a question as to whether my "port" from iPhoto to Aperture dragged the images out of the iPhoto database and into the Aperture database?
Is there a way to check on this?
    Thanks.

  • Can't delete iphoto images from hard drive

I transferred my iphoto library onto my external hard drive in order to save some space. When I moved the existing library of images to trash in iphoto it deleted it from iphoto but didn't free up any space on my hard drive. I have tried to find these images but have had no joy at all. any advice would be much appreciated.
    I have iphoto '09 and version 8.1.2 (424)

You sure you don't have more than one Library?
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • Can I delete previews, now that I have 'Smart Previews'?

Lightroom 5 spent hours creating 'smart previews' for all of my photos, but there are still 29,786 previews in 28,436 folders(???) on my computer.
How can I safely delete them to save space?
Can anyone explain why there are so many folders? None of them, that I've examined, contain more than 5 files.
    thanks in advance

Trawling through 28k folders must surely adversely affect performance of the whole machine.
I think it does not, because a) LR will normally fetch only a few previews per second from the cache at most (if you browse very fast) - or at least for a limited time (page up/down in grid mode), and b) the folder hierarchy is very flat (two levels inside the preview folder, e.g. "xy Previews.lrdata\8\8A80"). This is a commonly used pattern to build a "quasi indexing system" to find files very fast, relieving the file system from a possibly lengthy search operation on a flat folder. It should not have a negative impact on the performance IMHO - on the contrary.

  • Should I delete iPhoto now that I've updated the OS and have Photos?

  • Why did deleted photos reappear on iPhone but I can't delete them now? They are not in my albums or photos stream.  I do not use a laptop either. After a software upgrade they suddenly reappeared.

I have an iPhone and iPad & use the cloud. I do not use a Mac or laptop.
Several months ago I deleted a bunch of photos off both devices.   After a software update on my iPhone, several of those photos reappeared.  Since the update, there is a new way to look at photos by date and the appear there and only there on my iPhone only.   They do not show up under the camera or photo stream.  There is no option to be delete them from the phone.
I didn't do the software update on my iPad and they are on on that device, only the iPhone.   I went to the apple store but they couldn't figure it out either.
Please help!  My new boyfriend is going crazy about these old beau photos.

YOu restore your phone from your icloud backup.
