• Can't delete messages from inbox

We have reached our quota so in an effort to reduce it we have deleted unwanted emails & copied older emails to a new folder under our local folders tab. We are now having troubles deleting the copied emails from our inbox.
Your assistance with this matter would be much appreciated. Thank you!

If you have an IMAP mail account and you have selected to delete emails but they are still on the server....
Right click on Inbox folder and select 'Compact'.
This should remove all 'marked as deleted' mail.

• After sending emails, they won't copy to "SENT" folder. And I can't delete messages from INBOX

I've archived and compacted folders to there is plenty of room

Hi marygilles56,
Firefox is a web browser. It displays the content of existing sites. Things like email or page contents come from the content provider. Who is your email provider? You'll probably have better luck consulting their help documentation. Any easy way to see if the problem is on the Firefox side is to try using IE or Safari. If the issue still happens with both of them, it's an issue with your email provider.
Hopefully this helps!

• HT1146 I can not delete messages from my gmail account - help please

My deleted messages from my gmail account keep coming back. How can I permanently delete them?

Hello,
Certain Thunderbird problems can be solved by peforming a ''Clean Reinstall''. This means you remove Thunderbird's Program Files then reinstall Thunderbird. Please follow these steps:
#Download the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download is complete, close all Thunderbird windows (Click Exit/Quit from the menu button on the right).
#*'''Windows:'''
#** C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\
#** C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Thunderbird from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Thunderbird with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Thunderbird on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ Thunderbird Download Page], simply remove the folder ''thunderbird'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Thunderbird:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to open Thunderbird after clicking the Finish button.
WARNING: Do not run Thunderbird's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Thunderbird data, including but not limited to, extensions, emails, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!
Please report back to see if this helped you!
Thank you.

• Cannot delete messages from inbox, cannot move messages out of inbox, message do not copy to "sent" or "draft"

The following problems occur:
- cannot delete messages,
- cannot move messages out of inbox,
- messages do not copy "sent"
- messages cannot be saved to "draft"
This applies to imap and to gmail accounts.
The following has not helped:
- compact trash and other folder
- deinstall and reinstall TB 31.4.
- archive profile with mozbackup and replace profile from archive after reinstall of TB.
- deinstall and reinstall TB 31.3 downgraded
- delete all folders and files with "trash*" in the file name (all IMAP)
- delete all files of 1 mail account completely in the TB profile and resync from server (IMAP)
This might coincide with these system changes:
- upgrade to TB 31.4.
- some of these email accounts were installed on ios8 iphone.
Not sure if the problems had already started before these 2 occurrences.
Any help is appreciated to solve this.
Thanks!
fashi

What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If POP, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings?
You may be able to get rid of those messages in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X) (for best results do it with one message or just a few at a time), but you should remove them from the server first if they’re still there.
Does this account allow web access? If not, you may find the Account Info window useful to solve this problem — choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window.

• How can I delete messages from the local Sent folder without deleting from the remote server?

I am running out of disk space on my local machine. Analysing this, I can see that a large amount of space is being taken up by local storage of Sent emails from my IMAP synchronised account.
I do not see how I can delete the local copies from my PC without them being deleted from the Server as well. There is an account setting option under Synchronisation and Storage to delete messages, but it says they will be deleted from both the local machine and the remote server.
I need to keep the server versions as these are business accounts and it is important I have all my old messages stored somewhere.

Short answer: get a bigger hard disk.
You could disable synchronization and free up the space on your local disk without loosing the messages. However, this would eliminate the possibility to create backups of your messages.
Since you mentioned this is important business mail, you shouldn't take chances.

• Versamail can't delete messages from Verizon acct.

I can still send email from my TX via my Verizon account using Versamail, but when I mark messages deleted, tell it to delete on the device and on the server and update the server, the next time I do a mail sync the deleted messages come back.
Verizon changed the port on the outgoing server a while back, and I made that change in Versamail. Still doesn't delete stuff on the server.
Any ideas?

Hello Nelson Vasquez,
It sounds like you want to delete some messages from the Messages app. You should be able to do that with this info from the following article:
iOS: Using Messages
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3529
How do I delete a Message?
You can delete a message by choosing More… after tapping and holding a message bubble in your current Messages conversation. Selected messages that will be deleted show a checkmark to the left. Tap the trash, in the bottom left corner, and choose Delete Message.
If you are doing this and it is not working, or this is not what you are wanting to do could you clarify just a bit for me?
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,
Sterling

• Mail 4.2 Automatically Deleting Messages from Inbox/Sent after 30 Days

Running Mail 4.2 and four POP accounts - I've looked everywhere in Preferences but there is nothing that indicates why Mail should be deleting my Inbox and Sent messages over 30 days old. This just started and it has always let me view my messages back well over a year. The messages that I've moved to mailboxes I've created are all intact, just the Inbox/Sent.
This is not good because I've kept a lot of messages in there I've wanted to keep. I'm running Time Machine and it's no use -- the messages don't exist there either. Any thoughts?
I suppose I could run a script each day to move Inbox/Sent messages to a "Hold" mailbox but that seems like a ridiculous work-around. Thanks! Greg

I usually either delete them after I've answered them, or move them to an appropriate mailbox I've created - I have at least 15 - to keep (some indefinitely). I try to keep my inbox and sent box reasonably clean - the only messages there are current/unanswered/waiting for action.
I used to have a few problems with messages disappearing quite some time ago and could not figure it out until I finally changed my settings on the Comcast web mail preferences - they are now set to be deleted after 30 daywhich is fine for me. My Mail preferences are set to remove messages from server after one week - but they are not; as I learned, the Comcast settings override the Mail settings.
It's a long shot, but you might want to change the settings on your Comcast web mail not to delete messages until 90 days later - changing my settings took care of my local Mail problem.

• Can't drag messages from inbox to specific mail boxes

All of a sudden mail does not allow me to drag messages from the inbox to specific mail boxes - anyone else having a similar issue and i so, what is the solution ?
Thanks.

Hi,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.

• I can't delete messages from my Ipad2

I have a number of messages on my Ipad2 that I can't delete. Press delete and nothing happends. So frustrating as the messages are building up!!! Help

Try resetting your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Now tap the Messages icon then swipe across a message then tap Delete.

• Can't delete messages from Gmail mailbox

I use Apple Mail with Gmail.
When I delete a message from that mailbox, it disappears, but if switch to another mailbox and come back, it again there.
And actually there is no trash icon.
iCloud mailbox works good.

In your Gmail settings go to labels, and check that the Trash is shown in Imap box is ticked.
If you do this, you will see a Trash folder in Mail, and you need to use that to trash an email.

• Can't delete email from inbox

When I drag emails from the Inbox to Trash, nothing shows up in Trash on My Mac or iCloud. And the deleted emails are back in my Inbox.

• Cannot delete mail from inbox

I have been using an iptouch for a long time. Now suddenly I can't delete messages from the inbox. Keep getting an error message. I have tried changing the Trash location in the Settings and also deleting the mail account and re-setting my POP mail (Yahoo mail).
Very frustrating. Any advice?
Ken

I have my email set up as an IMAP account and was getting the same "unable to move..." message. I suspected the problem for me had to do something with the trash bin on the phone and the trash bin on the server not communicating properly. I tried this and it worked for me, although from other posts, I see it doesn't work for everyone:
1. Go to "Settings"
2. Select "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
3. Select the mail account in question
4. Select "Account Info"
4. Select "Advanced"
5. Select "Deleted Mailbox"
6. Under "On My Server", Click the "Trash" folder (or whatever your trash folder is called on your server). This should put a check mark beside it.
