Can I delete photos from my SD card in iPhoto?

I love iPhoto but i can't get one thing figured out. I want to delete photos from my SD card within iPhoto. I don't want to have to import things before deleting them. I don't like deleting them as I import because I worry about losing the pictures. So I like to import, back up on CD, and would then (and only then!) like to delete the ones I have imported & backed up from the camera.
I know I can do this manually in Finder but I would prefer to do it in iPhoto because it's easier, plus that way I can see which photos I'm deleting. I'm sure there is a way but it won't let me drag the photos to the trash.
I'm frustrated and I hope someone can help! Thanks in advance.

Aloha, I have found the easiest way to do what you are after is to set up Image Capture (located in your applications folder) to open when a camera/card is connected. You then have the option to view the photos, delete any you don't want and import them to iPhoto, or your desktop. I have a specific folder named downloaded pics which I send them to. You also have the option for Image Capture to erase card when finished importing. It is an extra step, but I have found it very helpful for not wasting space and not importing everything only to have to delete photos later. Hope this helps. JB

You can't.  Use Image Capture instead.
It's located in your Applications folder.

  • Can't delete photos from iPhone 5 because their iPhoto library no longer exists

I have a good deal of photos, on my iPhone 5, that were synced via iPhoto. The problem is, the iPhoto library, they were synched with, no longer exists becuse, the hard drive that held them, crashed. I replaced the hard drive but, of course, when iPhoto is launched, there are no albums to un-select or delete and I'm stuck with not being able to delete them directly from the iPhone.
Short of erasing the iPhone, is there a way to delete these "lost in limbo" photos?
    Thanks!
    Teddy Alfrey

    sberman,
Your first suggestion would be a good one; however, I don't have a backup of my iPhoto library. I'm using a MacBook Air with a very small hard drive and stored, nearly, everything on externals. That is, everything but whatever drives my iPhoto library. Since the only thing I use iPhoto for is syncing photos with my iOS devices, I wasn't particularly concerned with backing it up. I wasn't aware that these photos would be impossible to delete, otherwise.
Moving forward, I will look into externally storing my iPhoto "stuff."
I find myself wondering why the photos are locked down, to this degree.
    Thanks for responding sberman!

  • How can I delete photos from my phone

how can I delete photos from my i phone after synching w/ my macbook (i photo)?

If what you want to do is just delete a picture, just touch the trashcan while you're looking at the photo on your phone.  On the other hand, if what you want to do is delete all the pictures from the phone after you transfer them to your computer, there is a checkbox on the screen when you transfer them into iPhoto asking whether to delete the selected pictures from the camera.

  • How can I transfer photos from a memory card to my compter with the hp 8600 ?

I can't transfer photos from my memory card to the computer. It only gives me the option to print them.

Do you have this printer connected through a network? (wireless or ethernet)
Is this computer you are using a Windows PC?
If so, try the steps in the thread located here.

  • How do I get iPhoto to delete photos from my SD card?

There was a time when I uploaded photos from an SD card into iPhoto, iPhoto would ask if I wanted to delete the images from the SD card after the upload finished. That is not happening any more. I have been through all of the iPhoto preferences and don't see anywhere to select an option to delete photos after an upload is done. I seem to remember there being a check box in the photo upload window I could check to indicate to delete the photos. I am not seeing that check box any more when I upload photos.
I would prefer to delete the images through iPhoto than to use my camera to reformat my SD card.
    I am using iPhoto '11 9.4.3 (720.91)
    Thanks,
    Paul

Trashing the plist file will restore all options to the factory settings, so you should be asked again. That said, it's not wise.
Never let your computer erase data without you first checking that the data is safe. Specifically never use iPhoto (or any other app) to delete the photos from your Camera Card. Disconnect the camera, check the transfer has gone correctly and then use your Camera to Reformat the Card. This has three advantages:
    1. You know your data is safe - because you've taken the time to check it.
    2. Reformatting the card is much, much faster - takes a couple of seconds
    3. Reformatting also refreshes the Directory Structure on the Card, helping prevent issues with the card and prolonging its life.

Photo Album contains ALL synced photos and you can also view those exact same photos, not duplicates, from the albums.

how can I delete photos from my ipad that came in when I connected for the first time to my pc? HELP

Photos that were synced from your computer using iTunes can only be deleted by de-selecting them from the folder from where they were synced -  and then re-syncing.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Photos Tab on the right.
If you want to remove all of the Photos - uncheck the Sync Photos from Heading
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
If you are using iTunes 11 - this will be helpful, Setting up syncing in Windows.

If photos were synced from your computer then they can't be deleted directly on the iPad, you will need to remove/de-select them from where you synced it from on your computer and re-sync.

  • HT201302 how can i delete photos from my iphone after uploading in Iphoto even if i say not to keep on phone

how can i delete photos from my iphone after uploading in Iphoto even if i say not to keep on phone

    Hello paolo@spring,
Just as photos that were taken more than 30 days ago remain on your MacBook Air, so will photos that are deleted from your iPhone.
Photos in My Photo Stream are saved on the iCloud server for 30 days.
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to download all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically.
In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will import into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.

  • I can't delete photos from my ipad

I Can't delete photos from my iPad it's like the delete key is not active Does anyone know how to fix this

I can't seem to delete ANY photos or videos from my iPad NO MATTER what I try. And they take up 4.9GB!!! There is NO WAY in **** I have that many phgotos or videos on my iPad -- when I actually go to look at the photos/videos tere are maybe 100 photos and maybe ten videos. How can that take up FIVE GB of space????
And when I go to General>Usage>Photos and Cameras my Camera Roll, Photo Library and Photo Booth are all greyed out. I can't do ANYTHING with them.
I have no idea what's going on. I go onto my laptop and open iTunes with the iPad connected -- no hekp at all. I just want to REMOVE ALL THE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS -- such as theye are, and I STILL can't believe there are almost 5GB's worth of them -- without going through all these insane hoops!!!
There should just be a simple delete button! But when I do anything in iTunes to "restore" my iPad it warns me that I migfht have to PURCHASE ALL THE APPS I HAVE AGAIN!
This is so Windows-like I can scarcely believe it's coming from Apple. I've been to a dozen "help' pages BUT NONE SEEMS TO HAVE THE SIMPLE ANSWER -- HOW DO I ERASE ALL THE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS FROM MY IPAD??????????????
