Can I delete something from my library, yet keep it on my iPod?

I'm REALLY OCD about my disk space, and recently I decided that all my tv shows have got to go somewhere else. I want to keep them on my iPod but not on my Mac. Is there a way of deleting them and then making sure the iPod doesnt update tv shows anymore, thus leaving them on the iPod?
thanks~~

Would be best to back up your shows on an external hard drive or DVD-R or to CD-R. iPods are meant to be synced with the iTunes library, not to be used as storage and transfer devices of music and videos (although they can be).
You can set your iPod to "manage music manually" by selecting the checkbox when the iPod is synced to iTunes. Keep in mind if you ever change that setting back to autosync and the TV show or other files are not in iTunes, it will be erased from your iPod forever. If you go this route you MUST always add or delete songs manually, which could become tedious if you have 80 Gb of files for example.
Or you can set you iPod to for "Disk Use" and copy the file to the iPod using the Finder, but you won't be able to play the file.
Your best bet is to first back things up on to media such as another hard drive or DVD or CD.

i can not delete photos from photo library and onother folder contain same photo in the photo library from my iPhone 4
    thnx

Delete them the same way you put them there.  The sync process.  Deselectg the album in itunes and sync.
Photo Album contains ALL synced photos and you can also view those exact same photos, not duplicates, from the albums.

  • I can't delete songs from my library unless I'm in the bulk "music" tab. This will cost me hours of time to sort through. Help!

I used to be able to delete songs from my library from any playlist by holding ALT and pressing BACKSPACE. Now, this only works in the bulk "Music" tab which lists every single item in my entire playlist. I have about 300 items in my playlist that need to be deleted (They are remnants of deleted files and no longer point to an existing file location). I have a smart playlist that collects all these items, and in the past I would periodically just delete the contents of that list from the whole library. Now I can't do that. I thought of trying to modify all the items under a common album title so I could find the whole group in the "Music" tab and delete them there, but iTunes won't let me modify them because they don't have a valid file path. (That's exactly the reason I'm trying to delete them! AARGH!)
The only alternative I can think of is to look up every single item individually and manually delete them one by one, which would amount to a few hours of wasted time. I'm so frustrated. I don't understand why each progressive installment of iTunes does away with features that were helpful and useful when they existed. I feel like Apple hates me.Can anyone help me?

Use Shift+Delete to remove items from a playlist and the library at the same time.

I have moved some of the photos that i want ot keep in to sub folders by trip names etc but want to delete them from the photo library without loosing them/
I have looked on line for some solution but am confused by the answers given I am using a laptop not Mac.
Most people suggest it can only be done via ITunes?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance?

If the photos that you are wanting to delete are also in your Camera Roll then you can delete them from the camera roll

  • Can't Delete Items from Music Library

I've upgraded to 7.01 and can no longer Delete items from my normal music library, whether they're checked or unchecked. It used to work with the Delete Key, now that does nothing...and right-clicking on the song gives no delete option. Also, with the song highlighted, the top menu Edit/Delete option is greyed out.
In other words, I can't delete any song from my library. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
    K Culberson

If the songs are greyed out, it sounds like you're looking at the contents of your iPhone while connected to iTunes. If that's the case, you would need to do all your editing on your library (not the iPhone's contents) then re-sync the iPhone to your library.

  • MBP stuck to the spinning wheel, won't boot after deleting something from "/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist"

    Hi all,
I have a MBP 13" (early 2011) running Lion 10.7.2 and some days before, I wanted to host an HTTP server on it.  I googled and found I should turn on "Web Sharing" for this feature.  But unfortunately, it just wouldn't start.  I googled again and found a solution (I think).  I tried deleting the disable key and
    <string>-D</string>
             <string>WEBSHARING_ON</string>
from "/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.apache.httpd.plist". I couldn't save the file because it is protected.  So I tried copying all the content of the file and save it to a new file with the same name, deleted the original file, and put the new one back to the directory.  Nothing worked.  I couldn't edit the new file as well.  So I put the original file back and replaced the new one.  Then I tried to change my rights of that directory as well as the file to "Read and Write".  And I managed to edit the file!  I deleted the mentioned sentences and saved it.  Then I tried turning Web Sharing on for about a hundred times, but never succeeded.  So I turned off my MBP and slept.  OK, the next day when I decided to try again, I found the machine won't boot!  It got stuck to the grey screen with Apple logo and a spinning wheel permanently.  Every time I needed to hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off.  I've tried SUM (command-S) and ran fsck, no problems were found.  I also tried the method from http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20809 , but still couldn't get past that grey screen.  Cannot boot into safe Boot also.  I don't if it is a problem related to the alias of that file because I had deleted it and put it back.  Please help.  Many thanks.
P.S. If can't solve it, should I bring it to Apple Store and ask for Genius?

    Hi,
Yes, I did resolve it - it was the graphics card. Changed that, updated OS X and it was done.
I can't now remember exactly which card I used, and I'm away at the moment so I can't get to the infomation, but I do remember that it was a full length card with a large heatsink, and was a bit of a pig to squeeze into the chassis!
Had to buy an adaptor for the second monitor connection, but that didn't cause any hassle. I got the card and cable from the local Apple Store.
It also theoretically needed a later version of OS X than was already there, but since it allowed me to boot off the CD, that didn't matter (and it worked with the old one anyway, as it turned out).
Oh, and also of course, although it's a bog standard PC card, you have to pay way over the odds for it because it has to have different PROMS for a Mac. (Thank you Apple.)  Just part of the price we all have to pay for using Macs.
I seem to remember that there was a certain amount of dancing involved in upgrading the OS afterwards (might have had to do one step twice), but nothing that unusual.
    Hope this helps,
    All the best,
    Brian

  • How can I delete photos from my iPhone but keep them in iCloud?  I.e. I want more than just a backup of what's on my phone, I want selective storage of my photos.  Can iCloud do that?

    Hi,
Can I use iCloud as photo storage rather than just backup?  Right now, it just syncs the photos from my iPhone.  I want to delete some photos from my phone, but keep them in the cloud.
I also want to be able to adjust the settings of certain folders in iPhoto to do different things.
I.e. I have a "work" folder in my photos app on my iphone.  I want all the photos and videos in this folder to be stored in dropbox and be erased from my iPhone.
I have a "family" folder in my photos app on my iPhone.  I want all the photos and videos in this folder to be stored in iCloud and erased from my iPhone.
Finally, why can't I log into iCloud from anywhere and see my photos?  For example, when I go to my friend's house, I want to be able to log into iCloud from his computer and show him photos that are no longer saved on my phone, but rather stored in the cloud.
Would I be better off with dropbox, flickr, or Amazon for something like that?
    Thanks!
    Amy

If you have the photos on your computer a great way to test is to remove your phone from your computer and see if the photos are still on it; if they are still on your computer you are free to do so
Also when you are importing photos from the device to iPhoto you should get the option to delete after importing

  • IPad Air 2 Deletes Movies from Video App Yet Keeps Space Alotted

My new iPad Air 2 is deleting movies from the video app and leaving the space reserved in "other." When I examine this in iTunes on my Mac, the deleted movies now show their size as "stream" instead of their file size.  This is highly annoying as I keep having to format and restore, and it keeps happening and I am losing a ton of space to "other."

I'm experiencing this exact issue on two devices:
    iPhone 4S 32GB
    iPad Air 64 GB
Both while running iOS 7.03 and 7.04 (recently updated both devices to 7.04 hoping it would help. It didn't)
My iPhone had become nearly unusable until I found your post. It had apparently accumulated >12 GB of "temporary streamed content", as after I did a backup/wipe/restore, I had recovered to around 12 GB free space.
It's unfortunate that the fix requires a complete reset/restore cycle, as it's very time-consuming, but thanks for providing that fix! It saved my iPhone 4S. Now I can comfortable wait until the 6 comes out to get a new iPhone.
Really, though, this seems like a critical bug for iOS devices. I'll certainly not stream any iTunes content until/unless this is fixed. I found that if I turn off "Show all Videos" in the Video App settings, it doesn't show the iTunes cloud content for streaming from within the App. This forces me into iTunes to do a full download if I want to watch something. Kind of a pain, but it beats a device that's maxed out on storage and basically bricked.

  • Can I delete music from iPad and still keep it on iPhone?

Both my iPhone and iPad 2 are using the same apple ID. And I do not use iTunes match. Back in the days of sync'ing via a wire with iTunes when I was setting up my iPad 2 it took all my music & videos from my iPhone which used up a lot of space, so now when I try to download podcasts on my iPad it tells me that I'm out of space.
So I was wondering how can I delete all the music & videos from my iPad and obviously still keep it on my iPhone?

Certainly you can. If you remove the music from one device, it doesn't have any effect on the other device.
You need to learn how to set up sync preferences for your device. You can use this same process for syncing any content that is store in your iTunes library.
Connect the iPad to the PC and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on all of the albums or playlists that you want to sync - or the entire library if you like.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
If you do this, you can pick and choose exactly the unique content that you want to sync to each device.

  • Hi peeps, I recently had my iPad Air replaced and it automatically uploaded all my photos back from iCloud on to my iPad, taking up an enormous amount of storage. How can I delete them from my iPad, but keep them on my desktop?

  • HT6378 How can I delete photos from my phone and keep them on Icloud?

I want to make room for more photos on my phone without loosing the photos

Use services like dropbox, Google drive or One Drive to back up your pictures and then delete it from your phone or save it to your computer.
You cant do it with icloud because, its like a sync service. if you delete it from your phone, it'll be deleted from icloud too..

  • Can i delete movies from imovie library??

where is this done?  seems simple but i can't find it....

Sorry - missed Tom's post before posting this, but here goes anyway
To delete an Event, right-click (or Control-click) on the name of the Event in the Events Library. From the pop-up menu select "Move Event to Trash". Otherwise, click on the Event and from the menu select File>Move Event to Trash. But, be aware that doing this will cause any associated Projects to lose their links to the Event clips. Projects don't contain video, but simply reference the clips in the Events (as well as containing information about transitions, titles, music and so forth).
To delete the Event permanently from your hard disk and free up space, click the Desktop outside of the iMovie window to see the Finder menus at the top of your computer screen, and then choose Finder > Empty Trash.
To delete a Project, the procedure is the same. In Project Library view (where you see all your Projects listed), right-click on the Project name and select "Move Project to Trash" - or File>Move Project to Trash. In Finder empty the Trash after doing this.
If you are looking to delete part of an Event, either whole clips or portions of clips, you have to mark them as rejected first. If you need information on the full procedure, please come back. Otherwise, check out iMovie Help and search on the topic "Delete unwanted video clips from an Event".
NOTE: All this can be found in iMovie Help (accessible from iMovie's menu).

  • My mac air does not have enough memory to hold all the music I want. Can I delete songs from my library before downloading new ones and still have the old songs there when I sync my iPod?

I have a macbook air with 60GB memory. For work, I have used up all the memory and constantly use the files, so transfering them to a different location is not a possibilty now. I have about 5GB of music on it, but would like to transfer more on my iPod classic. I would like to know wether there is a possibility for me to delete old music, get new music into its place and then sync the iPod without losing the old music from it.
    Hope I was clear enough.

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • When I delete songs from my library, it deletes it from the ipod

I dont want to keep all my songs on my computer. After I have downloaded them onto the ipod and I confirm they are there, I delete them from the library. When I plug the ipod back in, the ipod is empty. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing, and neither is the iPS; that's just how it works. The Shuffle maintains itself, aligns itself, to its playlist in the Source list. If you delete tracks from your Library then they will also, of course, be deleted from that playlist and, when you next connect it, from the Shuffle.

  • Can't delete songs from library on iTunes9 Windows

I follow the directions for deleting songs from the library but nothing happens when I press delete button. I highlight the song and press delete but don't get the next option of whether to delete it from the computer or not. Nothing happens. Any tips?

"Library" is highlighted? I can't highlight "LIBRARY" on my panel on my left side. The first thing I can select is "Music":
The reason I belabor this point, is that if you're looking at your main collection of music from the iTunes app, hitting the delete button (or right-clicking and select "Delete") should work fine. But if you're working with a smart playlist, you cannot just delete, because presence in the playlist is controlled by rules, not by adding or deleting files from the playlist. If you really want to delete from not only the smart playlist, but the entire iTunes library (and your disk), you can shift-delete and that can delete something in a smart playlist from your entire library.
