Can I dial an IP address to make a video call in iChat?

I currently connect to work using a PC and a Polycom software that allows me to:
1. Dial to a device in an IP Address
2. The software provides encryption for the video conversation
Is this something that I can do with iChat? I will like to switch to my macbook instead of using the PC. Anybody has any ideas or suggestion for a software that can do this and be compatible with mac. I called Polycom and they just told me they are not supporting Mac. Thanks!

Hi,
Welcome to the    Discussions
Re 1) No. iChat can not do this. (It does use the SIP Protocol to connect to another iChat user but the server it does this through does not connect to POTS or other SIP/VoIP services).
Re 2) Yes and No on this one. If you have a paid for MobileMe account (An email ending in @me.com can be used as an AIM valid Screen Name) you can Enable Encryption in iChat but only to other MobileMe/iChat users.
See http://xmeeting.sourceforge.net/pages/xmeeting.php From the OhphoneX link on this page http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
Google Search (VoIP apps for Mac)
Hope this helps.

    Hello,
I suggest you go back and see your wireless service provider...with a new device, you should not be having such problems and they need to resolve it.

  • How to Make a Video Call Using iChat to Someone Using MS Live Call

What do I need to do to make/receive video calls using iChat to someone who uses Microsoft Live Call (using Windows Live Messenger to register me as a contact)?
When I initially set up iChat, I selected AIM (AOL Instant Messenging) as my default messenger program. But I can't remember where I set that up. Where in iChat can I make that change from AIM to Windows Live Messenger?

If its anything like MSN you cant video chat with ichat.
The only way on MSN is.

I already try these steps but I still got the problem I can't make a video call at all or receive .

    Here som other steps you can try;
Make sure that you have an internet connection
Make sure that you have a valid Apple ID (check here: myinfo.apple.com). Note that your Apple ID  to register FaceTime on iPad 2, iPod touch, or FaceTime for Mac must be an email address. You can create a new Apple ID or make changes by visiting myinfo.apple.com and using the “Manage your Account” part.
Tap Settings > FaceTime to see that your email address is verified. If your status is saying “verifying,”; then try toggling FaceTime off and on (Settings > FaceTime OR FaceTime for Mac: FaceTime > Preferences)
Try turning FaceTime off and on again using the following (iOS: Settings > Phone OR FaceTime for Mac: FaceTime > Preferences)
Make sure that FaceTime is enabled (Settings > FaceTime.)
Make sure that the camera for FaceTime is not restricted (Settings > General > Restrictions.)
Tap Settings > General > Date & Time to check date and time are set correctly.
Make sure that you are using the correct method for calling the person. iPhone user: Use the phone number; iPad 2, iPod touch, or FaceTime for Mac user: Use the email address

  • Since i made the upgrade to mountain lion i¡m unable to make facebook video calls , i can,t see other's people webcam

since i made the upgrade to mountain lion i¡m unable to make facebook video calls , i can,t see other's people webcam

I am having this same issue on my Macbook Pro Early 2011 running Mountain Lion. I try and use Facebook video chatting as I usually would, and although the other person can see me, what I see on my end is a still picture from their webcam that is often flickering between what my own webcam is picking up, and it continuously flickers with static lines (picture an old TV getting bad signal).
Skype is also behaving strangely since I upgraded, although it's flip-flopped (Skype is not letting others see me but I can see them)
With both Skype and Facebook, audio is having no issues.

  • Why i can't make a video call in Facebook

why cant i make a video call on facebook?

Apparently TenFourFox 5.0 supports video chat on Facebook on PowerPC Macs.  I found a post from someone who no longer contributes to Macrumors, a speculation page.  But there is this Facebook page if that's what you have, where you might be able to find more info:  http://www.facebook.com/macpowerpc

  • Do i need to make specific configuration to use video call at ichat?

i am new user of ichat?
i can not make video call at ichat?
My famile they use normal PC.
how can i make it to work with AIM yahoo messenger?
    thank you...

    Hi,
In the past iChat has worked with AIM Names to AIM names on a PC using the AIM for PC app.
However this has not always been easy and AIM have just changed their App and now use Flash to get Video into the App (Making it incompatible with iChat).
Although iChat can use Jabber IDs (Includes GoogleTalk and Facebook IDs) and in iChat 6 Yahoo names these only work iChat to iChat.
About 3 or 4 years ago it did seem that the major players were all moving towards a standard way of doing things.  (it did look a long way off though)  However more recently they have moved away from each other again.
You may find Skype is a better option across Platforms (Mac to PC) or using sites like MeBeam
These needs Flash to be enabled in your Browser
Type a room name in the text box on the site.
It will take you to that "room"
Copy URL of room and send it to Buddy and they will join you in that room.

  • How to Make A Video Call (without FaceTime) from iPhone 4?

I would like to make a video call from my iPhone 4 just like the way all the 3G devices nowadays do (not using the FaceTime, Fring, Tango or Skype).
I want to make video calls to other smartphones using the below facility provided by my telecom service provider :
    http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/3G/HTML/VideoCalling.html
The above feature charges a nominal amount for the video calls, and does not require any data to make the call, and they are also quite good in quality.
Also, when my friend calls me using this feature from his Nokia C7, he gets the error "The mobile phone you are trying to make a video call to, does not support it"
For the record, I'm using iOS 4.2.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After the skype 5 headache which many users are experiencing, I just found "" vtok "" in apples app store.
It supports VIDEO and CALL over wifi AND 3G !!  It does work fantastic and is FREE.
BUT you would have to set up a free "Google mail" address to get it to work.
It's painless and is a great option.
    Amen

  • How to make a video call on a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge?

I have a new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge and have been unable to make a video call.  The settings are set to allow it but I am missing something.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    That's a great feature and phone Skydiver13!
To turn HD Voice and Video Calling ON, you can go to Apps> Swipe to tap Settings>Tap Advanced Calling> Tap Advanced Calling again> Tap the Advance Calling Toggle to turn ON.
To make video calls, you can go to Apps> Contacts> Select a contact> Tap Call icon> From Active Call screen, tap Camera. (The caller will have to accept the change to a video call).
