Can I do a complete restore from time machine to get rid of Itunes 11?

I know this might be a stupid question...and I also know it might be complete overkill but I absolutely hate Itunes 11 and I desperately want to go back to the previous version. I always back up to an external hard drive once a week using time machine. Time machine make a complete backup of my system. Since I am not so computer literate I was wondering if it would be easier for me to just completely restore to my previous backup, 1 week before i installed itunes 11. I have read over the forums and there seem to be other ways of doing this but it seems really complicated. i realize I will lose everything from then until now but I am willing to do that if it's easier....any thoughts??
Any help would be much appreciated...

oh...totally forgot to reply....
yes the restore worked, but after that i had to import all songs, tv shows and movies into itunes...took hours....
but otherwise, no problems. i would suggest to export your playlists before and import them after the restore.
otherwise they are gone.....
but i am really happy to have 10.7 back...11 is really buggy even after 11.01 they still didnt fix
these bugs....lucky i have a macbook, to try....in future i will always do the updates on the macbook
to avoid these stupid and time consuming surprises.
i am now on mac for abt 1.5 years, and this is the worst i have seen them doing....hope they will fix this soon.

  • Restored from Time Machine now some songs in itunes not authorised to sync

I started using Time Machine recently (2 to 3 weeks ago). Everything was working before, including my iTunes library. No authorisation issues, no syncing issues to my iphone or ipad. Last night I did a full restore from Time Machine backup and now I get authorisation warnings on some old songs in my itunes library, telling they will not sync to my iphone. The Apple ID it's using is an old one and I no longer have access to the email address. If there weren't any problems before the backup how can there be after the restore. Shouldn't the backup be an exact copy of the HD?

I did the restore from the most recent backup in Time Machine after booting from the Snow Leopard install cd. (The reason I needed to restore is because I was planning on selling the computer but then changed my mind. Stupid, I know).
The thing is, everything worked without any problems before I started using Time Machine.

  • After a full restore from Time Machine, I get "error code -6584" when trying to go into TM.

I took our iMac in, at the direction of Apple, to have the hard drive replaced. When we got it back, I restored from Time Machine (on Time Capsule). One file on the desktop, a spreadsheet file, has reverted to a version five months old, with the loss of considerable data, so I don't know which files I can now trust. Also, when I try to go into Time Machine, I get "error code -6584" and am unable to access my backups
This is potentially very very bad. What can I do?

    Solved:
sudo chflags 0 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chown 0:80 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chmod 775 /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"
sudo chmod -N /Volumes/"FCP Time Machine BU"

  • Can a deleted email be restored from time machine

An email I recieved had vcards that I was working with.  I went to delete a vcard from the email and the email completely disappeared.  I have looked everywhere and cannot locate it.  Can it be retrieved from time machine or some other way?

Open your Mail Application / Enter Time Machine / Go back until you find that e-mail /
Select it and click the restore button.
Do the same with your Address / Contacts Application.
Otherwise, go to: User / Library / Application Support / Address Book
Replace that folder with an earlier one from your Time Machine backup.
Do the same with your Mail: go to: User / Library / Mail

  • I lost a video in iphoto.  When I restore from Time Machine I get a thumbnail that says the file fork doesn't exist.  How do I get it back?

I shot a video on my iPhone.  This got downloaded into my iPhoto during a sync.  It has been there for months and worked fine.  Recently the video was accidently deleted and the trash has been emptied.  I just popped open Time Machine and went back and restored my iPhoto from a back up.  It appeared to restore the video as the thumbnail reappeared where it had been before.  BUT, when I click on it, I get a message that says "the file fork does not exist".  I was also restoring a couple of pictures as well and those restored fine.  How do I get this video out of time machine with a working file fork?

How did you restore your library from Time Machine?  Did you go into your Pictures folder and then enter TM, go back in time to find the library you want and use the Restore button?

  • 17" not getting past boot after complete restore from time machine

I have a 17" 2.5ghz mbp with 4gb of ram. Last week it would only boot up in safe mode and after running the apple hardware test it gave me the nvidia graphics card error code. I took Otto the apple store and they sent it in to have the logic board replaced. I got it back Friday working fine, but they had installed a clean install of osx. I used the time machine to restore my user settings but it did not restore my applications or photos. So I reformatted the HD with a snow leopard disc and once I had done that I plugged in my external HD with time machine on it and proceeded with doing a restore from my last restore point. Once that had finished and restarted it got stuck at the boot screen with the circle with the line through it. I restarted it in safe mode and everything is fine, I then ran the hardware test and nothing came up.
    Any ideas?

Just a thought... my husband's MBP 17" hard drive crashed last month. Personally, I think it was a lemon drive since DH never moved it from our home office -- and his desk's flat surface -- where he worked all the time. On the other hand, I have a MBP 13" that gets moved all over the house, stuffed into a case and carted out-of-town, and used by our kids! yet still tolerates the abuse nicely!! (I know, I just jinxed myself there, most likely!)
We bought both of our MBPs last summer, and OF COURSE when we took his to the Genius Bar to have them take a look, it was only TWO DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY! ARGH.... But!!!! Since it was still sooooo close to being in warranty, they graciously honored it and replaced the HD for free!!! Yay Apple! Now it's working beautifully!!
Interestingly... when I was first trouble-shooting his "circle/line only boot-up," I read in one forum that some of the 17" MBPs sold via retail from early to mid-2009, MIGHT have been sold with questionable HDs... hmm... but, Apple didn't find this out until complaints started coming in... I cannot find that particular forum now... argh again... and the Genius at the Bar said he had not heard of that happening... soooooooo..... no solid evidence here, but anecdotally, an interesting thought.....? Good luck!

  • HT201250 How to do a complete restore from Time Machine

My MacBook Pro is giving me all kinds of problems.  I have a complete backup on TimeMachine.  How do I do a complete restore of everything?

I'm Assuming this is going to fix things!  Sure make sense.  The backup is just going SO SLOWLY.  as in a few Kb  when there's 300GB total.  The last backup was Oct 4, so I'm hoping that's the issue.  But also, if verify disk says disk is corrupt and needs repaired, maybe it won't do a complete backup.  I'm going to let it backup overnight and see if it's done in the morning before restarting in "Recovery HD"  You've been very helpful so far. Thanks SO much.  I'll add more when I've been able to follow your instructions.

  • After restoring from time machine, I get a screen with an apple, my user icon, and sleep, restart, and shut down options. When I click on my user icon, nothing happens.

    Any suggestions?

Run through the list of general fixes here, perhaps one or more of them will get things to work again.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
If not you can likely retrieve your files this way, if they are not encrypted,
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
then use Step #20 in the above link to reinstall everything and return those files
Think about having alternate backup and restore options to avoid this type of issue.
When TM fails to restore properly, it's a royal mess to fix as you can see.

  • System Restore from Time Machine Back up and Mail

    Hi
I have around 16,000 Messages in my Mail 3.2 Inbox. I use Gmail IMAP service. One thing I like about Mail is that next to all my messages there are these arrows that indicate whether I have replied to or forwarded a particular message and clicking on them takes me to my response to a particular email.
I need to reformat my MBP HD and want to do a system restore through Time Machine.
My question is, will Mail return to my current state (with all the arrows and tags) after I do the complete restore from Time Machine.
Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Cheers!

I replaced the internal because I need more space, I'm not an expert, but I've done it before. I wasn't having trouble I was just running out of room and decided to upgrade?
Ah, ok, that rules that out.
I think it wasn't backing up because it was showing I had files on the external but I couldn't locate them. It's my understanding that the external must be blank to back your computer up with time machine.
No, it doesn't have to be empty (although Time Machine works best if it has its own, exclusive space).  Without the error message(s), we don't know what is/was wrong.
I have run the Verify Disk on the internal and it says its all good.
Ah, good.  That means you don't have directory problems.
I have not run a Repair Disk Permissions. I am not sure how to do that? Is that also located in the Disk Utility.
    Yup, same window, different button.
I tried to just run the update from the update software option in the apple on the top left. I also then ran the combo that I downloaded from the apple site.
With what results?  Did they compete?  If not, what message did you get?

  • 3 days to restore from time machine?

Has anyone done a complete restore from time machine? Hw long did it take?
I started a restore from tme machine which said it was 465gB. When it started it said 72 hours. Does that's hound right? 3 days to do a restore?
I read where time machine will check memory and hard drive before it restores, which may add more time, but as I think back to the pre-time machine days, it would be 8 to 12 hours for a secto check of my HD, then maybe, if memory serves me, another 8 to 12 hours to use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to transfer all the data back. A few months after I went to Time Machine I stopped the CCC or SD backups, only using them for new system upgrade. Now I have been relying completely onTM. It has saved me well in finding things from times past, but this is my first time doing a restor from Mountain nLion Restore.
My computer is connected directly to my time machine drive via Ethernet.
If this 3 day restore is normal for 465GB HD then fine, I will wait, but if others have had it finish quicker, then I am doing something wrong or there may be other problems with my machine.
Thanks in advance for sharing your insight.

Email isn't restored from a backup like contacts and Camera roll photos.  To be sure iCloud still has your email, log into your account using a computer's browser (icloud.com) and then look at the Mail page.  Are any emails there?  If not, then you or someone with access to your iCloud account has deleted them.  Let us know what you find out.

  • How do I create a recovery partition when restoring from Time Machine?

I am planning to replace the HDD in my Macbook Pro with an SSD. I've used Time Machine to backup my HDD (running Mountain Lion) but am trying to find the best way to restore my Time Machine backup to the new SSD once installed.
Given that the new SSD will not have a bootable OS X Recovery partition, I have created a bootable OS X Recovery drive on a USB thumb drive using OS X Recovery Assistant.
In order to ensure that the new SSD has the OS X Recovery parition, should I:
         (1) reinstall Mountain Lion on the SSD then recover my data from Time Machine; or
         (2) can I simply use the Restore from Time Machine option in OS X Recovery to do it all at once.
I can't seem to work out whether option (2) will create the OS X Recovery partition on the new SSD or just recover the system partition.

Turns out the OS X Recovery partition is only created on a fresh install of OS X. Restoring via Time Machine will not do the trick.

  • Full Restore from Time Machine, will iTunes recognize my iPhone or...

    Hi All:
About ago my MB Pro was stolen. Fortunately, I had strong security settings and was diligent about backing up to Time Machine.
I am about to purchase a new iMac to replace the MB Pro, and will be doing a complete restore from time machine to recover my data. However, since my computer was stolen, life has gone on. I have purchased music from iTunes via my iPhone and also added many new contacts. Does anyone know what will happen the first time I try to sync my iPhone to my fully restored image on the new computer? Will iTunes recognize the iPhone as it was before and do a 2 way sync (new music and contacts sent back to iMac) or will it want to override all data on the iPhone and replace it with the existing contacts and music from the restore?
    Thanks!
    John

All of your iPhone data (the iPhone backup done by iTunes) is stored in your user folder's library as: USER/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. I believe some iPhone data is also stored here: USER/Library/Application Support/SyncServices. For some reason, the folks at Apple thought that this was NOT information that needed to be backed up in Time Machine.
So unless you copied and pasted the backup folder into your external drive, your migration of info from the drive to the iMac will not carry any iPhone info to the new computer.
That being said, I'm not exactly sure what the iPhone will do when being plugged in. It will probably ask if you want the phone to be associated with the user account on that iMac, and upon selecting yes it MIGHT try to send your contacts, calendars, etc. to the new iMac. I am not sure about this--if I were you I'd ask a Mac Genius at an Apple Store or call AppleCare. But the Apple Store would be your best bet. The iPhone would not be able to send music, but that's not a big deal since you have it all in the backup anyways.

Installed new hard drive and want to restore from time machine.
Get as far as 'select a destination'  then it goes no further - just keeps 'searching for disks'
    Help anyone please?

    1. Be sure your drive is attached and mounted.
    2. If you have already written any data to the drive, back it up before proceeding to the next step.
    3. In the Finder, choose Go > Utilities. The /Applications/Utilities folder will open.
    4. Launch Disk Utility.
    5. Click the icon for your external hard drive in the sidebar on the left.
    6. Click the Erase tab along the top of the window.
    7. From the Volume Format menu, choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    8. Enter a name for the external hard drive in the Name field.
    9. Click the Erase button.
Make Sure that you choose the correct drive
