Can I do a firmware update over ssh

I am trying to flash the ROM on my video card in order to get it to work. I have the binary file, and of course the instructions say click on it (of course I have no screen yet). Is there a way to run a binary file at the command line? (it's not an executable).

Hi-
For all things flashing.

  • Can't install EFI Firmware Update

    Hello,
i can't install the Firmware Update (EFI 1.1) on my MacBook (Core 2Duo, OS X Version: 10.4.10).
My System is on an GUID partition scheme.
I get a white screen after the "long beep" and after a few minutes the cpu fan start to run.
I disconnected all my peripherals but this does not work either.
    Any suggestions?

Check your Network control panel and turn off Auto-Proxy setting.
This is one of the top #4 "how can they do this' pet-peeve errors.
The other is the often slow 8 hrs to download 600MB even on 10Mb+ cable.
Another, 'the drive cannot be partitioned because there isn't enough contiguous unfragemented free space; some files are locked and cannot be moved."
If auto proxy isn't it, router/modem and DNS settings.

  • Phone firmware update over http

    Hi all,
a former colleague of mine told a customer that starting CUCM 9 phone firmware updates would happen over http and no longer using tftp. Now that customer is asking me about it, and I can't seem to find any indication there to support this. Am I not looking in the right places?
    Kind regards,
    Tom

    Hey Guys,
This definetly seems poorly documented. Although you can find a reference here that it does exists.

    Endpoint or Gateway
    Unified CM
    6970 / TCP
Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) between master and proxy servers.
HTTP service from the TFTP server to phones and gateways.
Apparently CME folks did a much better work document this. I would file a documentation bug if I were you.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeadm/cmesystm.html
HFS Download Support for IP Phone Firmware and Configuration Files
Legacy IP phones access the TFTP server to download firmware and configuration files but Cisco Unified CME 8.8 enhances download support for SIP phone firmware, scripts, midlets, and configuration files using the HTTP File-Fetch Server (HFS) infrastructure.
In Cisco Unified CME 8.8 and later versions, SIP phones use an HTTP server as the primary download service when it is configured and access a TFTP server as a secondary or fallback option when the HTTP server fails.
Note When the HFS download service is not configured, SIP phones automatically access the TFTP server.
The following scenario shows a successful download sequence using an HTTP server:
An IP phone initiates TCP connection to port 6970. A connection is established and an internal request for a file is sent to the HTTP server. The phone receives the HTTP response status code of 200, signifying that the download is successful.
The following scenario shows a download sequence that begins with an IP phone using an HTTP server to download files and ends with a TFTP server as a fallback option when the initial download attempt fails:
An IP phone initiates TCP connection to port 6970 but is unable to establish a connection. The phone contacts the TFTP server and sends an internal request for a file. The file is successfully downloaded from the TFTP server.
The following scenario shows how a download sequence that starts with an HTTP server does not always fall back to the TFTP server when the initial download attempt fails:
An IP phone initiates TCP connection to port 6970. A connection is established and an internal request for a file is sent to the HTTP server. The phone receives the HTTP response status code of 404, signifying that the file requested could not be found. Because the file cannot be found, the request is not sent to the TFTP server.
Note The configuration files are shared by the HTTP and TFTP servers. However, the firmware files are different for each server.
    Enabling the Service
To enable the HFS download service, the underlying HTTP server must be enabled first because the HFS infrastructure is built on top of an existing IOS HTTP server.
    Router(config)# ip http server
This HFS infrastructure enables multiple HTTP services to co-exist. The HFS download service runs on custom port 6970 but can also share default port 80 with other services. Other HTTP services run on other non-standard ports like 1234.
    Router(config)# ip http server
    Router(config)# ip http port 1234
The HFS download service starts when the following is configured in telephony-service configuration mode.
    For the default port:
    Router(config-telephony)# hfs enable
    For the custom port:
    Router(config-telephony)# hfs enable port 6970
Note If the entered custom HFS port clashes with the underlying IP HTTP port, an error message is displayed and the command is disallowed.
In the following example, port 6970 is configured as the IP HTTP port. When the HFS port is configured with the same value, an error message is displayed to show that the port is already in use.
Router (config)# ip http port 6970
    Router (config)# telephony-service
Router (config-telephony)# hfs enable port 6970
rror Message Invalid port number or port in use by other applicationxplanation The HFS port number is already in use by the underlying IP HTTP server.
Recommended Action Use an HFS port that is different from the underlying IP HTTP port.
Note Because IP phones are hardcoded to use port 6970 to connect to Cisco Unified CME, you must search for other applications running on port 6970 and assign them with ports different from 6970 to prevent a failure in connecting to Cisco Unified CME.
For configuration information, see the “SIP: Enabling the HFS Download Service” section.

  • Can't find 7110 firmware update

    Good morning everybody.
As title said, I have tried to find the last available firmware update for 7110, but couldn't find any.
Anyone knows where I can find them?
    Thanks a lot.

Updates for that model were discontinued many years ago (6 or 7 years ago).  It is also way too old to be supported by the nokia software updater.
A nokia care point may be able to help you if they still have the equipment to service that phone, you will have to call them and ask.
The actual firmware files cannot be given to you through this forum as they are not for use by the end user.

  • Can I undo the firmware update to airport extreme?

Evidently the update to the wifi card screwed up my connection to a dlink router. I don't have access to the router to update firmware so I'm wondering if I can install the previous firmware version?  The router see the computer and it works when I acess apple support under the restart-option command. Apple support wasn't really any help.

    Welcome to the discussions!
+Is it possible to extend a wireless network's range with an Airport Extreme (just like you can do with an Airport Express)?+
The AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and even the Time Capsule can "extend a wireless network", +but... they are only compatible if you have another Apple router as the main device.+
Sorry, but none of the Apple products would be compatible to extend the range of your Billion wireless router using wireless only. You might want to check to see if Billion has a "range extender" or similar compatible device.

  • HT204032 Can't install SMC firmware update

I'm trying to install the SMC firmware update 1.6 on a mid-2011 Macbook Air.  First downloaded it from App Store, and after restart it was stuck at a gray screen with spinning icon, no text or progress indicator-- stayed that way overnight.  Tried downloading directly from Apple, same result.  Tried resetting SMC, then installing, same result.  It won't finish instlaling the update-- any ideas?

Check your system profiler ...if your SMC is up to date it will read: SMC Version 1.4f12. If it is not and you have the first gen. Macbook (CoreDuo) then make certain that you are running 10.4.8 before you begin the update.
Make sure you are following these instructions explicitly...
To update the SMC firmware on your MacBook:
Your computer’s power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source.
    1. Quit all other open applications.
    2. Click Restart in the MacBook SMC Firmware Update window and wait for your computer to restart.
The SMC firmware update starts automatically. A status bar indicates the progress of the update. During the update your computer fans will run at full speed, but will return to normal once the update completes.
As the instructions say - you have to restart the machine via the installer. Also, you do not mention but did you have a status bar appear during the update?

  • 7.7 - Install error? Can't download iPhone firmware update

I downloaded 7.7 yesterday and got an install error, but when I opened it up, it said it was version 7.7 and had the Application menu item. So I thought all was dandy!
But when I tried to update my iPhone to 2.0, a message popped up that said I need 7.7 installed. I clicked "Update," was taken to Software Update, but of course nothing was found.
Then I thought I'd try to download it manually, but the download links are nowhere to be found on apple's site: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Any ideas? Please help! I want to get 2.0 installed before I leave for work.

You have to wait several minutes for iTunes to recognize any new iPod or iPhone after the 7.7 update. There is a major bug with the program. Apple has removed the download from their servers, which I don't think they have ever done, even with minor issues of previous iTunes releases in the past... I'm sure they are working on it and I hope to see iTunes 7.7.1 ready to download soon. You probably can't update any firmware/software until Apple fixes things...

  • How can I complet a firmware update?

I have been trying to update my airport. It works fine with the two computers closest but only intermittently with the furthest and is getting worse. It connects reliably with the imac in the same room, the laptop in the nest room but rarely with the old G450 down the hall in the kitchen. This started months ago.

Just to give you a bit more details on how to using iStumbler for troubleshooting ...
Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house, by performing a simple RF site survey. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your laptop near the AEBS, note the readings, and then, choose the locations where you will typically want to access the Internet.
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
The SNR, as measured from the laptop, decreases as the range to the base station increases because of applicable free space loss. Also an increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
If the SNR is 20dB+ at each of these locations, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your AEBS. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either the base station or the wireless clients until they are within a 20dB SNR range.

  • How can I do SSD Firmware updates on a Mini 5,3 without a CD drive

I've got a 2009 Mac Mini running OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and use the Mini's attached storage for many things- iTunes on AppleTV, backups (Retro, TM (Time Machine), CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner), File Share. I'd like to continue using the Mini that way and have the functionality of using it occasionally for other miscellaneous uses, preferably without setting it up as an actual server (using Mountain Lion Server, which I do have).
Recently, since the ML upgrade, I notice that I get connection issues, where the connecting "client" gets a message that the maximum number of its connections has been reached and no further connections can be made.
I also note that several other machines their console logs in CCC, show multiple connections to the external Mini. They do NOT seem to get dropped when a backup has been completed, or even when one is scheduled despite what the log says. Could this result in the multiple connections problem? I do have as many as four backup scripts that run at various intervals for each of three machines- that means a potential of 12 connections.
I do not have an easy way of observing the other connections with the Mini and other users
Is there any better way of managing these backups?
What are the specific restrictions to connectivity between other networked computers and the Mini via LAN?
Is there a way to monitor the connections to the Mini and pull a regular report on all its network connections?
    Henry

    Hi Henry,
The limit on Client is 10 connections I believe.
Open Network Utility>Netstat tab, also Console may help.

  • Programmer's button  and firmware update

This issue is of more general nature, at least B&Ws use similar procedure, maybe all newer Macs. An OS 9 program (firmware updater), a separate firmware image, shutting down, pressing programmer's button... I would really like to understand the mechanism.
What happens when I push the programmers button? Is it just for opening the flash for writing?
Why did my iMac G3 SL chime after the beep and before the progress bar?
Where does the firmware updater place itself and the firmware image and how does open firmware find them? Would it be possible to place them there on another computer? Why is there a requirement that the boot disk is writable? I guess this makes it impossible to build a bootable CD that could make the update?
Is it really the firmware updater that writes the new firmware into the flash? Not some ROM routine?
How does the firmware updater decide its behaviour? When first run inside the OS it initiates the upgrade, then after pushing the programmer's button it does the real job, and when rebooting again it shows the result.
Why did Apple not make a version for OS X?

Have you tried connecting an external monitor to the computer with the black screen? That will sometimes work. Some people have managed to run the firmware update, even with a black screen, by being in a completely darkened room and being able to see just enough on the screen to run the update.
There are lots of tricks for getting firmware installed here.
Below is an excerpt regarding dealing with the blank screen issue:
    39. If your iMac is booting up but you can't get a screen display then you have a few options to consider:
    40. Some people have managed to do a "blind" firmware update. First of all it will be necessary to update the iMac's OS to 9.1 (unless you already have this or a later version of OS 9 installed) and get the firmware updater onto the HD.
    41. There are different ways of doing this - e.g. take the HD out and put it into another Mac (Donna's note- to avoid a common confusion, please be aware that firmware does not "reside" on the HD at all, even though it needs to be run from the HD. For example, once your firmware has been updated, you can put a new hard drive into that iMac without needing to update the firmware again. However, this drive swapping may be a way to get the updater onto the drive and then put the drive back into the iMac and try to install the update - if that makes any sense); or if file sharing is on then you might be able to access the iMac's HD remotely for updating the OS and copying the firmware updater over; or you could try starting the problematic iMac in "FireWire target disk" mode. This allows you to connect to another Mac using a FireWire cable and have the iMac's HD appear as an external disk on the other Mac, allowing you to install OS 9.1 and copy the firmware updater over. You may also find this article helpful: Macintosh: Computer Does Not Enter Into FireWire Target Disk Mode.
    42. If you have access to software such as Timbuktu for remotely controlling another machine then this would be a convenient way of seeing the screen of and controlling the problematic iMac.
    43. If you really have no way of getting a screen display, then try putting the unpacked firmware updater in the Startup Items folder (contrary to the advice above in para. 35). Then when you boot OS 9.1 (or higher), the updater will automatically start. You will need to dismiss 2 (?) dialogs by pressing <Return>: the first is a licence agreement, and the second is the dialog to shut the iMac down. You will have to use your skill and judgement in determining when the iMac is ready for you to press Enter each time! Once the iMac has shut itself down in preparation for the firmware update you can proceed as per the published instructions.
