Can I do a full restore to move from iPad 1 to iPad 4?

my iPad 1 will not upgrade to ios 6. So I am not sure if I can do a full restore to move over all my apps and settings the easy way. Or, if I have to move them manually.

Upgrading the OS is a system wide thing. So all users will receive the upgrade.
It should not delete files and such. However, if you have for example files made with Pages '09. Then the new Pages that comes with Mavericks will make a copy of those files so you can continue to edit them. But those new files can not be opened in Pages '09. BUT again, some people perfer Pages '09 and they use that still. Mavericks will just hide Pages '09, it's still usable in Mavericks just hidden.
To be safe, make a back up of your system before doing any major upgrade.

Can't find newest backup - restoring TM backup from TC to MBP with new HD

So I bought an SSD for my MacBook Pro and am excited to get it in there, but I'm very particular about my settings, apps, data, and even my Chrome session (many tabs worth) going back to exactly as I left it when I first boot up with that new SSD. I do Time Machine backups daily to my Time Capsule and the last one was run last night at like 8pm, right before I shut down and swapped the hard drives. I booted up with my Lion DVD and went through the options of restoring data to my newly formatted SSD from a TM backup, but low and behold, the last backup that OSX was telling me was a full, restorable backup was from November 2012! What gives???
Please help, I'm really wanting to get back up and running on this SSD and to restore all of this data is going to take many, many hours

I left this one to other people to answer.. it isn't that you were ignored, but rather I just don't particularly like TM for doing full disk restores..
I am really hoping your old SSD is still available unwiped.. pristine.. unsullied??
If so, plug it into the MBP by whatever means you have.. usb, firewire.. etc. and change the boot over, to boot from the old ssd. Install superduper free version is fine.
Make an identical bootable copy from the old SSD now external to the new SSD in the MBP..

Are you going to give us any additional clues as to what you are really asking here?
1) The "HT5409" in your subject title reference implies you are dealing with AVCHD content. If true, then how did you transfer them to your iPad and how did you transfer them from your iPad to your your MacBook Air platform? As the HT409 topic clearly stated, this can be very important. In addition, how are the files stored? For instance , have you extracted the MPEG-4 AVC content as transport streams or is the content still in the device recorded file form? Are you trying to edit the content or convert it to M4V, MP4, or MOV files directly?
2) The "can i convert movies from iPad to mac laptop" part of your subject title is confusing. Yes, AVCHD files can be converted to simpler MPEG-4 AVC content that is compatible with all current and most older Mac computers and Apple mobile devices in MOV, MP4, and/or M4V file formats. However, how you do this will depend on the current form of the data and the target settings you wish to employ to ensure compatibility with the various target device possibilities. Further, non-AVCHD content (e.g., HD iPad video recordings) can also be downconverted to simpler settings in a similar manner if needed or required if that is your questing.
3) Depending on your operating system, both AVCHD and MPEG-4 AVC content should already be compatible with QT X v10.2 and v10.3 players if properly transferred to your laptop from the recording device. And, even if improperly transferred, may still be converted to useable/compatible formats as long as the file itself has not been corrupted by your, as yet, unspecified workflow.
4) What does "will not play on my mac air laptop with quicktime installed" mean here? Are you trying to play an AVCHD movie in the QT 7 player or one of the QT X players? If the latter, which one? Are you getting any error message? If so, what are they? If not playing in your main user account on the computer, does it play useing a different account? Do the files play in other, third-party multimedia players?

You need to establish if it was 1080p or 720p HD you downloaded.
If it's 1080p it will not play at all on AppleTV1 - the hardware is not powerful enough to decode 1080p h264 (or 720p above 25fps). When AppleTv1 came out most items were SD only and with time more 720p HD stuff became available. 1080p content cm after AppleTV 1 and 2 were replaced by AppleTV 3.
AppleTV2 can process but not display 1080p - it is stuck to 720p output.
AppleTV1 could only process 720p max, but could always upscale on output to 1080p!
Your iTunes Preference should determine what quality you are downloading/renting.

Many online media providers block this - Sky and Amazon Prime do too I believe.
I would have to assume that the app providers cannot offer video Airplay for contractual reasons with the movie studios though it may just be they don;t want to enable their apps to do so.
It's not Apple preventing this, while you could see it would be in Apple's interest to push people to the iTunes store for media it could also drive people away.
