can i do a hard reset form pc to iphone? my phone won't sync to itunes. i get an error saying theres not enough space, and that it's over capacity. None of my apps work, and i just wanna back everything up on my pc and restore, obviously dumping unnecessary files. i have, however already deleted multiple apps and photos and it hasn't helped. it doesn't seem to want to do a hard reset either which i think would allow the device to recognize the free space.

How can I do a hard reset without losing app data?

I have international texting on my phone and it's having an issue sending images to my friends overseas. The words go through but no media.
I have Verizon's More Everything plan and after two days trying to get this sorted on their end, they want me to try a hard reset and test the texting before I restore my backup to see if it's something in the phone.
the last time I had to do this I lost EVERYTHING regarding data in my apps. Some of the apps I have now I cannot afford to lose the info stored in them.
I need to make sure that I can restore safely once we are done with the troubleshooting.
If I have to manually put my items back in, HOW can I do that with the apps I really need the data preserved?
FYI - ALL my settings for iMessage are correct.
My international friends are not using iPhone AND I checked my settings there and they too are correct.
So, before I go and wipe everything out, can someone reassure me with some directions and ease my worries?

Yes, but have you tried the Reset function on the ATV(Settings>Genereal>reset)
You will have to connect the device to your computer with a micro-usb cable and put the ATV in DFU mode(hold menu and play button down for 7sec) It should show up in iTunes then. Click restore, it will download and install the latest software(5.0).

Screen zoomed can't undo with hard reset or full restore!

I was playing with a particle App and the screen zoomed. It zoomed back but then zoomed again and froze - I tried resets, hard resets, and finally full restore (iOS 4.1) and it still starts up looking normal then suddenly without touching the phone, the screen zooms and you cannot pan.
Is this a hardware failure of some kind? Has anyone experienced this before?

These useless 'quick buttons' are VERY annoying (2 unitended taps with 3 fingers or 3 unintended clicks with the home button etc.)
Maybe we have people around us that know these tricks, and play games with us, but ....I already restored my phone twice for a perceived VIRUS.
1st time all remained in photo negative (press home button 3 x which I did not know). Lost all my data and the iPhone remaind in negative until someone gave me the 'code' to resolve this. (Really looks like something is wroing: who would want 'negative' as a homebutton feature...?
Then this 'unresolvable' zoom occured today which made me sick and restore. Until I read this forum.
Apple used to be the ultimate 'user friendly' 'foolproof' company, and we all might be fools, but who the **** would want to have a MEGA zoom feature that disallows any operation of your phone and remains even after a restart?!

Hard Reset Question on 2G iPhone

Has anyone done a hard reset with totally skipping the "slide to power off"? It happened to me today.
My 2G iPhone was acting wierd and not letting me unlock. It was responding to me tapping on numbers, but the 4 spaces for the password were staying blank. So I did a hard reset (holding lock/home till apple logo appears). I was holding for like 8-10 secs, I then see fading horizontal lines, which then brings up the apple logo.
So 2 questions:
Has anyone skipped the "slide to power off"?
The fading horizontal lines, is this normal?

Yes, a "reset" of the iPhone is where you hold the sleep/wake and home buttons for ~10 seconds, ignoring the slide to power off prompt, and keep holding until the Apple logo appears. That's normal (and in fact, not a bad idea to do once in a while, as it clears out the caches and corrects problems with crashing apps).

My estranged wife installed K9 web protection filter on my Ipad 2 (Verizon version) and iPhone 4s (Verizon). I do not know the passcode but need to reset both devices to factory default, wiping all data. I don't need to do any backups either. I tried via settings area but it requires a passcode, due to the K9 software.

Have you tried using the iTunes app on your computer? Connect the devices by their USB cables to the computer and have iTunes restore the device to the factory settings. It should totally erase the iPad and install the latest version of iOS for each device.

The reset issue for the Symbian^3 devices are slightly different. The C6 uses a different version and should not have the same issue.
Anyway, the full reset is not something you should contemplate lightly and should only be done if necessary as it wipes all your data. So, always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
The "3 finger deep reset". With the phone powered off, depress and hold these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone using the on/off button whilst keeping the three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.
