Can I do a (new?) sync to my new MBP when "old" sync is to MacPro?

Can anyone offer links to documentation or advice on syncing my iPhone 4 to a new MacBookPro laptop when it was previously synced to my MacPro desktop machine?
I am traveling at the moment and would like to see if I can do this. For instance, I am looking at purchasing/downloading Things for the iPhone after I just loaded the CD Rom for the laptop. I'm a bit of a newbie on this stuff but is it preferable for me to download Things for the iPhone directly to the iPhone or can I d/l it to my MBP (this is easier for me). Would this require me to sync the laptop to the iPhone?
Also, I'd like to get a iTunes Library on the laptop synced to the iPhone and I'm not sure if this requires me to over-ride(?) the sync of the iPhone to the laptop.
Newbie here so any help is appreciated. Also, someone at the Mac store strongly discouraged my syncing the iPhone to the laptop so I'm a little curious as to why or if they were a bit uninformed...
Thanks!

"Can't I upload and download photos from the iPhone /independent/ of iTunes?"
You sync photos from your computer to iphone via itunes.
You import photos taken with iphone ( Camera Roll) the same way you would from any digital camera.
"1. I'd like to download the Things App for the iPhone but my iPhone is synced to my desktop. Does this mean that I /cannot/ download the app to my MacBookPro laptop? Does it mean that if I do this that I am SOL and the app just sits dead on my laptop?"
If you sync to notehr computer it will erase the itunes content ( music/apps/vids/podcasts/etc) from your iphone and replace with the content fro the new computer. You can redownload to the computer from which you ormally sync.
"2. I have music on my desktop and on my laptop and I would prefer to sync to music on my laptop. Are we saying that I can't organize my music library on my laptop because if I do it will only reside on my laptop and this won't help me create a Playlist for my iPhone?"
You can sync music with ONE computer. Put eveythig you want on ONE computer and sync with that computer.

I currently have a mbp 2.3 gighuz intel core 7 16 gig of ram with two internal hard drives ( took super drive out) which for a video editor like myself is a dream I can edit video anywhere, my question can I order a new mbp with 2 internal flash drives?

I wouldn't think so because the newer ones with Retina displays don't have an internal SuperDrive that can be replaced. Therefore the newer logic boards wouldn't have the two SATA/SATA Express connections on the logic board.
At least that was the case as of 2012. I've seen newer ones and they also don't have a SuperDrive.

    Hi, Shadiamond Murray.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the router can correct the issue that you are experiencing.  However, the issue could be a little more complex.  Wi-Fi routers need adjustments to settings periodically for optimized performance with the constant progression of wireless device technology.  Below, I have included two articles.  The first article will cover basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting regarding iOS device connection.  The second article cover the recommended settings for current Wi-Fi access points.

How do I activate my new sim in new phone when old phone is broken? The website says it should already be activated, but is isn't, and the only option it gives me to activate it is by it sending a pin number to my old phone which doesn't work. I'm stuck!!

What device are you using? Is your new sim a replacement sim? What does it say when the sim is in the device?

  • Can Firefox open a new tab when I click on a bookmark?

Can I get Firefox 5.01 to open bookmarks in a new tab when I click on them?

'''Keyboard shortcut is built into Firefox''' there is no need for an extension, but you will have to make a modification perhaps to a configuration variable.
    set the following configuration variable
    browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground
to the same value as you have for
    browser.tabs.loadInBackground
Opening links in the background with Ctrl+Shift+click or foreground with Ctrl+click
or the other way around is controlled by Tools > Options Tabs > when I open a link in a new tab switch to it immediately.

  • Can i charge my new nano with old adapter

can i charge the new nano with a old ipod nano power adapter?

thank you, is it possible to use any usb outlet charger for the nano not just made by apple, from what i heard some works but some people's ipod got fried idk
It's hard to tell for certain, but if you are going to use a third party USB AC Charger, I would check for different reviews online for whether or not they are compatible with your iPod. Just double check for input and output voltages it works with and compare it to those that your iPod Nano can handle.

  • Move library to new computer when old one is dead?

Is it possible to access my library on a new computer, when I can't use my old one? Everything I can find on how to change computers requires accessing my old one first, and I can't, because my old computer won't even turn on any more. I can't be the only one this has happened to!?!
I am an old lady and not very computer savvy, and I find the itunes site to be WAY less intuitive than I would've expected.

You either need backups from your old PC, or to be able to turn it on.
Just like any other files on your old PC - digital photos, emails you wanted saved, whatever else - if you don't have a backup, they are gone.
You can ask a PC shop to take out the old hard drive and see if it still works. Maybe the power supply is bad, but the hard drive is still good.

  • Get files from old MBP to new MBP when the old one has suffered a Logic Board failure

Recently, my 2009 unibody MacBook Pro died. Logic board failure, I am told. It is out of warranty, and replacing the Logic Board would cost a grand. It had some other issues too, so I figured upgrading to a brand new system would be the best idea. So, I am going to purchase a brand new one within the next few days. My question is this: How to I get the files from my old MBP (I NEED them, plain and simple) to the new one once I get it? Should I take out the harddrive from the old one and connect it via a SATA>USB cable and connect it to the new one? Can anyone shed any light on this? It will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, all you need is a IDE/SATA to USB adapter for about $20 online at OtherWorld Computing, NewEgg and other online computer sites like Amazon etc.
You can find the screwdriver or other torx driver at iFixit or OtherWorld, just look for your Mac model or just be rough with it and drill out the screws.
You can choose to get a enclosue and use the drive as a external drive, it will cost more naturally, but for a few bucks more though you can get a brand new external drive and likely twice the capacity.
Some external drives can't be Carbon Copy Cloner and option booted from, so perhaps a adapter is best. (don't clone a OS from another Mac to your new Mac)
    Setup:
When you set up the new Lion Mac, name the hard drive the same name as the external drive, also setup the same user name as the old Mac had. Software Update.
Install all your known third party programs from fresh sources as many as possible.
The last thing you do is connect the old Mac drive, transfer all the files from the user folders right back into their respective folders on the new drive (Music, Pictures, Documents etc) Not User/Library.
Open all your programs like iTunes and iPhoto and it will update for your files, then go through the folders and delete what you don't want.
Don't use migration or setup assitant, it's a blind copy, includes programs you can't use anymore and other headaches.
If you do things in the order I specify, your drive will be optimized and run fast for a decent amount of time.
If Lion act's glitchy, Carbon Copy Cloner to a new HFS+ Journaled (Disk Utility) and then hold Command R to get into Lion Recovery, Zero Erase the OS X Lion partition and then option boot from the Lion clone and reverse clone onto the OS X Lion partition on the internal.
You can also reinstall Lion on top of the factory Lion from the Recovery Partition.
search "apple support Lion Recovery" for details.

  • Got a new MBP and old external hard drive is too full for backup

I just got a new MBP and got all my data migrated and everything. I plugged my external hard drive in to run a backup, and it apparently is too full to run a backup of the new computer.  Even though all the files are the same (mostly), I guess it's not going to overwrite anything because it's a new computer.  Should I just get a new backup drive and start fresh for this computer.  Should I reformat my old backup drive (and if so, how?)?  Advice?

You should always have two backups of all vital data in any regard. A good 1TB Toshiba USB is $65
If there is NOTHING on the external HD you cant lose, format in disk utility > erase > format MAC OSX extended journaled.
then apply a Time Machine backup to the old HD of your new computer. That will free of a great deal of space.
However you should still have a 2nd backup of data.  2 backups is 1, and 1 is none.

  • How do you authorize a new computer when old computer died

My old computer died today. I am using a new computer and when I try to download from cloud the pop up comes up and says I am not authorized to download. How do I fix that when old computer is not working at all?

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • Sync my iPhone on a new Mac when old Pc is crashed

My old Pc crashes during à bâclions, résultat i haven't anyone. I've bought à new Mac. How can I sync my iPhone ans my iPod without looping my data, pictures & songs ?

You should copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • How do i sync iphone with new computer when old computer is unavailable?

I want my iphone content on itunes on a new computer.  My old computer crashed and is unavailable.

No backup is a big mistake.
If you sync iphone to a blank computer, then the current content will be erased.
The iphone is not a backup device.
The music and pics sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Transfer Purchases
You can e-mail the pics to yourself.  They will never be of the original resolution.
If you enter one unique contact and calendar item, then you should get the option to merge the data when you first sync.

  • After migrating to a new MBP, when saving or opening documents, I sometimes (but not always) get a warning such as: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume." Can someone please explain?

I recently migrated from a MBP with OS 10.6 to a MCB with OS 10.8. Some glitches are popping up. Here's the one on my mind at the moment:
When saving or opening documents, I get a warning such as: "Word cannot save this document due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume." Can someone please explain?

Since this is isolated to a single file, try exporting it to Interchange Format (.inx), then open and save the resulting file as a new InDesign file.
Since the problem occurs during export, that may not be possible. Another option to try would be to copy all elements, page by page, and "paste in place" into a new document the same size. If you used layers, be sure to enable "paste remembers layers" in the layers panel menu.
This kind of problem is often indicative of an underlying font issue. You said there are only three fonts, and you should verify that in Type > Find Font... Try replacing, at least temporarily the fonts in use with something else that you know to be reliable from other documents. You might want to do this before the other steps.

  • I can't open a new tab when I right click the refresh button; same goes when I click on History and right click a past site. How do I fix it?

It happened after Mozilla Firefox's plugin crashed. Whenever I tried right clicking the refresh button or a page in History, it no longer prompted me to "open in a new page." Instead, the box showing the menu bar, navigation bar, etc. showed up. How do I change it back?

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.
