Can I downgrade my iPod Touch prior to 4.2.1 so Facebook App will work?

Does anyone know if it is possible to downgrade a iPod Touch IOS lower than 4.2.1?
Since upgrading to 4.2.1 Facebook won't operate as FB have updated their iPod App and it doesn't support IOS 4.2.1.

Agreed. It would be trivial for Apple to keep copies of the older version of a piece of software for older devices. They know what version of the OS you use and it would be trivial to only allow you to download the older version. I would imagine there are a few reasons they don't:
Liability.Sometimes, apps update the version because of bugs or security flaws. Keeping an old version which only works on older devices may sound like a good idea, but it's a whole lot simpler not to support it.
MoneyApple doesn't want you to keep your old devices. They earn less money when you're not buying new things. They have little business incentive, other than keeping customers who don't buy as much hardware happier for longer.
Complexity and consistency.It makes the download experience inconsistent. If your friend downloads an app and you download the same app, you expect similar experiences... most people don't think about version numbers. Also, if facebook advertises a feature and you download the shiny new app only to find out that it doesn't work... you'd blame the developer or apple... not your device.
That being said, it would be nice to have the feature to see previous releases in the store. A note like... "This app is not compatible with your device, but an older version is... click here to download that one"

IPod touch: need to restore to previous update so it will work again on mac computer

iPod touch:
- my iPod has always been used with my desktop iMac computer, which has iTunes version 9 currently installed. It is updated to it's latest possible update, so I am assuming it is not compatible with the latest, iTunes 10.
While working on a PC computer at work yesterday, I accidentally okay'd an ipod update/install in where my iPod now cannot be opened on my home Mac computer. It says it requres itunes version 10 to run it, yet my computer is currently up to date with only iTunes 9.
Please help! .. is there a way I can restore my IPod back to the latest previous update so that it will still work on my Mac?.. will this require erasing all the data??..

I have since restored my ipod completely, erasing all content and restoring it to it's original settings.
I had to do this on the pc computer, as it still will not open/recognize on the Mac that I want it to work on.
I plugged the restored ipod into the Mac and got the same response-- needs iTunes 10, my computer will only update up to 9.2.1.
Besides the obvious 'time to get a new computer..', is there anything I can do to restore the ipod touch back to a previous software version?? This is frustrating!

I tried turning the iPod off and on again, but that made all my apps behave like that. Settings and those things work fine still. Should this suddenly happen? I dont want to lose all 204 apps.

- First try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Next try downloading/installing a new app
- Restore from backup
- Last, resore to factory defaults/new iPod. this is last result since you will lose app data.

IPOD touch SERIOUS Issue. Who has they're apps not working in 2 days?!

Ok so i just got my ipod touch xmas day. Right. And well yesterday i was listening to music and my sister exited it and then touched a app and then all the sudden the app shut it self off right away! like what the heck. Anyways, so i went to the Apple Store, and both of our ipod touches ironically had this same problem.
And so we go in there ask the man and he was like oh usually the problem is when your touch will logout of your email and forget you pw so i wont open up. So we try that and it doesnt work and then he goes in and is like well this is rare. Like WHAT? have you seen this disscussion form? RARE?! excuse me i think not. AND if it is so rare then what in the world would be the chances of my sister and I get this "rare" problem all the sudden. So he says oh restore your ipod yeah we did and we did all that crap it didnt work. I am SO outraged i had it for only 2 days i mean COME ON. I think Apple has a serious problem on their hands and they better find out how to fix it. I want to sue im so angry. The funny thing is they don't think this is a big problem hahahha, well we will see about that. Who else here thinks this is not right?!

hiya.. i had exactly the same problem and after spending hours reading the forum etc i eventually found somethin, tried it and it worked. if its apps u have downloaded from the app store here's what to do:
1) delete the apps from the touch (press and hold the app icon until it wiggles then tap the "x" and confirm deletion.
2) load up itunes on your computer (without conneting the touch) go to applications and delete the apps in there too
3) on itunes go to "store" menu at top the de-authorise your computer, close itunes and reload, then authorise the computer again.
4) download the apps u want from the store onto the computer
5) connect touch to computer to re-sync
6) once touch re-sync complete, go to applications tab (library bit) and make sure the "sync applications" tick box is ticked, the apps will be syncronised onto touch.
that should work, i tried everythin possible before this, restartin, resettin, master reset, absolutely everythin and this actually worked, i was rather impressed.
i think if ur gonna download apps its best to download on computer and sync to the touch, it would prob prevent this happening again

I know there is a way, but the website to download the firmware and restore it in a different ios is shut down. The reson for this is that my computere for some reason will not download the latest itunes. It goes all the way through the download until the very end, and then it says "Invalid drive E:". So i have no way of working with my ipod on the computer. Is there any other way of getting the ios 6.0 firmware. Please help. I would appreciate it.

Your issue is with your computer... not your iPod.
Try and resolve your computer issue.
