Can I downgrade to ios5

Hi,
I use my iPad2 maps with street view quite frequently, and the upgrades from ios6 don't make up for the lack of maps functionality on the iPad2. Is there some way that I can downgrade. This should have been made clear to iPad2 users...maps are kind of important and the new Apple maps don't function properly. I can't even use Google maps in Safari with street view. What can I do to remedy this?
Thanks,
Kim

I am completely with you, and feel very frustrated that I can't revert to iOS 5 on my iPad. The new iOS 6 maps have one very clear disadvantage for me - the hugely inferior detail on the satellite maps. The view pixelates about 3-4 magnifications above Google's version, making it impossible to see any detail (I am in the UK, perhaps this is not the case in the US?). This was a function that I was using frequently to view land and properties for potential investment, something which made the iPad invaluable. I understand the Apple desire to distance themselves from Google, but in the end this is just like the spat with Adobe - something they should rise above in the name of their customers.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • How can i downgrade to iOS5?

iOS 6 disapointed me and i wish to downgrade to iOS 5. I never thought to say this about apple software, but im really sad with this iOS.

All we can say in this Apple forum is that downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPhone

  • How can we downgrade to iOS5?

I upgraded my iphone 4 to iOS6 and it's slowed my phone completely.  I'm told we cannot downgrade?  I seriously regret pushing that button.

Apple and Google have always had a strained relationship since the release of Android.
Yes, at the moment the maps App is poor, but then I'll bet my life on that when Google Maps was released it wasn't much better.
There is an official YouTube app on the App Store and you can still use Google Maps via Safari, going to maps.google.com
This question keeps getting asked, over and over again. It appears that some just want to ***** and moan about it here instead of searching the community and seeing other suggestions to the problem.
You're right, this is a technical help user-lead forum. Other than suggestion the other options to the maps and YouTube issue there's nothing else that can be suggested, the iOS is working as it should. Apple removed the apps in favour of putting their own on.
And as for "I'm sure Apple guys read this" this is no way to say that they are, or that they haven't tried to help you with the issue. They'll be on here, however, as users and not Apple employees. I'm sure that they'd get a very big telling off, and possibly risk their job, if they identified themselves as Apple employees.
If you want to moan that iOS 6 has ruined your iPhone experience and you are contemplating moving to crappy Android then go to their feedback page so that they get the message.
As for the adds, these aren't added by Apple, these are added by the app developers. They probably get a nice sum of money from the advertisers and therefore can either offer their apps for free or at a reduced price. There are plenty of Android apps that are flooded with adverts!

  • How downgrade to ios5 due to ios6 is poor?

i have 4s and just upgraded to ios6 through wifi a couple days ago.
i found that ios6 is poor esspcial apple map. i've got lost today because i followed the map that it suggested to me. (~1mile far away)
Further more, i found that ios6 consumpts more resource rather than ios5 because sometimes i get lag in some application eg. App Store.
i'm feeling that ios6 is designed for iphone 5 but it's not a proper OS for 4s.

  • Can you downgrade back to IOS5.1.1

I downloaded IOS6 but now its saying after i cant use it cause im not registed and i dont wanna pay for the year so how can i downgrade back to IOS5.1.1 cause the iphone is coming up on itunes but sending me a link asking me to register i have but still says the same

All you have to do to downgrade is plug in your device into iTunes and click restore. Let it do it's thing and you'll be back on 5.1.1. And if that doesn't work. Just search on google for its 5.1.1 for your device and download it. And after that shift then click on restore and browse for your the 5.1.2 firmware (for windows) and Mac use (alt) and click restore. Hope this helps cause I'm sure everybody with an apple device has done so,etching crazy like him so stop judging the man. Or woman.

  • Why can't w have the YouTube application in iOS6?  Can I downgrade to go back to iOS5?

I upgraded to iOS6 yesterday only to find my favorite app gone!  Youtube was dropped in facvor of what?  Nothing!  Can I downgrade to iOS 5 again, so I can get it back?
Editorial comment: Apple need to learn to play with others better.... I went away from Apple products once before because of this type of behavior and after receiving the iPad as a gift @ one year ago, I was feeling better about their products until this latest move which makes me weary of their anti-customer practices.  Any marketing person would have learned in their first day of customer research how many iPad owners used Youtube.

  • Downgrading to iOS5

I read someone saying he or she downgraded to iOS5 and then upgaded again to iOS6. With a host of problems like wifi connectivity (not at home but ok at workplace), e-mail sending, you tube missing, apps and books store going blank etc, I would rather live with iOS5.  Can you please let me know how to get back to iOS5? I will be grateful.

There is no 'legal' way to downgrade. It's not supported. I suppose you may be able to if you jailbreak your device, but once you do that you void your warranty. And if that's how it's being done, no one here can help you with it.

  • Downgrade to ios5

I desperately need to downgrade to iOS5 for a number of reasons.
    1. Paid for apps are no longer working. Apple took their cut of the money I paid so they should help me use them by letting me go back to ios5.
    2. Gmail no longer works in the mail app.
    3. Maps are extremely vital to me and the UK ones are simply terrible. I was late for a football match yesterday as maps could not find the ground. Never had this issue with Google Maps. I could not even use the aerial view to try to find it as that area was in worse resolution than if it had been drawn by a four year old with a crayon.
    4. Chrome no longer synchs with my desktop version.
    5. Battery life means that getting the train to work leaves me with around 50% battery so now have to carry my charger everywhere.
Does anyone at Apple test these things in the real world? All the secrecy that they put into their releases means that they never get tested by real people in the real world. If I had tested it I would have found the above problems very quickly and pointed out that releasing in that state would annoy more people than being able to like apps on Facebook would please them. I bet the Facebook integration was tested heavily though!
I also see that an explanation for the shockingly bad maps is that it is still new and users can input it. That's fine Apple. You rake in millions, replace a good map system with an awful one and then ask us to improve it. Presumably for each update someone makes, we will get a cut of the profits? Do British Airways sell flight tickets on the basis that every passenger needs to help the pilot find the destination?
Final bit of my rant. Do not advertise as having location services in the UK. I tried 3 searches - my football team was placed in a row of shops in the wrong town, a request for my nearest pub showed ones 1.5, 1.8 and 2.6km away despite there being two within 100 yards that were ignored and the most prominent restaurants in my town do not exist.
I moved to Apple at the iPhone2 and have had all up to 4s. Unless I can downgrade to ios5, my next upgrade will have to be away from Apple.

As i Heard there is no any official way to downgrade any of the apple devices. so sorry for this.

  • How can i downgrade my iPad 1 to iOS 4?

I see there are other posts on this where everyone responds saying to Google how.
Well the method to do this with TinyUmbrella only works if you have saved your SHSH blobs before you upgraded. And for the record nothing about downgrading requires jailbreaking. And it's not risky to try whatsoever.
I didn't save my SHSH blobs before only recently upgrading the iOS version, even after learning my lesson with my iPhone 3G when an update to that rendered it so slow it became an expensive paperweight.
Now I have an iPad 1 which is a piece of hardware that will last for many years to come. I don't need another iPad what I need is for the hardware I paid for years ago as an "early adopter" to work as if bloody well should do.
IOS 5 is so laggy it's ridiculous. This I beleive is done intentionally by Apple just to force people to buy more stuff they don't really need. But hey, that's progress, that's what many tech companies do.
But what I want to ask is, if SHSH blobs can be faked?
Surely a developer knows what data is required from the iPad to create SHSH blobs. Since they're unique to each device surely someone who knows enough about Apple firmware and software could fake them and then downgrading would be possible.
So is there anyone here who knows if it can be done and if so how?
If no one on here can help, could I go to an appointment with one of those "geniuses'" in an Apple store and have them do it?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

It can be a bit annoying that we can't downgrade either iOS like going from 7 to 6 or downgrade any apps, specially if the update app you downloaded is not what you expected. It can be unfair and wrong. Some of us may look at either an iOS or an app, and like it, download it, then later when we do the update, we sometimes find the next version had changed too much and is not what we wanted in the first place.
It is not easy when it comes to iOS, but when it comes to an app, you can have two options, never update if you're really happy with the current version, or update only direct to iPad but don't sync to iTunes. Try out the app and if it is not what you paid for, you can delete it from iPad as long as you have not updated the app in your iTunes library, and sync the earlier version from iTunes back to iPad.

  • IOS 8.1 Affects WiFi on iPad Air - can't downgrade

    Hello all,
I just got a warranty replacement iPad Air the other day that came with iOS 7.1.2 on it - worked well, but, of course, I was pressured to update to iOS 8.1. After doing so, on a "brand new" iPad (did not restore from backup), I've noticed that all the apps I use to stream video, whether it's cable TV over WiFi (via InstaTV Pro), streaming video from my desktop (via Air Video HD), Netflix, or Amazon Prime, I've noticed a significant amount of stuttering, re-buffering, and other anomalies that didn't occur on iOS 7.x.x. This is about as pristine as an iPad can get - I guess maybe I should not do an in-place upgrade and just do a "clean/tethered install" via iTunes? I was worried of exactly this happening, after prior reports that iOS 8 messed with WiFi.
I'm aware Apple stopped signing iOS 7, so I can't downgrade, but... what gives? Do I need to ask for another replacement iPad and just not upgrade to iOS 8? I've had similar WiFi problems on my iPhone 5s after upgrading as well - my daily routine doesn't change much, so when things that used to work flawlessly now consistently produce errors, I start to wonder.
I'm also super-frustrated because the current vertical integration platform that Apple offers has gotten *more* buggy with the new releases of everything, not less. After the 11th version of iTunes, 5th version of iPad, and 8th major version of iOS, it's simply unacceptable.
I'd appreciate any help you guys can offer - I'm a geek, so if I need to get my hands dirty to fix this, I'd be much obliged
    Thanks so much!
