How can I download emails from a web mail account into Thunderbird please
If the account can be set up with programs like TB, simply add the account, starting from File/New(or AppMenu/New Message)/Existing Mail Account. If TB doesn't detect the right settings, enter them manually according to the account provider's requirements. If the provide offers IMAP access, all of the webmail folders will be downloaded. If POP only is offered, the Inbox will be downloaded.

Can't delete emails from "read only" Mail account
I am trying to delete emails to clear hard drive space.
On one of my computer's accounts (ONLY one), the mailboxes have the heading "read only", and I can't delete emails. I don't remember selecting this setting, and I can't find it anywhere.
Can someone please point me in the right direction--how do I turn off the "read only" status of the InBox? And--is that why I can't delete emails??
Thank you!I've had trouble with JavaMail starting on July 21st. I've used the same code for months, but all of a sudden, I can't delete messages from Gmail using the DELETED flag. I open the folder as READ_WRITE, grab the messages from the folder, set the DELETED flag, double check to make sure the DELETED flag was set, then close the folder (setting EXPUNGE to TRUE). Nothing happens. No exception is thrown or message is given, and no messages get deleted from the inbox (they just remain sitting there). I've tried calling the EXPUNGE method manually after setting the DELETED flag, but then it complained that the underlying implementation could not execute the method because the message was READ ONLY!!! I'm out of ideas. I've posted on Google's forums, but every other .NET and command terminal commands seem to still be working. I'm wondering if Gmail altered their configuration to become more compliant with the IMAP protocol, and JavaMail (or its underlying implementation) is still not 100% compliant?

I have downloaded Yosemite but lost my outgoing mail settings in the process. I can still receive mail from all my accounts but cannot send any...

click preferences
click accounts tab
scroll down to TLS Certificate
click up & down arrow and select (com.apple.idms.appleid )

I can't download email from Mail 5.3 the last 2 days installed on OS 10.7.5. Then tried to upgrade to Mail 10.5.6 but get message that all my volumes are full. No they're not!! What gives?? See grab shot below.

It turns out that the photos on my iPhone only became inaccessible after the latest upgrade of iOS 7. They were not recognizable by any means of access from my mac. So...I launched iTunes and up came a dialog box asking me if I wanted to allow access to the iPhone via this computer. I clicked "Allow," and it told me to use the iPhone to allow access. I went to the iPhone and sure enough there was a dialog box asking for permission to share information with the computer. I clicked "allow" or "yes" or something like that, and for me the problem was solved. I can now upload photos from my iPhone with Bridge just like I used to. No problem. I hope this will work for other mac users.

Thunderbird was working and then for no reason it stopped downloading emails from the web server. I can access my emails in the web server okay. I have tried to remove my account and then add it again as a new account but I get a message saying that Thunderbird cannot find the email server. I have also tried to uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird but with the same result. I have also tried to remove the default mail server but have been unable to do so. How can I fix this?
I figured out a workaround.... Since I can get e-mails to populate via iSync and my other computer is running Leopard (it's a powerpc chip and can't run Snow Leopard), I added the account on the other computer and got the new account to populate into my SL machine with iSync. I don't like that I can't actually add the account directly, but at least this got me working.

In my old iPhone3 I had these accounts set up so that I could send and receive email from both accounts. I did this using the following settings:

Password: password for yahoo account

I’ve tried using the same settings in my new iPhone5, but it doesn’t work. I can receive mail to both accounts, and can send from the Yahoo account, but I cannot send mail from the alias account. When I try, it displays the message: “Cannot send mail. A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipient ‘[email protected]’ was rejected by the server”.
I’ve tried to configure the POP alias account using combinations of ‘pop.mail.yahoo.com’, ‘pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk’, ‘apple.pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk’ and ‘apple.pop.mail.yahoo.com’, for the incoming host, and ‘smtp.o2.co.uk’, ‘smtp.mail.yahoo.com’, ‘smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk’, ‘apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com’ and ‘apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk’ for the outgoing mail server. None of these have worked.
I’ve also tried setting it up using IMAP instead of POP without success. I tried configuring it using combinations of ‘imap.mail.yahoo.com’, ‘apple.imap.mail.yahoo.com’, ‘imap.mail.yahoo.co.uk’ and ‘apple.imap.mail.yahoo.co.uk’ for the incoming mail server and ‘smtp.o2.co.uk’, ‘smtp.mail.yahoo.com’, ‘smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk’, ‘apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com’ and ‘apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk’ for the outgoing mail server.
Yahoo say that if I can't send Yahoo! Mail from my mail program, I may be accessing the Internet through an ISP that is blocking the SMTP port, and that if this is the case, I should try setting the SMTP port number to 587 when sending email via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. I don't think that this is the problem, but I tried it just to make sure - without success.
I’ve also heard that the problem might have something to do with the SPF settings of my alias domain provider. I’m not too sure exactly what SPF settings are, or how to change them, but from what I can gather it seems unlikely that this is the problem given that I was able to send mail from my alias account on my old iPhone3.
Any help much appreciated: how can I get my alias account to send emails in iPhone5 mail?

PatrickA new development: I've tried sending emails from the alias several times over the past 24 hours, but in general I've deleted them if they haven't sent within about half an hour.
However, one of the messages I left sitting in the outbox did send successfully in the end, but this took about an hour.
So: perhaps my problem is not in fact that I am completely unable to send mail from my alias, but that I can only do so intermittently and extremely slowly, and by ignoring the "cannot send" message.
Any help appreciated. -
My iphoto library has become unreadable. I am wondering if I shoudl delete iphoto and reinstall? Can I download iphoto from the web? I bought my computer in February of this year. Do I have to buy a new copy?
It's probably the library that's the prolem and not the application. Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create and open a new library then your existing library is damaged.
If that's the case, Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Have you tried setting up your Yahoo account using Mac Mail instead of dealing with web based mail?
It only takes a minute to set this up.
Open Mac Mail. From the menu bar top of your screen click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Click +
Enter your name, Yahoo user name and password, click Create.
If you'd rather not do that, it would help to tell us which Mac OS X you have installed and which version of Safari in your reply. -

Why is this so? I don't have this problem prior to installing the Mountain Lion OS XHave you tried 10.8.1? It includes fixes in this area. Usually the problem is if Active Directory is returning incorrect Exchange information in response to an Autodiscover request. In 10.8.1 you can manually edit this information.

To set up your email account on your iPad go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap Add Account and add your email provider's account settings with your username and password. iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL and Hotmail email settings are automatically entered by tapping the appropriate button. Others must be manually entered by tapping Other. (Exchange accounts will also require you to enter your email provider's settings.)

Why has Mail stopped downloading messages from the web-mail server
I have several e-mail accounts that have all worked well until recently when one (tesco.net) has stopped downloading messages. I can send mail from the account ok and can see the unopened mail on the web server. I have not changed the settings and the Doctor comes up with all buttons green confirming internet connection to server. I phoned Tesco support but they say they cannot see a problem. Any advice anyone?

Selecting the incorrect folder or file
