You can download them onto your Mac's iTunes, but they can currently only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch - Apple have so far not made a Mac (or PC) reader for them.

    If you mean the books then yes, but unless they are free or from a publisher such as O'Reilly (who don't put digital rights management on their books) then you won't be able to read them on your Mac.

    Yes, but not always. IBooks are in the epub format, and your Kindle will not be able to open that format. If the book is not protected by DRM you can use the free ebook library app Calibre to convert the book to a compatible file, like .mobi, and send it to your Kindle.     What exactly are you referring to by "Adobe"? Flash Player? Reader? Something else? And you realize that no conte4mporary version of any Adobe software will even work on your 10 year old machine and the best you can hope for is using legacy versions which won't solve any of your issues (if you were hoping of watching YouTube videos or any of that)...

    Do you have a backup. If so you should be able to restore it from that. Otherwise you can reinstall OS X. See Carolyn's post in I accidentally deleted iBooks on my Macbook Pro (late 2011) running on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite. Will iBooks be reinstalled if I install the next OS X major update once it is out?

    (1) You should not need to use Windows on your Mac unless you want to do so.
    I'm unsure what a "luminex camera" is, but you can probably use your Mac's iPhoto app with it.
    Launching iPhoto and search iPhoto > Help for "import" (without the quote marks.)

    (2) You can only "download Windows"  if you have bought it from a download source.
    Once you have an usable (downloaded or disk-based) Windows installation, Apple's

    Yes, iBooks Author will on run on a Mac laptop, not an iPad. If your Mac OSX is older than the current version of iBooks Author allows, you'll be alerted to this when you try and download the app.
    On your laptop, go to the App Store (icon is a capital A in a blue circle), search 'iBooks Author', ten install. It's also a free download.
