Goto finder, you'll see your usb in there. Then open another finder window, locate the file, and just drag the movie onto your memory stick.

@shldr2thewheel, it would have been far easier if you just answered the question. He didn't state the name of it, nor where he downloaded it from. Clearly your making an assumption that it was illegaly downloaded.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

Can't create password on memory stick

Im trying to create a password for my memory stick.
Its 7.59gb.
I have tried going to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utlity. Then adding new image and selecting the following :
Size - customed to maximum, then tried 7 then 6 then 5 with encryption 256. Once I have put a pasword in and it starts saving, it then says that it can't do it as the file is too large?
Could someone please help and give me step by step guide on how to add a password?

Something doesn't make sense here. The desktop is unique to each user account, but even an account with restrictions like "Simple Finder" would not, I think, differentiate between folder creation on the desktop vs. your Macintosh HD (the default name of the boot drive on most Macs):
Macintosh HD>Users>your non-admin acc't>Desktop
Thus, wouldn't any folders or files on the desktop are in fact, on your Macintosh HD anyway.
In any case, you might want to check to see if you have inadvertently set restrictions like "simple Finder" for this account.

If the photos on the SD card are coming directly from a camera then they should be recognised. If you added the photos to the card yourself then the card needs to have a DCIM directory off its root, with the photos underneath it with filenames of exactly 8 characters (no spaces) plus their file extension.
You could try closing the Photos app completely and see if it then works after you re-open it. From the home screen (i.e. not with the Photos app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Photos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Even if you get a USB stick to work - and some do with the camera connection kit - the only protocol the iPad supports natively is the import of photos and videos. ANd you can't get photos or videos off the ipad onto a stick, only onto the iPad.
For a USB to work - and only some do - you want to avoid ones like Sandisk or Kingston that have bundled software (or take that software off it). When that software runs it triggers the 'too much power' warning. You also want to avoid ones with big flashy LED lights. That too tries to draw too much power.
Any photos or videos have to follow a strickt naming convention. Be in a folder named DCIM and have a file name of only 8 characters plus extension (DSC_2344 for example)
If you want to attempt other files, you'll need one of those expensive things and read the reviews because I haven't heard much first hand experience with them.

You can not "copy" to a memory stick - you select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export - see this user tip for details on export options) to a desktop folder and then drag that folder to the mounted, unlocked memory stick

HDR-CX6EK Memory Stick Pro

Hi. I have a HDR-CX6EK, and I use iMovie08 to import and edit my videos with my iMacG5 intel. The problem is that I dont seem to have permitions to copy files to the Memory Stick Pro when the camera is connected to my Mac vias USB... The MemStick Pro is FAT32 formatted (formatted with HDR-CX6EK).
Is there anyway that I can copy files to the Memory Stick?

Not unless it is OS X Extended, I am afraid.

Unable to write to USB memory sticks

I can't write to my memory sticks anymore. I looked at /media and the permissions for the memory sticks are 700. If I connect a USB drive, its permissions are 777 and I can write to it. I haven't been able to find anything that says how to fix this. Any suggestions?

I'm having the exact same problem right now, and I find it strange because it started happening recently, too. I can't pinpoint it, though. dmesg reports that the stick is write-protected... but it's not - it's not locked and works perfectly on other devices - my camera or a Raspberry Pi, for instance.

I use mountie and udisks, but this does not happen with my USB pendrives. I've tested with two different memory sticks. Mounting as root does not allow me to write, too, as dmesg recognizes the sticks as write-protected.
What other logs should one post to try and debug this one here? Thanks in advance!

USB 2 Memory Stick

Hi,
I have a 512MB USB 2.0 memory stick, which I have tried to use on my Powerbook.
It is recognised in the system profiler as USB 2.0, with a reported speed up to 480 Mb/sec. However, it has taken approximately 20 min to copy over 150MB of files, which seems very slow.
Is there anything I can do to get the memory stick to work correctly?

Thanks for the advice. Please can you advise how I should do this - in disk utility it only seems to format as FAT16 (even when just selecting MS DOS File System) rather than FAT32.
However, I think you have correctly identified the issue as relating to the file system. I did a test of formatting to the Mac OS Extended file system and the speed increase was extremely apparent. Unfortunately I can't stick long-term with this, because the device needs to also be readable by Windows.

Memory stick USB

Can't get old Sony memory sticks to mount anymore through card reader, since upgrade.

Launch Disk Utility and verify it still exists. You might need to reformat so make sure your data is backed up before you go messing with it. Old card readers and old card formats are problematic. Try a different card reader if disk utility no longer sees the memory stick.

Sam,
Format your stick with MS-DOS (FAT32) format. I use camera CF cards as memory stick and a good practice is to regularly format them: it deals with defragmentation effectively.
JPG is a standard, regardless of which application writes it and is readable by all applications supporting JPG.
Make sure you properly eject your usb stick when you take the it out of the usb port: it makes sure the OS closes all open files.
