Can i drag files from one computer to another

can i drag files from one computer to another

You can, if you want to transfer files between macs I advies to use AirDrop(wi-fi needs to be enabled). Use shift+command+R, this will take you to your AirDrop in finder. Do this on both computers and you should see the user of the mac where you want to transfer files to.
If the seconds computer is a Windows, you can alway use a USB Drive, External Drive, through Dropbox(install dropbox on both computers and download the files that you need on the second computer) and if the file is small even mail.

  • How Can I Transfer Files From  One Computer To Another

I was wondering if it is possible to connect two computers by an ethernet cable and share files between them. I have a wireless router but I don't want to set up a network and I am only going to use this once to put some iTunes songs on my laptop.

Yes. Look in your Window Help for "file sharing", or search the web for "Windows XP file sharing" and you'll find information and instructions. You'll probably need a crossover Ethernet cable to get your two systems to communicate.

How can I transfer work from one computer to another?

    Welcome to the forum.
I can think of three basic ways to accomplish what you wish to do:
Use the Project Archiver to archive your Project (and check the box to gather the media files), to an external HDD. Probably the easiest way to do it.
Copy the Project and ALL media files to an external HDD, but be prepared to relink the media files to the Project, as the drive letter (part of the Absolute Path) will have changed.
Edit loosely, and Share to an AV file, which will be Imported into a New Project on that second computer. Or, edit VERY tightly, and do the same. I like the first, as removing, replacing Transitions, etc., can be much more difficult, unless that "tight edit" is 100% done.
    Good luck,

how can i copy apps from one computer to another?

You don't mention which operating system you have so it's difficult to provide an answer since the mac and Windows stores the files differently.
The other thing you can do is just re-download the apps from the iTunes Store. Just login to the iTunes Store on the other computer using the same Apple ID. On the right-hand side of the iTunes Store page you will see a 'Purchased' link. Clicking on that will take you to a page that will list your past purchases which you can re-download to the new computer.

  • Transfer iweb files from one computer to another

Does anyone know how to transfer iweb files from one computer to another?

Change the name of the file to Domain-2.sites2 and try to copy it to the Desktop on the new Mac.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Optionsmenu to bring the this window:

I bought a new laptop and used Windows Easy Transfer cable and moved all files from one computer to another. I installed iTunes and found my iTunes music Library.  However, when I plug in my iPod it says it is already synced with another iTunes Library.
I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Can I move photos from one computer to another using Vault?

Can I move photos from one computer to another using Vault?  I use an external hard drive as a vault for my Imac and I want to import photos to my Macbook pro.  I have aperture 3 on both units.  Can I just plug the ext. drive into the laptop and import from the vault?

You can't import from the vault but you can restore that vault onto the MBP. This will restore the complete library that is contained in the vault.

Can I move files from one caralog to another?

    No. you cannot.
This, among many other reasons, is why multiple catalogs are not recommended.
(You could import the photo into another catalog, and delete from the first catalog ... and without first using the command File->Write Tags, you will lose your tags, captions and other metdata; version sets, stacks, album/collection membership are lost in any case)

  • Can't Transfer email from one computer to another

I am trying to transfer email accounts from a 17" Power PC iMac to a 20" Intel iMac. The two computers are connected with a firewire cable. I have archived the mailboxes into the public folder on the 17" iMac and am able to see the 17" public folder from the 20" iMac but they (the mbox files) have a little red minus that looks like a stop sign on top of them. Each one has nothing in it whereas the archived mbox files o the old computer are large files. I gone crazy trying to change all the permissions and I should be able to access everything but can't. Can anyone help me figure this out?
    Carol

I think you are going about this all wrong. If you simply want to copy the Mail files from one computer to the other then copy the /Home/Library/Mail/ folder's content from the PPC computer to the /Home/Library/Mail/ folder on the Intel computer. Then locate the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file on the PPC computer and copy it to the same location on the Intel computer.
Do not change any permissions, do not archive anything. After you have copied everything you can launch Mail on the Intel computer. It should then have all your mailboxes as well as your email account information.
If you are trying to move all your essential data from the PPC computer to the Intel one, then you may wish to review the following:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
    For FireFox:
    /Home/Library/Applications Support/FireFox
    /Home/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

  • Running MacOS 10.8.4  Contacts 7.1 (1170) can't drag cards from one folder to another.

I am running 10.8.4 with contacts 7.1 (1170).  I find I can't drag cards from one (any) group to another group.  When I restart it shows the card and indicates that it should accept it as it isn't in that group.  But doesn't move cards.  Then it no longer gives any indication the cards are moving when I drag.  When I shut down and restart it gives indication the cards are moving but none move and then no longer gives any indication when I drag.  I am syncing with icloud.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "41." Please post it in a reply.

  • Importing iWeb files from one computer to another

I have created a new website on my laptop and have my other sites on my desktop and want to transfer the site on my laptop to my desktop. I don't see where we can import files from one computer's files to another computer's files. Is there a way to do this?

    Mark:
You can copy the domain.sites2 file from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on your laptop to the Desktop of your desktop Mac, rename it to something like "site name.sites2", and put it in the iWeb folder with your other domain.sites2 file.
If you want to merge the sites in the two domain files into one new domain file you can do so with iWebSites.

  • HT3819 Can I transfer music from one computer to another via home sharing?

Can I transfer my music from one computer to another via home sharing?

So long as they are on the same wifi network, yes.
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in the library you're transferring from, the transfer may take some time.
