Can I Duplicate a Bus In Logic Express 8?

I have created a Multitrack project, with various instruments and 4 vocals parts.
Each vocal part is being recorded with multiple takes.
I create new audio tracks for each take.
Once all the takes for a vocal part are completed, I assign all takes to a single bus.i.e. All Channls / Takes for John, get assigned to Bus called John.
I set up all the inserts / effects on the single Bus, assigning no inserts on the individual channels / takes..
As I want the same inserts for each vocal bus, I would be extremely convenient to be able to Duplicate the John Bus. Although it is possible to duplicate a channel strip with Cmd-D, it does not work with Busses.
Is there a way to duplicate a bus with all the inserts?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly apprecaited.

OK, finally figured it out, Basically:
On the bus with the settings you want to duplicate, click the Settings button.
Select "Copy Channel Strip Settings"
Click on the bus you want to recreate the setting, click the Settings button.
Seelct "Paste Channel Strip Settings"
This works for all channel strips BTW.

Can't open any files in Logic Express 8

Hi out there,
I just installed Logic Exp. 8 out of the box. Runs nice as far as i can tell, but has a major bug with me: It won't open any projects or other files.
If i click the Projects in the Finder, they will open just fine. But I can't open them in Logic.
Import of Files into a project works fine.
Ideas anyone? Update anyone (wink, wink to apple)?

You may be having the same problem I observed, and I think it may be a bug.
After upgrading to Logic Express 8, when I save projects they appear as a folder rather than a file in the finder, with the .logic suffix. Previous versions saved projects as a .iso file. On another machine I upgraded Logic Pro to Logic Studio 8, and here projects are saved as a .logic file. My guess is the .logic file created is supposed to be a file for both Logic Pro and Express, with package contents under OS X ... but for some reason this is appearing as a folder when created by Logic Express, with the package contents visible ... so you can't double click on anything to open them.
Has anyone else seen this? is there a workaround or is this a bug?
In the meantime, note that you can launch the Logic Express .logic 'folders' by dragging the and dropping the entire .logic folder onto the Logic Express icon in the dock.

How can I reset my defaults in Logic Express 9 on an iMac?

How do you restore your default settings for Logic Express 9 on iMac? I had my keyboard working fine through a Fast Track Pro until I tried setting up an aggregated device due to my mic not working. Now I can hear my keyboard again but can't control the volume and its Very low! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

URGENT! I can't hear my mic in logic express, I am using line 6 KB37 as audio interface

I just bought logic express 9 and I am having trouble. I can't record my vocals, I have the mic set up with the line 6 KB37 audio interface and when open a new project and create a new track I can't hear anything. There is no signal at all, even on the KB37. Any help much appreciated.

1) What kind of mic are you using? If it's a condenser mic, make sure you have phantom power turned on.
2) I am not familiar with the KB37 audio interface. What input is the mic on the device? If it has a mic input, and a guitar input, then it's probably Input 1, but if it isn't you'll need to change the input on the track in Logic to whatever number it should be.

Can I use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6

Is it possible to use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6.? Are there any limitations to not having Logic Pro 9. I'm very happy with LE9.1.6. as it meets all my needs (perhaps with the exception of not having Space Designer) but if I need to upgrade to get the most out of MainStage 2 then I will.

Actually I have found a way for at least the instrument plug ins to be accessed.
I was able to set up an instance of Sculpture in MS2 and record it in LE using Soundflower.
Route the audio from MainStage to Logic and record onto an audio track in Logic as follows:
If not already installed, get SoundFlower. After installing it.
A) Setup the sound you want in MS2 and audio output to Soundflower (remember to Apply Changes or it does not hold).
B) In Logic Express set the audio input to Soundflower and create a new audio track for recording. Important: set Soundflower's audio output to however you listen to your audio or you won't hear anything.
C) Press RECORD and start playing, LE captures Mainstage's sound.
I have not tried to wire LE's output to MS2 to take advantage of Space Designer. but since this functions, I'm not sure why that couldn't work as well. It is still flipping though a few screens though...might just be easier to get Logic Pro from the App store....

Come on man, how can I not garner a smart *** rely? You've been trying to install a program since March? You could have resolved this issue by giving Apple a call the same day you took your new software home and tried it for the first time. 10 minutes on the phone with a tech and you'd be set.
Yet here you are over half a year later griping about it? That's just ridiculous.
What do you want us to tell you? If your number doesn't work or you don't have the skill to install an app then you've got problems beyond our ability to solve.
In short. Call Apple. They can answer your questions.

How many computers can I install Logic Express on?

Simple question...can I buy one copy of Logic Express and install it on both my Macbook Pro and my new iMac when I get it? I can't see anywhere on Apple's site any info on the software product licences. I also need to know the same information for Final Cut express.

Thanks for that, I was beginning to think I wouldn't get an answer to this question. I will be using only one of these computers for music production at a time so that will be fine. I will probably use the iMac at home and the Macbook Pro when away and I didn't want to have to buy two copies.

Can you access Sountrack Pro Plugins from Logic Express?

I know that Express ships with fewer plugins and presets and channel strips, etc than Pro does. But many of the plugins are available in STP. Is there any way to access them in Logic or are they hidden to prevent their being used with other programs?

Unfortunately, you can't use STP plugins in Logic Express.

Guitar Presets - Logic Express 7.2

Is there a place that I can get more guitar presets for logic express without having to buy a plugin prgram like Guitar Rig2. Also, I find that the presets in Garageband sound better than the presets in Logic. Is there something I'm missing?

I don't know of any places to download some, but I do have to agree that I like the sound of the Garageband AMP simulators better than Logic's.

Or a trick I like to do is to Bus a clean guitar signal to 3 Aux or Bus tracks, then put amp simulators on all three, then blend them all together to where I like it. I got the idea after reading an interview on how Adam Jones of TOOL made his guitar signal. 3 amps with an SM57, a Sennheiser 421, and another mic that they felt they needed, on each cabinet. Feeling Ripped Off - Logic Express 9 Upgrade Issue

Hi, I have been using Logic Express 8 for about a year. I just bought the upgrade for Logic Express 9. I started installing it, entered the serial number and then I was prompted to enter the serial number for my Logic Express 8.
I have since misplaced my LE 8 booklet with the serial number on the back (a bunch of stuff didn't make it to my new apartment in a move). I didn't think this would be a big deal. I thought I would be able to find the serial number of my current version of LE 8 by clicking on the "About Logic Express" tab when I have the program running. However, when you click this all you get is who it is registered to (me) and the version number (8.02).
I called technical support and asked them where I can find the serial number and they said sure, "click on About Logic Express when you have the program open and it will be right there (he also called it the splash page)." It wasn't and isn't. The tech support person said "ah yes, only the previous versions of Logic Express show you the serial number of the version you currently are running." I asked if there was anywhere else that I could find this number and he said "no."
Solutions? He suggested I find my receipt and fax it in and get a new serial number. Impossible, I don't have the receipt. Call the store and see if they can dig it up. Let's get real. It was purchased with Xmas money in cash I got from my parents.
Basically, I'm screwed. I have an opened LE 9 upgrade that I can't return. I have a version of LE 8 that I legally purchased and for some dumb reason there isn't a file or page or something in the program that notes my serial number.
Not fair. I guess I have to tattoo all serial numbers for stuff I purchase from Apple to my arms on the chance that I lose a booklet. Why Apple doesn't include a file or store the serial number of the LE version you are running somewhere on the system is beyond me.
So, I feel ripped off. Apple doesn't care. I thought there would be some way we could work this out (like printing the screenshot of the page that says I am the registered owner) but they would rather try to get another $100 out of a loyal Apple customer and force me to buy LE 9 straight up. I've probably spent about $7,000 on Apple stuff in the past 6 years. I am the definition of a loyal customer.

You didn't buy Logic Express, you merely paid for the right to use it. When you install it, you are presented with the license agreement to which you must agree.
At the top of the agreement it reads "IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THE LICENSE, YOU MAY RETURN THE APPLE SOFTWARE TO THE PLACE WHERE YOU OBTAINED IT FOR A REFUND...."
So, try taking it back to the store and telling them you declined the license agreement and want a refund.

How good is the music notation facility in Logic Express 9?

The music notation feature in GarageBand is frustratingly inadequate. For instance, using a piano keyboard it is impossible - as far as I can tell - to show notes below middle C as being played by the right hand. This means that some very basic chords appear in the notation as being physically impossible to play. For instance, if I play C1 & E2 in the left hand and G2, C3 And E3 in the right, the music notation shows the left hand as C1, E2 and G2. I can't stretch that far!
If I upgrade from GarageBand to Logic Express 9, will the music notation facility enable me to print what I play?

Not without a lot of trouble, and not in an easily readable way. E.g., if you put a quaver over two semiquavers (thats an eighth over two sixteenths), the quaver will be split in two, so you'll see 4 semiquavers, two of which are bound. Changing a note's staff is possible, but can lead to ugly results. Logic Express (and I think Pro too) doesn't have a ready-to-print scoring facility.
I can advise you to use Logic for recording. There you can edit it until all the notes are correct, and then export the midi file to e.g. the freeware MuseScore. That gives you great control over the score. If that doesn't suit you, you'll have to move on to Finale, Sibelius, Overture, ...

Using non apple wav files in logic express 9

Does anyone know how i can use non apple files in logic express 9.i have put them in Bin but cannot get them to play via my midi keyboard.thanks

Actually i am not sure i really understand your question because it seems to me that in your subject heading you are asking about " wav " files which are audio files but in your message you refer to playing those files via your midi keyboard which indicates you are trying to play " midi " files and not " audio " files.
If you want to play a audio file:
Create and audio track in a project and the import the "wav" file into that audio track and it should play as an audio file when hit the play button in the transport controls.
Please clarify what type of file you want play using LExpress 9 to give us a better idea as to how to help you.

Besides, using that logic, a majority of the boards would have to be removed, such as Mac OS 9 (10.3?) and earlier, G3 and earlier Mac hardware, etc. since Apple no longer supports them.
But Apple does support them. Apple maintains not only the availability of downloads and KBase articles applicable to those products, but also the discussions forums for them. All those provide support for the items.
I think what you mean is that Apple no longer develops those products, which is true - but that is not the same as not supporting them.
In the case of Logic, Apple provides support for those products released since Apple acquired Logic, but not for those products released before Apple acquired it.
