If you are willing to use other apps to produce .epub instead of .ibooks, this may be useful:

  • Can I embed fonts in exported Word docs in 09

    As it says. Can I embed fonts in an exported DOC type document, in Pages 09, or 5.2 for that matter?
    thanks

    No, not in a Word document. If you export to PDF fonts will be embedded.

  • Using custom fonts in iBooks Author

    I have a book in South Asian (Indic) script. The encoding is Unicode. I wanted to see how different fonts would look on iPad. Using iBook Author i created two different versions of the book. One used Gujarati MT, Apple supplied font. The second used open source TTF font. It checked out fine by MacOS when I installed it. The rendering of conjuncts (which would use additional glyph present in the font file) on iBook Author  looks good. When I use "preview" function of iBook Author to see how the content would look on iPad, conjuncts dont use special glyph but only standard character (I guess GSUB is not utilized). I tried the same experiment with Arial Unicode MS and Shruti both are standard fonts provided under Windows. it appears that only Apple supplied fonts have correct glyph substitution on iPad.
    Is there a way to fix it?
    If the issue is with iBook Author, I can use another software. My book is plain text so Author is an overkill. I was using it to test embedding of custom fonts because Author is easy to use.
    If the issue is missing definition in the font that is required by iPad rendering engine, I can get the font author to enhance the font.
    I attach four images. First two are from iBook Author where rendering is correct. The next two are from iPad where rendering using non Apple font is messed up.

    Is comment about enhancing the font to support AAT still relevant? Are you saying that iOS needs those AAT extension that macOS does not need? Is this mostly around MORX table?
    iOS (and OS X) comes with two Gujarati fonts, Gujarati MT and Gujarati Sangam MN.  So the easiest thing to do is to use one of those.   Other platforms will probably have their own default Gujarati fonts with different names.
    If you want to embed a different Gujarati font in your .ibooks format book, then you will indeed have to convert that font from OpenType to AAT before iBooks will display it correctly.   It's not true that OS X no longer needs AAT Indic fonts -- Pages for example still cannot use Opentype Indic fonts.
    To convert an Opentype Indic font to an AAT Indic font I think someone will have to add a morx table along the lines of what is contained in Gujarati MT.
    Bear in mind that iBooks Author creates a format that can only be read on an iPad (unless you want to export to PDF).  If you want to produce books for all platforms and readers, then you need to use .epub format and a different app, like Pages or Indesign.   With epub format you would probably not normally try to embed fonts but just  rely on the reader to supply whatever Gujarati font is already on the device.

  • The Page turning effect and widgets. Who else wants this as a widget? I can't get it in ibooks author.

    The page turning effect( or lack of). Having spent 6 months writing a children's story in ibooks author, I can't get this effect unless I export it as a pdf, and re export as an epub. I lose the interactive widgets, and the font format goes crazy, extra page numbers as well. I contacted apple support on 4th Nov, but was recommended to come here. I want the page turning effect, and want to keep the widgets. Surely there is a "widget" to plug in to this? Honestly, I despair...

    I don't think anybody has found a way to do what you want with iBA.  Join the rest in letting Apple know how much you want it via

  • Embed pdf into iBooks Author

    Hi,
    I've been creating a book in iBooks Author.
    But the customer wants to include some pdf articles into the book.
    What i have tried so far:
    drag and drop pdf -> only imports first page of the pdf
    PDF to Keynote -> bad quality, not zoomable
    HTML widget with:
    A <object data="myPDF.pdf" type="application/pdf"></object>
    This gives some sort of source code of the pdf
    HTML widget wit a object but the data referece to a pdf that is on the internet
    => shows the pdf but you can not navigate to the other pages
    redirect to a pdf that is on the internet
    => shows the pdf and you can scroll to the other pages W00t!
    Now i want this result but with a pdf that is embedded into the widget so that the reader shouldn't be connected to the internet to read the pdf...

    Okay, so sticking with an English book which has Hebrew text in it. Assuming that the book has been first typeset in IDCS6, then would recommend simply sending the ePUB3 file to the iBooks store?
    Yes.  For testing, just email or otherwise transfer it to your iPad and see what it looks like in iBooks.
    I assume you've seen the stuff Adobe produces, like

  • Can I embed fonts in a pdf document?

    I wish to publish a Pages document and to do this I need to convert it to pdf and ensure that my fonts can be embedded into the pdf document. I am not sure how to proceed. How do you embed fonts in PDF from Pages 4.1?

    Preview does a nice job of embedding fonts. You can open a pdf with non-embedded fonts in Preview and then print->save as pdf creates one with fonts embedded. I had seen this in MacOSX Hints originally and it works for me.
    For seeing what fonts are embedded (or not), pdffonts is a very nice utility, which i think now comes with poppler, or you can build from their git.

  • Can 6i Embed Fonts in PDF?

    Is it possible to embed fonts into the PDF outputs created with reports 6i? If so, where is there information on how to do this for 6i?
    Thanks,
    Kurz

    As you say, you cannot generate a PDF directly with the embedded font, but I discovered a trick:
    Use the IX library config file to embed the font in the postscript output when reports runs, then convert the postscript into PDF with an embed fonts parameter to ps2pdf or ghostscript:
    ps2pdf -dEmbedAllFonts=true reports_output.ps
    This will create a PDF with the embeded font, and with the IX library, you can use TTF fonts.
    Can this command be executed somehow automatically by pasta or IX after the report finishes?

  • Can I embed fonts of all Dynamic Text objects in a Flash file?

    Hi there!
    I'm fairly new to Flash, so please bear with me.
    I have created a Flash file which will act as our company's standard presentation / portfolio of all previous projects.  I've pretty much got it running the way I want, but I've just tried it on a few different computers and realised that the fonts aren't embedded.  I've used our corporate font so it needs to look right.  Having read the following documentation (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=Liv eDocs_Parts&file=00000893.html) I now understand how to embed fonts for one dynamic text object at a time.  However, I have a lot of different dynamic text objects in the file and I would dearly love to embed them all in one step!  The same embedding options can be applied to just about all objects, as they're all the same size and font.
    I hope someone can help me.  If you are able to help please spell things out in simple steps!!  I am aware that I probably haven't yet grasped a number of the basics of Flash.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stuart

    Static text doesn't need to be embeded. So I'm not sure what the problem you are having is. The page you linked to is for making an embedded font in your library that can then be exported for actionscript and used by code and style sheets. If you are following the instructions on the page you liked to you only need to do that once. Which shouldn't be too hard.
    That is usually a different problem that having a bunch of different authortime created textfields that need to have characters embedded.
    As far as I know your only hope to change a bunch of authortime/library items is using JSFL. So even if the thing I pointed to isn't exactly what you need you could keep googling a bit or use that as a template.
    JSFL files are just text files so open it in note pad. Look for the line:
    if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip")
    and change it to this:
    if(it[i].itemType == "movie clip" || it[i].itemType=="button")
    Now it does buttons. You give up too easy.

  • Can't add books from iBooks Author

    I have 4 books that I exported from iBooks Author and tried to copy them to iBooks, however since I upgraded to Yosemite, I can only add one book and after this it tells me for the subsequent books that the book is already in the library (as above) even though this is not the case.
    I am using a Mac Pro with all the latest updates.
    I am also experiencing the same issue copying the files from Google Drive / Dropbox on to the iPad

  • Can I get the Apple IBook Author on the New IPad

    Will the ibook author be available for the new iPad? I've got a MacBook but its easier to use the iPad because of a disability.
    I use an ibook creator on the iPad at the moment, but I would much prefer to use the Apple Ibook creator.
    I haven't actually published anything yet and I'm thinking that it would be better to use the ibook author, so I can submit it straight to the ibook store.
    Also, does anyone know if there are any proofreading and editing tools that I could use, as it is very expensive getting someone to do it for me. I had a quote of around £850 for a 100,000 word book!
    Thank you. Any help will be most appreciated :)

    Have you tried Book Creator for iPad? You can create an ePub file which is already standards-compliant for Apple's iBookstore, so you can publish it without too much hassle.

  • How can I insert footnotes in iBooks Author?

    I just wanted to insert some footnotes or endnotes in iBooks Author, but I cannot find out how.
    I´ll be grateful for all suggestions.

    I don't think they dropped the ball at all really. This is Version 1 and judging from the package contents employees at Apple have been at making this app for over a year. Send feedback to Apple requesting an enhancement and maybe it will show up in the future.
    I know everyone expects a lot out of Apple, but this is a free offering and probably the best one out there to make an eBook as it stands right now. I agree footnotes, bibliographies and even other print based standards should be worked into the app, but also remember that this is an eBook and perhaps footnotes aren't as useful anymore in a hyperlink context.
    It would almost be easier for someone to import footnotes into a database on a custom built website. Then find a way to create hyperlinks from the text to the entries of the database.
    Also, just because you can drop in text generated from Pages or elsewhere doesn't necessary mean it should be done in the scope we are discussing. A footnotes import isn't practical by any means. Glossary terms could be imported though, but in what format? There are several standards footnotes are written so how could you match it up programmatically page by page? I suppose if everything were tagged a certain way it would help, but even that solution would require the author or designer to sit in front of a spreadsheet tagging every term that requires a footnote and glossary term.
    I think DTM82 had a good idea. If you have footnotes already formatted from a previous text, maybe you could create a layout with a footer text box and connect that box sequentially throughout the pages that are created. That way you could paste in the footnotes to the text box at the beginning of each section or chapter and create page breaks where they need to end on each page.
    I'll experiment with this idea and if I can get it to work, I'll post the solution.

  • How can people without Macs use iBooks Author?

    How can PC people use iBooks Author?
    Thanks,

    iBooks Author is a Mac only application. As of now there is no Windows' version available.

  • Can I create content in iBook Author and push it to my Newsstand App?

    Good afternoon!
    I am totally new at iOS developement and I am exploring the possibilities of the Newsstand app.
    I started building an app following a tutorial and up to now the basic code is working.
    What I am trying to do right now is see if I can create a magazine edition in iBook Author and push it as my new issue.
    So far, I got nothing but a blank issue.
    Is it something possible or do I have to build my own type of asset reader?
    Thank you!
    Marie-Eve

    (1)Why do you need manual instantiation of the 'managed' bean?I know such a case.
    Suppose you already have an EJB application and want to use JSP to display the result of the EJB call which is returned as a JavaBean.
    One solution is put your bean to SessionMap with the name specified in faces-config.xml.
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getSessionMap().put("name", bean);
    But, I hate this solution because it hard-codes the name of the bean.
    My favorite solution is to provide the result bean as a property of another managed bean.
    public class ManagedBean {
        private ResultBean result;
        public ResultBean getResult()  {return result;}
        public String action() {
            result = /* call EJB */;
             return "ok";
    }Page authors can refer the result bean as #{managedBean.result}.

  • Embed fonts on iBook on iPad Air iOS8 8.0.2 not working

    Hi. I have an iPad Air with new iOS 8.0.2 and my embed fonts on my eBook just stop working.
    Now when I use "Original" font the iPad is showing a generic serif font.
    Where is my embed fonts?
    I have a lot of work and research on internet to make them work and now they are gone.
    Thanks
    Ivan Milazzotti

    I have been in contact with Apple support. First, iOS diagnostics, everything ok, then restore using iTunes, the problem persists. They have recommended that I try to call more contacts and see if the problem continues. They suggest that the wifi can be the problem or restore using iTunes again but deleting files stored on the PC.
    I wonder if the wifi of my contacts is not right ... that's what makes my iPad reboots? I can understand that the call is cut, but do not restart ipad ...

  • Can a book created with iBooks Author be distributed on iMac's running Leopard OS?

    I am a high school computer teacher and I am creating a textbook for the courses I teach using iBooks Author. I have iMacs in my lab running OS X Leopard. With budget cuts and layoffs looming, there is no possibility whatsoever of upgrading to a newer operating system. Will I be able to distribute my textbook to the macs in my lab? If so, would I use iBooks or another EReader application? Or, am I wasting my time trying to create this resource for my kids? Thank You !

    iBooks Author requires Lion.
    But when you say 'distribute' if you mean 'read' the final output on your computer....no, sorry.
    Use Pages and output as PDF or epub and then use the OS X Kindle Reader...
