Can i erase everything on my macbook without.....

2 questions:
Is there a way to do the following?
1. erase everything on my macbook except my itunes account with my music and purchases?
2. A friend gave me her install 10.6.1 disk and i was wondering if its something i should install and if so can i do that and erase everything on my macbook except my itunes account with my music and purchases?

Hi....Welcome to Apple Discussions...
1...use 'iTunes Help' from the upper menu bar while iTunes is the active application to give you options for backing up your iTunes Library ie...an external drive or burn to CD's/DVD's.....type "Backup" into the 'search' box...
2...From a legal standpoint OSX is only to be installed on one computer at a time (unless she has a "Family" license) ....so if 10.6 is on her Mac from that install DVD it would be wrong...
....From a technical standpoint if the install disk is a machine specific disk (shipped with her mac) it would probably not work right in your MacBook...(only the Retail versions will work in a broad spectrum of Mac's)

  • How can I erase all content and settings without password

I just bought this iPad from my friend, when I try to erase all content and settings, it asked me about the password of his Apple ID password. But he already forgot it! So how can I erase everything back to the factory setting, like a brand new iPad, has nothing in it. Please help and thank you very much.

That is activation lock and cannot be bypassed. He will have to remember his password, or reset it so you can continue with the restore.  There's no way around this as it is an anti theft feature to prevent thieves from being able to use the device. It would be pointless if you could bypass it.

  • Can I Erase all Content and Settings without Plugging my iPad into iTunes?

Is it possible to run a full factory reset on iPad running iOS 5.0.1 without plugging it into iTunes?
Yes, I do realise that iOS updates can be performed now without iTunes on ios 5.0
Has anyone ever performed an "Erase all Content and Settings" without the use of iTunes lately (with iOS 5.0 or later)

Yes - you can do a full factory reset without using iTunes.
I have never done it, but what you are saying is exactly how you do it. Erase all content and settings and then restore using iCloud. Read this article and it explains it. It is pretty straightforward.

  • How can I erase everything on a hard drive?

I have an external hard drive that I want to erase and then use to archie video.  How does one go about erasing everything on an external hard drive?

You can open the drive and drag everything to the trash and empty it in the Finder.
If your wanting to erase and reformat the drive, it depends what your going to use it for.
    Drives, partitions, formatting w/Mac's + PC's
It's possible to reformat the drive with the same existing formatting, that will also erase the entire drive of all data provided the entire drive is selected, not the indended partitions if any exist.

  • I am selling my broken Macbook for parts, how can I erase my old hard drive without the computer working?

I destroyed my Macbook in a car accident and have found somebody to buy it for parts. To be safe I want to make sure the Hard Drive is void of all personal information before I hand it over. What are my options?

they do sell them at best buy.  I just went to the best buy website and searched for "external enclosure".  Make sure it is 2.5" as that is the size of laptop hard drives, not 3.5" as that is to hold desktop hard drives.

  • How can I reinstall iLife on my macbook without the CD?

I once had iLife on my macbook, however when I updated to OS X Lion, I couldn't find it anymore. I am currently running version 10.7.3.
I need to reinstall iLife without using the CD and without going to the Apple store as I am no where near one.
P.S: When I search for iLife in the App Store it says I have to pay.
    Please Help!
    Thanks!

Restoring iLife applications after Internet Restore of OS X Lion
If you reinstall Lion on a new Mac that shipped with OS X Lion installed, on an erased or replaced hard drive, you can download iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand from the Mac App Store.
    After installation, start from Lion.
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to compete installation of your applications.

  • Can i install snow leopard on Macbook without using Time Machine?

Hi, I've backed up my files using SuperDuper and made 2 copies of my data on 2 usb sticks. Do I also need to use Time Machine to back up my files aswell, in order to update osx and install snow leopard?? If I've already got my 2 copies of my files on usb sticks, isn't that enough backing up? Any suggestions will be appreciated thanks!

Thanks for answering, so did you manage to upgrade your mac with snow leopard without using time machine? I'd just like to make sure I'm doing the right thing.
To clear up some possible confusion, you don't need any backups (Time Machine or otherwise) to upgrade a Mac from an earlier OS version to Snow Leopard. To do that, just follow Apple's instructions to launch the "Install OS X" app on the Snow Leopard DVD, which upgrades the OS to Snow Leopard without changing your user settings, erasing or changing your user files, & so on. It is an easy process & generally works quite well.
The backup(s) are in case something goes wrong, which is unlikely but not impossible. You should regularly be backing up at least your important user files to an external device whether or not you upgrade ("important" meaning anything you can't afford to lose) since hard drives can fail without warning or other calamities might destroy some or all of the data on them.
At upgrade time, bootable clones like SuperDuper! makes are especially good insurance against any unforeseen upgrade problems: if something goes wrong you can just clone back to the internal drive & return to the pre-upgrade state, without having to hassle with installing anything.

  • How can I erase everything on my computer before I sell it?

I'm selling my Macbook Pro to the person who tried to fix it when my airport card stopped working but before I lose ownership of it I need to delete everything off of it! Problem is I can't find the box it came in along with the Installation Disk thats inside the box. Could someone please tell me how to delete everything from my computer?

Since the install DVDs are part of the Mac, you really should call AppleCare and ask them to send you a replacement set. They will charge you a nominal fee for shipping and handling.

  • Can I sync reminders to my macbook without using iCloud?

Having issues syncing my reminders from my iphone to my macbook pro without using iCloud, can this be done?

I don't believe there is an option to sync reminders direct with iCal via the iTunes sync process.
What is the problem doing this with iCloud?

  • Can't erase hard drive on macbook pro

I've used up all the space on my Macbook Pro and I want to clean it all off, as I do art and college work on it. I have saved the files on USB sticks and I can install the applications and programs I need back off the internet. However, when I look through the internet, they say that I should go to Disk Utility and select the hard drive and click erase. I have done this, but it doesn't give me the option. The button to click is dull and is not highlighted, not allowing me to erase it. I am also worried about getting back on, because some people claim that they have to reinstall OS with a CD, and mine never came with one as I got this laptop in late August 2013. I don't know how to erase it, as I've had this for nearly a year and I haven't erased it once.  Please help, as I need to erase it ASAP!

If you got it new in August 2013, there aren’t any disks. Restart it with the Command and R keys held down instead.
Regardless of what model it is, you’ll need to restart from an alternate system, such as a DVD or the recovery partition, before you’ll be able to erase the partition containing the primary one.

  • How can i download iWorks onto my macbook without it asking for a serial number?

I downloaded iWorks onto my Macbook, but when I try to open it its asking for a serial number and I can't find the serial number. What can I do?

Then you purchased it from Apple. They will send the complete boxed set with a serial number. Whatever you downloaded is most likely just a trial version.
If by "download" you mean how to install on the computer, then you have an installer DVD. On or in the box you received will be the required serial number. You might see the following:
iWork '09: Serial number not required for installation of retail boxes
iWork '09: Install disc may prompt for serial number

  • How can I erase files on an Ipod without connecting to a computer?

I work for a small company that has lost the orignial Ipod installation discs. This being the case, there is no way for me to erase files from the Ipods. Is there any way to do this? Secondly, how can I get discs to reinstall the drivers and such for these Ipods?

You can't delete from the iPod directly. You need to use your computer.
Any software you need for the iPod can be downloaded free from Apple's website.
    iTunes 6
