CAN I ERASE PARTITION BOOT CAMP IF I HAVE INSTALLED PARALLELS DESKTOP?

CAN I ERASE PARTITION BOOT CAMP IF I HAVE INSTALLED PARALLELS DESKTOP?

I think the answer is NO. Or Maybe. Or, can't answer based on lack of details. And, more a question for Parallels Support forums.
All depends on your setup. But you will lose ability to dual boot or use VM most likely.
In any event, we are not mind readers. And have some backups already.
Before you do? do this: buy WinClone 3 and make a backup image of Windows hard partition "aka" Boot Camp.

Please don't double post. Look at your other thread.
If you want to get rid of Windows and the BC partition use the Boot Camp assistant program to remove the Win/BC partition. Don't do it manually with Disk Utility Use the BC A program.

  • Help-Erasing a Boot Camp Partition Caused 32 GB of Disk Space to Vanish

    Hi
I'm a new mac user I'd I have been really happy so far, expect for this problem:
-I created a 32 gb partition with boot camp.
-I tried installing windows xp without knowing I had to format the system to NTFS during the install
The installation didnt work, and I erased the bootcamp partition.
-When I tried to create a new boot camp partition, it said my Mac HD size hard drive is 227 gb, ie the *32 gb allocated to the partition had vanished*. In addition, I could not recreate a partition because of an error message.
-I ran the snow leopard CD's disk utility and thought that I had fixed the problem.
-However in boot camp, the mac drive is still only 227 gb (missing 32 gb). I can create partitions now, and deleting these partitions does cause any additional loss of disk space.
-I tried erasing empty disk space with no luck.
Does anyone know how to recover space lost by Boot Camp?
    Thanks

Let me ask a simple question. What size HD do you have in your Mac? You say you see 227 GB and that 32GB is "missing". If I add those two numbers up I com up with 259 GB. I suspect that your "missing" space is due to the inconsistencies in which Snow Leopard now reports 1 GB. In some places it reports 1 GB as a hard disk manufacturer (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes). In other places it reports 1 GB as a binary number (1 GB = 2^^30 [IIRC] = 1,073,741,824 Bytes). Since I do not know of any drive manufacturer that sells a 259 GB drive, I suspect that this is just due to the differing definitions of 1 GB.

That's because the Boot Camp volume was created, but your Mac hasn't been set up to start automatically from the Windows disc. Insert the Windows DVD and press C key while your Mac is starting to start Windows installation.
If you want to make sure that everything is correct, open Boot Camp Assistant and choose the option to remove Windows 7. Then, open that application again, select the option to install Windows 7 and you will be able to install Windows as usual

  • I installed windows 8 before installing Boot Camp 5(currently have  4) with 32 bit version win 8.  Anything I can do now to upgrade to Boot Camp 5?. .

I installed Windows 8-32 bit before installing Boot Camp 5 (currently have 4). Is there anything I can do now to install Boot Camp 5 then re-install Windows with the 64 bit version?
I am hoping that I do not need to delete the partition and start all over.

Boot Camp 5 drivers can only be installed in 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so first you have to install a 64-bit Windows 8 version.
Note that Microsoft doesn't support upgrades from a 32-bit Windows to a 64-bit version, so you have to do a clean install, losing your applications, but you can keep your data, stored in "Windows.old", a folder at the root level of your Windows volume. Insert your Windows 8 DVD, hold the C key while your computer is starting and install Windows in the Windows partition.
After installing Windows 8, install the Windows support software for 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions

  • If I have a Mac Mini ( no Disk Drive ) Can I Still Use Boot Camp ?

Hi, I have a ma mini... but i have came to a conclusion that I have no disk drive... so can i still use bootcamp ? I was wondering because all of the tutorials I watch, they tell me to insert my disk into the disk drive.
    -Thanks for The Help

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have a Mac mini without a built-in SuperDrive, you have two ways to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp:
    - If you have Windows in a ISO file > open Boot Camp Assistant, tick the option to create a Windows installation USB drive and follow the steps.
    - If you have Windows in a DVD > buy an external optical drive, connect it to your computer, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to install Windows.
Don't forget to download Windows support software, and install it just after finishing the Windows installation.

  • Boot Camp drivers won't install on Windows 7

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro (10.10.2 Yosemite), and just installed Windows 7 (64-bit) via Boot Camp. It works fine but I am unable to install any of the drivers (version 5.1.5621). I put them on a flash drive but when I open Drivers/Apple/BootCamp, it says the program can not be run, check your bit version for compatibility (something like that)... I then try the troubleshoot way but this is what happens-
    Thanks for the help.

Please verify that you have the correct drivers using System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support  and install or repair using setup.exe in the BC folder.

  • If i go the Boot camp route, i have a genuine Win 7 disc ....

Hi all, i am very intrigued about this Boot Camp idea, i have just switched as of yesterday, my old Windows 7 lap top has got a genuine windows 7 on it, so if reformat my old lap top i could then use the win7 disc to put it on the mac.
On my old Lap Top i used Acronis to back it up periodically, so if i booted into Win7 on my Mac would i then be able to using an Acronis Rescue CD, restore one of my old Acronis BackUps, is that possible do you think or am i really dreaming ?, has anyone done it ?
    tim

You'll be fine with the full Windows 7 media that you have. However, as was mentioned, you should not use Acronis (True Image?) to restore the image from your other laptop. BootCamp provides the drivers necessary to properly support the hardware in your new machine. Windows 7 actually does a fairly good job at detecting hardware and installing the proper drivers for most hardware. Windows 7 will typically boot up fine with a fresh install and then you install the BootCamp drivers. If you restore the backup image you have from your PC, that will over write everything on the BootCamp partition with the image from your old machine. It will not contain any of the drivers necessary to properly operate your MacBook. The problem with restoring an image from totally different hardware is that the OS is expecting to see the hardware from your old machine. This may result in any number of stability issues if you're lucky enough to get it to boot in the first place. You should start by backing up your data and doing a fresh install of Windows 7 (you may need to call Microsoft to re-activate it) and then re-install your applications and then move your data over from your backup.

  • Another antivirus for Windows 7 in Boot Camp if i have Intego Virus Barrier?

Do I need another antivirus program for Windows 7 in Boot Camp if I have Intego Virus Barrier already installed on my Mac?

Different operating systems require different solutions. Microsoft Security Essentials is decent, easy to set up, and free.

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

  • HT5639 Do I need to uninstall boot camp 4 before I install and update to boot camp 5. I already have windows 8 pro with boot camp 4 installed. Do I need to unistall boot camp 4 or not necessary?

I already have windows 8 pro with boot camp 4 installed on my macair book 11". I have searched the entire articles on how to upgrade boot camp 4 to boot camp 5 but have found no answer as to my question: Do you have to uninstall boot camp 4 drivers before you install boot camp 5? I am not sure if it is ok to install boot camp 5 directly without uninstalling boot camp 4 because there might be driver version conflict. So I have not installed boot camp 5. Is it ok to install boot camp 5 withoust uninstalling boot camp 4? Your answers will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You don't have to uninstall Boot Camp 4 drivers before installing Boot Camp 5 drivers. Boot Camp 5 drivers will simply overwrite Boot Camp 4 drivers, so you don't have to uninstall old drivers before installing new ones and making that process easier
