Can I even DO Dual Monitor on T61 with 2054?

Did a search but my question is even more basic.  Sorry - I'm a newbie here.
I just received a T61 with a 2054 docking station.  I have successfully connected one external monitor that comes on when I boot up (with the lid closed).  I have a 2nd monitor that I'd like to hook up, but don't see any place to attache it!  (There is a monitor port on the T61 as well as the one on the 2054 but that doesn't seem to do anything.)
Maybe I don't have the correct hardware?  Or is there an adaptor I need to buy?  Can someone step me through this to see if this is even possible?
thanks
doug

Hi...I have the same question:  2 external monitors plus the laptop display on a T61.
I hope an expert has the answers.
I have researched several adapters, but I am not sure if they will work, and I am reluctant to shell out the money to experiment.

  • T60p and dock station: can't do the dual monitors

    hi gurus:
i have a t60p and a mini dock station. the docking station seems to be working fine execept the problems with dual-monitor function.
    1) for some reasons, the laptop lcd always shows up as screen 2 instead of default screen 1
    2) tried to monkey around the settings and got messages claimed that i don't have administrative rights to change... blah, blah (i am the sole person using this laptop and i am the administrator).
    any idea?
any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Paul,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • How do I setup a dual monitor (ATI fglrx with KDE)?

Hi, I'm trying to setup a dual monitor.. I connected with DVI to DVI and after restarting X the second monitor becomes a mirror/clone of the first (original laptop screen). However, I don't want it to be mirrored. I only want to have windows I drag over to it on the second monitor. How do I do that? In Control Center>Display, I can only choose settings for screen 1, I don't know why it can't find my 2. screen (even though X does).
Here's xorg.conf (I would appreciate if I could stick to only configuring it in Control Center though):
    # xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page.

    Hi all,
The new fix for flash to allow fullscreen video on dual monitors is a great addon.  Is there a way to have this work with the StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN command as well? So far its acting as normal.  I assume this may be because its not actual video, but an application that im fullscreening.

  • Dual-Monitor wacom setup with nvidia proprietary driver

Hello dear ArchLinux community. I'm new to this forum and very happy to join this great community.
I'll cut right to the chase.
I want to buy a Wacom Cintiq (tablet with integrated monitor) in the near future, and am therefore looking into issues I might have with the setup.
The desired configuration would have the tablet as well as a 24" screen hooked up to my geforce gtx275 in dualhead mode, with the input from the tablet mapped to the screen area of the tablet.
I've done a bit of testing for that matter with my old Wacom Bamboo and a second monitor.
Mapping a tablets input to a screen is very simple IN THEORY.
With the linuxwacom drivers you can map the tablet to one X screen (as displayed by xrandr).
The problem is that nvidia uses Twinview for dualheaded systems, which presents X with only one big screen, rather that two individual ones.
(mind you, this all worked like a charm with fglrx/intel)
I tried switching to nouveau, but this doesn't work for two reasons:
1.: Nouveau presents two individual screens to X when dualheaded, so I can use linuxwacom's MapToOuput.
What happens then is that, as soon as I use the stylus, the mapping starts to shift rapidly between one screen and the whole area. I haven't figured out, what exactly does that, but it makes it impossible to do anything with the tablet
2.: Nouveau, even with mesa, just has no 3d acceleration for my card. Since I do a lot of 3d work it just doesn't work for me.
    Three other possibilities would be
1.: To try and disable Twinview/use something else. I have no idea if or how this works, though.
2.: To restrict the mapping area of the tablet in some other way. Again, no idea how to do this.
3.: To use two X sessions - one for either monitor. As far as I know this robs me of the ability to drag windows from one screen to another. Also, I don't know how Gnome3 would react to it AND I don't know how to properly configure it. PLEASE ADVISE
A last resort would be to buy an ATI card along with the Tablet (after all, if I'm going to shell out $2000 for a tablet I might as well add $150 to make sure it works).
With this I run into another problem, though, because Gnome3 and fglrx WON'T COOPERATE (please correct me if I'm wrong. I would LOVE to see a solution to these graphical glitches)
The actual question to you, fellow Arch users, is which of these solutions - if any - I should go for, and how to best execute it.
Any other suggestions would be great, too.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Sincerely,
    Gabriel [liveag].

  • How do i get dual monitors to work with bootcamp (windows 7)

i have a macbook pro intel core i7
using a VGA adapter for connection of the monitor
when i use the mac side the dual screens work perfectly, but when i use bootcamp with windows 7 the screen stays blank, i know it ver recognizes it because when i drag my mouse over to the right it goes out of the screen and then i have to drag for a while before its back on the mac screen, so it is being used but not being displayed. also when i first start up windows its shows the boot screen on the monitor aswel but then goes blank.

If you are talking about MS Windows then you need to launch either Boot Camp or run it in Virtualization app such as Parallels or VM Fusion.  You also need a valid license of MS Windows. However if that is not what you mean then you must be much more specific. For example:
"I want to share some files between my PC running Windows 7 and my new iMac running 10.9.3, how do I go about that?"

  • How can I get a dual display to work with Keynotes?

I'm using an iMac 24" output to a projector. I want to have Keynotes presentation on the iMac mon while I demo with various softwares, iPhoto, on the projection screen. Basically, I want to run the Keynote presentation and forward the slides on the iMac24" as a reference to the demos I'm doing on the large screen.
Keynotes does not seem to let me do that. It wants to take up both screens.
    Help is appreciated.

You are right: When in the presentation mode, Keynote normally wants to use both screens, depending on your Keynote Preferences settings.
Although I haven't tried this, the following procedure might be a way to accomplish what you want. It's worth a try, and at least it can do no harm.
    1) In Keynote /Preferences / Slideshow window, check the box "Allow Expose, Dashboard, and others to use screen. This lets other applications use the display on your computer while Keynote is in the Presentation mode.
    2) In the same menu, check the button "Present on primary display." This will put the presentation onto your iMac screen.
    3) In the Keynote / Preferences / Slideshow window, do NOT check the box "Use alternate display to view presenter information." This means that your slideshow will run, but you will not be able to see the "presenter information" to preview what's coming next. You'll need to run your slideshow by memory.
    4) The other applications you want to show on the projector (which you assign as the "alternate" display in the System Preferences / Displays menu) you will need to drag them over to that display before you launch the Keynote Presentation - just as you would do if you were using two monitors.
Others have asked similar questions, so if this works, please let us all know. If you have to "fiddle" with it a bit, please let us know that too.
    Good luck.

  • Dual MOnitors stopped working with the Windows 8.1 upgrade valentines week 2015

The recent windows 8.1 upgrade during the week of 2/8/2015 broke the ability to duplicate screens on my Envy dv6 and a Hannspree LCD.  There is no screen on the Hannspree while it does remain on the dv6.  Switch to external screen only and the screen does display on the Hannspree.  Switch to extend and the dv6 remained the primary screen, and the Hannspree can only show the screen saver.

    Hi @MikeD48
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a fantastic  place to find answers and suggestions!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran the  HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates?
Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter?
Understanding multiple monitors from windows.microsoft.com may also help.
If the above has not helped I would do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8) with the exteranl monitor disconnected.
This returns the notebook back to defaults.
    HP & Windows 8.1 Update
Now without reconnecting the external monitor redo your Windows 8.1 update. The above link may assist you with that process.
Please be sure all updates are done before reattempting the update.
Now if  you reconnect your external are you able to set it up correctly?
    Good Luck!

  • MacBook Pro, dual Monitor color shift with Photoshop CS4, OS 10.5.5

I'm observing a strange behavior: With PS CS3 i could just drag an image from
the laptop monitor to the external Eizo and the color would adjust instantly, with
consistent color (All monitors calibrated, no settings have changed). The same applies to Lightroom
2.0 too. Now when i do the same move with the same image opened in PS CS4 the color does not
adjust to match but stays the same and the result is a oversaturated image on the external monitor.
    Any thoughts? Thanks, Mark

It should adjust to the display the same as CS3.
Have you tried turning off OpenGL image display?
(it could be a bug, or a driver issue)

I have a T500 with XP installed. I am using it docked into a mini dock attached to two 20inch Viewsonic monitors. One connected via VGA and the other DVI. I setup the dual monitors just fine. Anytime after I undock and boot up the laptop I can't get the dual monitors to automatically display. I have to go into the display properties and re set it up each time. Can anyone suggest any ideas?

When your T500 power-on , press F1 to log in BIOS, and change the option in >config>Display>Boot-Display-Device to Both or VGA, I suppose that it will reslove your problem.
