Can I exclude files types (extensions) or Import only specific Types?

Hello,
I am trying to import thousands of pictures into Lightroom as I have a mess of pictures do to a long story...But basically I have probably 30,000 pictures in a bunch of folders that I want to import.
One issue I have found is that I don't want to import TIFF, BMP, GIF, or things like PNG. I really only want jpg files or jpeg files unless I stumble across others in another format I haven't found yet.
Can I set something during the import? I have searched the forums and internet, but haven't found anything that mentions this.
Can someone please help? Also does anyone have a good suggestion on how to clean up a mess like this where I have 30,000 pictures but probably only need 10,000 as there are duplicates upon duplicates due to having to move the pictures around in a hurry as I had a mess in my basement during a storm a couple years ago.

You can't do it at import, although LR will skip any unsupported file types (BMP, GIF, PNG). Once you've imported though, you can easily filter for the TIFFs and remove those from the catalog without deleting from the hard drive.
Are you wanting to move the LR photos into their own folder structure at the same time, or leave them where they are?

Based on my understanding of Work Folders, all the files/folders in Work Folders location would be synchronized automatically/manually.
Did you mean that you want to sync files based on their size or extension? If yes, personally, it would be impossible.

When doing a Command+F search, can I EXCLUDE file types?

I need to find a logo called "5 Star". I know it is either a tiff or eps file.
I search brings 3000+ items.
Most of these are internet cache files, fonts and PDF files.
Can I EXCLUDE a file type when I do a command+F?
What happened to the "IS NOT" paramater in the find?

Yes. If you use "Apple Command -f" , you can specify all sorts of search parameters (see OTHER) in an exclusive manner. You can only use the parameter choices which are provided, but for example, you can use "NAME + contains" "star" with KIND as "other" and specify "eps." or ".tif." Or use NAME + ends with ".eps."
I am not sure where the exclusion AND NOT feature went. Each list of possibilities is associated with the pre-canned options.

FCPX can't use files without extension?

I just spent hours renaming my old clips..... from "ClipXXX" to a date (handy tip.... AVT DV Info is a godsend if you don't know when you recorded footage!).
I didn't put ".dv" at the end of each one... I didn't think it mattered.
However, FCPX shows all clips without the extension as grey, and they can't be selected. This is odd, because iMovie, Quicktime etc. can see them, recognise them as .dv files and open them.
Have I got something set up wrongly?
If not, anyone know how to batch change 100's of files to add .dv so FCPX can see them??

If you have Adobe Bridge (Any Photoshop since 7, or PS Elements would have installed it), you can easily add or change a suffix.
If you don't have Bridge, then I would recommend A Better Finder Rename. It has a number of options for modifying File/Folder names, include changing characters by position, renaming to a numbered or alphabetic list, adding suffixes, prefixes, scannig file name for specific characters and updating only this files with those characters... to many options to list. Very light weight, and runs as a finder extension so you can select the files, right-click(cntl-click) on the list and select ABFR from the pop-up.
I currently use v6.9.5. Current version is 8 and has a trial.
NOTE: I have no affiliation with the author, I just use the app regularely.

Can't recognise files without extensions.

This is my first mac and I bought it for work. When I transfered some files over from the older the macs in the office I discovered that unless they have an extension they are read as exec files.
I've only noticed it for InDesign files (.indd) and tiff pictures so far...
Anyone have any suggestions?

Personally, I would put all the InDesign files in a folder, do the same with other file types. Then go here:
"/Library/Scripts/Finder Scripts/Add to File Names.scpt"
Double click the script, it will open in Script Editor. Now open the folder with the InDesign documents, select all of them, and click the "Run" button in Script Editor. Tell it to add the text
.indd
and click the Suffix button. All the files should now have the proper extension. Do the same with the other files--just make sure you know the correct file type! The common Mac extensions are:
.jpg (for jpegs)
.pdf
.psd (for native Photoshop files)
.tif (for tiff files)
I suspect the problem is the result of the old files taking a trip through a Windows server. A Mac running OS X will correctly import old Classic Mac files, but it has to be done from a Mac formatted disk to a Mac formatted disk, which will preserve the resource fork.

My Macbook (lion/ML) can connect to wifi, but gets no internet (only specific network)

Hi everyone.
I'm really not the only one having a Wi-Fi problem, but my case may be a little different, so I thought I'd start a new thread.
I can connect to my Business network, To my home network and to my mobile phone tether connection. All gives 3/3 or 2/3 bars (perfect connection) but only my phone tether connection actually gives internet through. Strangest thing is that all of this happened suddenly. I had a few weeks of perfect internet (I only have this laptop for a few weeks) and suddenly all my Wifi is not working correctly
My configuration:
Macbook Pro 15" 2012, non retina
Mountain Lion, with all updates installed (also happened on Lion)
WiFi connection
KPN ZTE 220H Modem/Router
A few things to keep in mind:
- This problem started on Lion, but after updating to ML, it hasn't been resolved
- I can connect with any router
- But can get only Internet from one specific network (My Phone tether)
- My home network and the network at my office can be connected, but doesn't gives any internet, nor Ping (terminal) does work
- Ethernet works perfectly
I'm not running a 169.*.*.* DHCP
Ok, besides that.. I've tried quite much any solution.
- Renewing DHCP Lease
- Resetting the PRAM
- Resetting the SMC
- Network Assistent
- Network location options
- Removing all Network devices, applying and readding them
- Removing the system preferences, clean the bin, reboot
- Use a custom DHCP, BootP
Non of all those options work to resolve my Wi-Fi problem. Not even for half a minute.
Anyone else has a solution?

Yes there are 12-page forum threads here and elsewhere on the Mac dropping wireless, an issue that must disappear soon (got Mac OS 10.5.6?). The best and brightest Mac programmers are working as we speak, trying to dig out an end-around for the hundreds of dorky ancient pc MS-DOS router scripts, without destroying the magic for Mac-native devices by being encumbered with dross protocols, dumbed down.
So, have heart; murmur not. Cowboy up, which is American for 'spend more money on the issue' (and, d'oh, spend it on the same people that brought the issue to you in the first instance ...) ... buy a Mac Airport Extreme Base station? Else just keep trying to configure the existing Router; sweet, when you finally troubleshoot this dud and post back ...
Is your router capable of wiFi "n" even ... may be time for an upgrade, then; something new, and Mac-friendly. Good luck!

Sure, you can upload a file, using a form input element of type file. You pick this up with a servlet, though you need a special request wrapper to sort out the multi-part request you get back that way (there's a suitable package on jakarta.apache.org/commons)
The servlet decrypts the file and can pass the results to a JSP for display.
Don't try to do the complicated stuff in a JSP, it all gets incredibly messy, and that's not what JSPs are for.

This is shame but I was faced with problem which I can't solve in Finder/Spotlight — I can't search files by extension. May be I don't know something? Keyword "Kind" too abstract for this and searching not by exact extension. Wildcards never worked in spotlight. Thoughts?
P.S. Yes, I can do for example in terminal 'find . -name "*.txt" | xargs open -a BBedit' but this is not working for all apps and I don't want to return to eighties

dusty thread, but for those arriving from google, it is (supposedly) possible to add File Extension to the search options available:
in Finder hit Cmd+F to open the Spotlight interface (without requiring a string to search for)
Hit the search parameter dropdown (by default "Kind")
Select 'Other'
Find and tick 'File Extension' from the list to have it show up in the short list.
I say 'supposedly' because its not working for me when i search for 'psd' on 10.8.2

Hi, Flash Player is a browser plug in, not a standalone player. It works thru your browser. Check in Safari and any other browser that you use for the Shockwave Flash plugin. Make sure it's Enabled.
You can test each browser here and should be able to see the Flash Player logo(Red F) animate(spin). It will also display the version of Flash Player that you have Installed.

The error message is misleading, the problem is that you need WRITE privileges added to the destination directory tree.
Assuming you are using the "date" structure that LR defaults to, find the directory that contains the 2014 folder (the one that works) and add WRITE rights to the parent of "2014".
While you are there, if you want, add "2015" folder to beside "2014" and add READ and WRITE rights to that new directory.

i have created TestServiceImpl and TestService class for testing whether my bubdle is crating all the folder structure or not.
But my requirement is like assume class A has some methods like getMenuLink, setMenuLink.. And In class B i am calling some methods in class A and doing some manipulation in createLink method.
Here class B does not have any interface. Not implementing any interface. But I need to get class B refererence via sling.getService.
I know that if we are using maven SCR plugin..we need to have @component, @service. And All java classes are not services. Will it work if I add activate, deactivate method in class B?
Could you please tell me how to proceed next?

How can I EXCLUDE particular folders/files from being included in the Lightroom 5 catalog?
I want to be able to specify paths and/or filename patterns that should NEVER be indexed in the catalog: not that they don't show up under certain circumstances, just that they are NOT THERE (in the catalog) to begin with!!
I also do NOT want to have to respecify these criteria when "synching" the catalog; criteria should be PERMANENT (or at least 'til they're changed in LR preferences).
I cannot be the only person in the world with this problem--but it sure seems like it, because I've spent an inordinate amount of time doing online searches & I can't find anything that addresses this issue.
Can anyone PLEASE HELP me?
BTW, Adobe employees (if there are any of you out there), I'm simply trying out LR now. If I can't get this (seemingly fundamental) thing worked out (with relatively little effort), Adobe is going to LOSE A SALE of LR, because it's useless to me without this feature.

The same way that you avoid buying things in your local convenience store. You don't stick a lot of labels on certain shelves, slap a credit card down on the counter each week, and announce you are buying everything that doesn't have a label on its shelf. You just choose the things you want to buy.
Your mention of "synching the catalog" suggests that you are expecting the LR library, to mirror the total images in the computer by default. This is not IMO a useful way to think about it. LR contains no images at all, by default: the Catalog starts out empty.
Then you Add just those selected images that you want to import, among those already in the computer. That's a one-off process which is IMO best achieved controllably in batches - which you can keyword and otherwise organise in LR terms as you go. For new incoming images, ongoing, it is a question of Copying, Moving or Adding these in defined batches as they occur - from the relevant location only - there is no need to re-consider the import of a wider body of images. And one would not want to repeat that whole task anyway: one's prior investment in achieving the right selectivity, has a positive value.

yeah that is true. but is there anyway to check it otherwise.
