Can I expand an expanded network with airport express and extreme?

Hi, I would like to know, what happen if I have 1 Airport Extreme and 2 Airport Express.
First, my airport extreme is creating my wifi network in my house, and i have an airport express, expanding my wifi signal.
What happen if I want to add another airport express, like expanding the expanded network, something like this:
Internet
      |
     |
     |(Ethernet Cable)
     |
     |
Airport Extreme
     |
     |
     |(Wifi)
     |
     |
Airport Express 1
     |
     |
     |(Wifi)
     |
     |
Airport Express 2
So, can I expand my signal, just adding more airport express?

So, can I expand my signal, just adding more airport express?
No, since Apple will only allow you to "extend" the signal one time.
It is possible to have multiple extenders, but each extender must connect directly to the "main" base station....not to another device that is already extending the network.
Apple's extend setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main base station is the "hub". Each extender resides at the end of a separate "spoke", and as such it communicates directly to the "hub"......not to another extender at the end of another spoke.

  • Problems with Airport Express and Extreme

I have tried to set up Airport Express and Extreme.  Both proceeded normally in the Air Port Utility until the final stages.  Then it said it couldn't find the devices. When I tried again (many times), I couldn't even start the process, even though it did that the first time for both.  I'm stumped.

To set up the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) as a bridge, either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility, make these settings:
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection tab
    Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update to apply the new settings
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup >Music
    Enable AirPlay (checked)
iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    Verify Password: (optional)
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX

  • How can I extend my wireless network using Airport Express and an Airport Extreme on BT Infinity?

I have BT Infinity and I am using the Time Capsule with Airport Extreme as my router. Working well (even on wireless). I want to extend the wireless network with an Airport Express, but I cannot work out the settings necessary in Airport Utility. I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro. Please help!

    BT,
I've read several of your posts, thanks for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge.
I'm in a situation similar to the one described by 'scoutusmaximus'.  Seeking the flexibility of a standalone router, I finally upgraded my 4-yr old ATT DSL gateway (modem+router) to a Comcast standalone modem + the ASUS RT-AC66U: http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTAC66U/
Typically, I stick with all things Apple but the ASUS router seemed fairly superior to the current-gen base station (on paper, anyway; time will tell when it comes to performance) so, for once, I jumped ship.  My plan was to extend the ASUS wired/wireless network using my TimeCapsule and 2 Airport Expresses in bridge mode, however, a google search turned up several unhappy customers that claim those devices don't play well with non-Apple routers, especially when it comes to 'extending' a network.
    Questions:
    1. Can I successfully extend the wired/wireless network created by the ASUS router using the 3 airport devices listed above w/out negatively impacting performance?  I'd rather have 1 wireless network as opposed to creating a new wireless network with the TC and then extending it with the AP Expresses... though I'd consider that option down the line if it came to that.
    2. Will the LAN ports on the TimeCapsule remain functional?
Btw, my house is wired so, I can reach all 3 devices via ethernet cable coming off of a central, managed switch.  Supposedly, you only lose the LAN ports on the TC if you extend wirelessly.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Extending network with Airport Express and Airport Extreme (latest models) causes chaos on network

Today I upgraded from my several year old Airport Extreme (3rd gen) and 2nd gen Airport Express to a new (what you'd buy on the shelf today) Airport Extreme and Airport Express.  All airports are updated with the latest firmware and I'm using windows 7 for configuration.
The intention is to use the Airport Extreme as the main router, also serving wifi. And extend the network using the express. As such, the following has been done:
The Airport Extreme is configured for automatic channel, and automatic radio mode. I tried to select 802.11n 5 ghz and 802.11 n 2.4 ghz only, but it won't take the changes. Additionally, it wont' accept me using only channel 6. Not sure why, but I digress. The airport extreme is not set to broadcast a separate name for the 5ghz network.
The Airport Express is configured to use bridge mode, use an existing wireless network and is connected to my network on it's WAN port (the circle icon on the back) with ethernet. The password and wireless name used in configuration is the same as created initially on the Airport Extreme.
Initially I did the configuration of both airports on my computer, connected by ethernet to ensure stable connectivity while I inputted settings. During this, they appeared to accept the changes fine. However, when I moved the airport express to it's destination (other side of my house), the entire network went crazy.
Internet became slow, and often wouldn't load pages. This was on wired and wireless connections. When I attempted to administer the Airport in the Utility, they would not load, an error would occur. Also, at one point the Airport Extreme had renamed it self with a (2) at the end. Which was super odd. So far, the only solution has been to unplug the Airport Express and attempt to devise a solution.
Anyone have any ideas? Of course, I will continue to tinker with this, but it seems realllly strange. The previous setup was also extended (granted, using wireless only, not ethernet > wireless) and worked fine, granted it was a smidge slow, but it worked.

I wanted to add this.. I followed the guide here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260 to extend using ethernet, and the above is the result.
I just tried re configuring in OS X Mavericks and got the same, odd, result.

  • 3 powerline adaptors with airport express and extreme

    Hi all,
I am currently using two airport express and 2 TP-LINK powerline adaptors to create a "roaming" network, however i would like to add another powerline adaptor and an airport extreme to my network.
Modem -> Airport Extreme in the living room with an ethernet cable plugged into the powerline
1st Airport Express plugged into the 2nd powerline adaptor
3rd Airport Express plugged into the 3rd powerline adaptor
so my question is will the above setup work? or do i need to connect another powerline adaptor into the main Airport Extreme making the whole network use a total of 4 powerline adaptors? however if only a total of 3 powerline adaptors are required, would the network be confused and render the whole network useless?

  • Networking with airport express and another router

I have an imac and a powermac G5 connected to the internet by ethernet cables going through a router, and i recently bought 2 powerbook G4s and an airport express. the laptops are connected to the internet via the airport express (which is connected to the main router with an ethernet cable), and i can access the internet on all of them. However, i cannot share music or files between all of them, only between the imac and powermac connected by ethernet. The laptops seem to be on different networks, and i cannot share files or music between them or with the imac and powermac. is there a solution to this?

Absolutely this solution will work - it has worked perfectly for everyone (including myself) that has done this. Likely what you didn't do last time (and which I pointed out you must do) is restart all your wireless computers after making this change on the Airport Express. This forces all wireless computers to renew their IP addresses, which must now come from the cabled router on your network.
Just to be sure you have explained your setup correctly - please tell me what make/model of router you are using.

  • Panasonic BL-C131 wireless doesn't work with Airport Express and Extreme

I have Airport Express to create a wireless network, and an Airport Extreme to extend the wireless network. When I connect the LAN cable on Extreme and the Panasonic BL-C131, the camera can successfully detect IP and work fine. However, when I remove the cable and switch the camera to wireless mode, it can never detect the IP. I've read somewhere in the camera manual that it needs a UPnP enabled router to have wireless work. I am wondering if there is any way to confirm, since I know Airport only support Bonjour.
I really like to keep the Airport at home, or I'll need to replace it with a D-link router.

  • D-LINK router interferes with Airport Express and Extreme

Thanks everyone! I found out that the problem was and is that my DLINK router network is constantly interfering. I unplugged the DLINK and now I can see the Ariport Extreme AND Express in the Airport utility - for the first time actually. Would anyone have an idea how to disable the DLINK network? I tried in the network preferences using the "-" to delete it from the list but it keeps coming back.
    Thanks

Configure the D-Link to use a different channel or see if the D-Link has a configuration option to disable the wireless interface.

  • Extend wireless network with AirPort Express

How to extend the wireless network with AirPort Express and Belkin PlayMax as the primary router ?

How it work if I have an AirPor Station and 4 Airport Express, I actually also have an old TimeCapsule and an old AirPort Express. Can I cover all my house (around 300 m2). And will the old Airport slow down or convict with the new ones?

I was wondering if there are any features or configuration differences between the two, such as configuring VPN passthrough.
The only difference I can see is using the USB for hard drive use.
Also, do you think the performance will be similar.  I know the time capsule actually rated slower than the extreme even though they use similar hardware.

I have a new iMac and Time Capsule, how do i extend the network with airport express. My time capsule does have a guest net work, and logins and passwords? I am no computer person. So for me it would have to be spelled out.

Use the search as this has been done to death ..
Bob Timmons is the expert on this.. look at his answers here.

This has been automated in the v6 utility. I am used to doing it manually in v5 utility which is also fairly easy.
Apple doco is also good to read.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259
    Note.
You cannot extend the guest network unless everything is up to date 7.6.3 firmware. And that is only with the TC as the main router in the network.
All apple routers can be configured as the main wireless or as the extend wireless.. so don't worry if a post uses express or extreme or TC.. they are for wireless, the same thing.

  • Extending Network with Airport Expresses?

I'm drawing in wifi signal from the shipyard and want to broadcast(extend) it throughout the lower sections of a boat.
Currently I have 1 airport express drawing in the signal with ethernet connecting to the computer. However I want to extend the current network. Can I do this by buying another Airport Express and connecting through ethernet cable to the one I currently have. Would this work? What options would I need to select with the new AE(extend network, create network, etc)? Would this work with an airport extremeas well.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Ash

    Tessarax,
Are you saying I would need three AXn to create the extended network? or would it just work with 2?
    ie
    AXn(Recieving)-----Ethernetcable-----AXn extending network
    Will this not work?
Sorry just want to know how much I'm in for and if it will work before i go out and spend it.
    Thanks for the reply

  • Can i use my ipod touch with airport express?

I will be staying in a hotel that only offers hard wire internet connection.  Can I use my ipod touch with airport express to have have WiFi?  I won't have my computer with me.
    Thanks!

Yes, you can. However, you will not be able to administer the AirPort from the iPod Touch. Thus you would need to pre-configure the AirPort Express to work at the particular hotel that you will be staying at. Note: Most hotels now offer Wi-Fi in the rooms and the Express may not be necessary.

  • Expanding wireless network with Airport Express but without Airport Extreme

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if I can expand my wireless network with my Airport Express without Airport Extreme base station. I have a Netgear wireless router. Is it possible? Can you give me tips on how to set it up?
    Thanks a lot!

marcribeiro, Welcome to the discussion area!
No that is not possible. The Netgear is not compatible with Apple's WDS.
