Can I export the songs of iPod on my PC?

I want to make a backup of the songs of my iPod on my PC. Is this possible and when how?

They should mostly already be on the PC because that acts as the master source for media which is synced to the iPod, with the exception of direct downloaded iTunes Store purchases.
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

  • Can't see the songs on iPod

Read this link before this question.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1584036&tstart=0
In the link above, I explained a problem with expose, which in turn caused a problem with my iPod.
"Another time, dragging an mp3 to my iPod. The latter of the two causing a serious problem which I'm going to post in another topic."
The songs disappeared from my iPod.. They are still on the hard drive in the iPod, but the songs don't appear in the list anymore. I have songs on there which I can't replace. What do I do?
If you have any questions please ask them.
    Thanks,

PS I get "error -41" when I plug it in.

It sounds as if the iPod's database has gotten corrupted. Generally, the fix for that is to restore it. Note: restoring will delete everything on the iPod and return it to factory state.
Plug the iPod in and click the restore button in the Summary page. When it's done restoring, resync and all should be fine.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't add certain songs to ipod

I just copied a brand new CD into itunes. When I tried to copy the songs to my brand new ipod nano, I got a messgae that said that it can't copy the songs to ipod because ipod can't play those songs. I've looked everywhere in the help sections, manuals, etc. but can't find a solution (or even a topic) dealing with this problem. The file format that I am trying to copy to ipod is MPEG-4 Audio File. Other songs in that same format copied onto my ipod and play just fine. Any suggestions?

It's not one of those Sony CDs with protection on is it?

How can I, or can I export my songs on my iPod back to my computer?
The songs on my iPod Video 5th Gen now, were at one time on my computer, but have since been erased. Why can't I export the songs from my iPod back on to my computer? I have this same problem with my other devices (iPad 3rd Gen and iPod Nano 6th Gen). I am really frustrated now, because it seems as if I have to start all over again. This will be a royal pain in the butt! I don't understand why Apple makes this so hard and impossible to do this. Please help, anybody!!

    Greetings Ba25,
It sounds as though you would like to transfer content from your iPod to an iTunes library. You can transfer purchased content from iPods by following the directions in the article below:
Re-download or transfer your iTunes Store purchases from an iPhone, iPad or iPod to a computer - Apple Support
This feature works only for content bought from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or received from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Bobby_D

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

I wiped my ipod classic and then my computer crashed, so i no longer have the songs i purchsed from itunes on my ipod or computer! I have a new computer now with itunes installed, can I get the songs purchased previously from itunes somehow?

    Yes, you can!(:
    STEP 1: Open iTunes
STEP 2: Navigate to the "iTunes Store". It can be found under the "STORE" tab.
STEP 3: On the right side of the store there should be a "Quick Links" Section. Click on the "Purchased" link.
STEP 4: Navigate to the "Music" tab and click on "All Songs". Then at the bottom of the screen there will be a button that says "Download All". Click the button and your songs will be begin downloading!
NOTE: This will only work with songs that you bought from the iTunes store, if you imported them from a CD, you will have to do it again.
NOTE: You can also do this with Apps, Movies, TV Shows, and Books.
NOTE: You may have to sign in with your Apple ID to verify the download.
Hope this helped! Enjoy your music!(:

I have a pc running vista and the hard drive crashed how can i transfer my songs from Ipod nano 5th gen to my new hard drive and into itunes

Right click on your device in the device list and choose "transfer purchses" to copy all music bought in iTunes to your new iTunes library.
For all other media you'll have to use 3rd party software, examples are mentioned in this thread:

  • I can´t play the songs i got on my iPod (60gig) in any itunes program?

    Hey
I whould like some help with my iPod.
It is as the topic says, i can´t play the songs i got on my iPod at my computer(from the iPod).
The songs are just grey and i cant press them or anything.
There is also a small black lock icon at the bottom of my iTunes next to the display the shows how much memory all my songs take up.
This was working be4 i resetted my iPod to fill it with more music and hopefully to get rid of some annying freezes that occured aswell.
Anyone got a answer to why I can´t play my songs?

"The songs are just grey and i cant press them or anything. There is also a small black lock icon at the bottom of my iTunes"
Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to manual in the iPod preferences. For more detail see this tutorial: Managing content manually on iPod
One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod
