Can i extend my ap express through non apple router

can i extend my ap express through non apple router

Yes, if you connect the AirPort Express to your router using a permanent, wired Ethernet connection.
No, if you want to connect the AirPort Express to your router wirelessly.

  • Can i extend my ap express through a power line extender

I have an Apple Extreme with an ethernet cable to a Powerline adapter. The other end (in the far bedroom) the powerline adapter is ethernet wired to an Express. Will this extend my wireless network. The reason is this, I was using Facetime in the living room as I walked to the bedroom I dropped the connection only to pick up a strong signal in there. Make sense?

No, unfortunately you are going to off on the wrong track and it will be hard to get back on the right one.
You need step by step. We can provide that but we need a few details about your devices. If you have recent AirPort routers and you are using Mountain Lion or Mavericks, the setup will be very simple.
What model number of AirPort Extreme?  If you are not sure, is this a new "tower" shaped AirPort Extreme, a flat "square" Extreme, or a round "dome" shaped Extreme?
What model number of AirPort Express? If an older model, look on the side of the device for the model number. Hard to see in the faint print. It starts with an "A" followed by four numbers, as in A1264 or A1392 on the bottom of the newer version of the Express.
What operating system are you using on your Mac?  If you are no sure, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac and post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • Can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

can I use an airport express as a range extender to a NON apple router using an internet cable (so not wireless)

Yes, if the AirPort Express is set up to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name as the other router and the same wireless network password as the other router.

  • How do I use the new Airport Express as an extender for a non-Apple router?

We have an "Arris" router in our house and are thinking of buying an Airport Express to extend the internet. How can we use the Airport express as a repeater on a non-Apple router without having to use millions of ethernet cables?

Apple designed their "extend a wireless network" to only work with other Apple routers wirelessly, so it would be extremely unlikely like it would work with an Arris wireless router.
Your best bet is to always use products from the same manufacturer if you need this type of feature on your network to insure compatibility.
If Arris does not offer a product for this purpose, a "universal" extender like the Netgear device linked below might be able to do what you want. It was not "universal" enough to extend an Apple network when I tested a device recently.

  • Can TC extend a non-apple router via wireless?

I believe this ground has been covered by prior questions, but I just need to confirm before giving up hope.
Can the Apple TC extend a wireless network that eminantes from a non-Apple router (in my case, UBee, Time Warner Cable)?
Our cable modem enters the living room, where it is plugged via ethernet cord to the UBee router. The range just barely reaches my upstairs office. In a perfect work, I'd like to keep the TC in the upstairs office so that I can a) share our USB printer, and b) extend our network to the second floor.
Is this possible? I get the sense that it's not.
    Thanks for all your help,
    Mike

Not possible except with WDS.. which means far too many compromises.. wep security, G only wireless.. and a very good chance it won't work anyway.
Use EOP adapters and setup the TC as a WAP and switch.. or run ethernet .. they are the best ways.
Turn off the wireless on the cable router.. and plug an extreme or express into it.. TC can then extend wireless.
Again this is not the best solution but is the one apple's bottom line really likes.. which is why the limitation is there.

  • Can I Use Airport Express for Airplay and a non-apple router with streaming capabilities on the same network?

I want to do the following things but can't find one device that fits all purpose.
Wi-Fi router that has USB port to share external hard disk wirelessly to all devices (Mac, Samsung Smart TV, PC, Ipad, Iphone) along with inbuilt torrent download capability that also has a 3.5mm jack to do airplay.
Greedy? Yes I know but why can't we have it all I ask.
Airport Express severs Wifi Router + Airplay purpose
Then there are other non-apple routers in market that satisfy my need to attach external hard disk and stream to the devices mentioned (Note: Timecapsule will not stream to my Smart TV)
So I am thinking why not connect both Airport Express and a second non-apple router and get best of both worlds.
    Is it possible?
    Thanks in advance.

  • I used Airport Base station and I was able to extend my network using airport express and connect my printers.  Now I am using Extreme and I can't extend the network (Express) or the printers nothing shows up.  I am using utility 6.3 and Mt Lion  What is

I had an Aiport Base Station and extended using Airport Express, where I also connected my printers (network). Now using Airport Extreme off Mt Lion 10.8.4 and Utility 6.3.
I can't extend the network (express) or connect my printers (USB) nor will it find my one wifi printer.
    What's up?

For now, leave the AirPort Express powered off.
Power off the entire network....all devices.....in any order that you want
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem first, and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a full minute
Keep powering up devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered up (leave the Express off for now)
Open AirPort Utility and check to see if the AirPort Extreme is visible.
If it's not, click the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left of the screen, then click About AirPort Utility. Post back with the version number of AirPort Utility that you see there....which should be AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
    Post back on your progress.

  • Which non Apple Router to extend AX?

    Guys
Spent some time many months ago looking into whether an AX can extend a network via WDS from a non Apple router. Anyway looking again now and all searches are saying this can't be done.
Anyway I am positive I read there are one or two modem/routers - possibly Netgear and/or Linksys that can work with an AX to extend but can't find these threads.
Is this now impossible? (new implementation of Apple WDS?) Was it once possible? (Just to confirm I'm not going insane).
    Cheers

For WDS with non-AirPort routers the following, that were gleaned from the Internet, are known to work:
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54

  • TC as Extender for Non-Apple Router?

I have given up on my TC as a wifi router and will be replacing it with a Buffalo AirStation N450.  I'm going to leave it connected to the network to continue to use its internal drive and I would also like to use it as an extender for the Buffalo.  Does anyone know if this is possible?  Has anyone used a TC or an AEBS to extend a wifi network from a non-Apple router?

    LaPastenague wrote:
You cannot extend non-apple wifi.. with an Apple router. To make it clear the TC can be client of the buffalo but not repeater. That is also a poor way to do thing with repeating slowing wireless by half.
You can use EOP adapters and run the TC as a roaming wireless access point. That is relatively easy.
That answers the question.  An EOP adapter was my second choice, although using the TC to extend the network is less important than keeping its internal drive on the network for Time Machine backups.  I've never been satisfied with its wifi performance and I've finally gotten fed up enough with its wifi glitches to replace it.

  • HT4095 I downloaded a rented movie in hd to my ipad2 but can't find it to pay through my apple tv now. How do I watch the movie?

I downloaded a rented movie in hd to my ipad2 but can't find it to pay through my apple tv now. How do I watch the movie?

Rented movies downloaded to an iOS device cannot be transferred to any other computer or iOS device. Are you sure that a rented movie, downloaded to an iPad, can be airstreamed to an Apple TV?

  • Can't see photos of iPhoto through my Apple TV after moving the iPhoto library to my Airport Extreme Disk. It keeps "loading user's library" forever...

    Hi there,
some days ago I purchased an Airport Extreme router with disk to move my iphoto library there and free space of my crowded macbook pro.
Everything was working well (iphoto takes a little bit longer to start and quit) but now I can't see my photo library through my apple tv.
It keeps loading the library forever.
Is there any problem doing that?
    Thanks
    jm

    Help,
Thanks for the quick answer and for the welcome.
Yes I selected it in the iTunes sharing options (in fact several times, with resets in between just in case)
I think that it's related to the size of the library (more than 8 gb) and e fact that is in a remote disk (in the AirPort Extreme)
Hope anyone has the solution :-))
    Thanks again!

  • Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

Why can't iPad mini send text to non apple users????? I wish I knew this before purchase

iMessage is from Apple to communicate with other Apple devices.
iPad is not a phone and does not have SMS/MMS services from a carrier. There are apps that can do this, search the App Store.

  • Can I use an airport with a non apple product such as net gear

I have been wanting to get another router because I am going to be playing some ps4 pretty soon here in the next week and I was wondering if I could get an airport express to extend my houses wifi, but we have a router that isn't from apple. Could a airport express work with that? Or would have I have to buy another airport express and replace the router I currently have? Any answer would help thanks, appreciate it a lot!

The AEX can only connect wirelessly to your router in Bridge Mode. It can Join your existing network, but it cannot Extend it. Given that you can connect an Ethernet cable from the AEX to your PS4. But since the connection to your router is wireless there is no speed increase. That will only occur by connecting the PS4 by Ethernet directly to a LAN port on the main router. There's no way around that unless you put a second cable connection in the other side of the house. If you have to do that then you might as well run Ethernet cables. You can hire someone to run the cable up through the attic area and down the wall to an outlet box with an Ethernet jack in it.

  • Can't send messages from iPad to non-Apple users

After updating my iPad to iOS 7, I can no longer send messages to non-Apple devices.  I used to be able to send and receive text messages from my friends who use Android for example, but now it just says "not delivered".  Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know how to fix it?  By the way, it still works fine on my iPhone.

As far as I know, the native Messages app of the iPad was never able to send or receive SMS messages. SMS messages are a function of the voice portion of the cellular system, and even an iPad with celluler hardware connects only to the data portion of the cellular system.

  • Can you still get store credit for non-Apple repaired phone?

    Hi all,
My brother has an iPhone 5 which recently has a malfunctioning screen - it is out of warranty so replacing it will cost $250.  My family is thinking of switching over to a different carrier and we were planning on returning our iPhones for Apple credit. I was wondering if I were to get a non-Apple certified replacement screen, would I still be able to return the phone for Apple credit? Or, if I were to go ahead with the $250 replacement, will I still get the full credit on the iPhone 5 back (valued at $375)?
    Thanks!

Some US Apple stores are now able to in-store repair iPhone 5-series devices...teh price for the screen is $149.  Check with your Apple store to see if they can do the repair.
